CERTAIN HONEYWELL FRAM RACING BRAND HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS THAT WERE MANUFACTURED FROM MAY 25, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 14, 2007, AND SOLD FOR USE AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT FOR VEHICLES LIST ABOVE. THE AFFECTED FILTERS ARE MARKED WITH A DATE CODE A61451 THROUGH A72571 SEQUENTIALLY. THE DATE CODE AND PART NUMBER APPEAR ON THE FILTER HOUSING. FRAM RACING HP4 AND HP8 OIL FILTERS NOT BEARING A DATE CODE IN THIS RANGE ARE NOT AFFECTED BY THIS RECALL. THE GASKET OF THE OIL FILTER BECOMES MORE PLIABLE UNDER HIGH TEMPERATURES AND PRESSURES.
Remedy: HONEYWELL WILL REPLACE THE AFFECTED OIL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN DURING NOVEMBER 2007. OWNERS CAN CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE TOLL-FREE AT 1-800-890-2075.

WITHIN A YEAR AND A HALF, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT SEEMED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS NOT BEING COOLED FOR SOME REASON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT JUST BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, HE COULD SMELL BURNING TRANSMISSION FLUID EACH TIME. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AGAIN WITH ANOTHER REBUILT TRANSMISSION. WITHIN NINE YEARS, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED A TOTAL OF FIVE TIMES EVERY YEAR AND A HALF. THE CONTACT HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT AT THE COST OF $1,700. THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. BE ADVISED EARLIER YEAR MODELS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, AND REPAIR TO THOSE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. I DRIVE A 1995 CHEVY TAHOE AND ALMOST EVERY TIME I BREAK THE ABS ENGAGES AT ABOUT 10 MPH, EXTENDING MY FINAL STOP. I HAVE READ THAT THE NHTS IS INVESTIGATING THIS "FEATURE" ON 1999-2002 CHEVY TRUCKS. FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD FROM OTHER PEOPLE AND EXPERIENCED MYSELF, I THINK THIS DEFECT IS VERY COMMON IN A MUCH BROADER MANUFACTURING TIME PERIOD.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. HITTING THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE ENGINE FROM REVVING. LIFTING UP ON ACCLERATOR PEDAL WOULD NOT SLOW VEHICLE. HAD TO TURN ENGINE OFF AND RESTART, THIS ALLOWED THE VECHICLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. DRIVER'S SEAT FAILURE ON A 1995 CHEVROLET TAHOE. THE DESIGN OF THE SEAT PLACES THE FRONT LEFT SEAT FASTENER ON A THIN PIECE OF SHEET METAL RATHER THAN ON THE RE-ENFORCED CORNER OF THE SEAT FRAME. IT APPEARS TO BE SOME KIND OF DESIGN ERROR. THE THIN PIECE OF SHEET METAL SPLIT APART, ALLOWING THE FASTENER TO COME FREE, AND THE SEAT THEN ROCKED BACK, ALMOST TOUCHING THE REAR SEAT BEHIND IT; THE DRIVER WAS LEFT LOOKING UP AT A 60 DEGREE ANGLE AT THE INSIDE ROOF OF THE VEHICLE, AND HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL FOR SUPPORT. THIS FAILURE OCCURRED IN THE DRIVEWAY AS THE DRIVER WAS BACKING UP. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD MY WIFE AND TWO CHILDREN BEEN IN THE CAR AND IN TRAFFIC WHEN THIS OCCURRED. GM SHOULD BE FORCED TO FIX THIS, AS IT IS CLEARLY A SAFETY HAZARD TO THE OCCUPANTS OF THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS TO OTHER VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. IN MY CASE, A CALL TO THE LOCAL DEALER GENERATED A "NEVER HEARD OF THAT" RESPONSE; I ULTIMATELY DISASSEMBLED THE SEAT AND HAD MY LOCAL WELDING SHOP STITCH IN A 1/8 INCH PIECE OF STEEL ACROSS THE ENTIRE FRONT OF THE SEAT FRAME STRUCTURE SO THAT THE RE-ENFORCED CORNERS ARE CONNECTED BY MORE THAN THE FLIMSY PIECE OF SHEET STEEL (THIS IS WHAT GM SHOULD HAVE DONE WITH THE ORIGINAL DESIGN OF THIS SEAT). *NLM

