STEERING:COLUMN
LAND ROVER IS RECALLING 37,142 MY 2005-2006 LR3 AND RANGE ROVER SPORT VEHICLES. RELATIVE MOTION BETWEEN THE STEERING WHEEL HUB AND/OR THE STEERING COLUMN COWL WITH THE CLOCKSPRING, WHICH INCLUDES THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUITRY, COULD RESULT IN FRACTURING OF THE AIR BAG WIRING CONNECTION. IF AN AIR BAG WIRE FRACTURES, THE SRS WARNING LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. THE SRS WARNING LIGHT INDICATES TO THE DRIVER THAT THERE IS A CONCERN WITH THE SRS SYSTEM IN THE VEHICLE AND THAT IMMEDIATE REPAIR IS NECESSARY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSERT 1MM SPACERS BETWEEN THE LOWER LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE COLUMN SWITCH MOUNTING POINT AND THE COLUMN LOCK TO IMPROVE THE ALIGNMENT OF THE COLUMN SWITCH. TWO FOAM PADS WILL ALSO BE FITTED TO THE TOP OF THE STEERING COLUMN SWITCH GEAR TO PROVIDE ASSURED CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE COWL AND THE CLOCKSPRING FACE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 30, 2008. On your database for car safety my old 2006 Land Rover Range Rover Sport supercharged isn't on there for a recall so when I took it to the dealer he said there are no recalls well I submitted the number for the 2006 Land Rover Range Rover excluding my VIN number this time and using the National Database that you guys provided and found out that it has seven recalls and the guy at Range Rover dealership would not take care of it for me I am having a problem because they cannot be identified on your website but when you put in the code for the recall it comes up what am I to do?

The driver air bag has been replaced twice on my vehicle. The airbag light is back on. The steering column spring is bad also. I have paid to repair the airbag twice. This airbag should be recalled. I think it is unsafe for me to drive it and the airbag will not deploy if needed in a car accident. Please help me by recalling the airbag so Land Rover can replace the airbag. I bought the vehicle used but I should not have to sacrifice my safety. It seems the aftermarket does not have the airbag available any longer.

@ 65MPH, I HEARD A MUFFLED 'POP' COMING FROM BENEATH AND IN FRONT, AND MY 2006 RANGE ROVER SPORT SUPERCHARGED IMMEDIATELY LURCHED. A GEAR WHINE PROCEEDED, WHICH WOULD REACT IN PITCH TO MY RATE OF SPEED. FEATHERING THE THROTTLE IMPACTED THE NOISE, AND I SUSPECTED MY FRONT DIFFERENTIAL, OR A FRONT WHEEL BEARING. AS IT WAS EXTREMELY COLD OUTSIDE, AND EXTREMELY LATE, I BABIED THE SPORT THE REMAINING 10 MILES HOME, WHERE I RAISED THE TRUCK AND CONFIRMED A GREAT DEAL OF HEAVY VISCOSITY FLUID HAD COATED THE BOTTOM OF MY VEHICLE, EMANATING FROM THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL, ON THE LEFT (US DRIVER'S) SIDE. IT CAUSED QUITE A BIT OF SMOKE, HAVING PAINTED ITSELF ON TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED THAT LAND ROVER HAS ISSUED A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE, SAYING THAT ON EARLY MODELS, THE INSIDE OF THE DIFFERENTIALS WERE COATED WITH A PAINT THAT DELAMINATES, MIXING WITH THE GEAR FLUID AND CONTAMINATING IT, CAUSING OVERHEATING AND BEARING/SEAL FAILURE. I AM OUT OF WARRANTY (THE TRUCK IS NOW @ 50K MILES), AND HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH LAND ROVER TO PETITION TO GET THIS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, I BEGAN TO HEAR A LOUD SQUEAL FROM BENEATH MY VEHICLE, BUT NO SERVICE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH. BECAUSE SOMETHING WAS CLEARLY WRONG, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT MY FRONT DIFFERENTIAL HAD FAILED AFTER ONLY 30,000 MILES. LAND ROVER IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER NO RECALL WAS EVER ISSUED ONLY A "SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE" TO DEALERS. I SUBSEQUENTLY LEARNED THAT I WAS FORTUNATE AS SOME USERS HAVE HAD THE DIFFERENTIAL LOCK UP BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A SKIDDING HALT. DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND MY CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE REAR SUSPENSION DROPPED TO THE GROUND WITH NO WARNING OR NO APPARENT REASON. THEN I FELT MY LEFT TIRE GO FLAT. ONCE CHP AND THE TOW TRUCK GOT ME OFF THE FREEWAY. I NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE REAR SUSPENSION WAS ON THE GROUND. THE SUSPENSION FAILURE CAUSED BOTH OF MY REAR TIRES TO BUCKLE INWARD CAUSING THE LEFT ONE TO BLOW AND THE RIGHT ON GAUGED OUT ON THE INSIDE. LAND ROVER DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSTIC REPORT SHOWED SUSPENSION FAILURE AND THEY JUST PUSHED A BUTTON TO RAISE IT BACK UP. THEY FIXED ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND EXPECTED ME TO PAY FOR TWO NEW TIRES AND WANTED TO SEND ME BACK ON THE ROAD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NO HELP EITHER. I STILL PAY THIS CAR NOTE AND TO DATE HAVE NEVER DRIVEN THIS DEATH TRAP AGAIN. IM A AFRAID IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WITHOUT ANY CAUSE OR WARNING. *TR

