My 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has a recurring pattern of excessive oil consumption, smoke from the exhaust, repeated check engine light events, P0420 catalyst-efficiency faults, and repeated catalytic-converter-related repairs. At approximately 75,000 miles, the vehicle shut down on the freeway. At approximately 121,000 miles, the first catalytic converter failed. Chevrolet of Wesley Chapel documented P0420 and catalyst failure in November 2025, and GM service history reflects catalytic-converter replacements at 131,468 miles and approximately 141,082 miles. The vehicle also underwent major injector-related repair in early 2026. At 141,620 miles, Chevrolet of Wesley Chapel started an oil consumption test and stated in writing that oil consumption can lead to repeat failed converters and false oxygen sensor readings. Despite substantial repairs, the problem pattern continued. I am reporting this as a possible safety-related defect affecting engine operation, emissions-system failure, and drivability, and I am asking NHTSA to review whether this indicates a broader safety-related defect.

The contact's wife owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50-60 MPH, several unknown warning lights illuminated. The driver pulled over to the side of the road. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that unknown engine valves had collapsed, and there was possible camshaft damage. The contact was advised that further diagnostic tests were required. The dealer informed the contact that a recall should be issued for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was referred to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.

Driving down I495 in Mass when engine stopped with no warning or prior symptoms. My wife and 4 children (including 2 friends of our kids) were in the car. Luckily we were able to safely pull to the shoulder after coasting through a construction zone. If we hadn’t made it to a safe piece of shoulder chances are high that another vehicle would have hit our vehicle and hurt and killed us. These 6.2 engines are a serious safety hazard and I only hope my new engine proves to be reliable. Car was towed to dealer who diagnosed it as a seized motor. Car is a 2022 Chevy Tahoe with the problematic 6.2 engine. Engine had passed Chevrolet’s Pico test as per the 6.2 recall about 7,000 miles before it seized. Vehicle and engine dealer maintained with all required changes/maintenance. Engine seized/failed with no warning.

The vehicle shifted itself into neutral and shut off while driving. It happened twice in three days. The first time I was pulling into the driveway so I was able to put it in park and restart the car safely. The second time I was in the middle of traffic in Tampa and it shifted into neutral and shut off in the middle of the road. Luckily no cars hit me but again I had to apply the break , restart the car and put it back in drive. This was very scary and I had my kids with me. Earlier in the day I had been driving on 75 and if it had happened then it could have been a bad wreck. It shows there are no current recalls on my vehicle. No warning lights or messages appeared. Vehicle was purchased less than 30 days ago. I will contact the dealership to verify there are no open recalls just in case but again when I checked I found none.

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the contact became aware that the driver's side rearview mirror was pointing upwards or downwards, reducing the driver's ability to see the roadway. The driver's side rearview mirror had been making unintended movements while starting the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 33,000.

The vehicle has service driver assistance system warning. The seat vibration is not working and I believe there are issues with the sensor and or harness. There have been recalls on previous years of this vehicle for the same thing. There have been a wave of these lately, according to the dealership working on the vehicle. Parts availability is currently low because of this resulting in longer repair times. This is a key safety feature of the vehicle and must be repaired quickly. Unsuspecting users may expect warnings before collisions that may not happen.

On two occasions my car shut down after hard braking while approaching stopped traffic on a freeway. The Chevy dealer has not been able to locate a cause. In both cases I was in the travel lanes when the vehicle shut down and fortunately I was not struck from the rear. It took me time to recognize that the car was dead, place it into Park, then recrank it.
AIR BAGS Dec 31, 2025
Vehicle continues to experience flashing air bag light and service self-restraint system warning. Brought in twice in 2025 for self-restraint system but dealer refuses to cover under warranty. On December 18, 2025, experienced complete power and electrical failure while in transit on a turning lane. The vehicle was unable to start, or open any windows, and the transmission would not shift back into park or neutral while obstructing traffic near an active railroad. Vehicle battery was replaced and was able to safely put vehicle into gear. Vehicle battery replacement allowed for normal driving; however, from that date on the transmission started shifting harder and jerkier. On December 31, 2025, vehicle was being driven on the freeway to then experience difficult shifting and reduced power. Subsequently, the drive indicator began flashing red and a service transmission indication appeared. There has been at least three instances, since vehicle purchased, where sudden loss of power and control of the vehicle in motion has occured.