BOLT CONNECTING DRIVERS SEAT TO POWER ADJUSTABLE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY TORE THROUGH THE SHEET METAL ANCHOR PLATE ON THE SEAT CAUSING THE SEAT TO TIP BACKWARDS ABRUPTLY. MY FATHER OWNS AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND IS AWARE OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON OTHER CHEVROLET TRUCKS AND SUV'S. I CONTACTED GM'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER TO INQUIRE IF A RECALL OR SERVICE BULLETIN HAD BEEN ISSUED TO ADDRESS THIS APPARENTLY COMMON PROBLEM. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED SUDDENLY, THE INSIDE JOINT OF THE ROTOR CRACKED MAKING IT HARD TO STOP. THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT JOINT WAS CORRODED LEADING TO THE CRACK AND THAT THE OTHER ROTOR WAS ALSO CORRODED, AND ABOUT TO BREAK. *NLM

I HAD A 1995 CHEVROLET PICK UP WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, WHILE BACKING UP, THE DRIVER SEAT BOTTOM BROKE AWAY FROM WHERE IT ATTACHES TO THE SEAT TRACK. I ONLY WEIGH 160 LBS., SO IT ISN'T A WEIGHT OR ABUSE ISSUE. I FEEL CHEVROLET SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS THE SECOND TIME AROUND. WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WERE IN A TRAFFIC SITUATION?. THIS REPORT REGARDS A CHEVROLET TAHOE 4 DOOR TRUCK WHICH I PURCHASED NEW. DURING THE PAST 16 MONTHS BOTH INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES ( THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT DOORS) HAVE SNAPPED OFF RENDERING THAT DOOR INOPERABLE WHEN ATTEMPTING TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT SINCE THE POSSIBLITY EXISTS THAT THESE DOOR HANDLES COULD FAIL AT ANY TIME IN AN EMERGENCY. I HAVE BEEN REQUIRED TO REPLACE THESE DOOR HANDLES AT MY EXPENSE AND I WAS INFORMED BY THE CHEVROLET DEALER ( HUSTEDT CHEVROLET OF FLORAL PARK, N.Y.) THAT THE DOOR HANDLE FAILURE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES. *AK

HORN WOULD SOUND WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS VIBRATED (EXAMPLE: DOOR IS SHUT, HOOD POPPED OPEN, ADJUSTMENT OF STEERING COLUMN). HAD THIS PROBLEM 2 TIME PREVIOUSLY, A GM AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP LOOK AT SITUATION AND COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM WITHOUT GOING INTO A DETAIL DIAGNOSTIC. PULLING THE FUSE FOR THE HORN WOULD NOT STOP THE HORN FOR SOUNDING. FINALLY HAD TO PULL THE HORN RELAY LOCATED IN THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD TO STOP HORN FROM SOUNDING. FINALLY HAD A DETAILED DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED AND THE ONLY THING THAT THE DEALERSHIP COULD FIND WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG. SUPPOSEDLY THE AIRBAG EXPANDS WHEN IT THE AREA AROUND IT HEATS UP, WHICH IN TURN APPLIES PRESSURE ON THE HORN RING, ERGO THE HORN GOES OFF EVEN WHEN THE FUSE WAS REMOVED. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM DURING THEIR 2 HOURS OF DIAGNOTICS. RECOMMENDED SOULTION REPLACE AIRBAG / HORN RING $638.00 (PARTS ONLY). SUPPOSEDLY NEW AIRBAG HAS A NEW DESIGN TO PREVENT THIS FROM OCCURRING AGAIN.
