AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 1998 Acura 2.2CL, 1998-1999 Acura 2.3CL, 1998-1999 Acura 3.0CL, 2001 Acura 3.2CL and Acura MDX, 1998-2000 Honda Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Sedan, Odyssey and Acura 3.5RL, 1999-2000 Acura 3.2TL, 1996-2000 Civic Coupe, 1997-2000 CR-V, 1997-1998 EV Plus, and 1998-1999 Isuzu Oasis vehicles. These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138 or Isuzu customer service at 1-800-255-6727.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES AND MINI VANS, THE IGNITION SWITCH MAY WEAR EXCESSIVELY AND PREVENT PROPER INTERLOCK OPERATION, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO TURN THE IGNITION KEY TO THE "OFF" POSITION AND REMOVE THE KEY WITHOUT SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION TO "PARK."
Remedy: DEALERS WILL PERFORM AN INSPECTION PROCEDURE THAT DETERMINES THE AMOUNT OF CYLINDER BODY WEAR. IF SIGNIFICANT WEAR IS INDICATED, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE CYLINDER BODY, COLLAR, AND LATCH PLATE. IF NO SIGNS OF WEAR ARE INDICATED, DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LATCH PLATE WITH A REDESIGNED PART. Remedy: DEALERS WILL DRILL TWO ADDITIONAL DRAIN HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE RESONATOR.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the ignition switch was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 119,617.

THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITH THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG RUPTURING AND SPRAYING METAL PELLETS. THE CONTACT'S SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND WAS INJURED. THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS CHEST WAS MANGLED, CUT AND BLEEDING. THE DRIVER DID NOT GO TO THE HOSPITAL. THE CONTACT'S SON THEN STOPPED. DRIVER SIDE AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR UNLATCHED WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. I GOT A EMERGENCY TONE TELLING ME SOMETHING WAS WRONG, BUT NO INDICATION ON THE DASH. I FOUND A COUPLE RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND STOPPED BY THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER (PIAZZA), BUT THEY SAID THE VIN HAS NO RECALLS AND THE RECALL IS TOO OLD. I JUST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE A MONTH AGO. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE KNOWN BY HONDA AND EVEN IF IT IS HAPPENING ONLY NOW, THE DEALER SHOULD REPAIR AT NO COST TO ME.

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER TREAD WAS SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE. THE CONTACT CALLED ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND THEY REPLACED THE FAILED TIRE WITH THE SPARE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE A REPLACEMENT TIRE WAS EXCHANGED FOR THE SPARE TIRE; HOWEVER, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 212,729 AND THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,600.

WILL RE-START AFTER A FEW TRIES, TYPICALLY; FAILED TRIES INCLUDE ENGINE STARTING WHILE KEY HELD IN START POSITION BUT DYING IMMEDIATELY WHEN RETURNING KEY TO "RUN" POSITION. WILL STAY RUNNING IF KEY IS HELD BETWEEN "START" AND "RUN" LOCATION. WHEN THIS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING, WAS ABLE TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL WHILE COASTING AND RESTART THE ENGINE, HOLDING KEY NEAR START, TO GET ENOUGH RUNTIME TO GET THE CAR TO A SAFE PLACE OFF THE ROAD. WHEN IT DOES THIS ON THE INTERSTATE TRAVELING AT 70 MPH WITH NO WARNING, THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS FOR THE PERSON BEHIND ME. WHEN IT STOPS RUNNING AND I LOSE POWER STEERING, BRAKES AND COASTING TRYING TO RESTART WHILE IN NEUTRAL PRAYING I DON'T GET HIT FROM BEHIND AS I NAVIGATE DECELERATING CUTTING ACROSS TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER. THIS INFORMATION WAS NEVER DISCLOSED TO US THROUGHOUT THE SALE, AND WE ONLY FOUND OUT WHEN WE TRIED TO HAVE A SECOND KEY MADE AND THE HONDA DEALER SAID THAT THE VIN NUMBER DIDN'T EXIST IN THEIR SYSTEM. HONDA REFUSES TO DO ANY RECALLS THAT HAVE BEEN ISSUED FOR THIS VEHICLE IN THE USA OR CANADA.
