CERTAIN FEDERAL-MOGUL NATIONAL AND CARQUEST AFTERMARKET HUB ASSEMBLIES, P/N 515058, SOLD FOR USE ON 2001-2006 GENERAL MOTORS 1500 AND 2500 4WD TRUCKS. ON THE SUBJECT HUB ASSEMBLIES, THE ABS SENSOR CORD DEPARTS FROM THE HUB ASSEMBLY AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. AS A RESULT, THERE IS A FIT ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE ROTOR DUST SHIELD INTERFERING WITH THE ABS SENSOR CORD. IF THE HUB ASSEMBLY IS INSTALLED DESPITE THIS INTERFERENCE, THE GAP BETWEEN THE ABS SENSOR AND THE TONE WHEEL MAY BE ALTERED. THIS MAY WEAKEN THE OUTPUT OF THE ABS SENSOR. DIMINISHED OUTPUT COULD RESULT IN AN UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS AND STOPPING DISTANCE COULD BE AFFECTED.
Remedy: FEDERAL-MOGUL WILL NOTIFY ITS OWNERS AND WILL EITHER CREDIT THE CUSTOMERS ACCOUNT OR REPLACE THE UNIT. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JUNE 2006. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FEDERAL-MOGUL CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-563-8507 EXT 3530.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT ALL EIGHT FUEL INJECTORS WERE PREVIOUSLY REPLACED APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS; HOWEVER, BUT THE FAILURE RECENTLY RECURRED. HAVING HEARD ABOUT MICHELIN RECALLS I CHECKED THE TIRES ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP. I HAVE MICHELIN LT245/75R16 120/116R XC LT4 TIRES WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES WEAR. TWO OF THEM ARE "CRUMBLING" OUT 1 1/2 INCH ABOVE THE RIM. YOU CAN SEE FIBERS IN THE HOLES. THERE ARE CRACKS EVERYWHERE ON ALL THE TIRES. THEY HAVE BEEN COVERED FROM THE SUN. GRANTED THE TIRES HAVE AGE BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN "CRUMBLING" BEFORE.

THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DISTRIBUTOR BRAKE BLOCK HAD EXCESSIVE RUST AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. KUHMO ROAD VENTURE AT TIRE 245/75R/16 TREAD SEPARATION. THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH TIRES UNDER 10,000 MILES FOR THIS BRAND AND SIZE TIRE. THE FIRST INCIDENT TORE UP THE SIDE OF MY PICKUP WHILE TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. WHEN THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED, I FELT A VIBRATION IN THE TRUCK AND PULLED INTO A ROADSIDE REST AREA. AFTER I STOPPED AND WAS ALMOST OUT OF THE TRUCK, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND THE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED RIPPING THE SIDE OF THE TIRE OUT. AGAIN, TOWING A 5TH WHEEL TRAILER. IN THE FIRST INCIDENT KUHMO ARGUED FOR THREE MONTHS THAT I HAD DRIVEN THE TIRE FLAT. THEY FINALLY AGREED TO REPLACE THE TIRE AND REPAIR MY TRUCK. THESE TIRES ARE UNSAFE FOR HIGHWAY USE.

I CONNECTED MY CAMPER TO THE TRUCK. PROCEEDED TOWARD THE STREET DRIVING ON THE DRIVEWAY. I APPLIED THE BRAKE AND FELT A THUMP AT MY FOOT THAT'S WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE. WE HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 90 MILES FROM OUR MAIN HOUSE TO OUR LAKE HOUSE ON FRIDAY NIGHT-BRAKES WERE FINE. SATURDAY MORNING WE BACKED THE SIERRA UP AND HOOKED UP THE BOAT TO THE HITCH. THE CONTACT WANTED TO PURCHASE A STAINLESS STEEL BRAKE LINE AND INSTALL IT ON THE VEHICLE BUT HE STATED THAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER. THE ENGINE DIED ON ME IN A PARKING LOT AND WOULDN'T RESTART FOR ABOUT 15-20 MINUTES. THE SECOND INCIDENCE WAS THE SAME. THE THIRD INCIDENT, IT STOPPED ON ME AS I WAS COMING OFF AN EXIT TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAD JUST REACHED 50 MPH WHEN IT CUT OUT. IT WOULD NOT RESTART FOR 15-20 MINUTES. THE NEXT AND FINAL EVENT BEFORE REACHING A RESOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM...THE TRUCK CUT OUT AS I WAS ON AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND BUSY SECTION OF HIGHWAY DOING 60 MPH. I THANK GOD IT WAS A STRAIGHT STRETCH OR SOMETHING FATAL COULD HAVE OCCURED. IN BETWEEN EACH OF THESE EVENTS, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE MECHANIC AND TRIED DIFFERENT OXYGEN SENSORS AND OTHER REPAIRS THAT I WAS TOLD WASN'T A PROBLEM BUT I HAD NO OTHER EXPLANATION FOR WHAT HAPPENED. THERE WERE NO CODES THROWN FOR THE MECHANIC TO GO BY. AFTER THE LAST EVENT ON THE HIGHWAY, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM I WOULD NOT EXCEPT THE TRUCK BACK UNTIL THEY KNEW WHAT IT WAS. AFTER MUCH ARGUING, THEY AGREED TO REPLACE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR UPON MY REQUEST. THEY SAID IT WAS NOT THROWING A CODE FOR THAT AND THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE IT WOULDN'T BREAK OFF DURING REPAIR AND RESULT IN AN EVEN COSTLIER REPAIR. I DIDN'T CARE AT THAT POINT AND TOLD THEM TO DO IT. I HAD READ MANY OTHER REPORTS ON MECHANIC SITES ABOUT THIS SENSOR BEING RECALLED ON SOME BUT NOT ALL GMC 2500 HD TRUCKS SO I INSISTED THE DEALER REPLACE MINE. MINE DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALLED VIN# SO IT WAS OUT OF POCKET FOR ME! IT FIXED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NOT HAD A PROBLEM SINCE AND IT'S BEEN 2 YEARS NOW. I AM STILL UPSET AT THE LACK OF AGREEMENT ABOUT EXTENDING THE RECALL ON THIS ISSUE TO OTHER VIN#'S. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC 2500 HD TRUCK EQUIPPED WITH BCT HI-RUN TIRES, TIRE SIZE 275/245/75/16/ (N/A), DOT NUMBER: UNKNOWN. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT MOVED THE VEHICLE FROM THE ROADWAY AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE WAS BLOWN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED FOUR TIRE BLOW OUTS WHEN THE SAME BRAND OF TIRE ON FOUR SEPARATE VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC, BUT THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED WITH A SPARE BY THE CONTACT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE FOR THE TIRE WAS 12,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS 239,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 242,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE WAS ABLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE BACK ON BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THAT THE FUEL LINES NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
