2017 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER Recalls, Complaints & Safety

The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact stated that while driving 25 MPH, there was smoke coming from the front of the vehicle. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to Meineke Car Care Center and was diagnosed and determined that the coolant pipe needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact a request for a Goodwill service from the dealer would be sought. The dealer denied the request. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 68,570.

I'd like to report an incidence of manufacturer non-compliance. We've had recall number 25V-514 open since September 30, 2025. The dealership has said that they don't have a part and simply left it at that. I called Land Rover, and they also indicated that they don't have a part. They won't provide any more details. It has now been 176 days since this we received the letter. I'm sure that Land Rover knew about this problem long before the letter was sent. This is a beyond unacceptable timeframe to process this recall. They are putting the lives of consumers at risk. The letter states, "Suspension arm detachment can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash." This is a safety issue and they have an obligation to fix it. This is beyond the "reasonable" timeframe to complete a recall.

I received a notice regarding NHTSA Recall 25V-514 and despite repeated attempts to get the problem fixed, I have repeatedly been told that no solution is available. I am fearful that a failure of the knuckle joint will cause a severe incident resulting in injury or death.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The steering and driver assistance system appear to be malfunctioning. The vehicle intermittently pulls to the right during lane changes, creating resistance in the steering wheel. Additionally, the blind spot monitoring indicator remains illuminated when the vehicle is stopped. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While driving at freeway speeds, the vehicle unexpectedly pulled to the right when attempting to change lanes. This required immediate corrective steering to maintain lane position. The condition creates a loss of driver confidence and could result in unintended lane departure or collision. The unexpected steering behavior poses a serious safety risk to myself, passengers, and surrounding vehicles. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue has been experienced multiple times. The vehicle recently had front control arms replaced, but the steering pull and blind spot indicator issue have persisted intermittently. The concern has not yet been fully diagnosed or confirmed as resolved. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle has not been inspected by police. It has been serviced by a dealer for suspension-related work. There is an open recall (NHTSA Recall Number 25V-514) with no remedy currently available. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? A small yellow blind spot indicator light remains illuminated in the side mirrors when the vehicle is stopped. There are no other consistent dashboard warning messages. The symptoms began intermittently prior to the steering pull event and have continued periodically.

On February/12/2026 I was slowing down normally in a 25mph zone to stop at a red light and just before the moment that my vehicle actually came to a stop I heard a loud breaking sound coming from the front and I felt my vehicle's nose dip down on the passenger side. It was obvious that something major broke so I did not proceed or attempt to drive from that point. I turned on my 4 way flashers and a few angry drivers at the same light expressed their displeasure with me for not proceeding when the light turned green by using finger signals as they drove around me. One passerby in the lane to my right told me that my wheel had come off! The police showed up a few minutes later and they called for a recovery truck. While waiting for the tow truck my husband arrived and he looked at the damage. The damage was an obvious failure of a major suspension / steering component as you could see that the top part of the steering knuckle had broken away from the suspension and the tire was laying out at a 45+ degree angle. Also while waiting for the tow truck I looked up to see if there are any recalls on my vehicle was horrified to learn that there is a major recall for the steering knuckle on my car. I have not received a recall letter or a notification about this serious safety issue which is almost as scary as the thought of this failure happening at highway speeds! After dragging my vehicle on to the flatbed I had the driver tow my vehicle directly to the dealership where I purchased my vehicle when new. >Front passenger steering knuckle break away failure. My vehicle is not repaired at this time so it is available for inspection at the dealership of origin. >Everyone on the road including myself was at risk if this failure happened at normal highway speed because my car would have been uncontrollable! >Has not been inspected at this time as this just happened. >There were no symptoms, drive-ability issues, or warning lights or any indication until the moment of failure!

Recall 25V-514, they don't have a "remedy" and my vehicle started to show signs of crack appearing on steering knuckles. Local dealer won't do anything about it and because of this I am afraid of driving my vehicle. This is the vehicle I use to carry my kids, and it is the only vehicle I have. I have had to rent out of pocket a car just to take kids to school and back home.

My vehicle was recently in for service and upon inspection the technician observed a rusted fuel tank shield. The reason this problem occurs is because of a process called galvanic corrosion. The fuel tank shield is bolted onto an aluminum heat shield, and the pairing of these two different metals accelerates the corrosion. While there is no specific national NHTSA recall for the 2017 Range Rover fuel tank shield rusting out, it is a known issue caused by insufficient protective coating, often leading to severe corrosion where the steel shield meets the aluminum chassis. The issue is commonly discussed as a design flaw, potentially causing the shield holding the fuel tank to fail. Upon researching this issue, Land Rover has acknowledged this problem and has given priority due to the fact that this is a safety issue being that these shields are also responsible for holding the tanks in place. Furthermore, Land Rover will grant me a credit for the repair but the only way I can qualify is if I personally report it to the federal government then a customer experience specialist from Land Rover reaches out to me and offers me a credit.

