The vehicle’s 12v system failed under normal use. The vehicle is unable to be started without a jumpstart. I think this is related to the issues other Ioniq 5s are seeing.
Incident date: Jun 8, 2023
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 advertises quick charging via level 2 (240v) supporting nearly 10 amps. Hyundai has acknowledged by issuing a TSB this year that the charging port overheats at high amperage and causes charging to cease before the battery reaches the intended state of charge. The TSB addresses th
... e issue by slowing the rate of charge substantially when the port overheats. As a result, owners are unable to "refuel (charge)" the vehicle at the advertised rates. In addition to the overheating charge port posing a potential hazard, the result is that an uninformed owner may not have necessary charge to reach their destination.Read more

The transmission flutters when shifting on my 2015 Corvette. A potential catastrophic failure could cause a fire from transmission fluid hitting the hot exhaust. General Motors is aware of the issue and has issued a TSB. I believe a potential fire and or collision exists if transmission fluid

... as well as prolonged and continued impairments and care. I was struck in the passenger side door by a truck crossing 3 lanes into my 4th lane as i sat idol at a stop light, the extreme impact blew holes in the side walls of my tires. i was pushed me into the median in which i ricocheted off of and was hit a second time by the same truck tearing into the hatch and bending the frame of the vehicle declared a total loss. not one of the airbags deployed and the seat belt failed to restrain me. resulting in severe whiplash, TBI, torn rotator cuff and bicep tear, permanent loss of hearing in my right ear and a cranial fracture, back and neck injuries, hip and intestinal blockage(twisted). At the time of the accident NHTSA, dealer and GM ran VIN due to the suspicion of air bags and seatbelt failure there were no known recalls on my vehicle or VIN at the time. the first time i was notified VIN was confirmed on recall due to the vehicle being left in "test" mode was 8/13/2020 which i immediately filed a claim with report of injury related accident with corporate and they opened a claim and 30 days later stated that my claim was outside of the 3 yr statute of limitations. GM and dealer failed to file the recall in a timely manner with known issues as early as 2014 resulting in my vehicle not being repaired prior to the accident. I believe this to be a Repose Statute in Colorado that is 6 years from incident and would like to file a claim against the dealer and GM for failure to properly notify of recall. failure to notify me of the recall is negligence which resulted in permanent injury and impairment as well as continued medical care which could have been prevented.Read more

WINDSHIELD MOUNTING STRESS CRACK. WHILE INSIDE MY GARAGE TODAY, I FOUND A LARGE 25 INCH LONG CRACK IN THE UPPER DRIVERS SIDE CORNER OF MY 2015 CORVETTE. UPON INSPECTION THE CRACK IS ON THE INSIDE LAYER OF THE 2 LAYER GLASS. NOTHING FELL ON THE CAR AND I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT FOR 6 MONTHS. BEING FRIENDS

