CERTAIN HONEYWELL FRAM RACING BRAND HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 25, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 14, 2007, AND SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR VEHICLES LIST ABOVE. THE AFFECTED FILTERS ARE MARKED WITH A DATE CODE A61451 THROUGH A72571 SEQUENTIALLY. THE DATE CODE AND PART NUMBER APPEAR ON THE FILTER HOUSING. FRAM RACING HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS NOT BEARING A DATE CODE IN THIS RANGE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE GASKET OF THE OIL FILTER BECOMES MORE PLIABLE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES.
Remedy: HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-890-2075.

CERTAIN REPLACEMENT FUEL FILTERS, FRAM BRAND NAME P/N G3727, WITH DATE CODES X52911 THROUGH X60801 SEQUENTIALLY OR X600141 AND A MEXICO COUNTRY OR ORIGIN MARKING ON THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 18, 2005, THROUGH MARCH 21, 2006, SOLD FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE AND ON CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES. (TO SEE THE SCHOOL BUS ENGINE SIZES, CLICK ON "DOCUMENT SEARCH" AND THEN "BUS APPLICATIONS"). THE CONNECTOR ON THE FUEL FILTER WAS NOT MANUFACTURED TO HONEYWELL'S SPECIFICATION. AS A RESULT, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAT CORRECTLY ON THE FUEL LINE.

2 YEARS AGO I HAD ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES REPLACED BECAUSE OF FAILURE DUE TO RUST AT A COST OF $1000.00 I BELIEVE THE CAUSE WAS POOR METAL IN THE BRAKE LINES AND THE WAY THE LINES ARE ATTACHED TO THE BODY & FRAME HELP TO CAUSE THE PROBLEM.

TRUCK WAS IN SHOP FOR UNRELATED MAINTENANCE. BRAKE LINE FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE MOVING TRUCK OUT OF SERVICE BAY. TRUCK IS CURRENTLY UNDRIVEABLE. MECHANIC INDICATED THAT THIS IS COMMON FAILURE AS LOWER QUALITY MATERIAL WAS USED IN THE BRAKE LINES. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ON WEB INDICATED THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. BRAKES FAILED AS BRAKE LINE CORROSION ALLOWED FLUID LEAK. THIS WAS FIRST OF MULTIPLE LINE FAILURES IN THE LAST THREE YEARS. THREE DIFFERENT FACTORY LINES FAILED THEN ONE TRANSMISSION LINE. THIS TRUCK IS NOT USED DURING WINTER AND WAS UNDER COATED MULTIPLE TIMES. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS LIMITED BRAKING. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SLOWED BY DOWN SHIFTING. 1999 GMC SIERRA K2500 4X4. AT JUST OVER 100K MILES THE ADVANCED RUST AND CORROSION ON MY STEEL BRAKE LINES IS VERY BAD. THESE ARE THE HARD GALVANIZED LINES THAT ARE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BENEATH THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR NEAR THE FRAME, AND THE HARD GALVANIZED LINES THAT RUN ALONG THE INSIDE OF THE FRAME RAIL ON THE DRIVER SIDE (LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE TRUCK) FROM FRONT TO REAR. THIS STARTED A FEW YEARS AGO AND HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. THE CORROSION IS IN THE FORM OF RUST THAT IS FLAKING OFF IN CHUNKS. WITH THE STEEL RUSTING AND FLAKING AWAY LIKE THIS, IT WILL COMPROMISE THE INTEGRITY OF THE BRAKE LINE, SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCING THE ABILITY FOR THE BRAKE LINES TO HOLD PRESSURE, AND AT SOME POINT MAY ULTIMATELY RESULT IN BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE OTHER GM VEHICLES WITH MORE MILES THAT ARE OLDER I'VE HAD SINCE NEW AND THE BRAKE LINES HAVE VERY LITTLE SIGNS OF RUST AND CORROSION. I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS AS I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES AND THIS IS THE FIRST GM VEHICLE THAT I'VE SEEN THIS HAPPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS COLD AND DRIVEN APPROX 1/2 MILE TO STOP LIGHT FROM HOME. I WAS LIGHTLY STEPPING ON THE BRAKE WAITING FOR A LIGHT TO TURN GREEN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN A BRIEF SURGE WHICH CAUSED ME TO HIT THE BRAKE HARDER AND THEN THE SURGE STOPPED. EMPLOYEE DRIVING 1999 GMC 2500 PICKUP TOWING A 2008 TOWMASTER TRAILER LOADED WITH A BOBCAT 325 MINI EXCAVATOR NORTHBOUND ON I-25 AT SAN FELIPE EXIT HEARD A POP, THINKING IT WAS A BLOWN TIRE, TRIED TO PULL OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, HIT A PASSING CAR, HIT A GUARDRAIL, CROSSED OVER THE HIGHWAY THROUGH ANOTHER GUARDRAIL, DOWN THE CONCRETE EMBANKMENT TO THE ROAD BELOW. ON THE PICKUP BOTH FRONT TIRES WERE BLOWN OUT AS A RESULT OF LANDING AT THE BOTTOM OF THE EMBANKMENT (DOT #K2W8YD4A, DOM ???? COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: VIETNAM). RIGHT REAR TIRE HELD AIR, BUT TREAD WAS PEELED OFF(DOT# 4TW8YD4A, DOM 0806 COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: CHINA). LEFT REAR TIRE (DOT# H2W8YD4A, DOM 2906, COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: KOREA) REMAINED INTACT. ALL TIRES ON THE PICKUP WERE KUHMO ROAD VENTURE AT - LT265/75R16. THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE OF THE TRAILER WAS ALSO BLOWN OUT. AS A RESULT OF THE ACCIDENT THE TRUCK, TRAILER, AND EQUIPMENT WERE ALL TOTALED OUT, ALTHOUGH THANKFULLY THE DRIVER WALKED AWAY WITH NECK AND BACK INJURIES. DRIVER AND PASSENGER OF OTHER CAR ALSO RECEIVED NECK AND BACK INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A GM DEALER, WHO NOTED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE PUMP WAS CONTINUOUSLY RUNNING. THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES WERE REPAIRED UNDER A RECALL, BUT THE PUMP WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE COST FOR A REPLACEMENT OF A BRAKE PUMP WAS $2,000 OR THE DEALER COULD PERFORM A CHEAPER PROCESS BY SIMPLY REMOVING ANTI LOCK BRAKE FUSE WHICH BYPASSED THE BRAKE PUMP. THE CONTACT OPTED FOR REMOVING THE FUSE DUE TO COST. THIS REMEDY WARRANTED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES AS NON WORKING. SINCE THIS REPAIR THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. *AK

