FRAM RACING HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS NOT BEARING A DATE CODE IN THIS RANGE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE GASKET OF THE OIL FILTER BECOMES MORE PLIABLE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES.

HELLO, MY CAMARO HAS HAD A GAS LEAK FROM THE GAS TANK/FILLER NECK FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO, I WENT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY RECOGNIZED THAT IT HAD A PROBLEM, BUT COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT UNDER THE OLD RECALL THAT 'APPEARS' TO HAVE EXPIRED. AFTER DOING RESEARCH INTO THE PROBLEM, I BECAME AWARE OF A RECALL (#92C36) FOR THIS VEHICLE COVERING THE FUEL FILLER NECK/TANK SOLDIER JOINT(MAY 24, 1994). I WENT TO PALM CHEVROLET AND CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE, ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT "NO VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER OR ASSOCIATED OPEN CAMPAIGN INFORMATION MATCHING MY VIN WAS FOUND." I PULLED THE FUEL TANK TO HAVE IT SENT OUT FOR REPAIR. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION I REALIZED THAT THE RATTLE WAS COMING FROM THE LOOSE BAFFLES IN THE TANK AND THAT THE LOOSE FILLER NECK RATTLED AGAINST THE INTERNAL BAFFLES ALSO. I FELT THAT SOLDERING THE JOINT WOULD BE A QUICK FIX, BUT BECAUSE OF THE LOOSENESS, IT WOULD ONLY LEAK AGAIN IN TIME. AT THIS POINT I DECIDED TO JUST REPLACE THE TANK(AND FUEL PUMP). WHEN I QUESTIONED A LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER WITH MY VIN # THEY SAID IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CAMPAIGN. I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE WITH THE SAME RESULTS. IT SEEMED ODD THAT EVERYWHERE I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET THERE WAS INFORMATION THAT SAID MY CAR WAS INVOLVED, YET THEY SAID THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY CAR. I HAVE HAD REJECTIONS FOR SAFETY INSPECTION STICKERS ANUALLY FOR A NUMBER OF CONSECUTIVE YEARS BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHT BUILT INTO THIS 1991 CAMARO REAR GLASS IS MADE OF HEAT REACTIVE PLASTIC WHICH MELTS WHEN THE BRAKES ARE HELD FOR LONG PERIODS (LIKE TRAFFIC JAMS). THE DEALER WILL GLADLY SELL THE OWNER A NEW ONE FOR A CONSIDERABLE SUM. BUT, IT IS MADE OF THE SAME HEAT REACTIVE PLASTIC AND DOES NOT HAVE VENTILATION TO DISAPATE THE HEAT...LIKE THE ONE ALREADY ON THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS ANY YEAR OF THIS DESIGN, SURELY INCLUDING THE '92'S AS WELL. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO EASILY DETERMINE WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS. ONE USUALLY FINDS OUT AT INSPECTION TIME OR BY BEING TICKETED BY THE POLICE. THE INSPECTION WORKER TOLD ME THAT ALMOST EVERY VEHICLE LIKE MINE FAILS THIS ONE PARTICULAR INSPECTION REQUIREMENT DUE TO ITS DESIGN. CAN THE NHTSA INVESTIGATE AND IF FOUND VALID, REQUIRE GM TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION FOR THIS POOR DESIGN? MANY OTHER PLASTIC COMPONENTS IN THIS VEHICLE SUFFER A PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO THE POOR QUALITY. THE FUMES CAN ALMOST OVERCOME YOU AT TIMES BUT AT TIMES ARE HARDLY NOTICEABLE BUT I BELIEVE IT DEFINITELY NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED ANYWAY. IF SOME VEHICLES ARE COVERED AND SOME AREN'T BUT SOME HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WOULDN'T THAT BE REASON ENOUGH TO EXPAND THE RECALL. I HOPE SO. THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SEEN BY 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS FOR PAINT DELAMINATION. ALL HAVE RECONGNIZED IT IS "DEFECTIVE PRIMER". WHEN FIRST TAKEN IN TO FRANK PARRA CHEVROLET THE CAR WAS AT THAT TIME ONE MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS CONTACTED BOTH IN TROY, MI AND BY 800#. A GOOD WILL POLICY WAS MENTIONED TO ME, BUT DENIED BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS PAINT IS CHIPPING OFF THE ROOF,HOOD,BACK LID & SIDES. MORE CHIPS AWAY FROM RAIN AND WASHING. THIS CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGE KEPT.
THE PAINT STARTED TO PEEL ON THE HOOD AND HAS ALSO STARTED ON THE TRUNK PLUS ON THE TAIL OF THE TRUNK THERE IS NO MORE PAINT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY OTHERS OF THE SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE GONE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO CALL BACK BUT FROM OTHERS I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A BAD PRIMER WAS THE PROBLEM ON MY YEAR CAMARO AND I HAD CALLED GMC TO INQUIRE OF THIS I ASKED IF A RESP. COULD COME AND LOOK AT THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE I AM VER Y UPSET ABOUT THIS DUE TO PAYING A LOT OF MONEY FOR MY CAR AND ALWAYS TAKING CARE OF IT I AM DIGUSTED WITH HOW IT LOOKS AND HAVE EVEN OFFERED GMC TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE COST TO REPAINT THE HOOD AND TRUNK I AM ASHAME TO DRIVE THE CAR WHEN PEOPLE STOP ME AT MY PLACE OF BUSINESS AND ASK WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO YOUR CAR, I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN EXCELLENT PRIDE IN THE APPEARENCE OF HOW MY CAR LOOKED AND THINK THIS IS VERY UNFAIR THAT THE COMPANY AND OR DEALER WON'T DO ANYTHING FOR ME. AND THAT IS ABOUT ALL I HAVE TO SAY I HOPE THAT SOMEONE WILL LISTEN TO ME AND MAYBE WILL HELP ME TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM OR POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AT THE LEAST.

AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON, 2 AIRBAG ARMING SENSORS AND D.E.R.M. REPLACED. ALSO FAULTY D.E.R.M./AIRBAG SYSTEM CAUSES AIRBAG CODES TO INDICATE DEPLOYMENT WHEN THEY HAVE NOT.
IN 1994 WE TOOK OUR 1991 CAMARO TO BRACK ROWE CHEVROLET FOR A RECALL ON THE GAS TANK FILLER NECK. THERE WAS NO PROBLEM THEN, THE RECALL # WAS 92C36. IN 1995 WE NOTICED A FAINT GAS ODOR IN THE CAR AFTER FILLING UP. THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE, NOW GAS LEAKS FROM THE TANK ONTO THE EXHAUST PIPE. CHEVROLET SAYS THEY HAVE NO OPEN RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE AND THAT IT HAS TOO MANY MILES ON IT FOR THEM TO FIX. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT GAS IS LEAKING ONTO THE EXHAUST PIPE. THE BILL I GOT FOR THE RECALL SAYS "COMPLETED RECALL - INSPECTED - NO FURTHER WORK REQUIRED." DOES THIS MEAN THAT CHEVROLET IS NOT LIABLE FOR THEIR FAULTY WORK BECAUSE THEY INSPECTED MY CAR ONE TIME?
