While driving engine cuts off intermittently, usually will restart. This is caused by the Crank position sensor. Once replaced, the issue was resolved. This vehicle was NOT covered by NHTSA recall 07U521000.

WHEN I LOOKED TO SEE WHAT LINE IT WAS,I WAS AMAZED AT HOW BADLY ALL THE LINES WERE RUSTED. MY MECHANIC QUOTED ME LIKE $ 1400 DOLLARS TO REPLACE ALL OF THE LINES,AND GUARANTEE HIS WORK. I UNDERSTAND THAT ALL GM TRUCKS FROM 2000 TO 2009 HAD THIS MAJOR PROBLEM . I HAVE FOUND AN AFTER MARKET LINE KIT FOR $ 280 WITH ABOUT 3 DAYS LABOR FOR A DIY GUY.

WE HAVE A 2001 SILVERADO 3500 THAT SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF BALTIMORE TRAFFIC BACK IN 2006. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED AND PAID $644.33 TO HAVE IT FIXED. IT WAS THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. WE CAME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS IN SOME OF THE 2001'S. BUT GUESS WHAT, OURS IS NO ON THE LIST! I ASKED THE LADY "SO WHO DETERMINES WHICH OF THESE MODEL VINS GET TO BE ON THE RECALL AND WHICH ONES WILL THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR. OF COURSE SHE RESPONDED THAT SHE WAS SORRY FOR OUR INCONVENIENCE, BUT SHE COULD NOT HELP. IS THERE ANY WAY TO HAVE OUR TRUCK ON THE RECALL TOO AND GET A REIMBURSEMENT? WE TRULY LOVE OUR TRUCK AND IT HAS TO GO IN FOR THE UBS BRAKE SYSTEM TOO, BUT WE FOUND OUT IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THAT RECALL EITHER. WHAT GIVES? BRAKE LINES ON MY TRUCK RUSTED THRU AND BRAKES FAILED WHILE ON THE ROAD. THE RUSTED LINES RAN FROM THE ABS SYSTEM TO THE MASTER CYLINDER AND FRONT BRAKES. IT OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED AND I USED EMERGENCY BRAKE TO GET HOME. THE LINES HAVE NOT BEEN REPLACED AS YET. I WILL SAVE PARTS. *TR

THE ENGINE WOULD RESTART AFTER WAITING FIVE TO TEN SECONDS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGIN COOLING); HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
ON MY 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO 3500 PICK UP ,I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO BE CHECKED OUT BECAUSE MY BRAKES DIDN'T ACT RIGHT SO I TOOK IT IN AND A SHORT TIME LATER I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE DEALER ASKING ME HOW DID I GET THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER BECAUSE THE BRAKE LINE WAS GONE ROTTED AWAY .THEY HAD TO REPLACE ALL MY BRAKE LINES FOR THIS TRUCK. IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT IT HAPPENED WHEN IT DID BECAUSE A FEW WEEKS LATER I WOULD HAVE BEEN PULLING MY 33 FOOT 5TH WHEEL AND WITH THAT KIND OF WEIGHT I SURELY WOULD HAVE HAD A WRECK. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500 CREW CAB WITH DUAL WHEELS. SEVERAL TIMES RECENTLY THE TRUCK HAS LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. YESTERDAY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING IT, AND IT SHUT OFF WHILE TURNING A CORNER IN THE CENTER OF EXETER NH. IT LOST POWER STEERING AND THE TRUCK WENT OFF THE ROAD ONTO THE SIDEWALK BY THE TOWN HALL, NARROWLY MISSING PEDESTRIANS. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE AND FOUND OUT IT IS BEING CAUSED BY THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A DEALER RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID MY VEHICLE ISN'T INCLUDED. 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO DIESEL - DOING 65 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY - MOTOR STARTING SKIPPING AND THEN HAD A LOSS OF POWER. DIESEL FUEL CAN BE SMELLED. PULLED OFF HIGHWAY AND CHECKED THE TRUCK. DIESEL FUEL WAS FOUND BLOWN ALL OVER THE UNDERCARRIAGE INCLUDING THE EXHAUST. I WAS WORRIED THAT THE TRUCK WOULD CATCH ON FIRE. BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A CHEVY DEALER TO GET CHECKED OUT AND FOUND OUT IT WAS CAUSED BY FAULTY INJECTORS THAT CHEVY IS AWARE OF BUT IF THE TRUCK IS OVER 7 YEARS OLD AND IS NOT COVERED BY THE "DEFECTIVE INJECTOR WARRANTY". I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY ISSUED A WARRANTY ON THE PART BECAUSE THEY WERE AWARE THAT IT WAS DEFECTIVE INSTEAD OF HAVING THE PART RECALLED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 3500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE HESITATES AND THE MOTOR SHUTS OFF, AND THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE VEHICLE WILL RESTART AFTER FOUR OR FIVE ATTEMPTS. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED MORE THAN TEN TIMES. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, WHICH INDICATED THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE BECAUSE NO ERROR CODE WAS PRODUCED. THE MECHANIC NOTIFIED HIM OF A RECALL FOR HIS MODEL VEHICLE WITH IDENTICAL FAILURES; HOWEVER, THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNABLE TO BE FOUND IN THE NHTSA DATABASE. THE BRAKSE ON MY 2001 SILVERADO 3500 HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT THE PAST FEW YEARS. MOST OF THE TIME THEY WORK FINE BUT TODAY WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE OF ALL THE REST. I PULLED UP TO A STOP LIGHT, PEDESTRIANS STEPPED INTO THE CROSS WALK, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES AND WENT RIGHT THROUGH THE RED LIGHT. FORTUNATELY THE PEDESTRIANS WERE ABLE TO JUMP OUT OF THE WAY AS I COASTED RIGHT THROUGH THEM. THE BRAKES WORKED FINE UNTIL I GOT HOME THEN I ALMOST COASTED INTO MY GARAGE DOOR. *TR

SOMETIMES IT WILL RESTART IMMEDIATELY, BUT OTHER TIMES IT TAKES LONGER TO RESTART. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, THE STEERING AND BRAKES FAIL COMPLETELY, WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE MILEAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
VEHICLE IS STALLING AND NOT STARTING AND BRAKES HAVE TO BE REPLACED MORE OFTEN THAN ANY NORMAL VEHICLE/TRUCK/VAN. THIS OCCURRENCE HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MANY MECHANICS AND EVEN THE DEALER. ALL TYPES OF THINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED (FUEL PUMP, STARTER, TUNE-UP, SPARK PLUGS, BRAKES, BRAKE DISC, ROTORS, ETC...) AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE IS STALLING AND IT SEEMS THAT ENOUGH GAS IS NOT GETTING TO THE ENGINE AND IT SEEMS THAT BRAKES WEAR QUITE TOO OFTEN. I KNOW THIS MAY COST THE COMPANY ALOT TO RECALL BUT WE AS CITIZENS PAY ALOT FOR THESE VEHICLES AND THEY SHOULD OWN UP TO THESE MANUFACTURING ISSUES. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND THERE ARE MANY OTHERS OUT THERE LIKE MYSELF THAT HAVE REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEM FROM MODELS DATING BACK TO 1997. PLEASE ASSIST ME WITH GETTING THE MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM, TIMES ARE HARD AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO SPEND ANOTHER DIME ON THIS VEHICLE WHEN I SHOULDN'T.
