2007 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Recalls, Complaints & Safety

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at the residence, after exiting the vehicle, the contact became aware of an abnormal fuel odor inside the vehicle. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a special coverage had expired. The failure mileage was 11,500.

Fuel smell - possible fuel leak - the issue had been previously addressed with replacement of fuel subassembly in both saddle tanks. I believe that it is happening again ...

There was a strong fuel smell after the last 2 times I drove it. I took it to the shop and they tell me the evap canister was saturated and the fuel pump had small cracks in it likely seeping when the car heats up. I am having the fuel pump replaced, the evap canister and several seals/hoses in hopes it won't leak again.

After filling the tank with fuel, I was immediately aware of a strong smell of gas. I am always extremely careful not to overfill causing any fuel to escape. The heavy smell/escape of fumes is such that the car simply can’t be put in my garage. The risk of igniting and fire is a risk that is unacceptable. General Motors knows about this issue as they did notify me in 2017 that my car could have this condition and that if it did, they would fix it at no charge. I didn’t have the issue at that time so didn’t take the car in. So, now that I the problem, I have taken the car to Bradley Chevrolet in my town, Lake Havasu City, AZ and am told that in order to inspect the car for this issue, I will have to pay for 10 hours of labor ($2200) and only then will they see if they can find a new tank at another dealer. You see, GM no longer makes or has the tanks (according to their parts department). I have contacted their Customer Service Department and have a Case (#[XXX]). I am told that they will not participate going forward unless I spend the $2200 and then if they can’t find a new tank, they will put the car back together and send me home with it! It’s my belief that since this is a documented safety defect resulting in an apparent fire hazard that they would/should take care of it. Fuel smell but no leaks detected, can't store car in garage because of fumes. Worried when driving a fire will occur Had a service bulletin 150682 special vehicle adjustment, need help.

Fuel smell inside and outside when car is parked.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated while starting the vehicle, there was a loud creaking and popping noise coming from the sunroof. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact was concerned about the safety of the vehicle. The manufacturer was made of the failure and advised the contact to reach out to NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage approximately was 22,000.

The fuel tank leaks after filling with fuel, resulting in gas vapors filling the garage. This is a known issue with many C6 corvettes. May result in a fire or explosion

Fuel pump had hairline cacks on top. Gas leak under pressure. Strong fumes while in garage. Gas leaks down on exhaust pipes

There is a strong smell of gasoline coming from the outside of the car. It is strongest once the car has been sitting in my garage overnight. Some evidence of fuel under the car.

There is a fuel leak most likely coming from the fuel pump or gasket from within the 2 gas tanks. Gas fumes are building up in my garage causing a horrible smell. Very dangerous please do something about this. Chevrolet has no recalls for this common problems.

Strong fuel smell inside car as well as in garage. Drivers side tank does appear to have a leak when filled. Doing a search online it appears this is a common issue with this vehicle and that a recall/repair was created for owners however my 2007 (not the original owner) I suspect has since expired. In my opinion any defects that puts the owner and personal property at risk should be covered regardless of age.

Strong smell in car of gasoline and around car

We are having an issue with our vehicle leaking fuel on left side fuel tank. The vehicle is constant smell of gas on that left side. It has been a safety concern for us and the dealer wants us to pay at least $1200 just for diagnostic alone. There was a Special Coverage Adjustment for this issue but we were never notified. The notice is Special Coverage Adjustment 15682. I spoke with GM/Chevrolet Customer Assistance and spoke with [XXX] he said I would have to get diagnostic and that the fee could be applied to repair. I understand there is a time limit on most things but it seems that something that relates to safety issue should not have and end date. This is a type of car that most people just have as a collector car and you can see by the low miles that this is the case. I am not trying to get a repair on a vehicle that has 100,000 or more miles. It may seem trivial but this is important to me. Very strong fuel smell from driver side wheel well and inside of car. When car is parked inside garage it is unbearable.

For last 3 years whenever I fill my vehicle with gas the garage smells of gas until the tank is less than half a tank... The other major issue is the vehicle will not come out of park multiple time. This has put me in embarrassing situations many times. I stay away from driving the vehicle so many times when I could be in physical danger .

