AS I WAS TURNING A CORNER MY CAR QUIT RUNNING. FURTHER INVESTIGATION FOUND THAT THERE WAS NO POWER GETTING TO THE FUEL PUMP. THE INERTIA SWITCH HAD MELTED FROM A ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE SYSTEM. AFTER REMOVING THE FUEL PUMP/SENDING UNIT ASSY. FROM THE GAS TANK, I FOUND THE SHORT IN THE TANK. THE 12 VOLT POWER SUPPLY THAT RUNS FROM THE TANK WALL PLATE, TO THE FUEL PUMP, RUNS TO CLOSE TO THE SENDING UNIT MOUNTING PLATE NEAR THE FUEL PUMP. OVER TIME, THE STEEL MOUNTING PLATE HAD RUBBED THE SINGAL COAT OF INSULATION FROM THE POWER WIRE. THIS CAUSED A DIRECT SHORT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. AS A CAR MECHANIC FOR TEN YEARS BEFORE MOVING INTO AIRCRAFT MECHANICS, NO SIGNS WERE EVIDENT OF THE SENDING UNIT ASSY. EVER BEING REMOVED. *AK