DT: THE CONSUMER STATES THAT THEIR 1999 GMC C2500 LIGHT DUTY PICK UP WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. UPON FURTHER REVIEW BY GM THE VEHICLE WAS DISCOVERED TO NOT HAVE ANY AIR BAGS IN IT. THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW AND THE OWNERS WERE UNDER THE PRETENSE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH AIR BAGS. THE SPEED OF THE CRASH WAS AROUND 55 MPH. THE OWNER OF THE TRUCK HIT A TREE HEAD ON. THE DRIVER OF THE TRUCK DOES NOT REMEMBER WHAT CAUSED THE WRECK. THE DRIVER SUFFERED LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. HE HAD A BROKEN NECK, BROKEN LEFT SHOULDER AND A BROKEN HUMERUS IN HIS LEFT ARM ALONG WITH SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA. THE DRIVER DID HAVE ON HIS SEAT BELT AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THE POLICE REPORT DID NOT DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. THERE ARE LOTS OF PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE. THERE IS ALSO AN INSURANCE REPORT THAT COULD BE AVAILABLE. THE INSURANCE AGENT ALSO THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS AN AIR BAG IN THE TRUCK. GM SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE TRUCK. THE REPRESENTATIVE FROM GM SPENT AN HOUR LOOKING FOR THE AIR BAG AND COULD NOT FIND IT. THE TRUCK WAS PICKED UP OFF THE GROUND ON A FORK LIFT AND THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS LOOKING FOR THE AIR BAG CENSORS AND STILL COULD NOT FIND ANY. GM WAS ALSO UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THERE WERE AIR BAGS IN THE TRUCK. THE OWNERS HAVE A LETTER FROM GM STATING THAT THEY RETRIEVED DATA, PHOTOGRAPHS AND MEASUREMENTS FROM THE VEHICLE. AND THEY WERE GOING TO GET INFORMATION FROM THE DIAGNOSTIC AND SENSING MODULE. THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT A VEHICLE WEIGHING MORE THAN 8500 POUNDS DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE AIR BAGS, THE TRUCK MISSED THE WEIGHT LIMIT BY 100 POUNDS. *JB

PURCHASED NEW, 1999 GMC K2500 SUBURBAN, VIN [XXX], THE UNIT HAS 141K MILES. THIS VEHICLE WAS SPECIAL ORDERED AND CAME OFF THE LINE OUT OF SILO, MEXICO ASSEMBLY PLANT. WE JUST GOT UNDER THE WIRE TO PLACE THE ORDER. DEALERSHIP WAS AL DIETRICH DEALERSHIP, WATERFORD MICHIGAN, WHO IS NO LONGER IN BUSINESS. ON 11 JUNE 2005 AT DUSK I HAVE MY UTILITY TRAILER PARKED LOADING SOME MATERIAL. I ENGAGED MY HAZARD FLASHER AND NOTICED THAT I HAD TO JIGGLE THE HAZARD SWITCH TO GET THE FLASHER TO WORK. ON 18 JUNE 2005, WITH MY YOUNGEST SON, A MOTORIST PULLS ALONG SIDE AND INFORMS US AT A 4 WAY STOP THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS, EXCEPT FOR THE TOP BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING. I GO TO THE LOCAL AUTO PART STORE, OREILLY'S IN BELTON AND PURCHASED 4 BULBS TO CORRECT THE BLOWN BULBS. WHEN I REMOVED THE BULBS, I NOTICED THAT THE FILAMENTS ARE NOT BLOWN. I REPLACED THEM ANYWAY. THAT IS WHEN I DISCOVER THAT STOP LAMPS ARE NOT WORKING. TURN SIGNALS , BACKUP AND RUNNING LIGHTS TO INCLUDE THE TOP BRAKE LIGHTS ARE OPERATIONAL. TO MY SURPRISE, WHEN I PUSHED AND HELD IN THE HAZARD SWITCH, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKED. WHEN THE BUTTON IS RELEASED, THE BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK. FATHER DAY INSTEAD OF GOING TO CHURCH SERVICE, AS WE DO AS A FAMILY, I SPENT THE DAY IN 90 DEGREE TEMPERATURES. REMOVED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH. TO MY SURPRISE, WENT ON THE INTERNET AND DISCOVERED THAT GM MULTIFUNCTION/HAZARD SWITCH RECALL. WHEN I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE I ALSO PURCHASED THE COMPLETE SERVICE MANUAL SET FOR MY 99 SUBURBAN. NOW I AM GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET A REPLACEMENT AT NO COST UNDER FEDERAL SAFETY LAWS.
