Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS. OWNERS OF THE PASSENGER CARS INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO RETURN THEIR VEHICLES TO THEIR DEALERS TO HAVE THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH DISCONNECTED AS AN INTERIM REPAIR. AS SOON AS REPAIR PARTS ARE AVAILABLE (EXPECTED OCTOBER 2007), OWNERS WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO RETURN TO THE DEALERS FOR INSTALLATION OF A FUSED WIRING HARNESS. THE ONE-PIECE BEARING WITHIN THE LOWER CONTROL ARM BALL JOINT CAN WEAKEN SLOWLY DURING USE AND EVENTUALLY CRACK. THE NUTS AND BOLTS THAT ATTACH THE REAR BRAKE ADAPTOR TO THE AXLE HOUSING FLANGE CAN LOOSEN AND EVENTUALLY SEPARATE. IF ONE OR MORE OF THE NUTS COME OFF THE BOLTS, DAMAGE TO THE PARKING BRAKE ASSEMBLY OR TO THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) SENSOR AND SENSOR RING (IF SO EQUIPPED) WILL OCCUR. IF ALL FOUR NUTS ON ONE END OF THE AXLE COME OFF THE BOLTS, DAMAGE TO THE BRAKE HYDRAULIC LINE OR THE PARKING BRAKE CABLE CAN OCCUR.

The contact stated that all four tires were showing signs of cracked sidewalls and treads. The contact stated that the failure was discovered while cleaning the tires. The contact stated that the tires were purchased new from Walmart on 10/31/2014. The tires were not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer for diagnosis or repairs. The manufacturer Goodyear was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the tires were too old as there was a 6-year warranty on cracking. There was no assistance offered. The tire failure mileage was unknown. The approximate vehicle mileage was 200,000.

THE FEATURE WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND CAUGHT FIRE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND A LETTER WITHIN 7-10 DAYS. FORD WOULD NOT INFORM HIM IF THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V336000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) AND FORD RECALL NUMBER 05S28. THE REPRESENTATIVE GAVE HIM A WEBSITE TO ENTER IN THE VIN AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE CAUGHT FIRE 30 MINUTES AFTER IT WAS PURCHASED. THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARRIVED AND FILED A REPORT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 187,000.

THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,989.

THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR MONTHS LATER. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE ON SIX OCCASIONS, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY ON FOUR OCCASIONS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,528.
RECALL CAMPAIGN 07V336000 IS NOT BEING IMPLEMENTED. FORD IS SIMPLY DESTROYING THE VEHICLE'S CRUISE CONTROL AND SINCE THEIR LIABILITY IS THUS ELIMINATED, THEY ARE SYSTEMATICALLY DRAGGING THEIR FEET IN REPAIRING CARS. THE FIX PROMISED IN OCTOBER 2007 IS NOW CLAIMED TO NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL DEC. 2007. MY PARENTS CAR HAS BEEN RENDERED UNUSABLE FOR TRIPS SINCE AUGUST AND NOW THEY WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TRAVEL FOR THANKSGIVING OR CHRISTMAS!!! ONE IS DISABLED AND CANNOT DRIVE AND THE OTHER HAS LEG SPASM PROBLEMS AND MUST USE CRUISE CONTROL FOR SAFE DRIVING FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR. THE MONTGOMERY COUNTY FIRE INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S WIRING HARNESS, WHICH WAS NEAR THE FUEL LINE, WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FIRE ENGULFED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. FLUID LEAKED OUT OF THE LINE LEAVING THE REAR WHEELS WITHOUT BRAKING ACTION. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN BECAUSE THE FLUID LINES WERE NOT STAINLESS STEEL MANUFACTURED. WITH THE AID OF A NEIGHBOR (A PROFESSIONAL MECHANIC) THE BALL JOINT WAS REPLACED WITH AN AFTERMARKET PART,COST $52.00(NO LABOR COST-SELF INSTALLED).THE BROKEN BALL JOINT( I HAVE RETAINED THE BROKEN PART IN MY POSSESSION) DID NOT HAVE ANY FITTINGS FOR LUBRICATION,BUT ACCORDING TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIVISION IN DEARBORN MI( MR.PAUL LAFFIN ) MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF ANY SAFETY RECALL(98S37 FORD'S # ) OR 98V322000.I WAS ADVISED THAT I SHOULD TAKE MY CAR TO THE NEAREST LINCOLN DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND OR SERVICE OF THE OTHER (RIGHT SIDE) BALL JOINT. MY DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK INVOLVES 15 MILES ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY,I GUESS I WAS JUST LUCKY TO HAVE THIS FAILURE OCCUR ON A CITY STREET AT 20 MPH. I AM VERY DISSATISFIED WITH FORD,LINCOLN FOR THEIR RESPONSE TO MY ISSUE WHICH I BELIEVE IS A DEFECTIVE PART THAT THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR AND CORRECT. MY CAR, A 1994 LINCOLN TOWN CAR, CAUGHT FIRE AND BURNED SITTING IN MY DRIVE WITH THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. I HAD PARKED IT AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF 5 1/2 HOURS EARLIER BEFORE THE INCIDENT. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION( I SUPPOSE IT WAS DUE TO ONE OF THE TIRES BLOWING OUT) THAT THREW SOME DEBRIS FROM ONE OF THE PARTS THAT BURNED INTO THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE CAUSING A HOLE IN THE SIDING ON MY HOUSE AND THE HEAT FROM THE FIRE ALSO BUCKLED THE VINYL SIDING ON MY HOUSE.. I HAVE REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY, BUT THEY DO NOT SEEM TOO INTERESTED IN INVESTIGATING TO SEE WHAT CAUSED THE FIRE TO START. THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE INSUFFICIENT DUE TO THE DULLING OF INTERNAL COMPONENTS AS THE RESULT OF AN APPARENT DESIGN DEFECT. THE MFG. USED A 9005 BULB WITH A DIFFUSER. THE BULB AND DIFFUSER GENERATE EXCESSIVE HEAT AND HAVE DULLED THE REFLECTIVE MATERIAL INSIDE THE HEADLAMP ASSEMBLY. THE 9005 BULB IS A HIGH BEAM BULB USED, IN THIS CASE, IN A LOW BEAM ASSEMBLY. I URGE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AS IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON COMPLAINT COUPLED WITH A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. *LA
