Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation.
Remedy: Toyota will notify the Toyota and Lexus owners. General Motors will notify the Pontiac Vibe owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, or replace the air bag assembly that includes an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 23, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371, Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag. The recall began on July 13, 2015. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Pontiac owners may call 1-800-762-2737. Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015, that they are recalling 2005-2007 Lexus SC, Toyota Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, and Pontiac Vibe, and 2005-2006 Toyota Tundra vehicles that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Florida, along the Gulf Coast, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, Saipan and American Samoa. On June 16, 2015 Toyota expanded the recall to cover an additional 769,055 vehicles, including certain model year 2002-2004 Lexus SC, Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla Matrix, Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe, and Toyota Tundra vehicles, as well the vehicles covered by the May 13, 2015 notification in the portions of Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas that were not previously included. The inflators in the front passenger air bags are susceptible to rupture in the event of a crash necessitating the deployment of the front passenger air bag.

The location of the collision sensors are positioned too low to allow consistent deployment of the airbags in the event of a collision with newer generation pickup trucks. The bumpers on the pickup trucks are too high, so a rear end collision results in the Toyota Corolla passing underneath the truck, and the air bag sensors do not sense the collision. The collision is only stopped when the windshield of the Toyota makes contact with the bumper, or the front of car impacts the axle of the pickup trucks.

My son drove the car to the store less than 2 miles from the house and the airbag light came on and stayed while he was driving. He looked up the light in the owners manual and it said take vehicle to the Toyota dealer immediately! I know multiple cars we have owned in the past have had airbag recalls. I can not remember if this one has ever been recalled and repaired in the past. I attached the photos of the light and the manual.

Complaint Against Ben Nielsen Skyline Automotive – Faulty Repairs & Lack of Response I am filing a complaint regarding incomplete and faulty repairs performed on my household’s 2005 Toyota Corolla CE at Ben Nielsen Skyline Automotive on November 22, 2024 (Invoice #1 attached) and January 3, 2025 (Invoice #2 attached). During my first visit, the mechanic identified an oil leak, added dye to locate the source, and instructed me to return after 100 miles for further repairs. I followed these instructions and returned on January 3, 2025, when the shop also adjusted the tie rod and installed new rear brakes. At the time, I trusted that the work had been completed to a professional standard and that my vehicle was safe to drive. However, during a visit to Shirlington Shell on February 22, 2025, for an unrelated inspection (Invoice #3 attached), their mechanic raised serious concerns about the quality of repairs done by Ben Nielsen Skyline Automotive: - The tie rod adjustment was not completed properly, which the second mechanic stated made the car potentially unsafe to drive (video evidence available upon request). - The fluid leak was not fully resolved. - The rear brakes installed by Ben Nielsen Skyline Automotive are making noise, suggesting they were not installed correctly. These issues indicate that the repairs I paid for were either incomplete or improperly performed, leading to safety concerns and additional costs to diagnose and correct the problems. After discovering these faults, I made multiple attempts to contact Ben Nielsen Skyline Automotive via phone and email to request a resolution, including a full reimbursement for the tie rod adjustment, fluid leak repair, and rear brake installation. Unfortunately, my email messages and calls have gone unanswered, leaving me no choice but to escalate this matter.

Odometer on 2005 Corolla S stopped working at 299,999 miles. Will not roll over to 300,000. This has been a topic of discussion on many Toyota vehicle online forums and has been an ongoing issue for many similar makes/years/models. There were no prior warnings/messages related to the odometer not working any longer when it reaches any certain number. Several mechanics I have spoken to, including Toyota service advisors, have told me they are aware of this issue. No inspections have been done. Why would Toyota place an odometer in any of their vehicles that will stop working after reaching any specific number? They have prided themselves as cars that will go many miles. Why would they not disclose this to any Toyota owner? Why should the owner be liable for repairs on this issue when we did not install the part? Why has no recall been issued over this matter?

My 2005 Toyota Corolla airbags have been recalled AT LEAST TWICE already(?) and I have been to the dealer at least twice, for airbag recall repairs. Guess what? The red dashboard airbag light came on AGAIN! I took the 2005 Corolla to the Toyota dealer and the dealer announced that I have to pay for the latest airbag warning ⛔️ dashboard light problem. Since the airbag is an obvious “problem area” for Toyota, and I never have used the airbags…I feel this latest “airbag problem” should be fixed, by Toyota for free. Toyotas infamous and repeated “airbag problem’” has reappeared… yet again! I don’t have the exact date and time the airbag warning light reappeared (again) and there was never an accident where the airbags were deployed, or a certain speed at which the warning light suddenly comes on. The airbag warning light is on 99% of the time. I also don’t have the mileage at which the airbag warning light reappeared (again) but there is currently approximately 146,000 miles on the 2005 car. Since I have NEVER USED the 2005 Corollas airbag and Toyota has a systematic, widespread, & REPEATEDLY fixed problem with this airbag, I wonder why should I have to pay for airbag repairs?

