Upon researching online it seems these truck have a common issue with clock spring fail. This is concerning because not only does the clock spring provide power to the horn and steering wheel controls, it could also effect the airbag function.

POWER TRAIN Mar 21, 2026
My 2017 Ram 2500, 6.4L Hemi experiences warning lights which I'm told is caused by intermittent PCM failure. I'm told this can cause the truck to stall while in motion, refuse to start, or enter "limp mode". This amounts to a possible unsafe condition that can put myself and passengers at risk of property damage, bodily injury or worse. I brought the truck to Priority Automotive of Westerly, LLC on March 9, 2026 for diagnosis. Their diagnosis (attached) recommended replacing the PCM to correct (possibly), "...intermittent internal short(s)". Cost of the repair is $2,012.42. Subsequently, I contacted customer care at Stellantis (866-726-4636) and was given Case #[XXX]. I was told to make an appointment at the aforementioned dealership and call them the day before the appointment, so they could send a representative to the dealership for examination. I did exactly that to no avail. No one from Stellantis even contacted the dealership on the appointment date. I called them to find out what happened, only to find out (from a supervisor) that they are not offering assistance in the matter. Additionally, the truck is currently under recall #C4B/NHTSA 24V-896 (PCM related) and, to-date, I'm told the part is still not available after more than a year since the recall. I've owned Dodge Rams for over 27 years and find the situation unsafe and totally unacceptable. I'm also aware that many other owners of the 2017 Ram 2500 6.4L experience PCM/ECM issues, causing no-start conditions or stalling, and have reported them alongside braking system complaints. This CHEAP fix is abhorrent! It calls for welding an adjustable part of the steering linkage rendering it non- adjustable when having the front end aligned in the future. Not to mention the effect of welding, potentially causing a problem with the integrity of the metal. The correct fix for this SAFETY issue is to REPLACE this steering linkage component, the entire Drag Link! NOT do a "back yard, shade tree mechanic" weld job on the steering linkage of all things! I am appalled that NHTSA approved such a thing. PLEASE revisit this issue and do the right thing. Require Chrysler (FCA US LLC) to REPLACE this defective part with the proper part. Note.... Chrysler is not welding the nuts on the drag links on trucks coming off the assembly line! They are coming off with proper, safe, adjustable drag links! I contacted FCA and they said they cannot redo the recall because it's out of the window to get it repaired again. This is not a safe fix. The recall says after this welding, the vehicle can still get a proper alignment from dealer, which is not true. I contacted the dealer and they said I should contact FCA, but that sent me back to my original issue. I can't get an alignment even though the recall fix says I can. I dealer refuses to do it. I bought this truck used from the dealer and they wouldn't fix it at the time either. I pull a fifth wheel trailer with my truck and I need an alignment. This recall weld fix is just not right, a cheap fix for a long-term problem and very unsafe. Please help and please point me in the right direction. Thank you

It failed again 12/2024 but before it could be replaced a recal for the HCU came out with the warning "The loss of ABS/ESC/Traction control may cause a vehicle crash without prior warning" Now the warning light keeps coming on and going off with the alarm sound as I drive. It also turns off the cruise control. This has been going on for well over a year with no date for a fix of something that can cause a crash without prior warning. There doesnt seem to be any urgency to fix something that can cause such a big problem. I have no choice other than to keep driving my truck hoping for the best. Any help with this is most appreciated. Thank you for your time, G. May

Hello, I received a recall notice "C7B" from FCA. Checking with my dodge dealer they said it has been completed. Problem is I never had this done. FYI, I have had past problems with this break system and it had been replaced I think 3 time, but no recall had been issued before all this. Anyway I contacted FCA and they now have given me the updated recall notice called C4B with no resolution or repairs and referred me to arbitration.

My ABS light has been on for 2 years. It was previously diagnosed as the ABS pump/module. The parts were on backorder. The C4B Recall came out over a year ago. There is still no parts available. My truck is at the dealer right now and they said they can't do anything with the Recall. I figured they could at least verify the failure and put in an order for the part. This a big safety issue for tons of RAM owners as most of us bought these trucks to tow and haul heavy equipment, trailers etc.. I am on several forums and everyone wants to get these repairs completed.

Received a re-call letter from FCA US LLC back in November of 2024 stating there was a re-call for the HCU which will affect the ABS as well and the ESC. ( Letter attached). Upon receiving the letter, I immediately ( with a day) starting calling around to dealerships to get it fixed, and not one was able to help me. Stating the part isn’t available, which was odd as I just received the letter. So I was thinking maybe I called to soon. I called once a month, every month since November 2024. Thinking this would be enough time to find the part, or find a new company or have the part fabricated some how? After months of no luck, I called Mopar/ Fiat. I was told the company that makes the part is no longer in business and when I asked about any other company making this part, no one was able to give me an answer or even another option for getting the re-call fixed. So, that leaves no solutions to get it fixed. Not to mention the chance of failure ( safety) and that fact that it’ll affect my trucks trade-in value. I have been patiently waiting, but nothing seems to be happening. No one is in a rush to find a solution. This is disheartening, as I have been a loyal Ram owner for 10+ years ( 3 trucks in total).

I was pulling my gooseneck trailer with equipment on it and had to stop quick because car pulled out in front of me an when I pushed the brake pedal it was very hard to push an my exhaust brakes did not come on an I noticed check brakes light an anti trac light were both on.exhaust brake was turned on in full exhaust an exhaust light on dash showed it to be on but exhaust brakes did not start working so I had ended up leaving the highway an going through a ditch so I wouldn't hit the vehicle in front of me an hurting or killing someone or myself, luckily it wasn't a steep ditch so I was able to make it down to the service road down below without any injuries or damages to my truck or trailer or equipment, I've call several times once I recieved the recall notice about hydraulic brake problem on my truck an all they tell me is call back later no parts available to fix the recall problem, it's been a year now an still no parts,I haven't pulled my trailer since that happend and it's very inconvenient an costly not being comfortable about pulling trailer an not being able to stop,I very seldom drive the truck at all just to local store about a mile from the house, out in the country with none or little traffic, how long is ram going to be able to say no parts available, I think the government should tell them its been a year an you still haven't fixed the trucks they should have to buy them back an the higher average resale price or give us another truck.

This is in regards to Recall #C4B for the ABS/HCU failure on my 2017 RAM. This recall was issued over a year ago in November of 2024, but Stellantis has yet to DO ANYTHING and can't even tell us when a remedy will be available. I have asked my local dealership and get the same answer, NOTHING!!! The parts must be available, because the dealership told me that I could purchase the part from them and pay them to install it. But, I would have to then wait to get reimbursed from Stellantis once the recall is "remedied". Two problems with this; 1) I don't have the $1500+ to spend on this, and 2) I don't trust them to ever pay me back! But, this does tell me that they have the parts. Plus, they have no trouble making and selling new vehicles with parts that don't have this safety failure. Can you make them prioritize this recall and take car of the thousands of RAM trucks with this safety issue. BTW, last month my brother-in-law was driving my truck on I-25 through Denver, CO. He hit an icy spot and lost traction causing him to go into a 360 spin. God was looking over him because he did hit anything or anyone. THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WOULD HAVE BEEN WORKING. STELLANTIS CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH!!!