The Body Control Module has failed and there are no replacement parts available except used parts. The BCM is hard coded with the VIN. If you use a BCM from another car, certain safety systems are deactivated such as the air bags. The BCM is central to the electronic architecture so all other systems are at risk. The unit can be responsible for the car not starting, the headlights not working, the power windows and door locks failing, or in my case the active suspension not functioning. Since BCM's are widely used, this is a looming major safety issue for the nation because GM quit making new ones, no one else makes these parts, no one can repair the units. I know a number of C6 Corvette owners are using used parts which deactivates the air bags and the security system.

I started smelling gas from my car two weeks ago. I discovered on Corvette Forum.com that this is a common problem. If the car is filled up over 1/2 tank gas will come out of the top and drip on the exhaust, which is very concerning. Chevrolet claims that the cars with this issue were recalled, but mine was not. This is one of two reoccurring issues with the C6 Corvette, and unfortunately, I am a victim of both. The other is the shifter locks in place, and the car will not come out of park. Chevrolet does not own up to the responsibility for this defective engineering as well. Please add me to the complaints for these two recallable issues as Chevrollet refuses to address the issue. Fuel dripping on the exhaust preplexes me why NHTSA has not got involved already.

There is a very strong fuel odor coming from the car when I shut it down, especially when I park in the garage. The smell is overwhelming. Seems like it's coming from the rear part of the car, drivers side. I don't see fuel leaking nor on the garage floor, but it is very evident there is a problem. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed. thank you

Headlights suddenly stopped working.

The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Corvette. The contact stated the engine of the vehicle was replaced because he wanted to update the engine. The contact stated that once the engine was replaced the vehicle would not start. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and stated that 5 cylinder fractured causing the engine to lock up. The manufacturer was contacted and provided no further assistance. The failure mileage was 0.

Every time the fuel tank is filled to full (not past the click), there is a very bad fuel smell but no fuel leaking on the ground. I bought the car with 69000 and have noticed it every time I have filled the tank to full but never past the "click". I have read of many others having the same problem. I am afraid to park my car inside my garage. I have had fuel system parts replaced but it still continues. No leak has ever been noted.

Smell gas around and in car. Cannot see where it is coming from no sign on ground continuing issue for at least a year. I do not use the car . Afraid of fire. My primary car has been in for repair last 30 days and I am forced to use this car

This particular Corvette C6 model (2005 through 2013 model years) has a well known and documented problem with the automatic transmissions. Upon engine startup, it oftentimes will not shift out of the Park gear. When the Chevrolet Customer Service people were called about this, their response was that they are well aware of this problem with the C6 model years. The Customer Service people said that a Recall was not issued because the way to address this problem is to: Shut off the engine, put the ignition in the Accessory mode, then try and shift the transmission into Neutral. If it is able to shift into Neutral, then start the engine. Once the engine starts, then try and shift the transmission into the Drive or Reverse gear. If this sequence doesn't work, we were told just to keep repeating this sequence over and over. There have been occasions when we had to repeat this sequence at least half a dozen times and there have also been occasions where we were stranded in parking lots and had to leave the car and come back to it later to try again. This is a safety concern due to the real possibility of being stranded at night in parking lots. There aren't any warning lights or messages. There also aren't any advanced warnings, in terms of symptoms. The only way the problem manifests itself, is when the car cannot be shifted out of the Park gear. Whenever the car is brought into service, including at Chevrolet dealers for such items as oil changes, the mechanics try shifting it out of the Park gear and when they can't, they will call and ask us what to do. The added concern here is that if the mechanic physically forces the shifter out of the Park gear, the entire shifter and possibly the transmission will be damaged. We are the original owners of the car and it only has 18,000 miles on it. This problem first appeared about two years ago but it is happening much more often now.

The airbag indicator light on the dash of the vehicle periodically lights up indicating a fault with the system. The car was checked by a dealer who could find no issue. The light resets if you cycle the vehicle on/off, but the problem returns randomly when driving the vehicle. The airbag system disabling itself without warning puts the driver at risk of not having the system deploy under conditions it should. The system resetting the warning to every on/off cycle is also misleading because unless you experience the behavior there is no reliable way to know that there is an issue with the SRS system on the vehicle.

