AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 1998 Acura 2.2CL, 1998-1999 Acura 2.3CL, 1998-1999 Acura 3.0CL, 2001 Acura 3.2CL and Acura MDX, 1998-2000 Honda Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Sedan, Odyssey and Acura 3.5RL, 1999-2000 Acura 3.2TL, 1996-2000 Civic Coupe, 1997-2000 CR-V, 1997-1998 EV Plus, and 1998-1999 Isuzu Oasis vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. AN IMPROPERLY ROUTED UNDER DASH WIRE HARNESS COULD BE DAMAGED BY CONTACT WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A BLOWN FUSE. IF THIS OCCURS, OPERATION OF A CRITICAL COMPONENT CAN BE LOST, INCLUDING WINDSHIELD WIPERS, HEADLIGHTS, TURN SIGNAL AND HAZARD LAMPS, TAIL LAMPS, THE ANTI-LOCKING FUNCTION OF THE BRAKES, AND BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM.

THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER INITIALLY STATED THAT THE BOLT ON THE INFLATOR WAS STRIPPED AND RECOMMENDED A NEW STEERING WHEEL. WE HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN CONCERNED ABOUT A POSSIBLE AIRBAG RECALL AND HAD BEEN ASSURED THAT OUR VEHICLE WASN'T AFFECTED, NOW HONDA HAS CHANGED THEIR STORY. WE HAVEN'T BEEN USING OUR CRV FOR FEAR OF A DEADLY ACCIDENT. WE ARE FRUSTRATED THAT PARTS FOR REPAIRING THIS WON'T BE AVAILABLE FOR NEARLY A YEAR. MOREOVER, THERE'S BEEN NO OFFER OF A LOANER CAR OR OTHER SUITABLE SHORT TERM REPLACEMENT VEHICLE. IT'S NOW ALMOST THE END OF JULY AND THERE IS NO NEW INFORMATION REGARDING WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO FIX THIS SITUATION. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON IMPACT. THE OTHER DRIVER IMMEDIATELY FLED THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL TO SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR THEIR INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS TREATED AT A HOSPITAL FOR A CONCUSSION, A BROKEN JAW, A BROKEN BACK, BROKEN SHOULDERS, A BROKEN NECK AND PAIN TO BOTH KNEES. THE CONTACT'S WIFE ALSO SUFFERED INJURIES TO HER SHOULDERS, NECK, BACK AND RIGHT KNEE. MY SON DRIVES THIS VEHICLE AND I BECAME VERY ALARMED. I PARKED THE VEHICLE AND WE HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING SINCE. I CALLED HONDA'S CUSTOMER SUPPORT & CAMPAIGN CENTER AT THE NUMBER ON THE RECALL LETTER ON 3-18-20 AT 11:18AM AND PROVIDED THE VIN. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER #10315713. I HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM THEM SINCE. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER, [XXX] ON 3-18-20 AT 11:22 AM AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO UNTIL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE AND THAT THEY KNEW PARTS WOULD NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR OVER ONE YEAR!! I CONTACTED "[XXX]" AT NHTSA ON 3-18-20 AT 12:08 AM MTN TIME AND SHE WAS UNHELPFUL AND UNINFORMED. I CALLED MY INSURANCE AGENT AT STATE FARM AND THEY ADVISED TO SUSPEND THE INSURANCE. I DON'T WANT ANYONE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED BUT THE HONDA DEALER, THE CORPORATE HONDA OFFICE AND NHTSA IS DOING NOTHING!! I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE I PAID $6000 FOR THAT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS?? SHOULD I CONTACT AN ATTORNEY?? THE IGNITION SWITCH TURNED OFF THE CRV WHILE DRIVING. IT WOULD START UP AGAIN IF MANUALLY TURING THE SWITCH TO RUN OR ON, OR AT AT STOP TURING IT TO START AFTER PUTTING THE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK/NEUTRAL, BUT BEFORE THIS THERE IS LITTLE CONTROL TO THE STEERING & BRAKES. IT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS AT INTERSECTIONS WHERE YOU NEED TWO HANDS TO STEER. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE MONTHS IVE HAD THE CRV. BUT TODAY, THE IGNITION SWITCH DOESNT SEEM TO WORK AT ALL.

THE CUP HOLDERS IN THE FRONT UNDER THE RADIO AND THE ONES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FRONT SEATS DO NOT HOLD EMPTY BOTTLES PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD EMPTY CUPS OR ALMOST EMPTY CUPS AND BOTTLES FALL AND GO TO MY FEET WHILE DRIVING TO THE POINT THAT IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT IF I HAD ANYONE IN FRONT OF ME. THE CUP HOLDERS ARE NOT DEEP ENOUGH AND ARE TOO WIDE TO KEEP ANYTHING IN THEM IN A TURN THINGS FALL OUT TO MY FEET. THOSE CUP HOLDERS ARE NOT GOOD AT ALL. I DO NOT HAVE A SAFE PLACE TO PUT MY DRINK IN THE CAR, THAT IS VERY INCONVENIENT AND A SAFETY HAZARD.
