My truck had a recall for the door locks freezing, which my truck had an issue with. The dealer performed the recall and 1 of the doors continued to freeze. The door will not latch and it will open when driving down the road. I took it back to the dealer and they charged me to diagnose and confirm it's still doing it. They will not repair it again, they said the recall repair was inadequate and it would cost 900$ to fix.

Driving uphill at approx 20mph near my home. Loud bang/explosion from engine or front driver-side wheel well. Red alarm flashed on instrument cluster (something like “Front Brake Failure”) and strong odor of fuel or exhaust entered cab. I immediately pulled into a pullout and put vehicle in park when I noticed flames coming from the engine compartment through the gaps in hood and wheel well. I splashed a small amount of water on the driver side front tire, but the fire continued to grow. I backed away to a safe distance and called 911. Within 5 minutes, the entire engine compartment was on fire and I captured on video explosions as the fire raged Local fire department arrived within 15 minutes, but the entire engine and cab had already been destroyed by fire. Had I been driving at high speed or with passengers, this incident could have resulted in serious burn injuries and death. Had I been driving during summer months, this incident would have caused a devastating wildfire. Had I been in traffic, I may have caused a multi-car wreck. There were absolutely no warning indicators that such a violent incident could occur. Tow truck driver said it may have been a fuel filter issue which has caused other Super Duty’s to experience sudden and catastrophic engine compartment fires. Minimal research showed me that NHSTA is investigating Ford Super Duty for this very issue. My F350 is model year 2017. I also have video of fluids dripping from the burning vehicle and the droplets are on fire which leads me to believe that leaking fuel — possibly from a cracked plastic filter — may be to blame for this incredibly dangerous incident. The vehicles remains have been searched by California Highway Patrol and the remains are currently being investigated by State Farm Auto Insurance claims experts.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Dec 8, 2025
Dear NHTSA, On two separate occasions—May 2025 and December 2025, approximately six months apart—I experienced fuel leaks from the upper fuel filter on my 2017 F-350 while driving. Both filters had previously been replaced with genuine Ford parts. I am deeply concerned that my safety was compromised during these incidents. In both cases, diesel fuel was leaking down the engine compartment without any warning indicators or alerts on the dashboard. The only indication of a problem was the smell of fuel, which I initially assumed was external. It wasn’t until I stopped the vehicle that I discovered a steady stream of fuel leaking. The most recent occurrence happened while I was on vacation, approximately 650 miles from home. There were no prior symptoms or warnings, making it extremely difficult to detect while driving, as the smell dissipates in the wind. In my opinion, this represents a significant safety hazard. Diesel fuel streaming down a hot engine could easily result in a fire, posing a serious risk to both the driver and passengers.

I have a 2017 F-350 SuperDuty with the Engine Block Heater option, two recalls have been issued related to a condition that can cause overheating of the power cord with the possibility of a fire. Recall 18V-894 and 19V-278 have both been applied and verified by Ford Customer Service. During the recent cold weather in the Houston, Texas area, the engine block heater was used to keep the engine warm to assist with starting. When I disconnected the power cord the was hot enough to have melted the plug to the point where the blades in the plug were loose and I had to use gloves to separate the engine heater cord from the extension cord. This should have been fixed under one or both of the previous recalls. It represents an electrical hazard that could lead to fire and loss of property. I asked Ford to remedy the situation under case XXX and they have declined to resolve the hazard. Please review this case and have Ford issue a third recall to remedy this safety issue. I have provided pictures to assist in your determination. Regards, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

This truck had a complete fuel system replaced already once when it failed while the customer was driving. We are the next owners and didn't know it had this major failure before purchase. We know this fuel pump is an issue and Ford has active law suits against them as these pumps that they continue to put even in the new Fords and all other makes of trucks are blowing up daily. Ford sees it as a revenue stream to keep their shops busy. Fuel is highly flammable and we tow a travel trailer. I would hate to see something bad happen because they won't issue a recall. There several years that are under recall currently and our year is not one of them but it has the same pump. They should not only issue recalls on all trucks that have the known failing CP4 pump, but also give the customers the option to upgrade with the after market DCR pump. The one pump that has been the #1 best replacement option. Installing a new CP4 pump only buys Ford mote time to next failure and keeps their ships full. We spent 50k on this truck. Again, it already happened once! Let's be sure to issue recalls on ALL trucks with CP4 pumps with a real solution and not just another dangerous CP4. We don't want our truck to catch on fire while driving. Its a very big safety concern!

