The Panoramic Sunroof spontaneous combusted traveling 75 mph on the interstate. No debris, other vehicles, or overpasses in sight. The explosion and raining glass poses a safety concern. The vehicle is currently in the shop being inspected by the manufacturer, repair shop, insurance adjusters trying to decide who is going to cover the random exploding panoramic sunroof. If government environmental can require auto start stops be put on all consumer vehicles, it seems that the regulatory safety could do something about the overhead exploding glass that is both dangerous and costly.
1 injured
Moonroof glass shattered while driving on interstate
The instrument panel went black while driving. Unable to see MPH, Gas, Gauges, or safety alerts, warning lamps, etc. The dealership confirmed there is no recall. This is a safety issue and should not be at the expense of the consumer.
The contact owns a 2023 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that upon opening the front driver's side door, the contact became aware that the door hinges were fractured. The failure also occurred on the lower part of the front passenger's side door. The dealer was contacted, and the contact sent a picture of the failure to the dealer. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 62,305.
Vehicle: 2023 Ford Expedition XLT Max Component: Service Brakes / Hydraulic / Brake Pedal Description of the Problem: The vehicle experiences intermittent brake slippage that occurs randomly approximately 2–3 times per month. The issue happens while decelerating between 10–20 mph. When applying the brakes to slow down, the brake pedal suddenly travels further downward, as if the brakes slip or momentarily lose pressure. This significantly reduces braking confidence and control. The condition occurs without warning and is not driver-induced. When it happens, it feels as though the brakes may fail entirely. Safety Risk: This is a serious safety concern. This vehicle is our primary family vehicle and is regularly used to transport two toddlers and an infant. When the brake slippage occurs, it is frightening and creates fear that the brakes could fail while driving, potentially causing a serious accident. I do not feel the vehicle is safe to operate under these conditions. Service History / Attempts to Repair: •The vehicle is just over one year old and covered under an extended warranty. •The vehicle has been taken to two separate Ford dealerships for diagnosis. •Both dealerships stated they cannot perform repairs unless the issue happens while a technician is driving the vehicle. •I was told I must “wait until the problem gets worse” before any repair can be made. •One dealership kept the vehicle for over one week, drove it 100+ miles, and had three technicians drive it, yet reported they could not replicate the issue. Given how frequently this occurs during normal driving, it is concerning that no corrective action has been taken despite repeated complaints. Outcome / Concern: I am concerned that I am being forced to continue driving a vehicle with a known braking issue until a failure becomes severe enough to be witnessed, placing my family and others at risk. I am submitting this complaint to formally document the issue before serious accident occurs
The vehicle experienced a failure of multiple driver assistance and safety systems, with warning messages displayed in the instrument panel cluster. The affected systems include Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance, Parking Collision Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Warning. All of these features are currently inoperative. During normal vehicle operation, messages indicated that driver assistance features were unavailable or malfunctioning. Diagnostic trouble codes related to invalid data and lost communication were stored in multiple modules. The failures appear to be caused by the Image Processing Module A (IPMA) intermittently not communicating on the vehicle network. This condition created a significant safety risk because multiple federally advertised and manufacturer-promoted crash-avoidance and collision-mitigation features were unexpectedly disabled during normal driving. The sudden loss of these systems reduces situational awareness and increases the risk of a collision, particularly during highway driving, lane changes, and parking maneuvers. The issue has been acknowledged by the manufacturer in Special Service Message (SSM 53419), which identifies IPMA software as the likely cause. Temporary recovery procedures have been attempted, but the problem continues to recur. A permanent repair has not been provided, despite this condition being known for over one year. The issue has been confirmed by dealer diagnostics. Warning messages appeared prior to and during the loss of functionality. The affected components remain installed and are available for inspection. The underlying software defect has not been permanently corrected as of this report.

Crash
While pulling out of a parking lot onto a 4 lane undivided city street, the vehicle flashed a warning light on the dash saying “Trailer Brakes Engaged” and the vehicle came to an abrupt stop in the lanes of active traffic narrowly avoiding a collision. As if the parking brake had set uncommanded. The vehicle was not and has never pulled a trailer since we’ve owned it the last 9 months. The engine was stalled but accessory was still on. After an off/on cycle the vehicle started and went into gear functioning normally. Immediately taken to a ford/Lincoln dealer. They inspected and told us they found no codes and no discernible issues with the vehicle and it was released. Will be dropped off at another ford shop in the morning to continue diagnosis.

While driving at varying speeds the service brake warning light would come on and the vehicle would shudder while decelerating before coming to a full stop as the brakes were engaged resulting in a longer distance required for breaking. After initial occurrence the vehicle was inspected by the local dealership where they determined that "The brake lines passed inspection and there were no other observable issues." This happened roughly 20 times over a collective 2 hours of drive time throughout a 3 week period. Eventually the vehicle's computer system disabled the ABS and provided an error code regarding a faulty ABS. Upon a second inspection by the local dealership service department accompanied by video footage that I took of the incident the following report was made by the service department "Brake Booster Replacement - C0047:31 - Internal EBB failure"

I have taken my vehicle Ford Country in Henderson NV for this recall. I took my expedition in on June 6. As of today there has been zero work done on this recall. I am repeatedly told that there is nothing that can be done until Ford releases the permanent fix. I have a rental and the service agent at this dealership has been great. I have seen the conversation between him and the recall department at Ford and they are refusing to fix it temporarily. This is completely unacceptable. Ford either needs to provide a temporary fix or release the permanent fix so that I can get my vehicle back.
My "restraints indicator lamp warning" is going off occasionally. Ford just contacted me to tell me that my airbag will not deploy if needed.