THE FORUMS DISCUSSES OWNERS DISMAY AND SAFETY CONCERNS, AND HOW COULD SO MANY CORVETTE C7S HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, AND GM NOT ISSUING A RECALL OR SOMETHING TO HELP ALL THE OWNERS. THESE CRACKING WINDSHIELDS POSE A SAFETY AND LEGAL ISSUE IF DRIVEN. IT IS NOT AN ACT OF GOD THAT CAUSED THE CRACKS, BUT A MISALIGNED GUIDE PIN OR TAB IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE GLASS GM DESIGNED INTO THE CAR. I LIKE GM, AND WOULD LIKE THEM TO LIKE ME TOO. WITH ONLY 7,500 MILES ON THE CAR IT STARTED TO RUN JERKY AND RPMS WOULD FLUCTUATE FOR NO REASON (ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WHEN FULLY WARMED UP). OFTEN FELT LIKE DRIVING ON A WASHBOARD DIRT ROAD. AFTER A COLD START, THE
... RE WAS A DELAY AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. WHEN IT ENGAGED AFTER SEVERAL SECONDS IT WOULD DO SO VIOLENTLY, LURCHING THE CAR FORWARD SUDDENLY. DEALER DIAGNOSED FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER AS DEFECTIVE AND A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THESE TRANSMISSIONS. AFTER LESS THAN 2,000 MILES THE SYMPTOMS RETURNED AND THE DEALER AGAIN REPLACED THE TORQUE CONVERTER. SO NOW I'M ON MY 3RD DEFECTIVE TC. AFTER 1,700 MILES, SYMPTOMS RETURNED AGAIN! DEALER SAID THAT CHEVROLET AND GM HAVE ORDERED A STOP ON REPLACING THE TC'S SINCE NO FIX WAS AVAILABLE. GM ADVISED TO DRAIN AND FLUSH TRANNY, REFILLING WITH MOBIL1 TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS SEEMED TO WORK (ONLY FOR A LITTLE LONGER) BUT IS WORRISOME BECAUSE IN THE FUTURE SERVICE, A TECHNICIAN WILL LIKELY REFILL WITH GM FLUID, NOT MOBIL1. ESPECIALLY IF A SECOND OWNER. NOW AT 16,100 MILES THE SYMPTOMS ARE RETURNING! JERKINESS, SLAMMING INTO GEAR AFTER A DELAY ON COLD STARTS. GM SEEMS TO HAVE TURNED THEIR BACK ON STINGRAY OWNERS BY KICKING THE CAN DOWN THE ROAD BEYOND WARRANTEE (WITH THE MOBIL1 "BAND-AID FIX"). ON THE FORUMS THERE ARE SO MANY OWNER COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. I AM AMAZED THAT THERE IS NO OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION RESULTING IN A RECALL. THIS Z51 LT3 STINGRAY WAS $75,000 OTD! FOR THIS COST WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO EXPECT A QUALITY VEHICLE AND A MOTOR COMPANY THAT STANDS BEHIND IT! CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP US WITH THIS SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY DANGERIOUS PROBLEM?Read more

Simultaneous Loss of Low-Beam Headlights
On May 14, 2014, General Motors (GM) submitted a Part 573 defect information report initiating NHTSA Safety Recall 14V-251 to remedy the subject vehicles.GM will remedy a defect condition in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) by modifying the vehicle's electrical harnessing.GM also announ
... ced a customer satisfaction bulletin to address this issue on model year (MY) 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvettes. Both programs will be conducted free of charge.According to GM, when the engine heats up and cools down (from normal use), the plastic material in the UBEC housing expands at a different rate than an electrical conductor routed within it.The difference in expansion rates results in bending of the conductor, a control circuit for the low beam headlights. After multiple thermal cycles, often taking several years of use, the conductor fractures resulting in an open circuit. When this occurs the low-beam headlights will not illuminate. After the engine is turned off and the UBEC cools, the conductor may temporarily reconnect and restore low-beam function, although subsequent failures will occur. This condition does not affect high-beam headlights, marker lamps, turn signals or fog lamps.Simultaneous loss of low-beam headlights could reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The ODI report counts noted above, involving the loss of low beam headlights, represents those received at the time of GM's recall filing; however NHTSA has since received additional complaints.GM submitted similar complaints in response to the agency's information request.Among the complaints reported to NHTSA, five alleged minor crashes in which the vehicle ran off the road or into roadside objects due to the sudden loss of headlights. Two of these complaints alleged minor injuries and three alleged property damage.Several other reports to NHTSA alleged close calls due to the loss of lighting.GM states that it has received no reports of crashes, injuries or fatalities as a result of this condition. GM's recall action appears to adequately address the safety risks in the subject vehicles of concern to ODI.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. In addition to recalling the subject vehicles, GM is covering MY 2008-2013 Corvettes, which contain essentially the same UBEC, under a customer satisfaction campaign.ODI notes that these vehicles exhibit a lower likelihood of failure due to their comparatively shorter service life. Loss of Low Beam Headlights
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 30 reports from consumers alleging that, after driving for a short time (5 to 30 minutes), both low beam headlights stopped working simultaneously and without warning. The low beam headlights remained inoperative for the re
... mainder of the drive cycle, however no other lighting is affected.General Motors (GM) provided information in response to ODI's information request letter explaining that the loss of headlights is caused by a fractured low beam circuit wire in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC), a device that is similar to a fuse box. The UBEC is located in a high heat area near the engine, and the low beam circuit wire routing within the UBEC makes it susceptible to cyclical stress caused by thermal expansion. The investigation covers model years 2005-2007 Corvettes however ODI also has received four VOQs alleging the same condition in model year 2008 Corvettes. ODI is upgrading the investigation to an Engineering Analysis to further examine the consequences, frequency and scope of this problem. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification (ODI) numbers. For MY 2005-2007: 10400308, 10415603, 10415867, 10416531, 10421639, 10424391, 10424543, 10445971, 10451733, 10454919, 10460674, 10460750, 10463546, 10466342, 10466857, 10468128, 10469057, 10470616, 10471595, 10474350, 10474368, 10475257, 10486597, 10491670, 10496592, 10496788, 10498100, 10502059, 10505606, 10508507, 10510052, 10511467, 10511517, 10511576, 10511696, 10511699, 10511789, 10511837, 10511994, 10512072, 10512093, 10512154, 10512292, 10512341, 10513422, 10514802, 10514978, 10515162, 10515311, 10515821, 10519426, 10519879, 10520155, 10521036, 10521585, 10522260, 10523064, 10523190, 10525646, 10531602, 10531631, 10532439, 10533227, 10533251, 10533339For MY 2008: 10512856, 10514576, 10523059, 10532221Read more