POWER TRAIN May 28, 2025
While driving my 2017 Ford F-350 equipped with the 6R140 transmission, the vehicle experienced a sudden and complete transmission failure due to a valve body malfunction. Without warning, the transmission lost all ability to engage gears, resulting in an immediate loss of power and drivability. This failure occurred while the vehicle was in motion, presenting a serious safety risk to both occupants and other motorists — especially in high-speed or high-traffic situations. The risk is further compounded when the vehicle is towing, as it may increase stopping distance, reduce control, and leave the driver stranded in unsafe conditions. This type of failure appears to be part of a broader pattern affecting this transmission platform, which raises significant concerns about its reliability and safe operation under normal usage. There were warning lights or other symptoms prior to the failure. The damage has since been remedied, with an astounding out of pocket cost of $8,300 for a total transmission rebuild.

When you start the vehicle the brake pedal falls to the floor and you can not stop it. Also at a stop the brake pedal slowly falls to the floor. According to the dealer they don’t know what causes this and it still does it. They said no ABS lights came on so this is normal. I don’t think it’s normal if I put it in reverse and can not get it to stop because the pedal recedes out of my reach. The truck kept going in reverse the brakes wouldn’t stop it.

The complete contaminated fuel system is required to be replaced by a High Pressure Fuel Pump KIT, which the Dealer ordered against the workorder for my truck. For over a month now, My truck is parked in the dealer storage and stating they are waiting on approval to start repair. Note I have Ford's Extended Warranty. I've read online that many other owners of 6.7L Diesel trucks are having the same problems. I my opinion, a RECALL is certainly justified for this issue.

The plastic frame holding the rear cab glass has broken causing the glass to come loose making a concern of the glass falling into cab and injuring a passenger. This has been checked by both a Ford dealership/service center and Safelite glass. Both service providers indicate that there is not a repair for this it is a complete replacement of the window. I have been informed by Safelite that they have replaced many of these because the adhesive used during manufacturing does not properly adhere to the plastic frame/rail resulting in the failure. Furthermore, the replacement window has a different design, to eliminate this problem from reoccurring.

2017 Ford F-350 with door latches that freeze. There are multiple symptoms which occur whenever the temperature drops below 32 degrees: (1) The door will not open when door handle pulled, (2) the door opens but latch sticks in the "open" position which does not allow door to latch closed, or (3) the door opens while driving due to not being fully latched. I have only had #3 happen once. Primarily, #2 is the scenario that happens most often. I am able to open the driver's door, but cannot drive the vehicle until I am able to exercise or warm up the latching mechanism enough to safely latch the door. This is accomplished by pressing the door lock/unlock switch repeatedly or slamming and holding the door, then pressing the lock button. I am told by the dealership that my VIN does not qualify for Recall 17S33. It did qualify for Customer Service Program 18N03, which was performed in 2022. However, the "fix" did not last beyond a month or so and Ford clearly states that 18N03 is a "One Time Only" repair. It seems to me that Ford knew back in 2017 (or before) they had problems with freezing door latches as this also occurs on the F150 and there have been MULTIPLE recalls that still have not fixed the issue. At best, this is annoying that a $75,000 vehicle cannot be driven until the door has been slammed, exercised, or manipulated enough times to allow the door to latch. This, of course, assume the door opens to begin with. At worst, this vehicle is a rolling deathtrap as the occupants wait for the door to suddenly open while moving. My dealer is no help. They lean on the "One Time Only" clause in 18N03. They have charged parts to my extended warranty without knowing if the part is bad or the cause of the problem, then smile as they tell me there is "no charge" to me.

the fuel pump failed causing the truck to lose power and ultimately shutdown while driving down the interstate. no warning messages received. our safety was put at risk because the vehicle completely shut down causing us to almost get rear ended on the interstate this problem has been confirmed not only in our vehicle but thousands of other vehicles of the same year, make, and model.

