The Variable Geometry Turbocharger Actuator failed on my 2019 2500HD Silverado. There was a significant decrease in power. This was most noticeable on uphill grades where speed would drop to between 35 and 40 mph on a 75mph speed limit highway. On several occasions, vehicles came close to hitting me because of my slow speed.
STEERING Mar 6, 2026
This has happened three times with the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LTZ truck. Each time, the failure was following a remote start in my driveway. It has occurred at the approximately 40K, 80K, and now at 128K mile mark. First two repairs were covered under the warranty and extended warranty, with the third time there was no warranty and the cost for repair was ~$2800. Each time, the vehicle was remote started in the January timeframe with cold (0 to 30°F) temperatures to allow the vehicle warm up prior to driving. I know two of those events occurred when we had a more significant temperature drop as there was snow on the ground. Upon getting into the driver seat and putting into Reverse to back out of the driveway, I discovered the brakes and power steering had failed. The dealer on this third time indicated a check valve somewhere was "sticky" resulting in the failure of a hose with a booster tied to either the brakes or power steering (not sure which) failing taking the other part out. In this third case, either power steering or brake fluid vapors had been sucked back into the heater as things had sprayed around the engine compartment. The cab of the vehicle presenting a haze/fog in the vehicle causing me to realize there was something wrong upon opening the truck door. All three times, the vehicle was towed to the dealer for service repair. I do not know if this could have presented a fire hazard or had I been driving down the highway or interstate how fast I would have lost braking or steering ability.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL Mar 6, 2026
I was driving down the road at approximately 55 mph when all of a sudden, my truck decelerated and a warning signal displayed on my dash indicating my speed was being forcibly reduced to approximately 30 mph. Fortunately, I was on a rural road versus the interstate. I pulled over and had an OBD2 reader. The reader indicated I had a P-2138 error code from a "voltage correlation error between the two Accelerator Pedal Position (APP) sensors". I was able to limp along with emergency flashers to return home. After driving approximately 10 miles, the "issue" resolved itself. I have since replaced the gas petal assembly after learning this is a common failure on many years of the Chevy Silverado series.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and it was determined that the injection pump needed to be replaced, and that the vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The contact researched and became aware of an unknown recall; however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 194,000.

My truck went into limp mode with pulling a trailer on the highway due to a wide known injector pigtail failing. The truck would not accelerate, started shaking and lost speed suddenly. After resetting the DTC on my computer, each time the truck would hit a rough spot on the highway and vibrate, the truck would go back into limp mode. After getting the truck repaired at $566.67 cost, the dealer say they would not help with the cost. Said the NHTSA would have to force them to fix this now issue. This was not a cheap truck and GM should not have there customers at risk in traffic with a know Limp Mode issue.
ENGINE Nov 5, 2025
All or most of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 models are having the same exact issue, the coolant hoses that cools transmission oil are exposed metal to metal rubbing against each others, and over time from driving normally will eventually cause transmission oil leaks in different areas of the hose element, GM technicians acknowledge it a faulty design from the manufacturer , so GM adapted a customer loyalty program but only to deny a fix or repair at there own expense. This is definitely should fall under a manufacturer recall.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS May 4, 2025
Another driver illegally turned left in front of this vehicle. the vehicles collided on each of their right front corners. The airbags failed to deploy and the shoulder belt did not restrain the driver and keep him striking his head on the steering wheel, and breaking a bone in his hand. this was a serious head-on collision that totaled both vehicles. The truck is currently at the salvage yard and is available for inspection. The driver's safety was put at risk because the two primary safety restraint systems failed. the problem has not been reproduced. Chevrolet is sending someone to download the crash data which will then be provided to their engineering department for review and analysis. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem were observed by the owner or driver before the accident.

I was driving my truck and lost full power to the truck. Which happened as I was pulling out of a parking. The truck went into a limp mode. With the truck losing full power, it put my child and I into a safety risk. The truck got repaired at the dealership. The dealer was able to reproduce the issue. The truck was inspected at the dealership. Warning system did come on saying speed would be limited if (roughly 150 miles to a max 65mph). When I called another dealership, they said this was a normal thing for these trucks and chevy hasn't fixed it. I feel like if its a known issue with the wiring becoming free, why would they not proactively fix this issue before someone gets hurts from thinking they have the power to drive. The dealership that I took this too knew where to look right away as this is common.