The ONSTAR system only lasted 5 months from purchase of the vehicle. I was told that GM had none in stock, so the dealership placed a order to have a new one installed under warranty. I was to receive a call when it became available, but received no calls. My warranty expired in August and the dealership wants me to pay $1000 to get this replaced, when it was a warranted part that I waited for, for 2 1/2 years. My auto is not safe now as many components do not work, and I drive 45 min to work and then back in Montana. If I break down on the deserted highway there will be no way to get help! Please help!
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Dec 7, 2025
I'm submitting this complaint regarding an ongoing electrical defect on my 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle has experienced repeated sudden battery drain & no-start events, occurring approximately once per week. These failures happen without warning, sometimes after the vehicle is parked for as little as 6 hrs. All dealer updates & software campaigns were completed. Despite this, the vehicle continued to suffer no-start events. After further troubleshooting, we removed fuse F35RA (which powers only the hands-free liftgate module). Once this fuse was removed, the issue immediately stopped — confirming that the parasitic draw originates from the liftgate module, consistent with GM Technical Service Bulletin 24-NA-039. This indicates a known electrical defect. This problem has caused multiple safety concerns: The vehicle has left my family stranded late at night. My husband works in Chicago & relies on this vehicle. A sudden no-start or complete electrical failure in that environment is dangerous. We were unable to transport our children to scheduled activities due to the vehicle being completely dead. Repeated deep discharges are damaging the battery we purchased only months ago. A family vehicle shouldn't unpredictably become inoperative. This is not normal wear — it's a safety-critical electrical defect that could strand owners in unsafe conditions, especially in winter climates. GM hasn't issued a recall for this issue despite issuing a TSB documenting the defective behavior. The frequency & severity of electrical failure suggest this should be investigated as a potential recall. I'm requesting NHTSA review this matter due to the safety implications & the repeated nature of the failures. Incidents: No-start after 6 hours parked at a friend’s home Multiple weekly no-start events before fuse removal Occurred before & after software updates were performed Location: Incidents occurred both at home & away from home. Thank you for reviewing this complaint.

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to express my absolute shock, extreme frustration, and profound distress regarding the catastrophic and recurring failures of the BRAND NEW $86,626.50 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe RST we purchased from Community Chevrolet (200 W Olive Ave, Burbank, CA 91502). We did not purchase a used, low-budget vehicle; we invested a life-altering sum of EIGHTY-SIX THOUSAND DOLLARS in what we expected to be a safe, reliable family SUV. Instead, we have received a death trap that the dealership refuses to fix permanently. This vehicle is fundamentally unsafe to operate. We have brought it to your dealership four (4) times for the same critical safety issues, and each time, we receive the same insulting explanation: a "software update" or "recalibration." These are not fixes; they are negligent bandaids designed to clear error codes long enough for us to drive off the lot. We are experiencing terrifying, random SYSTEM FAILURES while driving: "Service ESC" warning "Forward Collision System Unavailable" "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE 62MPH TOP SPEED" Let me be unequivocally clear: the braking system has failed twice while my wife and three young children were inside the vehicle, nearly resulting in fatal collisions on the freeway and city streets. This is not an inconvenience; this is a life-threatening defect that you have failed to remedy. The negligence displayed by returning this vehicle to us in an unsafe condition is staggering. The financial and personal toll is immense and completely unacceptable: We have paid for tow trucks three times. We have missed work, leading to a formal warning for my wife's employment. We have incurred costs for rental vehicles and arranging essential transportation for medical appointments and school runs. For $86,000, I expect a vehicle that adheres to basic safety guidelines, not one that endangers my family and others on the road. The vehicle had approximately 56,000 miles when these critical issues became severe, yet it is