During recent oil change at a Ford dealership, Ford warned of an Oil Leaknon the “Upper Oil Pan” that could cause a fire and total loss. This problem was due to the improper installation of a gasket sealant at the time of manufacture. 2020 variants of the same vehicle saw the silicone gasket previously being used replaced be a conventional gasket which has rectified the issues being experienced by these models. These affected vehicles could pose a major risk not only the owners but to other motorists in the event a fire spontaneously ignites. They should be recalled and a conventional gasket (as has been implemented by Ford themselves) installed.

I experienced what is known as the “Death wobble” after contacting a bumpy road at approximately 70 mph. I was able to exit the freeway and determine that it wasn’t a blown tire or some other condition that caused this. After some research on my vehicle, I determined that this “death wobble” is fairly common with my model and year of truck.

For many months while attemting to slide open or tilt my sun roof the sun roof would jamb and not move. Then one day after I was able to get my sunroof into the tilted up position I was unable to get it to re turn down and sealed. Took my Vehicle to the FORD dealer near me where they confirmed that the sun roof track had been severely damaged and would need to have the entire frame rail replaced at a cost of $6,000+. Upon researching online I have come to find out that many of Ford vehicles equiped with the panoramic sunroof have had this exact same problem and the primary cause of the problem was substandard plastic material being used in the track/frame design that fractures easily and jambs and breaks sunroof components. Because of this problem I was unable to close my sunroof subjecting my vehicle to water damages and forceing me to have the dealer fix it to avoid water damage at an exorbenant cost.

Engine had 77K miles on it and began knocking while towing a 5th wheel trailer. Took vehicle to diesel mechanic and was informed of rod bearing issues with the 6.7 powerstroke diesel. The entire long block had to be replaced due to poor design issues which were corrected with he new long block. Vehicle was out of the warranty period despite only have 77K miles on the engine and all maintenance was up to date.

Brake rotors are glazing over after replacement, truck is rarely driven as its a weekend vehicle in town. I was told when I took in to dealership that the problem wasnt sticking calipers at the time but dealership didnt confirm checking, they just replaced the rotors and pads then sent me on my way. Now at current servicing the problem is re-occuring. The service tech is now attempting to re-charge me to diagnose and repair. I'm simply asking to verify if there was ever any recall related to this vehicle in the past to support my issue

When towing a fifth wheel trailer and going down a hill the vehicle went into an oscillation that caused sever wobbling of the front end almost causing me to lose control of the vehicle that was towing the trailer. This was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced in my life. after doing some research Ford Motor Company knows about this issue and has yet to recall this problem it is also known as the Death wobble. Is it actually going to take someone's death to see something happen about this well know issue, I certainly hope not and I hope the NHTSA will do something to force Ford Motor Company to correct this issue before someone does die from the "Death Wobble"