GAS TANK SHIELD HAS ROTTED DUE TO GALVANIC CORROSION AS THE FUEL TANK SHIELD IS BOLTED ONTO AN ALUMINUM HEAT SHIELD. THE PAIRING OF THESE TWO DIFFERENT METALS HAS CAUSED THE SHIELD TO BECOME UNSTABLE AND IS PART OF HOLDING THE GAS TANK ITSELF IN PLACE. EXTREMELY UNSAFE.

I own a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover where the airbag warning light remains illuminated at all times on the dashboard, even when the front passenger seat is empty and no cargo is present on the seat. The warning light for airbag indicatesthat the air bag is not activated and will not work in a collision. The passenger air bag has been inoperable for over 2 years.This issue has persisted for several years, with documented dealer service records dating back to before my warranty expired. The dealer (Land Rover of Palm Beach) diagnosed it as resulting from the front passenger seat movement causing detachment or strain on the wiring harness/connector for the occupant classification system (OCS), which detects passenger presence and controls airbag deployment. The Passenger seat air bag sensor or wiring harness is defective and needs replacement for the passenger side air bag to function. They said that all 2018 Range Rover air bag harnesses are too short and are prone to being detached by seat movements / adjustments. They have repeatedly reset the light and reconnected the harness, but the warning recurs shortly after, indicating an unresolved design or manufacturing defect in the under-seat wiring that is prone to failure from normal seat adjustments. This prevents reliable operation of the passenger frontal airbag, posing a serious safety risk as it may fail to deploy (or deploy improperly) in a crash, endangering occupants. The dealer refuses to install a new larger harness or provide a permanent fix, despite this being a known recurring problem reported by other owners of similar L405 Range Rover models. They say that Land Rover corporate is not providing a newer replacement harness and is not paying for the repairs despite this being a serious safety issue. I request NHTSA investigation into this potential widespread defect to determine if a recall or safety action is warranted. This may be the same problem as reported in NHTSA Campaign # 11500093 & 11693335.

The contact was advised by the dealer that the corrosion was more severe on the driver's side shield and there was a risk that the fuel tank could separate from the frame of the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer advised that the steel fuel tank shield was bolted to an aluminum heat shield on the bottom of the fuel tank and was creating a process called galvanic corrosion. The contact was advised by the manufacturer that there was a Technical Service Bulletin covering the repair on model years 2013 through 2016. The contact was advised by the manufacturer representative that the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover was not covered and would not be covered until the manufacturer was requested to do so by the Federal Government. Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2017 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact stated that by viewing the paperwork signed at the dealer, upon receiving the vehicle, a mileage discrepancy was discovered after the purchase. The vehicle was a dealer sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 110,000. It was later discovered that the vehicle’s title mileage was 93,083, and based on the Carfax report, 93,083 and the current mileage on the vehicle was 98,800.

The suspension light came on saying that there is a suspension error "leaning when cornering" in yellow. Also the "suspension fault" light "stop safely stop engine" in red comes on. The arms has been replaced, due to a bend because of the weight. The brakes, rotors and sensors are replaced every 3 months because of the weight wearing down the brakes faster than usual. (AND NO I'M NOT USING AFTERMARKET PARTS ALL PARTS ARE OEM PARTS FROM RANGE ROVER). When I reached out to Range Rover they had no solution or suggestions. The best the representative came up with was park your truck. They don't have the parts. Why are these trucks allowed to be on the road. If that's the case replace the whole truck then. This part thats cracked is a flaw on the companys end and now I am expected to walk away from my vehicle and except the lost. I have been trying to get this part fixed for a year now.

While driving, my husband noticed a clunking or knocking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. He contacted the dealership in September and was told they were experiencing a system outage and could not assist us at that time. We continued to drive the vehicle, and soon after, the steering began to feel loose and started pulling to one side. While I was driving, the car suddenly jerked sharply, and I temporarily lost control of the steering. The vehicle felt increasingly unstable and unsafe to drive. Eventually, the car completely shut off while I was driving on the interstate.

This is related to the repairs, not from an incident. Land Rover does not have a fix for the defective part, they are replacing with a new, yet old design part. Ok, but they are requiring the owners to pay for the parts and labor to replace until such a time that a newly designed part is available. According to them, at that time they will replace free of charge and refund the amount required today. Yet, they have not timetable for above. That is unacceptable.

LJR is taking too long to order the replacement, meanwhile these vehicles are on the road and dangerous.

Suspension fault message would keep popping up.

