Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Car is in great shape, however, recently the Service AWD has popped up. brought it to the Reedman JEEP Dealership - they say its a bad PTU. Now I see a bunch of people have the bad PTU. Now I have a car in great shape minus the fact I won't be able to sell it or trade it in for full value and it cots thousands to fix.
Power Transfer Unit stopped working. Brakes locked up and car would not move. Is not drive-able at this time. Currently at a dealership awaiting part, of which there is NO ETA on. I was just entering a roundabout when the part failed, and I could have been hit as the vehicle fully stopped and could not be moved. There was a grinding noise and no warning prior of this part failing. For several months I've received "Service 4WD" notifications in my car and I have noticed it has difficult getting up hills specifically if there is any snow/even rain. I brought it in for repair and was told it was the Transfer Case Assembly (PTU) which is a very common issue they've seen with these Jeeps. I told them to go ahead and order the part to fix it. About a week later the service person was told that Chrysler corporate would not release the part because it was or would soon be a recall and they will only release it to the dealers to handle the recall (I understand there are only about 100 of the part available at this moment). I called 2 dealers and it is not appearing as a recall (yet) for my Jeep so they said they could not do anything and gave me the corporate number. Corporate said to reach out here or talk to the dealership again. It is clear that this is an issue for many and should be a recall. At this point, I am just trying to get my car fixed and I can't even get the part because it is in this "almost" recall stage.

The original fix, without the corrosion on the harness, was the place a piece of plastic over the module. That recall and fix did nothing to address the issues of multiple points of water intrusions. From body seems, the seal around the hatch, and around the tail light(s). There is more than one harness, and more than one module in the tire well. The multiple water leaks, that can and have affected an electrical component the was deemed as being a potential to start a fire, and none of the others in there are. There needs to be a recall on the water leaks, from their poor design! I have saw first hand how badly the harness they HAD to replace, along with the lift gate module. Because of the very seriousness of the corrosion. Where they not only replaced both of them, but also had to relocate the lift gate module, because of the evidence of the amount on water that has been entering the cargo, and wheel well areas! À 11 year old vehicle, from the information I have read up on, many with this same production years are also having the issues of water intrusions! Hold them responsible, instead of letting them cut corners of just trying to put a umbrella over there recall! I don't have pictures now, or when I took it to the dealership originally for the recall. The vehicle was recently taken to O'Reilly’s and AutoZone for diagnostic testing and the contact was provided fault codes for EVAP system leak detected, 1,2,3 Active Grille Shutter (AGS), throttle pedal position sensor switch A circuit high, System Voltage below and above Threshold, denied torque request signal, ECU configuration mismatch, ECU vehicle option mismatch, output speed sensor, input speed sensor/Correlation, fan 1 control circuit, throttle pedal position sensor switches D and B circuit low, and DTC U0402-00 for TCM immediate repair. The vehicle was recently taken to O'Reilly’s and AutoZone for diagnostic testing and the contact was provided fault codes for EVAP system leak detected, 1,2,3 Active Grille Shutter (AGS), throttle pedal position sensor switch A circuit high, System Voltage below and above Threshold, denied torque request signal, ECU configuration mismatch, ECU vehicle option mismatch, output speed sensor, input speed sensor/Correlation, fan 1 control circuit, throttle pedal position sensor switches D and B circuit low, and DTC U0402-00 for TCM immediate repair. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

My daughter was driving her car in the middle of a busy intersection when the parking brake locked up causing her to come to an abrupt stop and almost cause an accident. A quick google search appears to indicate that this issue has already been under investigation by NHTSA for a period of time.

My transmission failed and was not connecting with the driver train any more. The Jeep only has 112k miles on it. This recall mentions the transmission teeth being broken/wore down and creating an issue. NHTSA Campaign #:: 20V343000 I never got anything about this recall. My cost to replace the transmission was $4700.
I’m submitting a complaint regarding a Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure on my Jeep (VIN: [XXX] ), which affects the drivetrain and vehicle propulsion. On 11/26/2025, my vehicle was evaluated by Ourisman Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Bowie after dashboard warnings “Service 4WD” and “Service Shifter” appeared. The dealership diagnosed a PTU failure, provided a $3,835 estimate, and stated the required part is on national backorder with no availability date. The dealership also stated that if/when the part does become available, it is limited and can only order one part each month. Due to this failure, the vehicle may lose partial or complete drivetrain power while driving, potentially rendering it inoperable or impairing control, creating a safety risk, especially at highway speeds. Because the replacement part is unavailable with no foreseeable availability date for any customer experiencing this issue, the vehicle cannot be repaired at this time. This leaves me to operate a vehicle with a known drivetrain defect or remove it from service indefinitely, leaving me without transportation. Following my visit, I located a Jeep PTU warranty extension letter covering failures for 8 years/150,000 miles, confirming manufacturer awareness. No safety recall has been issued, as confirmed on [XXX] . The PTU failure was inspected and confirmed by the dealership. The manufacturer has not performed a physical inspection. I contacted Jeep Case Management regarding warranty coverage and next steps; despite providing documentation, Jeep has not offered a repair solution or timeline. I was advised my case could not remain open unless the vehicle was left at the dealership indefinitely, which is not feasible. My repair shop has told me that they have had to repair MULTIPLE other cars of this make and model for the same reason/ failed parts across multiple years up to until about 2021, but that the company repaired it on more current models, which clearly indicates that this is a KNOWN issue for prior models. This company has an obligation to protect its customers and conduct a full recall on prior models to correct this issue, in order to prevent serious injury or death of the public! 4wd overheating. Owned this Jeep for 8 years and had it in multiple (5x plus) times for service 4wd code. 2 different dealerships cannot fix the issue. Now they are telling me just drive it and not worry about it or trade it in. It smells hot and something burning. I have the life time max care warranty on it. The codes I get are the 4wd is unavailable overheated and service 4wd. They have replaced multiple parts and still not working. I will be just sitting idle and it comes on.

My Jeep has been returned to the Dealership I purchased it from now for the 3rd time to have the Rear Differential completely replaced. The first time, because the Rear Differential axle seal was leaking. The 2nd time, the rear differential had another axle seal leak. This is now my 3rd time where I have dropped off my Jeep because of a noise coming out of the Read Differential, and the Dealer states it needs to be replaced, with under 1 year from the previous replacement. My Jeep has been sitting in the Dealership since Oct. 17 and the dealer is saying that Stallantis has over 400 of these rear differentials on back order. On Friday November 14, will be 5 weeks and now I cannot get my Jeep back, because the Dealership is saying the manufacturer has no estimate for when a new Rear Differential will be available. This has been a major defect since I purchased the vehicle as well as other Jeep owners saying the same thing. Now my dealership cannot release my Jeep, due to the mechanical breakdown, and I may never get my Jeep back due to Stallantis not manufacturer the parts fast enough for dealers to make the necessary repairs. I need someone's help!

If I had been in high rate of speed road traffic, this sudden loss of forward motion could have been catastrophic. 2015 Jeep Cherokees is not functioning and I'm getting flashing parking brake light. There is water corrosion, which can cause the brake to activate unexpectedly. I did not have any spills in the cargo area of my vehicle. I believe it is from water coming into the wheel well. I took the car to the dealership and they claimed it would cost me $5000 to replace not only the Parking Brake module, but the whole connection to the body harness. I currently do not have a parking brake. I am aware there is a known Service Report for this issue.
