FORD IS RECALLING MODEL YEARS 1995-2003 WINDSTAR, 2000-2003 EXCURSION DIESEL, 1993-1997 AND 1999-2003 F-250 SD THROUGH F-550 SD DIESEL, 1992-2003 E-150 THROUGH E-550, 1995-2002 EXPLORER, 1997 AND 2002 MERCURY MOUNTAINEER, 1995-1997 AND 2001-2003 RANGER, AND 1994 F53 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE TEXAS INSTRUMENTS SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS). THE SCDS MAY LEAK INTERNALLY AND THEN OVERHEAT, SMOKE, OR BURN.
Remedy: FORD WILL NOTIFY OWNERS THAT DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS IN LINE WITH THE SCDS. ON 1999-2003 WINDSTAR VEHICLES WITH A LEAKING SCDS, DEALERS WILL ALSO INSPECT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY. REPAIRS WILL BE COMPLETED FREE OF CHARGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000.

1 OPERATING HOUR AFTER COMING DOWN A 7% GRADE MY 1999 F350 TRUCK WITH CAMPER SUFFERED COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO A CORRODED BRAKE LINE. THE FAULT OCCURRED IN A CLIP WHERE MOISTURE AND ABRASIVES HAD BEEN HELD AGAINST THE STEEL BRAKE LINE. NEARBY DIESEL FUEL LINES EXHIBITED NO RUST. BECAUSE FORD USED STEEL THAT CAN RUST FOR THE CRITICAL BRAKE LINE, MY FAMILY ALMOST LOST OUR LIVES AND POTENTIALLY CAUSED THE DEATHS OF OTHERS. THE REPLACEMENT LEFT PAR OF THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LINE IN PLACE. *TR

WE WERE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS SHAKING. WHEN WE ARRIVED AT OUR DESTINATION WE FOUND THAT THE RIGHT REAR TIRE HAS A LARGE BULGE ON THE TREAD OF THE TIRE. WE WENT ON LINE TO INVESTIGATE THESE TYPE OF TIRES AND FOUND THAT COOPER TIRE CO. HAD A RECALL ON THOSE SIMILAR TYPE OF TIRES HOWEVER, WE HAVE THE MT STYLE TIRE AND THEY HAD RECALLED THE RT STYLE DUE TO STEEL CORDS BUSTING IN THE TIRES. THE RECALL IS FOR THE EXACT SAME TIRE EXCEPT THAT OURS ARE A MUD TERRAIN AND THE RECALL IS FOR THE RADIAL TREAD TIRE. *TR

ON OCTOBER 21, 2008, THE FIRST TIRE FAILED, WITH COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION FROM THE CARCASS WHICH CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. ON JULY 8, 2009, THE SECOND TIRE FAILED WITH INCIPIENT TREAD SEPARATION. ON NOVEMBER 20, 2009, THE THIRD TIRE FAILED CATASTROPHICALLY WITH COMPLETE TREAD SEPARATION AND SUDDEN EXPLOSIVE RUPTURE OF THE CARCASS, WHICH CAUSED MORE DAMAGE TO THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE. ON APRIL 17, 2010 THE FOURTH TIRE FAILED WITH PARTIAL TREAD SEPARATION AND SUDDEN EXPLOSIVE RUPTURE OF THE CARCASS AND THE TREAD AREA. THE CONSUMER LEARNED THAT COOPER CHANGES ITS RUBBER COMPOUND, PERHAPS MANY TIMES WITHOUT INFORMING SUPPLIERS. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THE FIFTH TIRE IS NOW CRACKING DEEPLY BETWEEN THE TREAD. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT DID CALL; THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE BRAKE LINE AT HIS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 72,000.
I WONDERED IF THE SITUATION I'M ABOUT TO PRESENT ARE GROUNDS FOR INVESTIGATION FOR A SAFETY RECALL. BOTH AIRBAGS ON MY 1999 F350 SUPER DUTY TURBO DIESEL 7.3L WERE DEPLOYED HITTING ME ON MY CHEST AND MY 17YR SON ON HIS FACE, IMPAIRING THE ABILITY TO DRIVE TILL WE WENT TO A HALT, THANK GOD I WAS ONLY GOING 30MPH AND NOT TOO MUCH TRAFFIC ON EITHER SIDE. CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT COULD HAPPEN AT THE FREEWAY AT 65MPH. PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG COVER SHATTERED THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. ALL OF THIS HAPPENED WHEN THE SHAFT BECAME LOOSE FROM THE TRANSMISSION JOINT, THE SHAFT 12.9 GRADE BOLTS BROKE IN HALF AND THE ROCKING SHAFT DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION CASING AND BRACKETS, DEPLOYING THE 2 AIRBAGS AND SHATTERING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG COVER,MAKING THE VEHICLE UNUSABLE. FORD CO. ASSUMED NO RESPONSIBILITY ON THIS ISSUE AT ALL, NOT EVEN ATTEMPTED TO INVESTIGATE OR TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ON HOW THE PART BROKE AND WHY THE AIRBAGS WERE DEPLOYED IN THE ABSENCE OF A CRASH. THIS SITUATION WILL COST ME A LOT OF MONEY, SUFFERING, FINANCIAL SITUATION AND DEFINITELY COULD CAUSE INJURIES AND DEATH. WHILE DRIVING A 1999 FORD F-350 I HIT A SMALL BUMP IN A PARKING LOT AND BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER TOM HOLZER FORD WHO REFUSED TO LOOK AT IT AND TOLD ME IT DOESN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE AIR BAGS BUT HAVE HEARD AFTER THE INCIDENT THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. I AM CONCERNED THAT I WILL REPLACE THE AIR BAGS AND THEY WILL DEPLOY AGAIN, AND CAUSE SOME TYPE OF ACCIDENT. *TR

