I was driving down the road and I heard a clunk. I lost all power and coasted into a farmers field. The dash board said lost power, nothing else. I had no warning. Oil pressure was where it should be until is quit. Keller Chevrolet contacted us and told us the engine blew. The connecting rod broke and the piston come apart. I had service done on my truck 4 days prior. I always service my vehicle every 3,000 miles or 3 months which ever comes first. I have about 121,000 miles on my 2001 pickup. It has always been serviced at either Bob Schmidt Chevrolet or Keller Chevrolet. We are in the process of getting a new engine from GM and having it installed at Keller Chevrolet. I OWN A 2001 2500HD CHEVY SILVERADO AND LAST MONTH I HAD THE LEFT REAR STEEL BRAKE LINE RUPTURE AND AS A RESULT I LOST ALL BRAKING POWER. NEITHER THE BRAKE LIGHT COME ON AND THE PROPORTIONING VALVE DID NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY DURING THIS MALFUNCTION SINCE FRONT BRAKES LOST ALL POWER. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE ROAD WAS CLEAR, TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND THERE WERE NO PEDESTRIANS AROUND. THE PARKING BRAKE WORKED MARGINALLY SINCE I WAS CARRYING A LOAD OF WET SOIL HOME. CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER AND WAS QUOTED $1,500-$2,000....EVERYONE SHOULD SEND THE RUSTY LINES TO GM SO THEY CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

ALL THE LINES AT THE BLOCK WERE VERY CORRODED AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY STATED USUALLY THE BRAKE LINE BLOWS OUT IN THE REAR AND THAT MY REAR LINE LOOKED TO BE IN PRETTY BAD SHAPE AS WELL BUT THAT IT HAD NOT BLOWN YET. IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY OR GOING ANY SPEED IN TRAFFIC I WOULD HAVE PLOWED THROUGH SOMETHING FOR SURE... I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS TYPE OF SAFETY HAZARD HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL! WHILE COMING TO A STOP A BRAKE LINE FAILED DUE TO CORROSION. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT PULLING MY TRAILER. AFTER INSPECTION I WOULD SAY THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE CORRODED AND ARE NEAR THE POINT OF FAILURE AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE BRAKE LINE RUPTURED CAUSING PEDAL TO SINK TO THE FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION, ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED AND DEGRADED TO THE POINT OF NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. *TR
PLACED FOOT ON BRAKE AND STARTED VEHICLE. WHEN IT STARTED THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. MY SON HAPPENED TO BE STANDING NEXT TO THE TRUCK AND SAID THERE WAS FLUID COMING OUT BY THE FRONT TIRE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. HE CHECKED WHERE THE FLUID WAS COMING FROM AND SAW THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED. *TR
