This 10 speed transmission 10R80 is very well known to fail. This should be investigated and recalled by ford with a fix. My vehicle is part of an active engine recall related to defective piston oil rings. When I brought my car to the dealership for the recall inspection, I informed them and Kia Corporate that my car had been stalling and shutting off while driving for months. I have text message documentation of thes
... e incidents. This safety concern was ignored. The dealership performed only a basic visual inspection (removing coils and air filter, checking battery, alternator, starter, and attempting to start the engine) and refused to perform a full recall diagnostic or engine tear-down. They claimed the engine was “hydrolocked” and stated that water in the engine “voids any recall” and that outside influence is not covered. I requested that Kia Corporate dispatch a Field Service Engineer (FSE) for an independent inspection, but corporate told me that I cannot request an FSE directly and that only the dealership can request it. Since the dealership refuses, corporate will not act. Safety Concern: Stalling and shutting off while driving is a serious safety hazard that can lead to accidents. The vehicle is part of a federally mandated engine recall, but the dealership and corporate have refused to perform the proper recall inspection. The refusal to inspect the engine or acknowledge stalling incidents leaves me and other potential drivers at risk of unsafe operation. Requested Action: Investigate the dealership’s refusal to perform the recall inspection. Ensure Kia performs a full recall diagnostic, including internal inspection of piston oil rings and related engine components. Require corporate or a Field Service Engineer to review the vehicle given the dealership’s refusal. Address the stalling incidents as a potential safety defect related to the recall.Read more

There is a known defect with the GM Ecotec engines, specifically the lack of retaining clip for the internal PCV valve, allowing it to become dislodged and drawn into the engine. Without the PCV valve, tremendous engine pressure is produced, leading to broken gaskets causing vacuum leaks, misfiring,
... severe vibration, and loss of power when accelerating (which can be a safety issue). Dorman produced a video outlining the issue and has re-engineered the part to prevent the issue from occurring: "Why GM 1.4L Ecotec engine intake manifold and valve covers repairs are often related" [XXX] This appears to be a fairly wide-spread issue with the GM Ecotec engines, and GM should perform a recall to replace these parts, and reimburse those who had to replace themselves. This also causes error codes requiring spark plugs to be replaced (they get fouled by oil) and the MAF Sensor. In troubleshooting, I also had to replace the distributor power bar and air intake hose. I have recipts for all parts, but file upload is not working on this site. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)Read more

While driving, the vehicle displayed "Low Oil Pressure, Stop Engine" and we experienced a loss in power. Luckily, we were near our home at the time. We were traveling at approximately 65mph on a busy highway and the vehicle lurched as if it were going into a power-limited mode. We were able to get o
... ff of the roadway safely, but we were lucky in doing so. After dodging traffic and getting to a safe location, the vehicle was towed to a local Ford dealership. Upon inspection, they advised that the oil pump/belt/belt tensioner had gone out. This had caused a number of other issues within the engine (timing, bearings, etc) and the entire engine would have to be replaced in reference to SSM 49918. Researching online, there appears to be a large number of drivers experiencing the same issue with a failed oil pump that leads to a failed engine, some of which have seized completely while traveling. Luckily, ours did not seize completely, but the vehicle did drop drastically in power, causing other vehicles to swerve to miss us as we had an uncontrollable loss in speed. The vehicle is currently at the Ford dealership still as I call around to get additional quotes for repair. Ford estimates the cost of repair to be approximately $8,700. Ford customer service also refused any financial assistance due to our "CLV Score" not being "high enough", even though this is a known issue with this engine specifically. When I asked for a copy of the repair order for the quoted repairs from the Ford dealership, they provided me with a repair order with no diagnosis, quote, estimate, or any other information regarding the repairs needed. All information has been by phone with no written documentation on the issue from the service department.Read more