On 2/24/18 while driving the vehicle in first gear taking off from a stoplight averaging a speed no higher than 30mph and not yet entering 2nd gear the vehicle made a loud screeching noise from the motor area and then abruptly stopped and shut off the engine. A dashboard warning of reduced motor speed appeared and the vehicle stayed in accessory mode only allowing the interior electrical systems to operate. The roadway that I was on being 3 lanes wide and at time of engine failure I was in the middle lane, I was forced to attempt to take vehicle off main roadway onto a side street. Being that the engine abruptly stopped, speed was lost rather quickly putting me in a dangerous situation where the vehicles behind me and next to me could potentially hit me endangering my safety. Additionally I had to cross over in front of oncoming traffic as the only available safe stop was a side street was on the opposite side of road. At that point I was able to stop the vehicle off the roadway onto a side street where the vehicle was then towed back to our residence. The vehicle was then later towed to our mechanic where bore scope inspection revealed a thrown piston and rod. At that time we authorized a tear down to be completed by the mechanic that revealed a thrown piston and rod in the 1st cylinder, which we have since found out is a known and common cylinder to fail. The rod was thrown through the block and piston shattering which made this catastrophic motor failure not allowing repair to be completed and the only option being a full motor replacement. The mechanic advised this was due to a faulty valve in the cylinder head. Symptoms I feel may have been related and ultimately contributed to this failure date back as far as the date I purchased the vehicle on 4/2/16 where vehicle engine made irregular noises. Vehicle was seen 4/18/16 by Chevy stating noises normal and characteristic to alternator, as well as 11/14/17 when a cylinder 3 injector malfunction was detected.

Gas smell in the entire car after filling up the tank because gas tanks leak and it’s dangerous because the fumes are strong enough that if there was an ignite and it was irked in a garage the garage and house would burn down

Vehicle will not shift out of park after starting, even when brake pedal is properly depressed.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the Special Coverage Adjustment Number: 15682 for the Primary Tank Module Flange Fuel and Vapor Leaks had expired. The contact related the failure to TSB: N150682. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

The contact suffered cuts and scrapes to the right side of his back, buttocks, arm, ankle, as well as, his left and right legs. The contact did not seek medical attention. A police report was not filed. The contact drove the vehicle back into the garage and later had it towed to an independent body shop. This vehicle has a strong odor of gasoline from the rear of the vehicle. There are no signs of fuel on the ground where the vehicle is parked. I understand that this was the subject of another GM special coverage adjustment 15682. I am concerned that the vehicle may catch fire and cause damage to person and property.

After starting the vehicle I am unable to shift out of park. This endangers both myself and a passenger if I need to move the car quickly in case of fire or another vehicle or object coming toward me. It also endangers other passengers in vehicles I may be blocking because they are unable to move. There are many other C6 Corvettes with this same problem documented per the Corvette Forum and YouTube.

I was rear ended on Monday 08/02/21 at approximately 2:45pm in Atlanta, GA. The impact of the accident caused my driver's seat back to collapse backwards. Now I have back pain that I did not have previously. The seats should be recalled and repaired immediately.

The airbag warning light comes on when there is only the driver in the vehicle. When there are two people in the vehicle the airbag warning light goes off. I have had this checked at an independent Corvette mechanic and he says the parts are very expensive and not available at this time. I was wondering if you could tell me if this is a problem that has been reported by other Chevy owners? Where can I go to get parts? There has been no injury or accident. I would like for my airbags to work properly. In case of an accident lack of airbags could be a problem.

Warning light that indicates an airbag system malfunction comes on intermittently for no reason. Occurrs when vehicle is not being driven, but lights when you start the car. Thia ia a serious safety issue since the airbags wont deploy when it's lit. Car only has 13,000 original miles on it.

On this car there is no way to manually open the convertible top in the down position. The spot where there is a hole depicted in the car manual where a button to push to manually open the top is missing. I view this as a safety problem.

I recently purchased my 2007 c6 corvette used. I did not notice anything until I started my drive home which was a 200 mile drive. the gas gauge was reading 1/4 tank of gas and dropped to empty. We stopped in at the gas station and filled the tank but once we did the gauge continued to read empty and a light displayed on the dash stating service fuel system. We continued to drive on our way home and we noticed a strong fuel odor inside the cabin of the car and distinctively from the driver side of the vehicle. I got the car home and noticed a few small drips in the garage that quickly evaporated. To the best of my knowldge I suspected that it was fuel. for the next week or so we did not drive the car but the garage smelled strongly of fuel. I parked it out side and the fuel smell in the garage went away. Odly after filling the tank a few more times the gauge began working again and the service fuel system message went away. It eventually showed an empty tank and then full again. I went to visit my local gm dealer to see if any recalls had been placed on my car over the years and they told me that there are no active recalls. However in my sear accross the forums I found gm bulletin 15682 (primary tank module flange fuel and vapor leaks) for my 2007 corvette. This bulletin was released in july 2016. perfectly matching the issue I am experiencing and was advised my member of many of the forums to file a concern with nhtsa. I have not yet had it inspected by the dealership because they want $1500.00 to inspect and repair because of the need to drop the drive train for proper access. I Would appreciate any assistance with this issue. I am scared to drive my care due to a fire related accident and it is my primary means of transportation.

WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO SEARCH A DATABASE FOR TSB IMPLEMENTATION, I HAVE NO WAY TO DETERMINE IF MY USED CAR PURCHASE HAS BEEN FIXED PER THE MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATION OUTLINED IN THE TSB. ON MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE, I AM NOT ABLE TO ASCERTAIN IF THE FUEL LEAK ISSUE WAS REPAIRED!! TSB IMPLEMENTATION NEEDS TO BE HANDLED SIMILAR TO SAFETY RECALLS TO PREVENT SERIOUS PROBLEMS FOR UNSUSPECTING USED CAR BUYERS.

JUST PURCHASED THIS USED CAR WITH LESS THAN 3000 MILES. I HAPPENED TO COME ACROSS THE FUEL LEAK ISSUE IN ONLINE FORUM. SINCE I REC'D INCOMPLETE SERVICE RECORDS, I DO NOT KNOW IF THE REPAIR HAS BEEN DONE TO MY CAR. THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT WHEN TH EPROBLEM COULD CREATE A FUEL LEAK ONTO THE EXHAUST. IF THE PROBLEM WERE MADE A RECALL, THEN GM WOULD BE FORCED TO NOTIFY ME AS THE CURRENT OWNER SO THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE FIXED BEFORE THERE IS A FIRE RESULTING FROM FUEL LEAK.

CAR STICKS IN PARK AT TIMES AND IS HARD TO GET OUT OF PARK, HAPPENS OFTEN FOR PAST YEAR

RECENTLY, 03/01/2021, FILLING GAS TANK TO OVER 1/2 FULL ON MY PARKED 2007 C6 CORVETTE, WITH 30,360 MILES, PARKED VEHICLE CAUSED STRONG INTERIOR GAS ODOR. ON FURTHER INVESTIGATION AND COMMUNICATION WITH GM, I WAS INFORMED FUEL PUMP WAS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS THEN REDESIGNED TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE; HOWEVER, REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY FUEL PUMP WAS ONLY GIVEN A WARRANTY EXTENSION INSTEAD OF RECALL. CONSEQUENTLY, I WAS NEVER GIVEN A NOTICE OF THE DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT EXISTED IN MY VEHICLE, WHICH IS NOW BEYOND THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY PERIOD FOR SPECIFIC PARTS; AND, AS AN OWNER, I WAS NEVER NOTICED OF THIS KNOWN ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS NOT REQUIRED UNLESS IT IS A RECALL. APPARENTLY THE CAR HAS TWO TANKS THAT ARE SHARED. WHEN OVER 1/2 FILLED, GASOLINE CAN LEAK AND PUDDLE ON TOP OF THE TANKS. WHEN MOVING, THE GASOLINE CAN THEN LEAK DOWN ON THE HOT EXHAUST AND CAUSE A FIRE. I AM NOW FEARFUL OF DRIVING MY CAR DUE TO THE GASOLINE VAPORS, AND WAS ADVISED BY VAN CHEVROLET TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED FOR REPAIR, AS THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE A FIRE OR EXPLOSION, OR THE FUMES COULD CAUSE THE DRIVER TO PASS OUT AND HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE COST OF THIS REPAIR IS OVER $2300-$2500! I WOULD HAVE HAD IT REPAIRED IF IT WERE A RECALL BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE HAZARD. CAR WAS PARKED WHEN I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AND HAVE NOT DRIVEN IT SINCE. THE RISK OF A FIRE, EXPLOSION, OR ACCIDENT IS TOO GREAT UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED! GM ASSIGNED CASE# [XXX], BUT IS CURRENTLY INFORMING THAT IT IS NO LONGER COVERED.