WHEN THE SERVICE STATION TOOK THE WHEEL OFF THE TRUCK AND PUT AIR INTO THE TIRE WE COULD HEAR AIR LEAKING OUT. WE THEN LOCATED A CRACK IN THE ALUMINUM WHEEL. WE THEN LOCATED A SECOND CRACK IN THE ALUMINUM WHEEL. WE THEN CONTACTED A JUNK YARD ( D&D, NEWCOMERS) ABOUT PURCHASING A USED ALUMINUM WHEEL FORD PART # F 81A1007GB, BOTH SAID THAT THEY DO NOT SELL THIS USED WHEEL DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. WE THEY ASK IF WE COULD PURCHASE A REFURBISHED ALUMINUM WHEEL AND BOTH AGAIN SAID THAT NO ONE WOULD REFURBISH THE FRONT PART DUE TO DEFECT. I HAVE CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE LOCAL FORD DEALER HAGERSTOWN FORD SERVICE MANAGER AND THEY SAID THAT THEY KNOW OF NO DEFECT. MY FATHER AND I WERE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 96 IN MICHIGAN IN MY 1999 FORD F350 SUPER DUTY TRUCK. WE WERE GOING ABOUT 68MPH AND HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR APPROX 2HOURS PRIOR. ALL THE SUDDEN, WE HEARD SOMETHING RATTLING AND THEN THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE BLEW OUT SENDING OUR VEHICLE SLIDING TO THE SIDE. WE NEARLY ROLLED MY TRUCK. AFTER PULLING OVER AND FURTHER INSPECTION WITH THE TOWING COMPANY, WE DETERMINED THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING HAD FRACTURED AND PLUNGED ITSELF INTO MY TIRE. THIS ALMOST KILLED US AND WE ARE VERY UPSET NOT TO MENTION THE TOW BILL, NEW TIRE, AND NEW SPRINGS. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HE HAS NOTIFIED ME THAT ALL OF THESE TRUCKS DO THIS AND IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. SOMEONE NEEDS TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM BEFORE MORE HARDWORKING PEOPLE THAT SPENT GOOD MONEY TO BUY A WORK TRUCK ARE INJURED OR KILLED. I CANNOT GET THE FORD DEALER TO COVER THE ISSUE AND WOULD LIKE HELP. I NOW AM FACED WITH A $1200 REPAIR BILL IN ADDITION TO THE TOW BILL TO CORRECT THE SITUATION. *TR

DRIVING MY 1999 F350 FORD CREW CAB LONG BOX. VEH IS A 7.3 DIESEL WITH A 6ZF 6SPD TRANSMISSION. TRAVELING 75MPH THE VEHICLE DEVELOPS A MILD VIBRATION. I PUSH IN THE CLUTCH TO PULL OUT OF TRAFFIC, THE REAR DRIVE LINE FLANGE BOLTS SHEER OFF AT THE TRANSFER CASE, THE DRIVE LINE KNOCKS A HOLE IN THE FLOOR BOARD OF THE VEHICLE CAVES IN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER TEARS OUT THE CARRIER BEARING AND SEPARATES THE TWO PIECE DRIVE SHAFT. THE REAR SECTION OF THE DRIVE SHAFT HITS THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL SENDING THE REAR OF THE TRUCK AIRBORNE AND BREAKING THE DRIVE LINE OFF AT THE REAR AXLE. FURTHER INSPECTION I FIND THE TRANSFER CASE HAS BEEN TORN FROM THE TRANSMISSION EXTENSION HOUSING DESTROYING THE TRANSMISSION HOUSING. THIS TRUCK HAS 124000 MILES ON IT HAS NEVER HAD WORK ON THE DRIVE TRAIN. AND INSPECTION OF THE DRIVE TRAIN LESS THAN A YEAR AGO SHOWED NO SIGNS OF EXCESS WEAR. *TR

