MOBILITYWORKS IS RECALLING 133 MY 2005-2006 FORD E250, MY 2000, 2004-2006 E350, MY 2000, 2005 E450, MY 2005-2006 GMC 2500, GMC 3500, AND MY 2006 DODGE 2500 VANS EQUIPPED WITH RICON PLATFORM STYLE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS. THESE LIFTS FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 403, "PLATFORM LIFT SYSTEMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES." THE ANTI-STOW INTERLOCK MAY NOT DETECT THE PRESENCE OF A WHEELCHAIR OR MOBILITY AID USER. THE PRESSURE SENSING SWITCH THAT DETECTS THE PRESENCE OF WEIGHT ON THE PLATFORM WAS NOT ADJUSTED TO THE NECESSARY SENSITIVITY LEVEL. THE LIFT COULD STOW EVEN THOUGH SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IS STILL ON THE LIFT.
Remedy: MOBILITYWORKS IS WORKING WITH RICON TO CORRECT THE WHEELCHAIR LIFTS FREE OF CHARGE (PLEASE SEE 07E097). OWNERS MAY CONTACT RICON AT 1-818-267-3000 OR MOBILITYWORKS AT 1-800-769-8267.

CERTAIN FEDERAL-MOGUL NATIONAL AND CARQUEST AFTERMARKET HUB ASSEMBLIES, P/N 515058, SOLD FOR USE ON 2001-2006 GENERAL MOTORS 1500 AND 2500 4WD TRUCKS. ON THE SUBJECT HUB ASSEMBLIES, THE ABS SENSOR CORD DEPARTS FROM THE HUB ASSEMBLY AT A 90 DEGREE ANGLE. AS A RESULT, THERE IS A FIT ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE ROTOR DUST SHIELD INTERFERING WITH THE ABS SENSOR CORD. IF THE HUB ASSEMBLY IS INSTALLED DESPITE THIS INTERFERENCE, THE GAP BETWEEN THE ABS SENSOR AND THE TONE WHEEL MAY BE ALTERED. THIS MAY WEAKEN THE OUTPUT OF THE ABS SENSOR. DIMINISHED OUTPUT COULD RESULT IN AN UNWANTED ABS ACTIVATION AT LOW SPEEDS AND STOPPING DISTANCE COULD BE AFFECTED.
Remedy: FEDERAL-MOGUL WILL NOTIFY ITS OWNERS AND WILL EITHER CREDIT THE CUSTOMERS ACCOUNT OR REPLACE THE UNIT. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JUNE 2006. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FEDERAL-MOGUL CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-563-8507 EXT 3530.

THE PIN LOCATED INSIDE THE PITMAN ARM CAN SHEAR OFF DUE TO A REVERSE BENDING FATIGUE CONDITION, RESULTING IN A TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL.

SLIGHT CLUNKING STARTED WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. FLUID ON GARAGE FLOOR. OFF TO AAMCO. FOUND TWO HOLES IN TRANSFERCASE. THE "4 STAR BUFFERING RING" ON SHAFT INSIDE POUNDED TWO HOLES IN CASING. JUST STEP ON GAS AND TORQUE POUNDS THE RING INTO THE CASING UNTIL HOLES ARE MADE. ALL FLUID POURS OUT. MOST PEOPLE WONT EVEN KNOW ITS HAPPENED UNTIL CASTASTROPHIC FAILURE. SEVERAL SEALS, CHAIN, TWO GEARS, 3 BOTTLES OF FLUID, "4 STAR BUFFER RING" AND A NEW CASING HALF WAS REQUIRED. $2654.00 TO REPAIR FOR A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. AAMCO POINTED OUT I DID NOTHING WRONG. ITS AN ENGINEERED FAILURE POINT BY GM. TODAY WHEN I PARKED MY GMC SIERRA 2500HD, I TURNED OFF THE KEY SWITCH AND I NOTICED MY BLOWER MOTOR WAS STILL RUNNING. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME I SMELT SOMETHING BURNING. I WENT OUT UNDERNEATH THE HOOD OF MY VEHICLE LOCATED THE FUSE BOX AND REMOVED THE 40 AMP BLOWER MOTOR FUSE AND THAT SHUT DOWN THE HEATER AND THE SMELL STARTING GOING AWAY. IT WAS 19 DEGREES HERE IN OKLAHOMA AT THE TIME OF INCIDENT. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND GOT SEVERAL HITS ABOUT GMC TRUCKS THAT EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE EXCEPT SOME OF THE VEHICLES BURNED COMPLETELY TO THE GROUND. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME SIGNALED TO TURN RIGHT LAST MINUTE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES, I ALSO APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IF I DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH FOLLOWING DISTANCE I WOULD HAVE CRASHED RIGHT IN TO THE CAR. I ONLY HAD ABOUT 1/2 INCH OF BRAKE PEDAL AND DROVE IN LOW GEAR VERY CAREFULLY THE REST OF THE SHORT DISTANCE TO WORK. WHEN I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK I SAW BRAKE FLUID POURING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINES BELOW THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AND THEY WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I REALIZED ALL MY BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTY ON A NINE YEAR OLD VEHICLE, I NEVER SAW ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. I HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED AND REPAIRED AT A LOCAL GARAGE THAT CHARGED ME $1,547.61 TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES AND DID A HORRIBLE JOB. I HAD CALLED THE GMC DEALER I DEALT WITH IN THE PAST AND THEY WERE INUNDATED WITH RECALL WORK AND HAD AT LEAST A 2 WEEK WAIT AND ANOTHER GM DEALER THAT GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE PROVIDED ME AND THEY WERE ALSO ALL BOOKED UP WITH RECALL WORK AND SO I WAS FORCED TO TRUST A LOCAL SHOP. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD GET PEOPLE KILLED, I ALWAYS HAVE MY WIFE AND KIDS IN THE TRUCK AND IT WAS A DEATH TRAP. IN TALKING TO GMC REPS IS SEEMS THEY HAVE NO INTENTION TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS PREMATURE AND ACCELERATED RUSTING CONDITION THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED ME OR SOMEONE ELSE THEIR LIFE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND IT BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER THE STEERING WHEEL. THE BATTERY INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. 1) THE DRIVER DOOR POWER WINDOWS,LOCKS,AND EXTENDED MIRROR BUTTONS QUIT WORKING,I CAN BE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND I CANT ROLL THE WINDOWS DOWN ,CANT ADJUST MY MIRROR AND TIME THAT I STOP TO CHECK THE FUZES THE DOOR CONTROLS START WORKING AGAIN. AFTER PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND PROCEEDING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY, THE ABS LIGHTS BEGAN FLASHING AND CHIMING ON THE DASH. I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED BRAKE FLUID DRIPPING UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK. I CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK AND FOUND THE LEFT REAR BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED THROUGH JUST ABOVE THE FUEL TANK. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HE STATED THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT FROM GM. HE SAID I NEEDED ALL BRAKE LINES REPLACED AND GM'S NEW PARTS HAD AN EXTRA COATING TO PREVENT CORROSION. IT COST ME $1100. THIS TYPE OF FAILURE SEEMS WAY TOO SOON FOR A TRUCK WITH 38,000 MILES. *TR