Every time the truck is started it will give a dash screen warning of "Low Coolant Level" even though the reservoir is completely full. It has been doing it for years now. The warning can simply be dismissed, but I worry that if it actually ever is low, I will never know until it's too late because myself and everyone affected is going to simply dismiss the warning as it is a daily occurrence. That is to say if the sensor works properly at all. I have researched it online on several Chevy owners websites and it is a very common problem that appears to be from a faulty sensor that is built into the plastic AF reservoir. Many have stated they have reported it to dealerships, but to no avail.

"N192265660 - Customer Satisfaction Program Rear Window Defroster Thermal Events - US Only" Rear Window shattered after having the symptoms described in Customer Satisfaction Program N192265660. Rear defroster would smoke/smell hot when activated. The symptoms were brought to the attention of the Dealership prior to window breaking, but nothing was done due to the VIN not being part of the listing. Now I have no rear window and parts are on backorder with no ETA. Not to mention this will be out of pocket costs that could have been prevented. This Glass shattered all over my [XXX] old daughter. This has also been known to cause fires according to the bulletin. This should be a recall. If it already is a recall my VIN is certainly affected by this problem but is not listed. My VIN should be listed along with several others. This is a relatively common problem. Dealer refuses to work with me on a cost effective solution. No warnings other than the described symptoms that were brought to the dealer as previously stated. Approximate time frame was Dec 2022. Dealer did nothing due to my VIN not being listed as part of this program. Truck was parked in the garage when the window shattered. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Prior to 04/25/21 and 08/25/21 I was traveling 60mph on I-205 in the fast lane when my truck went into limp mode. I nearly caused an accident because the truck started shaking, all check engine lights illuminated, and it was challenging to navigate to the right lane and off the highway. This happened on two separate occasions. GM sent a letter dated August 2021 that my truck, "equipped with a 6.6L diesel engine, may have a condition that could cause the engine glow plugs to fail." The letter goes on to say that GM will cover this issue "within 15 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 150,000 miles (240,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge." GM charged me for the repair. The issue is the language in the letter and the word "condition". My interpretation is the "condition" that caused the glow plug to fail is what should be warranted. Nowhere in the GM's letter does is state the glow plugs may fail and we will only warranty glow plugs. What caused the glow plug(s) to fail was the electrical connector. The electrical connector is what caused the glow plug to fail. The glow plug by itself was not the "condition" that caused it to fail, the "condition" was a faulty electrical connector. GM must be held accountable to cover this safety defect. I have attached all documents pertaining to this incident. Please advise.

The fuel tank vent got plugged, which collapsed the fuel tank, damaged the fuel pump causing the truck to stall at highway speeds on the highway in traffic. GM certified mechanic at the dealership confirmed and mentioned that he had already repaired 4 trucks with this issue in Rochester, MN. Prior to the failure, the fuel gauge was inaccurate and a few days later the check engine came in at which time we scheduled an appointment with the mechanic.

The DEF fill tube is under the hood on the opposite side of the fuel filling tube. To fill the DEF at a truck stop, one has to park really close to the pumps and stretch the hose across a hot engine. One has to be careful that hot engine does not burn a hole in the DEF hose and cause a spill.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Jul 19, 2024
The DEF system does not provide a level indication. Whenever the DEF is filled it always results in a DEF spill to the environment since the operator does not know whether to add 5 gallons or one gallon.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Jul 19, 2024
The DEF fill port is not vented and provides a tight fit with the DEF dispensing hose and nozzle at a truck filling station. The DEF dispensing nozzle cannot be placed entirely in the port since it pressurizes the DEF tank and causes block back spray on the operator. Filling the DEF tank at a truck filling station always results in DEF spillage regardless of the filling technique employed.

