FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Apr 25, 2022
On 4/12/22, we were towing our 32ft trailer with putt 2011 diesel GMC Sierra truck to Big Bear Lake which is in the San Bernardino Mountains in a two way winding highway. Upon making a somewhat sharp turn up a steep uphill, our accelerator went out. We had my mother in law, our two kids and dog in the vehicle at the time. We were able to get a speed of about 5-10mph to get a turn out and turn back around. We had no reception to call for help. The accelerator gave out shortly after but we were able to ride the decline to the bottom of the mountain and as soon as we were getting to the bottom, the engine turned off on us. Although it was still a two way highway, thankfully there was an emergency lane where we were able to park and where we were able to get very limited reception to call AAA (tow truck). There were vehicle speeding past us in high rates of speed. Because we needed a specialty tow truck given the towing of the truck/trailer, we knew it would take quite a while in the mountains for a driver to get to us. Temperatures at night in this area can get to 10-20 degrees. Five hours later at 11pm we were towed home. Upon towing the truck and trailer home, we were made aware of the reason the truck broke down through a diesel mechanic, which was CP4 fuel pump failure. Upon learning this and going online, we found out this is common for this truck with the CP4 fuel pump. We also found that other companies have made recalls, eg. Dodge but GMC/Chevy has not. This is obviously a safety issue that could have been catastrophic for myself, my kids and family and am wondering why there hasn’t already been a recall through GMC. Please let me know what our recourse is or if you have any questions.

SO THE HEATER IN THE DEF TANK IS BROKEN AND THE NOX READING IS WRONG OR HAS GONE OUT. THEN MY SPEED WAS REDUCED TO MAX 55 MPH. DEALER SAID IT WOULD BE $1500 TO FIX BUT AFTER READING FORUMS ON-LINE THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT IS ISSUES WITH THE DEF SYSTEM, FIXING IT, AND THEN STILL DISPLAYS ISSUE. AM I GOING TO GET THIS REPAIRED AND STILL HAVE AN ISSUE LIKE OTHERS?

MY VEHICLE IS UNDER A RECALL BUT WHEN WE CALLED THE GMC DEALERSHIP LAST YEAR THEY DENIED THAT THERE WAS REALLY A PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT GMC FELT LIKE THE AIRBAGS IN MY TRUCK WERE FINE AND I SHOULD IGNORE THE RECALL. I ASKED THEM FOR A REMEDY OR A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE SINCE I WAS NOT GOING TO IGNORE THE RECALL. THEY LAUGHED AND TOLD ME A REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE YET AND THEY WERE NOT PROVIDING ME WITH AN ALTERNATE VEHICLE WHILE THEY WAITED FOR ONE TO BE SENT DOWN FROM CORPORATE. IT HAS BEEN TWO YEARS SINCE THE RECALL AND I FEEL WE HAVE WAITED LONG ENOUGH.

THREE OE (3) GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES, LT265/60 R20 HAVE BECOME DEFECTIVE, ALL IN THE SAME FASHION WITH SIDEWALL PROBLEMS, TWO WITH BULGING, ONE WITH AN AT SPEED BLOWOUT AT THE SIDEWALL. FIRST ONE, 1/22/16 WHILE DRIVING BUT STOPPED DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND ANOTHER MOTORIST POINTED OUT THE BULGE. INSTALLED SPARE, AT DESTINATION PURCHASED AT FULL PRICE 2 BRAND NEW TIRES IN ORDER TO HAVE MATCHING TREAD ON ALL TIRES. DEALER ALLEGED THERE MUST HAVE BEEN DAMAGE, SO THERE WAS NO WEAR ADJUSTMENT. SECOND ONE NOTED WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY 2/15/17. CALLED GOODYEAR WHO REFERRED ME TO A LOCAL FACTORY STORE WHO PRO-RATED AN ADJUSTMENT AND I REC'D A NEW TIRE. THIRD ONE BLEW OUT AT TURNPIKE SPEED 8/16/17. NONE OF THESE TIRES WERE ANYWHERE NEAR THE END OF TREAD LIFE AT THE TIME OF THE PROBLEM. THIS VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN "OFF-ROAD" AND I DO NOT DRIVE AROUND HITTING OBJECTS WITH THE TIRES. I DO NOT WANT TO TURN OVER THE LATEST DEFECTIVE TIRE TO A DEALER UNTIL I HEAR FROM YOU IF AN INVESTIGATION IS IN ORDER; IT IS "EVIDENCE". I DID TAKE PHOTOS OF THE FIRST TWO TIRES AND WILL DO THE SAME WITH THE MOST RECENT ONE. THANK YOU.
