My 2019 Honda Odyssey has a recurring and dangerous hesitation-to-accelerate defect that began within a few weeks of purchase and has continued for approximately one year, occurring roughly once every 5 times I drive the vehicle. The failure occurs when accelerating from a stop or slow speed, most
... critically when crossing traffic — for example, turning left across an oncoming lane or pulling out into a road with an approaching vehicle. When I press the accelerator pedal, the vehicle fails to respond for approximately 2-3 seconds. The pedal feels unresponsive during this delay. The transmission then suddenly engages and the vehicle accelerates abruptly and rapidly. This has created several genuinely dangerous situations. On multiple occasions, while attempting to cross traffic or complete a left turn, the vehicle did not move as expected while another vehicle was approaching, leaving me exposed in the roadway during the delay before the sudden acceleration occurred. These were not near-miss "in my head" moments — an approaching vehicle was close enough that the delay put me at direct risk of a collision. I brought this to my Honda dealer for inspection. The dealer was unable to reproduce the issue during their test drive and found no diagnostic trouble codes. The vehicle was returned to me with no repair performed. I have researched this issue and found it to be widely reported among other 2018-2020 Honda Odyssey owners, with symptoms matching mine almost exactly — hesitation from a stop followed by sudden, uncontrolled acceleration, particularly when crossing traffic at intersections. I am also aware this transmission (9-speed, ZF-sourced) is the subject of a class action lawsuit (Browning, et al. v. American Honda Motor Co.) alleging a defective transmission programming/design issue causing this exact symptom pattern. This is an active and ongoing safety hazard: the vehicle is unpredictable during exactly the maneuvers (left turns, crossing traffic, merging) wRead more

This is a recurring issue reported by other Honda owners and is currently the subject of a proposed class action lawsuit, Jones et al. v. American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Case No. [XXX]. The lawsuit alleges a defective front camera system affecting 2018–2025 Honda vehicles, including the Odyssey. I believe this constitutes a safety defect because the failure can occur unexpectedly and simultaneously disables multiple driver-assistance and collision-avoidance safety systems. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and require Honda to issue a safety recall and provide a free repair. For about 3-4 years now we have had issues with either the accelerator and/or possibly the transmission. We are not exactly sure which because our dealer claims they can never recreate the issue which is hard to believe since the issue happens to us most times the car is driven. The complaint that w

What makes it particularly frightening is when it happens and the car is exposed to other perpendicular traffic that may not have to stop. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem occur or accompany the issue in question. The vehicle has only been looked at by our Honda Dealership.Read more

All of a sudden for no reason, error messages starting showing up on the dashboard. Such as: blind spot info system problem, lane keeping assist problem, transmission system problem, and others. The car runs fine. I took it to my local shop and they put a new battery in. At first the lights went out
... but then they came back. So I took it to the Honda dealership. They ran diagnostics and tell me the multipurpose camera needs to be replaced. At a cost of $1,996.00. I asked if the camera can just be taken out, but have been told that is not an option. Obviously many of the security features are tied to this device. We are taking an out of state trip this weekend to a family wedding so must get this fixed this week. I’m not comfortable driving the car that far in this condition. There were absolutely no problems with the car beforehand. It happened two days ago on Sat 8/29/26. We were returning from a day trip about 70 miles from home. When these error messages started popping up, the car was running fine and continued to do so.Read more

Safety Complaint – 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite Front Camera Failure I own a 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite with approximately 60,000 miles. The front windshield camera used by the Honda Sensing system failed. When the camera failed, the vehicle displayed approximately 11 warning messages/errors involving
... multiple safety-related systems, including the Brake System, VSA, EPS, Electric Parking Brake, Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, and Honda Sensing features such as ACC, LKAS, and CMBS. This was concerning because one camera failure caused multiple safety systems to become unavailable or display warning messages. The vehicle’s driver-assistance and safety functions were significantly affected. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealer, and the dealer diagnosed the front Honda Sensing camera as defective and replaced it. The total cost was approximately $2,600, including the camera, parts, labor, and calibration. I believe this is an unusually expensive failure for a critical safety component, especially on a vehicle with only approximately 60,000 miles. The front camera is not a normal wear item and is essential to several Honda safety and driver-assistance systems. I am also concerned that similar Honda owners have reported failures involving Honda Sensing cameras. I would like NHTSA to investigate whether there is a recurring or widespread defect involving the front Honda Sensing camera on Honda Odyssey vehicles, particularly model years 2018–2020. I respectfully request that NHTSA review complaints and repair records related to this issue and determine whether further investigation or a safety recall is warranted. I am submitting this complaint because I believe owners should not have to pay approximately $2,600 to repair a potentially recurring defect in a critical safety component.Read more

... I paid a significant extra amount. While the vehicle was still under factory warranty, I reported this exact problem during my first and second service visits at Honda Canyon. On both occasions, the service advisor stated they "could not replicate the problem. I specifically asked: "What happens if this gets worse after warranty expires?" Your employee told me verbally that since the issue was documented as in the system, Honda would take care of it without charge. On XXX they did a software update (Invoice attached). After that, the problem got worse. Current situation: The problem has now gotten much worse - the screen is unusable most of the time, creating a safety risk when backing up without a camera. On XXX, I met with Service Manager Mark Wiseman at Honda Canyon. I provided printed photos of the different error messages shown on the screen. I left the vehicle for 10 days. No loaner was provided. Mr. [XXX] told me upon pickup that his technicians drove the vehicle "several times" and were able to see the messages but could not get the diagnostic code they needed. He stated he believes the issue is a device in the rear of the van. However, when I compared the mileage, the van was driven only 0.6 miles in 10 days, contradicting the statement that it was driven several times. Most concerning, Honda Canyon now claims their system shows no record that I complained about this problem while the vehicle was under warranty, despite two prior complaints. This is a pre-existing defect, reported under warranty, and is related to the known infotainment / MOST bus issues on 2018-2019 Odyssey models. The loss of the rearview camera is also a federal safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACRead more
