The component is the Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP) Vapor Canister Purge Valve. The internal diaphragm or solenoid of the factory-installed purge valve has worn out prematurely or became contaminated, locking it permanently into a stuck-open position. The Manifestation or (Symptoms): The
... stuck-open valve continuously drafts raw fuel vapor and unmetered air into the engine intake manifold. This causes an improper air-fuel mixture, resulting in:Stumbling / Failure to Start Immediately After Refueling (the engine is flooded by gas tank vapors forced in during fill-up).Rough Idling (due to a continuous vacuum leak).Illuminated Check Engine Light tracking Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0496 (High Purge Flow) or P0442. Yes, it is available for inspection. The vehicle stumbles, hesitates, and fails to restart at busy gas pumps and intersections which places drivers, passengers, and other motorists at an immediate risk of a collision. Yes, the problem has been validated by an professional auto mechanic shop. No, it has not been inspected by anyone else other than the mechanicshop to diagnose the problem, issue. The check engine light came on as I cranked the vehicle up and it started idling. No known symptoms until check engine came on prior to failing. The check engine light first appeared in May 2026 as well as the codes mentioned above.Read more

While towing a camping trailer, the brakes for the trailer kept issuing a warning saying "connected" then "not connected - check trailer brake wiring". Then "trailer brake not connected". After a while the brake system stopped working entirely. The 30 amp fuse that controls the trailer braking syst
... em blows out. This fuse is not a common fuse and not available at some auto parts stores (not really convenient while towing away from home). Evidently there is a problem with the brake control module that is factory installed. The module does not like the charging system on the trailer battery. I have spent hundreds of dollars and many hours in different shops trying to trace down this problem. It is very unsafe to have the trailer brakes not work while driving. This faulty module needs to be recalled. Part # 23306694Read more

My 2016 Kia Optima EX (VIN [XXX] , 2.4L I4 DI) suffered sudden engine bearing failure and complete engine seizure after approximately three months of use. After inspection, the Kia Scottsdale dealership confirmed that my vehicle’s VIN was eligible under the engine replacement warranty and submitte
... d a request for assistance. However, Kia America denied the request. This defect is identical in nature to the known dangerous defect covered under Kia Safety Recall SC147 (NHTSA 17V-224) and related recalls for earlier Optima model years, involving connecting rod bearing wear leading to engine seizure. In my case, the defect caused a total loss of motive power, posing a serious crash risk. Kia Motors America has refused to repair or replace the engine, claiming my vehicle is ineligible due to being purchased from an auto auction (Sierra Auction) and having multiple prior owners. This refusal ignores that the defect is a safety-related manufacturing flaw identical to those already acknowledged by Kia and subject to federal recalls. I request NHTSA investigate Kia’s refusal to extend the same safety remedies to my VIN and consider whether the scope of SC147 and related recalls should be expanded to include vehicles with the same defect pattern. Supporting documentation available upon request. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where the fuel pump was replaced. The contact was informed by the dealer that poor quality fuel had caused the fuel injectors to fail. The dealer replaced the high-pressure fuel feed pipe and the injectors. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact related the failure of the fuel injectors to the fuel pump replacement under NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The failure mileage was 60,400.Read more

The Issue I am having is related to the Start/Stop function in the vehicle. Under normal circumstances when Start/Stop is on, and when it engages at a stop, the engine turns off when the brake is depressed. When lifting your foot off the brake, the engine restarts and you can immediately drive for
... ward. My concern is when I come to a stop on an incline, which is very common in the Cincinnati area. When I come to a stop on an incline and Start/Stop is on, and when it engages, the vehicle turns off as it should. As I lift my foot off the brake, the engine starts... All seems fine up to this point... However in my situation, the transmission does not engage immediately. The vehicle will rev up to about 2K RPM and about 2 seconds later the car jerks into forward motion. This happens nearly every time I come to a stop on a hill. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ON RED... A couple times, I thought I had plenty of room to make a turn only to have another car seem to be right on top of me by the time the my vehicle transmission engaged and I started to move. I took this vehicle to a RAM dealership only to have them say the issue could not be duplicated and that it is operating as designed. I was informed to simply turn off the Start/Stop system. That is NOT a satisfactory answer, especially when there isn't a way to permanently turn the system off. Frustrated with that dealership, I currently have it at another dealership and am currently being told a similar story, but was also told that it can be normal for it to take a couple seconds for all systems to begin talking to each other once the vehicle restarts. Not satisfied with that answer, I am going on a test drive with them tomorrow morning. If the answer is in fact that this issue is as designed, then there should be a large warning label on the dash to TURN OFF START/STOP ON HILLS or the software updated so Start/Stop does not engage on inclines.Read more

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone, where diagnostic test codes indicated a timing chain failure and other diagnostic test codes were retrieved. The vehicle
... was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the engine had failed due to low engine oil, and the engine needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that 2 quarts of oil was added to the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the engine was overfilled with oil. The mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the failure was related to the knock sensor. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer, Great Lakes Hyundai of Dublin (2441 Billingsley Rd, Columbus, OH 43235), where it was diagnosed. The dealer informed the contact that no engine failure was found; however, the catalytic convertor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power, went into LIMP Mode, and failed to exceed 5 MPH. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving 35-40 MPH. The contact was able to drive to the residence. The contact stated that the vehicle had become undrivable. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they relied on the dealer’ assessment. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.Read more