Engine keeps randomly stalling at stop lights and/or stop signs. I was almost T-boned when making a left turn at [XXX] on [XXX]. This has been very dangerous. I have left multiple messages with the local dealership, Tom Wood Jaquar/LandRover with NO returned phone call so I drove over there on 8/15/2025. Original coolant manifolds, two piece Vehicle was inspected by service tech at North Atlanta Land Rover in Alpharetta Ga on June 2, 2025. Vehicle was then inspected for a second opinion at Bear Valley Service LLC on June 10, 2025. Findings were consistent and I was advised to repair this two piece manifold system and its components before it failed causing catastrophic failure to the vehicle. Said repair was complete June 11, 2025. Safety to myself and potential passenger would be potential for vehicle to fail causing an accident, engine failure, steering issues, etc. This similar problem has been reported to Land Rover numerous times. Land Rover has not issued a recall although they acknowledge (per both techs) that this two piece manifold system is prone to splitting and cracking. Land Rover has sub sequentially changed and now installs one piece manifold systems to eliminate the prior problem. I had to pay for the replacement of this system regardless that Land Rover is completely aware this is a design or manufactured defect that was installed in my vehicle when it was built. I should not have to bear the financial burden to replace parts that the dealer and manufacturer have acknowledged cause catastrophic problems. The manifold issue was discovered by the dealership mentioned above and they recommended immediate replacement to avoid catastrophic failure. ($5116.30) i took the vehicle to another Range Rover authorized repair shop for a second opinion and they made the same recommendation. Based on that second opinion, I proceeded to have the two piece replaced by the one piece system to prevent catastrophic failure. I can provided the invoice listing labor and all associated replacement parts that were installed. This is a Land Rover issue and I believe they should pay the entire amount due to the fact they acknowledge the failure of these parts yet have no intention to do so.

While driving at approximately 20 mph, the front passenger control arm broke causing it to separate from the upper knuckle. This put my wife and other bystanders in harms way and could have caused an accident and or injuries. No warning signs or alarms. There is a Land Rover recall for this issue, but none are available for this model. This should be considered and included in the recall, since this a potential hazard and manufacturer defect.

Right front passenger seat belt is not locking right away. It takes several tries for the seat belt to lock in place.

I am the owner of a 2017 Land Rover Range Rover (VIN: [XXX] ). I recently discovered a crack in the front steering knuckle of my vehicle, which I believe poses a significant safety risk. This type of failure could result in a sudden loss of control, especially at higher speeds or during turns, potentially leading to a serious accident. I am aware that Land Rover issued a recall (NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-840) for a similar defect in the front suspension knuckle affecting 2014–2016 models, but my 2017 model is not currently included in this recall—even though the issue appears identical. Given the nature of the failure and its similarity to the existing recall, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the recall should be expanded to include additional model years. I am concerned that other vehicles like mine may be at risk without the owners being aware of this potentially dangerous defect. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle rolled about one hundred feet before it rolled onto a curb and stopped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a corroded sunroof drain tube and faulty electrical components due to corrosion. The contact was informed that the sunroof drain tube and the electrical components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 91,798.

On July 16th, 2021, this vehicle was purchased from Frankel Range Rover as a Certified 2017 Range Rover with 36K miles on it. The vehicle has always received maintenance on time and directly from the Range Rover dealership as scheduled. However, without warning signs, lights or indicators of any kind on January 31st, 2024 the car started making a strange noise and was immediately towed directly back to where it was purchased. The car has been at the dealership for over 3 weeks and unable to be diagnosed. Finally I get a call that the Certified vehicle that I purchased less than 3 years with 36K miles on it and that I have driven less than 30K miles requires a new engine with only 63,700 miles on the odometer. This vehicle has a major issue if it requires a engine and had to be a lemon. The manufacturer is stating that a new engine will cost roughly $38,900. Please look into this because having me drive a lemon vehicle with no warning signs is a safety risk to not only my family but others. The problem as been inspected by the dealership and there were not any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, The problem began on January 31st, 2024.

The timing chain collapsed while driving. The engine started a loud clanking noise decelerated and would not restart.

THE VEHICLE IS DOING THE EXACT BEHAVIOR OF TECHNICAL BULLETIN N206NAS1. THE FUEL GAUAGE INDICATES LOW FUEL AND THE LOW FUEL WARNING LAMP IS ILLUMINATED ALTHOUGH THE FUEL TANK IS KNOWN NOT TO BE EMPTY. THE ENGINE WILL CUT OFF UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE DRIVING AND IT IS CONSIDERED UNSAFE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THE DEALER REFUSED TO GIVE THE VEHICLE A SERVICE UPDATE WITHOUT HAVING THE TECH CHARGE A LARGE FEE TO PLUG IN THE CAR WHEN ITS A KNOWN ISSUE. PLEASE ADVISE.

Upon starting one morning I noticed the vehicle’s steering was heavier than usual. The next day, I heard strange noises like a knocking upon pressing the accelerator, and then the brake. The 3rd day, the steering column started making a scrubbing noise.
