FUEL MAY BE SUPPLIED FROM ONE TANK AND SOME OR ALL OF THE UNUSED FUEL MAY BE RETURNED TO THE OTHER TANK.
Remedy: FORD IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR POTENTIAL FUEL CROSS-FLOW TO 12 YEARS OF SERVICE OR 150,000 MILES FROM THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY START DATE, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. THIS COVER WILL AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFER TO SUBSEQUENT OWNERS AT NO CHARGE. IF A VEHICLE ALREADY HAS MORE THAN 150,000 MILES, THIS OVERAGE WILL LAST UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2001. IF THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING A FUEL CROSS-FLOW CONDITION, DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE CONDITION FREE OF CHARGE.

Remedy: A SHIELD WILL BE POSITIONED BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE IGNITION SWITCH AND HELD IN PLACE BY THE STEERING LOCK BAND.

The contact owns a 1991 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the rear fuel tank gauge began indicating that the rear tank was losing fuel abnormally fast. After a visual inspection, the contact observed that fuel was flowing from the rear fuel tank into the front fuel tank. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the fuel pump assembly check valve; however, the dealer declined to attempt to repair the vehicle due to the age of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 93V125000 (Fuel System, Gasoline), but was unaware if the VIN was ever included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was later informed that the VIN was included in the recall and had been repaired already. The failure mileage was 112,000.

I DO NOT KNOW IF THE PREVIOUS OWNER ADDRESSED THE RECALL BUT IT IS A PROBLEM RIGHT NOW. WHEN I PURCHASED THE TRUCK, I DIDN'T KNOW IT HAD A CROSS-FLOW PROBLEM UNTIL SOMEONE TOLD ME SOMETHING WAS LEAKING FROM UNDER MY TRUCK. SINCE THEN, I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE GOES DOWN QUICKER THAN IT SHOULD AND WHEN I SWITCH TANKS, THE OTHER TANK HAS MORE FUEL THAN IT DID. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS REGARDLESS IF IN MOTION OR STANDING STILL. IF THE TRACK WAS FIXED VIA A RECALL, THEY OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T DO IT RIGHT OR THE "FIX" DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PAINT ON THE FRONT HOOD HAS PEELED RIGHT DOWN TO THE METAL. THIS HAS BEEN SLOWLY OCCURRING FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS NOW. FORD AND AUTO BODY SHOPS SAY IT IS DUE TO POOR OR NO UNDERCOAT, YET FORD SAYS TO BAD. APPARENTLY THEY HAD A RECALL ON THIS AT ONE TIME BUT MY TRUCK WAS NO PEELING THEN IT STARTED A YEAR OR TWO AFTER THIS, WHEN REPORTED FORD SAID TO BAD AS YOU SHOULD HAVE COME IN SOONER, WHY WOULD YOU SINCE IT WAS NOT PEELING. THE TRUCK HAS ONLY 80,000 KILOMETERS ON IT AND IS IN GREAT SHAPE EXCEPT FOR THE HOOD. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE FUEL PUMP IS CAUSING THE UNUSED FUEL FROM ONE TANK TO RETURN TO THE SECONDARY TANK CAUSING SPILLAGE. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 93V125000, REGARDING THE FUEL SYSTEM TANK ASSEMBLY. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.

I CHECKED WITH THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP (CENTROPLEX FORD IN KILLEEN, TEXAS, WHICH IS NOW AUTOMAX FORD) ABOUT FORD'S LIABILITY AND THEY SAID REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED BECAUSE THE FACTORY WARRANTY HAD LONG EXPIRED. I THEREFORE SOUGHT COMPENSATION THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. I PAID FOR THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO PERFORM REPAIRS, WHICH WERE NOT DONE SATISFACTORILY. I AM REPORTING THIS NOW BECAUSE THE INCIDENT IS VERY SIMILAR TO RECENT OCCURRENCES THAT HAVE CAUSED DEATHS AND RESULTED IN A MAJOR RECALL. DT: THE CONTACT OWNED A 1991 FORD F150. HE STATED THAT THE ABS BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED. NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ABS SENSOR IN THE DIFFERENTIAL UNIT AND THE ABS MODULE CONTROL. THE TOTAL COST TO REPAIR THEM WAS MORE THAN $1200.00. THE FORD MECHANIC TOLD CONTACT THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM FOR THE ABS IN A FORD TO FAIL. *AK

DT: HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE AND TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC THAT SAID THERE WAS A RECALL. CONTACTED FORD, AND THEY SAID THE RECALL EXPIRED AT 150,000 OR 12 YEARS. THE FUEL WAS RUNNING THROUGH THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE CHECK VALUE. DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE JUST QUIT.