ON DEC1, 2007 I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 RANGE ROVER SPORT SUPERCHARGED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY IN TORONTO CANADA. ALL OF A SUDDEN THEIR WAS A MAJOR SQUEALING NOISE, THEN THE FRONT TIRES LOCKED UP. IT WAS A MAJOR FAILURE AND COULD HAVE BEEN A HUGE ACCIDENT. I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I WAS IN A DANGEROUS PLACE. THE POLICE STOPPED, GOT A TOW TRUCK RIGHT AWAY. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THORNHILL LAND ROVER IN TORONTO. TURNS OUT IT WAS A MAJOR DIFFERENTIAL FAILURE. THE SPLINES ALL SHEERED OFF ON THE INPUT DRIVE TUBE. LAND ROVER WAS GREAT, THEY FIXED THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. I AM WRITING THIS BECAUSE I FEEL MY KIDS AND I WERE VERY LUCKY NOT TO BE IN A HUGE ACCIDENT. I HAVE LEARNED THAT MY ISSUE IS NOT UNCOMMON. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE ENTIRE FRONT END WAS DAMAGED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY DUE TO THE ANGLE OF THE CRASH. REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT WITH ONLY 26,000 MILES ON CAR, A 2006 RANGE ROVER SPORT. I WAS TRAVELING 65 MPH ON THE GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED REGULARLY AND THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING. I HAD TO TAKE IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALER ONCE TIRE WAS REPAIRED, AS AAA ROAD SERVICE FELT IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE HOME BECAUSE THE OTHER REAR TIRE LOOKED JUST AS BAD. 1) THERE WERE NO SIGNS OR EVENTS LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE. 2) AT 65 MPH THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CAME APART, LOCKING UP THE FRONT TIRES AND PUTTING THE VEHICLE INTO AN UNCONTROLLABLE SKID. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALLY DISABLED AND WE HAD A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING IT OFF THE HIGHWAY. THIS ALMOST CAUSED US AN ACCIDENT AND WE WERE ALMOST REAR ENDED TWICE. SOMEONE COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED! 3)LAND ROVER NORTH SCOTTSDALE REPLACED FRONT DIFFERENTIAL, FRONT DRIVE SHAFT BENT AND REPLACED DRIVE SHAFT, FRONT DIFF MOUNT BENT & STRAIGHTENED MOUNT.