Fuel Tank Leak
In its June 30, 2010 response to ODI's Information Request letter, General Motors (GM) identified the leak source as cracks in either the fuel tank cross-over tube quick connector (connector) and/or the hot-plate weld joint of the connector to the tank. The root causes are attributed to errors in con
... nector material processing, variations in the welding process, and high stresses placed on the driver's side connector during vehicle use.GM also identified the scope of the subject vehicles involved to be those produced from approximately October 22, 2003 through March 19, 2004.GM does not believe the cracks represent an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety based on factors that include; low rate of fuel leaking to the ground, detectable fuel odor, the cracks are at the top of the tank, leaks are detectable during refueling, small quantities of fuel that leaks out, and no associated property damage or personal injury claims. On August 13, 2010, GM issued a Special Coverage Adjustment to remedy fuel tank quick connector leaks and extend the warranty for this issue to 10 years or 100,000 miles in certain 2004 Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac XLR vehicles.Vehicle owners will be notified by mail of the adjustment and will also be entitled to reimbursement for previously paid repairs covered under the adjustment.(See file for, SERVICE BULLETIN 10150: SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT-FUEL TANK QUICK CONNECTOR LEAK).The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.Read more

Electronic Stability Control
On April 26, 2010, at NHTSA's request following this investigation, General Motors submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA to correct a defect associated with the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system in approximately 40,000 Model Year (MY) 2005 and 2006 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles (NHTSA Re
... call No. 10V-172).According to the report, these vehicles may have a problem with the Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) connector created by a fretting condition in the connector (small movement of the pins back and forth creating a residue build up) which could change the electrical resistance and corrupt the information signal to the VSC computer. The VSC system uses the information from the SWPS to calculate the driver's intended vehicle direction; this information is cross referenced to sensors that tell the system which direction the vehicle is actually going and the system will, if it determines a variance indicating the vehicle is in a over-steer or under-steer condition, reduce throttle control and apply braking to make a correction in vehicle direction towards what the system believes is the driver's intended path.GM dealers will inspect the SWPS connector of recalled vehicles and, if necessary, install a terminal position assurance clip to the connector.GM has advised NHTSA that its position is that the inappropriate activations of the VSC system do not present an unreasonable risk to safety because GM believes that the activations are low in occurrence, a rare set of conditions would need to be present, the driver has the ability to maintain direction control if the alleged condition were to occur, and that there are no reports of injuries.NHTSA does not agree.Based on interviews with complainants and testing performed at the NHTSA Vehicle Research and Testing Center in East Liberty, Ohio, ODI believes that the majority of the unwarranted activations of the VSC system occur when turning, in such scenarios as travelling highway entrance or exit ramps or in street traffic conditions.Complainants report the effect produced by the malfunction of the VSC system is sudden unexpected braking and in some cases a sudden unexpected change in vehicle direction which some complainants indicate was sufficient to cause a movement into an adjoining lane of traffic or in some cases into curbing or stationary objects.During the VSC event the brake lights of the Corvette are not illuminated, depriving trailing traffic from indication that braking is occurring and some complainants indicate the braking effect can be severe and last up to 10 seconds in length.Based on available information ODI counts four crashes due to a malfunction of the VSC system; GM is counting one crash due to the problem. In these circumstances NHTSA believes the defect presents an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety, and so advised GM when requesting this recall. This investigation is closed based on GM's recall.Read more