The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while towing an RV and driving approximately 65 MPH, the vehicle suddenly lost motive power and stalled. During the failure the message "Forward Propulsion Failure" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the fuel pump control module had failed. The fuel pump control module was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

Lack of proper venting of the DEF holding tank causes tank to buckle and expand resulting in very loud metal banging sounds as vehicle travels between high and low elevations. For example driving from Flagstaff AZ (el. 7000) to Phoenix AZ (el 1600) results in loud metal noises from the tank as it partially implodes due to change in pressure. Should the DEF tank develop cracks the result is a leak in DEF to the environment.

Repeated temporary failures in the Integrated Trailer Braking Control (ITBC) results in trailer brakes being inoperable (disconnected) while driving as indicated by the warning display on the dash. The complete loss of trailer braking, including increased stopping distance or trailer instability which could result in serious injury, death, or property damage. The ITBC has been replaced twice, including once by dealership and the problem persists. This has been occuring from 2019 until today whenever I tow my 5th wheel. Trailer to truck connecting cords and outlets have been inspected and/or replaced as a precaution. This is the same 5th wheel which was towed by a 2005 chevy 2500HD for 10 years without a problem using an aftermarket Brake Controller.

STEERING Sep 26, 2023
In May of 2023, the truck developed a significant shake when driving on moderate road bumps. We took it to the dealer and they replaced the pitman arm and idler arm assembly for over $2200. Recently, the shake started again. We took it to a local mechanic who told us that the upper ball joints were completely worn out and had been for some time, certainly since before the visit to the dealer in May. We had the ball joints replaced, and it is still shaking. We will continue to try to diagnose the problem but now we feel like we cannot drive it because it is unsafe. I’ve seen online that Chevy has a reputation of having this problem with our model (2019 Silverado). I’m filing this report to let you know that we are experiencing this problem.

On a trip from Southern California to Waco, TX, tire tread separation occurred on the driver's side front tire (Goodyear Wrangler ST-A LT265/60R20) on Sept 4, 2023 in Deming, NM. On the return trip from Waco, TX, to Southern California, on Sept 15, 2023 the tread on the passenger side rear tire (Goodyear Wrangler ST-A LT265/60R20)started separating in the same manner. The tire was replaced with the spare tire in Deming, NM, and the trip was resumed. On the same day, Sept 15, 2023 on arrival into Blythe, CA, the driver's side rear tire (Goodyear Wrangler ST-A LT265/60R20) in the same manner (tread separation). At that point, all the tires were replaced at a tire shop in Blythe, CA. In summary, within an 11 day period, three tires (Goodyear Wrangler ST-A LT265/60R20) failed from tread separation. All tires were the same make and model. They were purchased mounted when the new vehicle on Sept 11, 2018 (Chevrolet Silverado HD) was purchased. I purchased the 2019 Chevy Silverado 2500 Duramax on July 3rd with 60,000 miles on it and it is in great condition and so great for the price. Then about a week later I had to pull a trailer and it started to ding and say Warning check trailer wiring and then it would say trailer connected and it would go back and fourth ever 5 seconds and would be dining the whole time. I had to drive like that for 4 plus hours and it was very distracting. I was not able to check my speed, get phone calls, control my volume, and many other things which makes me very mad. This is a safety hazard for people in the vehicle and people around us. I really this that Chevy should make this a recall because there are so many people that have this problem and it is very dangerous for people because it makes you take your eyes off the road so much. There are a lot of people that will not tolerate listening to the dinging noise and they will unplug the trailer and they will have no break lights nor blinkers because they do not want to listen to it and that is even worse. Especially when there is a lot of traffic people are not able to see if you are breaking or not and that is when accidents occur. If a lot of people keep having this happen they will on want to buy these vehicles anymore that is where I am at. I am thinks about getting rid of it and staying away from Chevy and GMC.

Vehicle has, on multiple occasions, had blinker lights flicker while vehicle is turned off. Vehicle has locked by itself, without anyone touching the lock buttons. Vehicle has had multiple issues with the fuel injectors, where the vehicle will read “reduced power engine.” Vehicle has been to a Chevrolet dealership for repair, although the issue still persists. I believe there is an electrical circuit issue with this vehicle, and there has been recalls on this model for exact reasons.