TIRES Jun 21, 2024
Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure, LT265/70R18. On [XXX] at 113806 miles, I discovered that the driver's side front tire on the vehicle was flat in my driveway. Investigation revealed a puncture in the tread of the tire, caused by a gravel stone still lodged in the tire. Based on the amount of protrusion of the stone and the lack of any visible wear on it, I concluded that the stone must have originated in my gravel driveway when returning home the night before. The tire had been installed on 6/20/2023 at 104513.5 miles, being in service for 1 year and 9293 miles, not even 20% into its expected life. Initial assessment of the damage to the tire, including the puncture size and longitudinal shape, suggests that repair will not be feasible and the tire will require replacement. While a flat tire due to foreign objects is commonplace, the safety concern here is that a simple small stone from a gravel driveway should not have been able to cause the failure of a 'Kevlar reinforced' all-terrain truck tire. I believe the materials or construction of these tires may be defective and may have insufficient tensile strength in the tread material, causing them to yield and fail at much lower forces than are to be expected from tires in highway use. At any rate a well-packed gravel driveway that has been in use for many years should not be a challenge to the safety and performance of a truck tire rated for highway use. This tire failure comes less than a month and 1000 miles after a more dramatic and catastrophic failure of another tire of the same model on the same vehicle. While coincidence cannot be ruled out, two failures of the same model tire, both related to weak or defective tread sections, points to possible defects that should be investigated. Noticed thumping sound in rear seat area of my truck when going over bumps. Got home and when looking in rear seat noticed the rear sliding windows was loose and was leaning inward that left a gap between the sliding window and main rear window which left alone would let rain in and may make it easier for someone to break in the truck. Had to take truck in for service the next day and when I showed them what had happened they said they had seen it before that it needed to be resealed. Since my truck has the best extended warranty they needed to get it approved to see what Ford is the repair for this issue. I contact the dealership later in the week to find out my extended warranty would not cover it and there solution was to replace the complete window. This made no since since the top track holding the window in place had come unglued. Ford solution is to replace the complete windows for around $1,600.00 at my expense. Come to find out according to YouTube this is an issue Ford since 2015 which is when they changed their rear sliding windows. Solution is to have the track taken off adhesive removed from the track and around the top of the rear windows. Use 3M window adhesive 08609 with 3M Primer -8681 and reattach the tack.
TIRES Jun 21, 2024
Goodyear Wrangler All-Terrain Adventure, LT275/70R18 Tire installed new on [XXX] at 79892 miles. Tires were properly maintained including proper inflation and rotated. On [XXX] at 112745 miles the driver side rear tire suffered a sudden and catastrophic tread separation failure. At the time of failure, tire had been in service for 33 months and 32,853 miles, and had significant tread life remaining. Vehicle was travelling at approximately 55 mph on an asphalt highway on a hot, dry day. The separated tread damaged the rear body panel and severed the body structural support member in half. The vehicle was brought to a controlled stop, the separated tread was retrieved from the roadway, and the spare tire was installed. The tire was replaced the following day. Given that the tire was only about 50-60% into its usable life and well within the 50,000 mile warranty, this failure was unexpected. Goodyear has not provided any method to contact them directly and instead referred me to local retailers who have been unable to process the warranty claim. A second, much newer tire of the same model on the same vehicle failed in a different manner just 3 weeks and 1000 miles later, causing me concern of structural or material defects with these tires. At differing speeds the truck experienced the "death wobble" causing the front end of the vehicle to shake uncontrollably. This happened 2 times before I had the tie rod ends replaced and several times afterward. You have to almost stop the vehicle to get the shaking to go away. It is a tremendous safety risk and could cause an accident due to the shaking or due to needing to slow almost to a stop - which could cause a rear end collision. This is a common problem with Ford F250 and F350 trucks. I had my mechanic inspect all the front end parts and he recommended replacing the tie rods and track bar. No warning lamps or other symptoms. The issue happened out of the blue.

The Fords have two issues with the fuel system. The CP4 fuel pumps have a common failure imploding and sending metal through the fuel system, a costly repair over $12,000. The second extremely dangerous failure on the fuel filter housing. It cracks spraying fuel into the engine compartment. If not shut off immediately a fire engulfs the car. Both are extremely Common, a safety hazard and expensive repair that Ford should fix immediately.

Truck has only 70,371 mile on it and the RTM Module associated with the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) failed and must be replaced, at owners expense. The TPMS is NHTSA mandated safety requirement. There should be specific published performance standards and expectations. Example: it is known the sensors themselves are battery operated and have an estimated battery life of 5-7 years. The RTM module is permanently mounted to the vehicle frame/body and should carry a reasonable published life expectancy.

The owners manual states I have a tank capacity of 36 gallons. On E I can only fit about 26 gallons. If I were to take my average MPG and use the advertised 36 gallons to figure out how far I would run out of fuel and this would cause the vehicle to stall while driving. Ford is aware of this issue and knows how to fix it but declined to take care of the safety repair.