The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated and the message "Reduced Acceleration - Drive Safety Mode - Drive with Care" was displayed. The vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 45 MPH and failed to accelerate properly. Additionally, the brake lights failed to illuminate, and the engine fan was abnormally loud while driving. The contact was able to drive to the destination and turn off the vehicle. After restarting the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to O'Reilly Auto Parts, where DTC: P1098 for the coolant control valve (CCV) assembly was retrieved. The contact stated that a burning odor was outside the vehicle after the vehicle was turned off. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, but no diagnostic trouble codes were retrieved since the code was cleared by O'Reilly Auto Parts. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: N252508341 (Engine); however, the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The contact was advised to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS Nov 23, 2025
The check engine light came on on my Chevy Tahoe, November 2023. The system started to fail it would say for collision not able service ESC system. I would bring it into the shop. They would hook it up to the computer and they would say oh nothing wrong we just reset it. Then it started to shut down and it would say proceed with caution, low acceleration, no front and collision service ESC and I would have. Luckily I was in a city so I took it to the shop. They gave me a print off. Said there was no technician cleared it. I was able to make it home and I made an appointment. They put it on the computer. they said oh nothing‘s wrong. Everything‘s fine then it did it again and I was going through the mountains. I noticed that my car smelled of gas and that the gas gauge was just sucking fuel and I knew this was a problem.. they finally found out what was going on, but I feel the damage had already been done. The part that got replaced was over $1000. I had to pay out-of-pocket for it. Now my vehicle’s engine is shot.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Nov 21, 2025
The vehicles ability to accelerate was limited. Several system service warnings came on along with the check engine light.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Nov 20, 2025
During a normal acceleration from an on-Ramp onto a major interstate a Check Engine Light (CEL) came on with warnings of safety features no longer being active. The vehicle begin vibrating abnormally and the pedal was not very responsive. I took the next exit and stopped at an auto parts store to have the engine code checked. Cylinder #2 misfired due to an injector issue. The vehicle was confirmed to have this issue at a Chevrolet dealership. The car was a CPO through FORD and was covered. I owned the vehicle for 14 days. This unit has the L87 Motor, and had already undergone a motor replacement under the recall warranty. The injectors apparently were not replaced, only the O-Ring. Unlike many manufacturers GM has removed Fuel Injectors from their PowerTrain warranty. A motor with under 5,000 miles was not covered since the body and bolt-ons were original with 45,000 miles. GM has a very recent history of injector recalls and issues. These injectors should undergo the same scrutiny as previous GM injectors.

Wipers failed during heavy rain, was unable to see while driving on an Interstate. I was able to navigate to the shoulder of the highway but was very scary being on an interstate highway in heavy traffic. Dealership repair occurred on 8/14/25. No warnings of any kind prior to the failures.

The fuel filler neck for the diesel has a plastic neck extension made of cheap plastic and it broke making it a hazard to even fill the vehicle up and diesel fuel is spilled, not secured, and fumes could cause a fire hazard because the piece is faulty. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Aug 25, 2025
I along with many owners have experienced the widespread OnStar/telematics module failures in the current generation Tahoe and GM vehicles, which cause onboard system outages like navigation, safety alerts, city emergency services, cellular connectivity, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, and even instrument cluster functions sometimes going offline. The part is often back-ordered with no ETA, while GM denied warranty coverage causing the owner to pay for the replacement part and all labor.
SEATS Aug 12, 2025
The sliding center console/armrest in my 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe moves too easily and does not remain securely locked in place when fully extended forward. Even light pressure, such as when a passenger or driver rests an elbow, can cause it to shift suddenly. This can startle the driver and cause a momentary loss of focus, creating a safety hazard while the vehicle is in motion. When the console is fully extended forward, it should lock in position. In my vehicle, it often fails to stay locked, allowing unintended movement in each direction. This happens during normal driving conditions and can be triggered accidentally by an occupant’s elbow or arm. The sudden movement is distracting, especially at highway speeds, and could contribute to an unsafe driving situation. GM issued TSB PIE0677B in April 2022 describing this exact condition (“Power Floor Console Armrest will not lock in place and/or console lid slides back and forth freely”), indicating they are aware of the defect. However, there has been no recall. Given the potential for distraction and loss of control, this should be addressed as a safety recall.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING Aug 5, 2025
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that while driving 60 MPH, the vehicle briefly lost motive power but quickly returned to normal functionality. Later, upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle immediately shut off and could to be restarted. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the engine after observing metal shavings in the oil pan. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000. The VIN was unavailable.
