The contact owns a 2018 Kia Soul. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH, the vehicle stalled and jerked while accelerating and experienced severe jerking while decelerating. The failure had occurred on several occasions. On June 18, 2024, the vehicle failed to accelerate or shift properly.
... On January 15, 2025, the vehicle shuddered violently and nearly stalled. On April 14, 2026, the vehicle was jerking, and the transmission shifted gears improperly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, and observed that the vehicle was consuming oil excessively. The dealer replaced the spark plugs and performed an induction cleaning and transmission valve service. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure after a 36-mile test drive, after the service. From May 27 to May 29, 2026, the vehicle failed to start and was towed to the dealer again, where a new short-block engine assembly was installed. On June 2, 2026, a technician discovered that there was no oil in the engine, resulting in a critical crankshaft failure code. Despite the short block replacement and oil correction, the powertrain failures persisted, and the vehicle failed to exceed 50 MPH. The vehicle violently stalled and jerked while accelerating and decelerating, creating a safety hazard. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,573.Read more

A known Kia Telluride issue arose with the oil filter housing gasket. I came out to find a huge oil leak on my driveway. Not only was the oil really low but it's suspected that it also caused the antifreeze to become low. I had just had the oil change a couple weeks prior so not sure if the technici
... an could have also tightened it too much torque when they tighten the filter cap, causing a crack. It's a known Kia Telluride issue. I was still under 60K warranty but passed the 5 year warranty mark by only 2 months. Since I'd bought my Kia just down the street and faithfully had it serviced there, they service manager tried to be nice and gave me $20 off the $220 bill and told me I should contact Kia since it was a known problem. But when I did they took my case seriously until they learned the dealership gave me $20 off and then proceeded to deny paying for anything. As mentioned, it's a very common issue with this make and model. If I hadn't noticed the oil spot on my driveway, I could have easily driven it until there was no oil (it was already super low) and then had the whole engine blow up. I'm just lucky I park outside and saw it. Now every time I call Kia and try to speak to a supervisor, I go straight to voicemail.Read more

Description of Defect: My 2020 Kia Telluride experienced catastrophic engine failure and excessive oil consumption, which is a known issue for this model year (to the point that I had to sell it just 1 year after I bought it). The vehicle consumes oil at an alarming rate without any dashboard warnin
... g lights, or low oil pressure indicators, leading to sudden loss of engine power and potential stalling while in motion. This failure occurred at 93,200 miles, well before the expected service life of the powertrain. Safety Risk: Sudden engine stalling or power loss while driving at highway speeds creates an immediate risk of rear-end collisions and leaves the driver without power steering or braking assistance. The lack of any 'Check Engine' or 'Low Oil' light prior to the mechanical crisis meant there was zero opportunity to safely maneuver off the road before the vehicle became disabled. Furthermore, excessive oil consumption in this engine type has been linked to potential fire risks under the hood. Failure/Incident Details: Despite following all manufacturer-recommended maintenance, the vehicle suffered a major [Engine/Transmission] failure. Kia America has acknowledged the failure but refuses to provide transparency or assistance, despite Technical Service Bulletins (TSB SA428 and TSB 089) existing for these exact powertrain issues. This represents a significant safety defect that puts my family and other drivers at risk.Read more

Component or system that failed: The engine failed suddenly while driving. The suspected failure is an internal connecting-rod bearing or related bottom-end engine component. The vehicle is currently at a repair facility and the engine is available for inspection upon request. How safety was put at
... risk: The engine lost power suddenly and became inoperable while driving. This created a hazardous situation because the vehicle could no longer maintain speed or safely continue in traffic. Sudden engine failure without warning increases the risk of a crash, especially at highway speeds or in heavy traffic. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent shop: An independent repair shop inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the engine has experienced a catastrophic internal failure and will not rotate. The timing belt was confirmed to be intact. The shop advised that the engine requires replacement. A dealer diagnostic is pending or in progress. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by manufacturer, police, insurance, or others: The vehicle has been inspected by an independent repair facility. It has also been presented to a Honda dealership for diagnostic evaluation. The manufacturer has not yet physically inspected the vehicle. Warning lamps, messages, or prior symptoms: Prior to the failure, the engine developed a knocking noise between approximately 3,000 and 4,000 RPM. The vehicle was driven approximately 80 miles after the noise first appeared. No check-engine light or other warning messages appeared before the engine suddenly failed and the vehicle became inoperable.Read more

... gnal activated. Simultaneously, an 18-wheeler in the lane beside me was merging to his right. The sudden loss of my IPC screen meant I could not see my speedometer, warning indicators, safety messages, or any visibility cues needed to safely judge traffic speed and spacing. This created an immediate hazardous situation and made it extremely difficult to manage both my own speed and the surrounding traffic patterns. As I recognized the danger, I attempted to brake and avoid a collision. During this moment, my steering wheel began to shake slightly—possibly due to the lane-keeping or lane-safety system responding. Despite my efforts to correct and avoid impact, the 18-wheeler collided with my vehicle. At the time of the crash, I had no visibility of any dashboard warnings, alerts, vehicle speed, or safety notifications due to the IPC failure. Vehicle Information: Year: 2013 Make: Mercedes-Benz Model: C300 (4MATIC) Approximate Mileage: 126,026 Component: Latches/Locks/Linkages – Interior Door Handle Summary of Issue: On October 10, 2025, the interior driver-side door handle on my 2013 Mercedes-Benz C300 broke, making it impossible to
... open the driver’s door from the inside. The handle broke through normal use upon trying to open the car door from the drivers side. The only way to exit the vehicle now is to roll down the window and reach around to use the exterior handle. On October 14, 2025, I spoke to two Mercedes-Benz dealerships in my area. They both confirmed this is a recurring problem on this model but stated there is no recall. One of them physically inspected the vehicle door problem. I believe the actual broken replacement part costs about $50. However, according to these same authorized Mercedes Benz repair shops I spoke to, Mercedes-Benz REQUIRES replacing the entire door panel assembly, which costs between $950 and $1,480 in labor and parts. This is not a reasonable or safe solution for such a critical component. This poses a serious safety hazard. In the event of a fire, collision, electrical failure, or if the windows become inoperable, the driver (myself) could become trapped inside the vehicle, leading to potential injury or death! I strongly urge the NHTSA to investigate this recurring defect, as it directly affects occupant safety and the ability to exit the vehicle in an emergency. Universal Imports, Rochester, NY – Inspected and confirmed recurring problem, no recall, verbal repair estimate $950, and Mercedes‑Benz of Rochester (West Herr Automotive), NY] – Confirmed recurring problem, verbal repair estimate $1480 Requested Action: Please investigate whether this defect warrants a safety recall or mandatory manufacturer repair campaign. The interior door handle failure on Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles represents a clear safety risk to occupants.Read more

I hit a deer going roughly 65mph on my way to work. The hit crushed the radiator into the engine, destroyed the airbox, folded the hood, and practically vaporized the headlight. The airbag, however, did not deploy- not in the wheel or in the side curtain. I wasn't injured but thought it was strange
... the because the crash totalled the car (~$16k of damage) and was at a high speed. The car had one accident prior, hitting a concrete pillar at a low speed (less than 10mph) and had been repaired two years earlier. I kept every maintainence record for the car and never had any airbag lights on or service done. Because the airbags didn't deploy, the car didn't initiate the Safety Connect call to 911 or anyone else. I recently saw Toyota settled with many owners of 2019 Corolla sedans but the hatch wasn't included, but I have (anecdotally) heard of similar stories from other hatch owners.
