SKF IS RECALLING 2,805 HUB UNITS, PART NO. BR930361, SOLD AS A SERVICE PART FOR 1997-2004 DODGE DAKOTA VEHICLES AND 1999-2003 DODGE DURANGO VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2-WHEEL DRIVE & REAR AXLE ABS. DUE TO A SPECIFICATION ERROR, THE ROTOR PILOT FOR THE HUB UNIT MAY BE TOO LONG. THIS RESULTS IN THE WHEEL TO NOT BE SEATED FULLY AGAINST THE HUB FLANGE FACE DURING MOUNTING.
Remedy: SKF WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE HUB UNITS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 5, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SKF VSM NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-644-8999.

ALL KITS WERE MANUFACTURED FROM APRIL 20, 1999, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 23, 2004. THESE ASSEMBLIES WERE MANUFACTURED AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR CERTAIN DODGE PICKUP TRUCKS AND SUVS. The contact stated that the vehicle unexpectedly shifted out of park(P). After several attempts, the gear shift lever was shifted to park(P) and remained in park(P). The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

An independent mechanic was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was most likely related to a defective rod bearing. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 217,000.

IN THE PAST YEAR MY ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM HAS GONE HAYWIRE. FIRST MY PASSENGERS ALL LOST THEIR ABILITY TO USE WINDOW CONTROLS, ONLY THE DRIVER HAS CONTROL, BUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE IT WILL WORK, PRETTY RANDOM. THEN MY LEFT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. NOT THE BULB, THE ENTIRE HEADLAMP STOPPED WORKING, AND IF I SWITCH TO MY HIGH BEAMS THE RIGHT ONE WON'T WORK. AND NOW MY READ PASSENGER BREAK LIGHT WON'T COME ON. THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE LOCKS UP. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED FOR DAKOTAS AND DURANGOS FOR MULTIPLE YEARS. WHY HAVE YOU NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND MADE THEM FIX THIS? GOOGLE IT AND YOU SEETHAT THIS IS ANN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR THE LAST 23 YEAR MODELS. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THIS PROBLEM, WHILE YOU SIT ON YOUR HANDS? DO YOU TAKE MONEY FROM THE AUTO MAKERS TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY? THE REAREND (HOUSING, DIFFERENTIAL, BACKING PLATES, SHOES, DRUMS, BRKE HARDWARE AND PROPORTIONING VALVE HAVE ALL BEEN REPLCED AND THE SHOES STILL LOCKUP. YOU HAVE TO BACKUP AND HIT THE BRAKES HARD, SOMETIMES SEVERAL TIMES, BEFORE IT "POPS" AND RELEASES. THE "POP IS A SURE SIGN THAT THE DESIGN IS FLAWED, CAUSING THE SHOES TO NOT RESEAT PROPERLY WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND YOU COME TO A FULL STOP. PLEASE DON'T TRY TO SAY YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT, WHEN IT IS GOOGLED BY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AND KNOW ONE KNOWS WHAT ELSE TO DO. EVEN A FOOL WOULD KNOW THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW. I CONTACTED NHTSA AND THEY PUT ME THROUGH TO DODGE WHO SPOKE WITH ME ABOUT THERE ONLY BEING ONE OPEN RECALL ON IT AND I TOLD HER ABOUT THE BALL JOINT AND SHE TOLD ME THEY WOULD COVER THE REPAIR AND TOW AND SENT A TOW TRUCK AND TOWED IT TO MOTOR VILLAGE BUT DID NOT TELL THEM THAT THEY WOULD BE COVERING THE BALL JOINT WORK SO THEY TOLD ME TO HAVE DODGE CONTACT THEM IN THE MORNING. WHEN I DID CONTACT DODGE, THE FIRST REP COULDN'T GET THROUGH AND SO SHE OPENED A CASE. I THEN CALLED MOTOR VILLAGE TO GET THE SERVICE ADMIN'S PHONE NUMBER TO GIVE TO DODGE AND WHEN I CONTACTED DODGE THE 2ND TIME, I WAS INFORMED THAT NOW THEY WOULD NOT BE COVERING IT AND THAT THEY ARE SORRY FOR THE MISUNDERSTANDING. INTAKE OR EXHAUST VALVE FELL OUT OF # 2 CYLINDER .FAULTY VALVE SEATS ACCORDING TO THE ENGINE COMPANY, THE ORIGINAL CHRYSLER DESIGN PRESSES THE VALVE SEATS INTO THE CYLINDER HEADS. THE PROBLEM RESULTS WHEN THE POWDERED METAL THE VALVE SEATS ARE MADE OF EXPANDS, CAUSING IT TO DROP INTO CONTACT WITH THE VALVE AND PISTONS, WHICH LEADS TO CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. I WORKED FOR A TIRE SHOP IN WAL-MART AND ON 08/09/15 A 2001 DODGE DURANGO CAME IN FOR TIRES. THE VEHICLE PLACARD CALLED FOR 225/75/15 EXTRA LOAD TIRES AND MY MANAGEMENT APPROVED FOR US TO PUT A STANDARD LOAD 235/75/15 TIRE (BRAND IS DEXTERO MADE BY GITI, I DIDN'T SELECT IT ON THE TIRE SELECTION DUE TO IT WASN'T LISTED) ON THE VEHICLE. IT WAS DIRECTLY AGAINST COMPANY POLICY AND UNSAFE TO PUT AN IMPROPER TIRE ON THAT VEHICLE. THIS IS THE THIRD TIRE THAT THEY PUT ON THIS VEHICLE. I WASN'T INVOLVED IN THE OTHER TWO BUT THIS LAST ONE ON SUNDAY THEY WANTED ME TO INSTALL SAID TIRE. I REFUSED TO DO KNOWING THAT IT WAS AGAINST OUR POLICY AND I DID NOT WANT TO PUT THE CUSTOMER IN AN UNSAFE POSITION. THEY FORCED ANOTHER TECHNICIAN TO DO THE WORK THEN PROCEEDED TO TERMINATE ME THE NEXT DAY ON 08/10/15. THE CUSTOMER IS IN CURRENT POSSESSION OF THE VEHICLE THAT HAS IMPROPER TIRES AGAINST WHAT THE VEHICLE REQUIRED FROM THE MANUFACTURER.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 DODGE DURANGO. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SHOOK. WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED IN EITHER DIRECTION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT WHEELS. THE FAILURE RECURRED CONTINUOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT BALL JOINTS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 04V596000 (SUSPENSION). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 195,000.

CAR IDLES FAST WHEN IN PARK. RPM NEEDLES ALSO REACTS. WHEN DRIVING CAR APPEARS AS IF TRANSMISSION ISN'T WORKING. UPON ACCELERATION THE CAR APPEARS AS IF IT'S ABOUT TO STOP. WHEN IT DOES ACCELERATE IT REACTS VERY SLUGGISH.. THOUGHT TRANNY WAS BAD, BUT WAS INFORMED TRANNY. TOOK IN FOR A TUNE-UP, WAS TOLD ONLY SPARK PLUGS MAY NEED REPLACED. DID ONLINE RESEARCH TO DISCOVER SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING SAME TROUBLE. ON-LINE FEEDBACK SUGGESTED POSSIBLE TPS PROBLEM OR NEEDED TO REPLACE IDLE SPEED CONTROL MODULE. MY HUSBAND AND I ARE BOTH ON FIXED INCOMES AND DON'T HAVE MONEY TO PAY FOR "IT COULD BE". WE NEED A DEFINITE ANSWER TO OUR TROUBLE SO WE CAN PROPERLY REPAIR IT.