I WAS GOING TO THE STORE TO FINISH CHRISTMAS SHOPPING. I WAS STOPPED IN THE PARKING LOT WAITING TO TURN LEFT WHEN I HEARD A VERY LOAD BANG FROM UNDER THE HOOD. I FIRST THOUGHT SOMETHING ON THE EXHAUST BROKE. ON 9/23/2008 I ORDERED AND RECEIVED 4 DAYTON (E) RATED 265/75R/16 TIRES FROM H&F TIRE IN LANCASTER, PA. THEY ARE MADE BY FIRESTONE/ BRIDGESTONE. I MOUNTED, BALANCED, AND INSTALLED THEM ON A CUSTOMERS F350 SUPERCAB WORK TRUCK. ON 9/25 I ORDERED 4 MORE OF THE SAME TIRES FOR THE SAME CUSTOMERS OTHER WORK TRUCK. ON 9/26 THERE WAS A RIM AND TIRE LEFT AT MY FRONT DOOR THAT HAD A LARGE BULGE ON THE SIDEWALL. IT WAS ONE OF THE TIRES THAT I INSTALLED 2 DAYS PRIOR. I ORDERED A REPLACEMENT. I REFUSED TO GIVE IT UP. THEY HAVE THE OTHER 3. I WAS BILLED FOR 12TIRES AND A FINANCE CHARGE FOR NOT PAYING LAST MONTH. I PAID THE BILL AND DEMANDED THE OTHER TIRES BACK. FINALLY I TALKED TO MY COUSIN, A DODGE MECHANIC, HE EXPLAINED THAT FORD KNEW OF A SERIOUS DEFECT WITH THEIR CAM SENSOR ON THAT YEAR TRUCK - HE EXPLAINED WHAT IT SHOULD COST TO FIX IT. I TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC AND HE FIXED IT IN HIS SHOP FOR EXACTLY WHAT MY COUSIN SAID IT WOULD COST. FORD STILL HAS NOT ACKNOWLEDGED THEY KNEW OF A PROBLEM. SECOND PROBLEM WAS WITH MY BRAKES. THE LEFT FRONT CALIPER BROKE OFF AND JAMMED IN THE REST OF THE BRAKE AND STOPPED MY TRUCK VERY SUDDENLY. I ALMOST WENT THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. I HAD THEM REPLACED WITH FORD PARTS. I HAVE HAD THE NEW BRAKES BACK INTO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AS THEY SEEM TO BE DOING THE SAME AS THE FIRST SET - PULLING TO THE LEFT AND NOT WORKING PARTICULARLY WELL. I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO THE WAY I DRIVE - DOWNHILL AND STEERING TO THE RIGHT WHILE BRAKING - NONSENSE- I ANTICIPATE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AT ANY TIME AND STOPPING, DANGEROUSLY, SUDDENLY ON THE MAIN STREET OF MY SMALL TOWN JUST AS HAPPENED LAST TIME. *TR

FORD F350 V10, MULTIPLE SPARK PLUG EJECTIONS FROM CYLINDER HEADS. HAS HAPPENED MANY TIMES, REINSERTED PLUGS PER "FORDS" RECOMMENDATION, AS IF I WAS UNABLE TO PROPERLY TORQUE PLUGS. NOW I AM LEFT WITH MY FAMILIES TRUCK, STRIPPED HEADS AND NO MONEY TO FIX IT. *TR
THE BATTERIES ON MY 1999 F350 CREW CAB DUALLY WITH A 7.3 DIESEL WENT DEAD. WHEN I TRIED TO CHARGE THE BATTERIES THE CHARGER SHOWED AN EXTREMELY HIGH DRAW. I HEARD A SOLENOID CLICKING UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE BATTERY AND THE RADIO WOULD TURN ON AND OFF. I ALSO NOTICED THAT MY HEATER CONTROL WOULD WORK EVEN WITH THE KEY OFF. AFTER TAKING TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER I WAS TOLD THAT THE WINDSHIELD WAS LEAKING AND WATER HAD DAMAGED THE GEM MODULE AND THE FUSE BLOCK. REPAIR COST TO REPLACE THE GEM MODULE, FUSE BLOCK AND SEAL THE LEAKING AREA WAS $1063.01. WHEN CHECKING THE INTERNET TO SEE WHAT THE GEM MODULE CONTROLLED I FIND THAT THE WATER LEAK IS A KNOW PROBLEM DUE TO A SKIP OR VOID IN THE PRODUCTION SEALER. ACCORDING TO THE FORUMS I HAVE READ THERE ARE MANY MANY TRUCKS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. FROM WHAT I FOUND THERE ARE TWO TSB'S ISSUED FOR THE WATER LEAK. THEY ARE TSB 99-2-3 AND 04-23-9. FROM COMMENTS ON THE INTERNET SEVERAL TRUCKS HAVE CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED UP. FORD APPARENTLY DOESN'T THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM AND HAS NOT TAKEN ACTION TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM NOR WILL THEY ASSIST IN THE REPAIR. *TR