I had the airbag repaired during the recall. However, the airbag warning light remains on. In addition, the speedometer has stopped at 299,999 although the trip meter still works. The paint is peeling and the roof is rusting which is classic for toyota.

I had the airbag repaired during the recall. However, the airbag warning light remains on. In addition, the speedometer has stopped at 299,999 although the trip meter still works. The paint is peeling and the roof is rusting which is classic for toyota.

I took my vehicle to the shop on 3/31/21 as I received a recall notice for the airbags. I am currently trying to pass inspection for registration renewal but have several warning lights; one of them being the airbag system. Obviously the problem has not been fixed.

I purchased my vehicle in May 2020. Since that time, there has been a noise that occurs when I apply the brakes. In March of 2021 I took my car to American tire shop where they charged me $1900 to supposedly fix an issue with the rear suspension 'arm,' but also stated it required more work and suggested it was a safety issue. The noise is still there and I fear potential safety issues but can not afford thousands of dollars in 'supposed' repairs.

I submitted my 2005 Toyota Corolla to Priority Toyota in Springfield, VA where they replaced my airbag on 9/05/2019 per the initial recall notice. The airbag light subsequently came back on after installation. When I returned it to the same dealer, they told me it was not related to the recall and that I’d have to pay to get it fixed. I took my vehicle to another certified mechanic for a second opinion. That mechanic determined it is a defect in the recall replacement airbag mechanism installed or the installation itself and advises me to take it back to the recall servicer dealer. Priority of Springfield has refused to honor the recall or acknowledge the defective equipment or improper installation on the 9/05/19 recall and remedy the defective recall equipment or service warranty they performed. The defective airbag replacement installed by the recall dealer Priority of Springfield is defective, inoperable and must be replaced or installation corrected OR be provided new equipment and installation at no charge per the 11/15/19 Safety Recall E04 - For Areas of High Absolute Humidity - UPDATE . I was told by NHTSA when I called to request my vehicle be added to the subsequent recall list for replacement again. It is not in the best interest of consumer safety that owners should be forced to bear the cost of replacing defective recall replacement airbags or Re installation of recall replacement airbags improperly or negligently installed by authorized Toyota dealers. I RECEIVED MULTIPLE RECALL LETTERS FROM TOYOTA AND CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALER AVONDALE TOYOTA IN AVONDALE ARIZONA ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. THEY SAID THEY HAD TO ORDER PARTS AND WOULD NOTIFY ME WHEN THEY RECEIVED THEM. I CHECKED BACK SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE NEXT MONTH AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. NHTSA RECALL NO. 19V-741: I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA REGARDING THIS RECALL. I'M ATTACHING COPIES OF THE LETTER, ON WHICH I WROTE NOTES OF MY CONVERSATIONS WITH TOYOTA AND WITH THE DEALERSHIP. I HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW SOME INFORMATION I BELIEVE IS RELEVANT TO MY COMPLAINT. HALL TOYOTA OF ELIZABETH CITY IS THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP TO ME, AND IS ALMOST 2 HOURS DRIVE AWAY (ABOUT 90 MILES). THE RECALL NOTICE FROM TOYOTA STATES, "IF YOU ARE UNCOMFORTABLE DRIVING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER WHO WILL ARRANGE FOR VEHICLE PICK UP." THE DEALERSHIP ASSIGNED ME AN ADVISOR, RUSS, WHO SAID I NEEDED TO CALL TOYOTA TO HAVE THEM OPEN A CASE AND GIVE ME A CASE NUMBER. RUSS SAID TOYOTA WOULD THEN CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WOULD WORK OUT ARRANGEMENTS TO PICK UP MY VEHICLE. I CALLED TOYOTA AND SPOKE WITH SOMEONE NAMED RAFAEL, WHO GAVE ME A CASE NUMBER (2002102338), BUT SAID THE DEALERSHIP WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TOWING CHARGE. HE SAID TOYOTA WAS NOT GOING TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP, AND THAT I NEEDED TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP TO ARRANGE TOWING. I CALLED RUSS AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHO SAID HIS SUPERVISOR WAS TALKING TO TOYOTA AND HE WOULD CALL ME LATER. THE NEXT DAY, AFTER NOT HEARING BACK, I CALLED RUSS, WHO SAID HIS SUPERVISOR HAD NOT YET HEARD BACK FROM TOYOTA, AND THE SUPERVISOR WOULD CALL ME WHEN HE HAD INFORMATION FROM TOYOTA. LATER THAT DAY RUSS CALLED ME TO SAY TOYOTA AGREED TO COVER $120 OF THE TOWING CHARGE, WHICH RUSS SAID WOULD RUN AROUND $500 TO $550. THE DEALERSHIP WOULD NOT PAY THE DIFFERENCE, SO I WOULD NEED TO PAY THE REST MYSELF. THIS SEEMS CONTRARY TO WHAT IS STATED IN TOYOTA'S LETTER. RAFAEL AT TOYOTA STATED THEY ABSOLUTELY WERE NOT RECOMMENDING I DRIVE 2 HOURS TO THE DEALERSHIP. I SEEM TO BE LEFT WITH NO GOOD OPTION. THEY SAID THAT THEY DID REPLACE THE AIR BAG, BUT IT WOULD NOT WORK IF I WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, INDICATING THAT THE WIRE RELATED TO IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THE COST OF DOING THE WIRE REPLACEMENT IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. IT WOULD COST ABOUT $700.00 TO HAVE THE WIRE REPLACED. I TOOK IT IN AND HAD THAT REPAIR DONE, BUT THE WARNING LIGHT DID NOT GO OFF. THE DEALER SAID IT NEEDS A NEW SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY, AT A COST OF NEARLY $500. THE DEALER SAID THE AIRBAG MAY NOT INFLATE DURING A CRASH. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THIS REPAIR, I DISCOVERED THAT OTHER TOYOTAS ARE UNDER RECALL FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND AT RANDOM TIMES WHILE I AM DRIVING AND IN MOTION, I'LL PUSH IN THE CLUTCH TO BRAKE OR COAST, THE RPMS GO DOWN UNTIL THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF, AND THE STEERING WHEEL GOES HARD. THE HEADLIGHTS AND DASH LIGHTS STILL WORK, IN FACT ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS, LIKE THE CHECK ENGINE AND MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHTS, ACTUALLY COME ON (JUST LIKE WHEN YOU'RE KEY IGNITION IS IN THE "ON" POSITION BUT YOU HAVEN'T STARTED THE ENGINE YET). THE CAR STARTS RIGHT BACK UP WHEN I TURN THE IGNITION OR POP THE CLUTCH WHILE IN GEAR. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ABOUT ONCE EVERY WEEK EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR OVER 4 YEARS AGO. WITHIN THE PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS AT RANDOM TIMES WHEN TRYING TO START MY CAR MY CAR (STATIONARY), THE ENGINE WILL TURN OVER BUT WON'T START ON FIRST TRY. ON SECOND TRY I WILL TURN THE IGNITION AND PUMP THE GAS PEDAL AND AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT WILL START UP AND RUN PERFECTLY FINE. I'VE READ ABOUT THE RECALL OF THE ECM FOR MY MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR, BUT WHEN I SEARCH MY VIN IT COMES BACK WITH NO CURRENT RECALLS. WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE (PURCHASED FROM PRIVATE PARTY IN AUGUST OF 2015), I LEARNED OF THE AIRBAG RECALL AND TOOK IN AND GOT IT FIXED, BUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO, ABOUT 2.5 YEARS AFTER TAKING IT IN FOR THE RECALL, MY SRS LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOT ILLUMINATED AND EVERYTHING ELSE IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, BUT I AM A LITTLE WORRIED ABOUT SAFETY ESPECIALLY NOW THAT THE SRS LIGHT HAS COME ON. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN SURPRISED BY THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE TRYING TO MAKE A TURN, WHICH VERY EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, AND NOW IF I DO GET IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE AIRBAG SYSTEM FAILS, THEN I COULD BE INJURED EVEN MORE SEVERELY OR DIE. I'M A COLLEGE STUDENT ON A VERY TIGHT BUDGET, OTHERWISE I WOULD'VE JUST SEEN A MECHANIC BY NOW. I THOUGHT I'D TRY FILING A COMPLAINT FIRST.

MY ENGINE CONTROL MODULE STOPPED WORKING. MAINTENANCE CONTROL LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON, EVEN WHEN NO REPAIRS WERE NEEDED.