I was driving down road about to get on [xxx] in Tucson,Az when we heard a loud boom inside my car. We pulled over to see what happen. My moon room had exploded for no reason and nothing hitting it. You could clearly see the force came from inside vs outside due to an object. As we drove down the road to take it to ford glass proceeded to fall down. We are very lucky in the only one that got a piece of glasses in my hand and not on my infant. My sunroof component has had 2 issues prior to this and I feel the glass was faulty and my car has a mal-alignment. Ford is denying any responsibility. The vehicle was sitting at idle in the driveway when a loud boom was heard followed by loud crackling noises coming from what sounded like, everywhere. I turned off the radio and the noise continues. I turned off the vehicle and exited and the noise continued for about one minute before stopping. It has not happened again and I will take it to the dealership to get checked. Had this happened while driving at highway speeds it could have caused a reaction resulting in a horrific crash.
Just bought this 2023 Ford Expedition it was used, within 1 hour of owning it, the Sunroof just shattered and pieces of glass came falling down in-between my kids. Didn't seem like anything hit the sunroof, it just shattered on it's own! took back to dealership, they don't want to take blame and told us it has to go thru our insurance! they would cover the deductible. After looking into other stories, seems like ford has fault glass installed, i read other saying the same, that their windows have just exploded and the glass just shattering without anything hitting them! Feel like this is a safety concern and ford isn't helping with! think the glass hit daughter in face giving little scratch, nothing to major luckly!

Extremely loud/deafening loud pop and static noise coming from the speakers. Scared me so bad while I was driving had to throw the hazard on and stop the vehicle in road. The volume would not adjust and radio would not turn off. Had to turn off the vehicle and open the door for the loud static turn off. At restart deafening static immediately came back. Ears were ringing and felt numb in the inside. No recalls found for this and feel this is extremely dangerous while driving. Had vehicle serviced at dealer and no mention it offer to update the known issue
Service engine light illuminated indicating different occurrences. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership for repair since it's under factory warranty. The service representative, after taking control of the vehicle, he wrote the following in the repair work order: "When Brandon went to park the vehicle, vehicle did not want to go, barely pressed the throttle pedal and it took off like it was floored, foot was off the pedal and it was accelerating in the lot, put vehicle in neutral and applied brakes - see line 2" Line two (2) in the work order states the following: "Customer states the service engine light is still on it shows two different occurrences and reasons in oasis - customer stated wrench light on and no power verified concern checked for dtcs found p2ABA in pcm checked for tsb ssm fsa found tsb 23-2353 reprogrammed pcm oer tsb road tested all okay at this time" Clearly a vehicle with an unexplained acceleration issue poses a real safety issue.

285/45/22 None of the tires will balance leading to terrible vibrations at highway speeds. Dealer tried several times to balance and also road force balance them. Vibrations can be dangerous at highway speeds.

Crash
Hurricane Helene inundated our parking lot on September 27 with approximately 3-4 feet of storm surge. Many vehicles (20-25) were trapped and flooded. This vehicle caught fire and was totally consumed over the course of a 5-6 hour burn. Although all vehicles in our lot were flooded, this was the only vehicle to catch fire. By reports of eyewitnesses, the fire started underwater at the front of the vehicle and proceeded to consume it entirely. It did not blow up. Also reported is that the flashers and alarm/horn were active when the fire started (same was true for most other vehicles in the lot that did not burn). This vehicle is not a Hybrid or EV, it is a stock gasoline vehicle with no modifications. The vehicle was towed away by Auto-Owners Insurance company. It is unknown if they have done any form of inspection or investigation. This was not reported to the police but the fire department made a call to extinguish the flames at 4:55 am when the water receded enough for them to access the parking lot.

On three separate occasions, the car started accelerating by itself while speed control was engaged. Once I noticed, I stepped on the brakes and the speed control was disengaged before any accidents happened.

Ford expedition max 2023. My vehicle has had issues since day one. Transmission has a Rough idle- can see hood shake, door shake, steering wheel shake. This is in all temperatures, it does not matter if the car has been sitting for 3 minutes or 2 days it does this. Transmission rough shifting gears 3-4-5 between 1-2 RPMs. What is going on with the transmission? Is it going to potentially lock up on me? Any transmission issue is a safety concern. Windshield wiper not aligned properly front passenger side, ford continues saying this is normal… however not all expeditions have abnormally high wind shield wipers. Error code- park brake fault service now. Dealership says this was a fluke for this service code to pop up and nothing is wrong. There was already an air conditioning leak that has been resolved. This should not happen in a 2023 vehicle. Screen is always glitching will stay glitched for several hours where it’s showing black, or showing 10 different parts of the screen and you can’t press anything etc… or staying locked on the back up camera. Dangerous to be driving and have your maps on and then it disappears where you cannot access it. Right side (passenger side) fold out mirror randomly does not fold out upon unlocking vehicle and gets stuck folded in, dangerous to drive with a mirror folded in this affects visibility. Drivers seatbelt messed up, became loose and had to be replaced. This is again a huge safety issue, it has been fixed but should not be occurring in a 2023 vehicle.