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL MALFUNCTION
ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2008, ODI OPENED PRELIMINARY EVALUATION PE08-056 TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS OF INAPPROPRIATE ACTIVATION OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SYSTEM IN MODEL YEAR (MY) 2005 AND 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE VEHICLES.SOME REPORTS RECEIVED BY ODI AND SOME REPORTS TO GENERAL MOTORS (GM)
... CONTAINED IN GM'S RESPONSE TO PE08-056 ALLEGE THAT THE ESC SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED CAUSING A SUDDEN AND INAPPROPRIATE BRAKING ACTION WITHOUT ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SWERVE LEFT OR RIGHT UNEXPECTEDLY. GM ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IN JANUARY 2006, LATER REVISED IN OCTOBER 2007 (BULLETIN NO. 06-02-35-002B) CONCERNING ESC PROBLEMS IN MY 2005 AND 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE VEHICLES WITH THE TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL OPTION.THE BULLETIN WAS INTENDED TO CORRECT A FRETTING CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR CONNECTOR C202. AN ENGINEERING ANALYSIS HAS BEEN OPENED (EA09-002) TO CONTINUE TO ASSES THE SCOPE, FREQUENCY, AND SAFETY-RELATED CONSEQUENCES OF THE ALLEGED DEFECT.Read more

STEERING COLUMN LOCKUP
IN 2001, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) ISSUED CUSTOMER SERVICE CAMPAIGNS 1044 AND 1044A TO ADDRESS A CONDITION WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD FAIL TO UNLOCK DURING THE INITIAL KEY-IN AND START-UP IN CERTAIN MY 1998-2000 CORVETTE VEHICLES.HOWEVER, ODI CONTINUED TO RECEIVE COMPLAINTS CONCERNING STEERING COLUMN
... LOCKUP ON CORVETTE VEHICLES.AS A RESULT, PE02-054 WAS OPENED AND LATER UPGRADED TO EA02-031 FOR MY 1997-2001 SUBJECT VEHICLES.ODI'S ANALYSIS IDENTIFIED CONCERNS WITH POST-REPAIR FAILURES IN VEHICLES SERVICED THROUGH THE CAMPAIGNS, AS WELL AS, FAILURES IN MY 1997-2003 SUBJECT VEHICLES NOT INCLUDED IN THE CAMPAIGNS.(NOTE: THE MANUFACTURER FAILURE DATA ABOVE IS LIMITED TO MY 1997-2003 VEHICLES THROUGH 10/17/2003.)ON FEBRUARY 6, 2004, GM NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A SAFETY DEFECT IN MY 1997-2004 CORVETTE VEHCLES EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND MY 1997-2000 CORVETTE VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.THE NOTIFICATION STATED THAT IF THE VOLTAGE AT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM), WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO SHUT DOWN THE FUEL SUPPLY WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED TO UNLOCK AND THE CUSTOMER TRIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IS LOW OR INTERRUPTED, THE FUEL SHUT OFF MAY NOT OCCUR.AS A RESULT, THE CUSTOMER COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOCKED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE STEERING CONTROL AND POSSIBLY CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.GM WILL INSTRUCT OWNERS TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE PCM REPROGRAMMED FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES AND THE ELECTRIC COLUMN LOCK DISABLED FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES.ODI WILL MONITOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE REMEDY IN THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES AND TAKE FURTHER ACTION IF WARRANTED.Read more
