I am experiencing persistent front suspension issues with my Tesla Model 3 Performance. The vehicle has been taken to a Tesla Service Center three times, yet the problem has not been resolved. The issue includes: Unusual noises (clunking, knocking, or creaking) from the front suspension. Instability
... or poor handling at various speeds. Repeated failures of suspension components despite repairs. Each time, Tesla service has attempted repairs, but the issue continues to persist, raising serious concerns about the safety and durability of the suspension system. The vehicle is currently at Tesla service center as of March 4th 2025 and they are working on the same problem for the 3rd time.Read more

On January 9, a little after 12:30 pm, on Indian Head Highway (MD route 210) northbound near the Manokeek exit, after limiting drive power owing to battery degradation and cold weather (about 30 F) drive power and power steering failed entirely. There was no warning to pull over so I suspect this is
... an undocumented failure mode. After the car was towed home, it would not charge when plugged in until after I disconnected the 12 v battery and reconnected it after about ten minutes. It would then charge and after a few minutes I checked and it would send power to the wheels and power steering again. The state of charge of the lithium ion battery was about 86% throughout. This was not a failure of the on board 12 v battery charging system or 12 v battery which the tow truck driver tested as good, it is quite new. After the reset of disconnecting the 12 v battery and reconnecting, the terminals show higher voltage when the car is on than when it is off. Attached please find a picture of the warning lights after the car failed. Note that the battery light is for the 12 volt battery but there is nothing wrong with it. Also atteched, voltmeter readings when the car is off and on showing that the 12 volt battery recharging system is working. This car may or may not have an optional battery warmer, but its range of operation is well below the 30 F temperature when the failure occured. The car is more that two years overdue for warranty lithium ion battery replacement owing to manufacture delay.Read more

The front suspension randomly shakes when doing speeds above 60 on the freeway. It’s very dangerous especially because we almost experienced running into a semi while driving on I-50 between a cement construction wall and the semi. I find it hard to believe that Ford will NOT own up to this. There

I was driving my Jeep Rubicon 2 door with manual transmission 32,000 miles out of town which I don’t normally don’t due because the steering is sloppy. I have spoken with Jeep Cares about the issue multiple times it’s been this way since I got it with 14,000 miles. It feels dangerous to bring
... it up to 65mph. The other day I got a death wobble after hitting a small bump in the road in it. I am a combat veteran with two tours one in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. Let’s just say I have PTSD from driving this thing. I can’t believe someone hasn’t been killed yet. The NHTSA needs to do more on this issue. The complaints are real and this needs to be addressed. I want to sell it but can’t put this out there to be resold and possibly kill someone. I guess I’m back to Sunday drives in it in and around town. Jeep needs to fix this issue! In November 2021, upon smelling gasoline in my garage I discovered fuel leaking from the left rear side of the vehicle. I brought the car to the Van Chevrolet dealer in Scottsdale, AZ who claimed that no recall or extended warranty was available for the vehicle. In October 2016, I received a notice
... from Chevrolet that my car could develop cracks in the fuel tank and to NOT take it to a dealer until the crack manifested itself. The notice Enclosure 16009 is already posted on NHTSA: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2016/MC-10130604-9999.pdf The dealer advised that the notice had expired and I need to cover the repair out of pocket. This is a blatant safety issue with leaking fuel and the car is undrivable and is a danger to me and others. No warning lamps or messages appeared prior to the failure.Read more

REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY PER GM'S SERVICE BULLETIN NO: 13384 "SUMMARY: THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY IN CERTAIN 2014 CHEVROLET CORVETTES WERE SHIPPED WITH IMPROPER FLUID LEVELS. OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITHOUT SUFFICIENT FLUID IN THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY COULD PRODUCE A LOUD WHINE AND/O
... R GEAR OR BEARING NOISE." THESE VEHICLES WERE THEN TOPPED OFF WITH FLUID AND SOME STILL HAD NOISES PRESENT REQUIRING DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLIES TO BE REPLACED HOWEVER THE ISSUE PERSISTS. DEALERS AND THE MANUFACTER WERE TELLING CUSTOMERS THE "WARBLE" SOUND THEY HEAR IS JUST DUE TO ENGINE NOISE/VIBRATION AND THE CYLINDER DEACTIVATION. NOW THAT VEHICLES ARE OUT OF WARRANTY THE ISSUE IS THAT DIFFERENTIALS INTERNALS ARE BEYOND REPAIR AND NEED REPLACING. GM HAS CHOOSEN NOT TO ISSUE A STANDARD RECALL, EVEN THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED 2014 MODELS WERE NOTIFIED, HANDLED AT DEALERS, AND PUT A STOP SALE ON VEHICLES FOR THE ISSUE BUT THEY ENDED THAT PROGRAM 11/30/2015. VEHICLES THAT EXPERIENCE THE ISSUE WILL COMMONLY HAVE A WARNING INDICATOR SAYING "SERVICE REAR AXLE" OR "REAR AXLE SYSTEM OFF" POP UP INDICATING WHERE THE ISSUE IS. COMMON CHECKS INCLUDE FLUID LEVEL, BATTERY CONNECTION, CONTROLLER/SENSOR PLUG CONNECTIONS AND MORE. VEHICLES THAT EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE CAN LOSE ABILITY TO CONTROL THEIR VEHICLE AT SPEED OR HAVE THEIR DRIVE AXLES LOCK UP WHILE MOVING CAUSING INJURIES, FATALITIES, AND MORE AVOIDABLE DAMAGESRead more

INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM AND RADIO DISPLAY HAS INTERMITTENT FLICKERING OR ROLLING SCREEN WHILE CAR IS MOVING OR STATIONARY. ... THAT MAKES BACKING UP DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS. THIS STARTED IN OCTOBER 2018 AND HASN'T DISAPPEARED. GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THE PROBLEM SINCE NOV. 2013 (#PIC5934 AND P1-1318NHTSA#10056464). I CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS ABOUT THE PROBLEM ONLY TO GET A RUN AROUND OF DIFFERENT CUSTOMER SERVICE REPS AND DIFFERENT SERVICE REQUEST NUMBERS, BUT NO ACTION. THEY NEVER RETURN THEIR PHONE CALLS. THEY CLAIM THAT THEY GIVE COST ASSISTANCE, BUT ONLY AFTER I PAY A DEALERSHIP TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM, WHICH I DID. TO REPLACE THE SYSTEM COSTS $1335. THEY BARELY OFFERED ANY COST ASSISTANCE EVEN THOUGH I OWN 2 GM VEHICLES, HAVE THEM SERVICED AT GM DEALERSHIPS, IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WHERE MOST PEOPLE DRIVE FOREIGN VEHICLES. THE FOREIGN CARS THAT I HAVE OWNED IN THE PAST STAND BY THEIR VEHICLES. I FEEL GM SHOULD DO THE SAME ESPECIALLY IF THEY WANT TO COMPETE IN THE CROWDED SO. CAL. MARKET. GM SEEMS TO BE ABANDONING THEIR DUTY OF NOT ISSUING A RECALL EVEN THOUGH THERE HAS BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP THAT I TAKE MY VEHICLE TO IN THOUSAND OAKS, CA CLAIMS THAT THEY HAVE HAD 7 INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM COMPLAINTS (AND REPLACEMENTS) AND THAT'S JUST ONE DEALERSHIP OUT OF HUNDRED OF THOUSANDS OF DEALERSHIPS ACROSS THE US AND THEREFORE HUNDRED OF THOUSANDS COMPLAINTS. COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ARE ALL OVER THE INTERNET. IT'S A PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND I NEED HELP. I HAVE A VIDEO OF MY FLICKERING SCREEN AND WOULD LIKE TO EMAIL IT. Simultaneous Loss of Low-Beam Headlights
On May 14, 2014, General Motors (GM) submitted a Part 573 defect information report initiating NHTSA Safety Recall 14V-251 to remedy the subject vehicles.GM will remedy a defect condition in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) by modifying the vehicle's electrical harnessing.GM also announ
... ced a customer satisfaction bulletin to address this issue on model year (MY) 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvettes. Both programs will be conducted free of charge.According to GM, when the engine heats up and cools down (from normal use), the plastic material in the UBEC housing expands at a different rate than an electrical conductor routed within it.The difference in expansion rates results in bending of the conductor, a control circuit for the low beam headlights. After multiple thermal cycles, often taking several years of use, the conductor fractures resulting in an open circuit. When this occurs the low-beam headlights will not illuminate. After the engine is turned off and the UBEC cools, the conductor may temporarily reconnect and restore low-beam function, although subsequent failures will occur. This condition does not affect high-beam headlights, marker lamps, turn signals or fog lamps.Simultaneous loss of low-beam headlights could reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. The ODI report counts noted above, involving the loss of low beam headlights, represents those received at the time of GM's recall filing; however NHTSA has since received additional complaints.GM submitted similar complaints in response to the agency's information request.Among the complaints reported to NHTSA, five alleged minor crashes in which the vehicle ran off the road or into roadside objects due to the sudden loss of headlights. Two of these complaints alleged minor injuries and three alleged property damage.Several other reports to NHTSA alleged close calls due to the loss of lighting.GM states that it has received no reports of crashes, injuries or fatalities as a result of this condition. GM's recall action appears to adequately address the safety risks in the subject vehicles of concern to ODI.Accordingly, the investigation is closed. In addition to recalling the subject vehicles, GM is covering MY 2008-2013 Corvettes, which contain essentially the same UBEC, under a customer satisfaction campaign.ODI notes that these vehicles exhibit a lower likelihood of failure due to their comparatively shorter service life. Loss of Low Beam Headlights
The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this investigation based on 30 reports from consumers alleging that, after driving for a short time (5 to 30 minutes), both low beam headlights stopped working simultaneously and without warning. The low beam headlights remained inoperative for the re
... mainder of the drive cycle, however no other lighting is affected.General Motors (GM) provided information in response to ODI's information request letter explaining that the loss of headlights is caused by a fractured low beam circuit wire in the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC), a device that is similar to a fuse box. The UBEC is located in a high heat area near the engine, and the low beam circuit wire routing within the UBEC makes it susceptible to cyclical stress caused by thermal expansion. The investigation covers model years 2005-2007 Corvettes however ODI also has received four VOQs alleging the same condition in model year 2008 Corvettes. ODI is upgrading the investigation to an Engineering Analysis to further examine the consequences, frequency and scope of this problem. The ODI reports cited above can be reviewed at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchNHTSAID under the following identification (ODI) numbers. For MY 2005-2007: 10400308, 10415603, 10415867, 10416531, 10421639, 10424391, 10424543, 10445971, 10451733, 10454919, 10460674, 10460750, 10463546, 10466342, 10466857, 10468128, 10469057, 10470616, 10471595, 10474350, 10474368, 10475257, 10486597, 10491670, 10496592, 10496788, 10498100, 10502059, 10505606, 10508507, 10510052, 10511467, 10511517, 10511576, 10511696, 10511699, 10511789, 10511837, 10511994, 10512072, 10512093, 10512154, 10512292, 10512341, 10513422, 10514802, 10514978, 10515162, 10515311, 10515821, 10519426, 10519879, 10520155, 10521036, 10521585, 10522260, 10523064, 10523190, 10525646, 10531602, 10531631, 10532439, 10533227, 10533251, 10533339For MY 2008: 10512856, 10514576, 10523059, 10532221Read more

Fuel Tank Leak
In its June 30, 2010 response to ODI's Information Request letter, General Motors (GM) identified the leak source as cracks in either the fuel tank cross-over tube quick connector (connector) and/or the hot-plate weld joint of the connector to the tank. The root causes are attributed to errors in con
... nector material processing, variations in the welding process, and high stresses placed on the driver's side connector during vehicle use.GM also identified the scope of the subject vehicles involved to be those produced from approximately October 22, 2003 through March 19, 2004.GM does not believe the cracks represent an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety based on factors that include; low rate of fuel leaking to the ground, detectable fuel odor, the cracks are at the top of the tank, leaks are detectable during refueling, small quantities of fuel that leaks out, and no associated property damage or personal injury claims. On August 13, 2010, GM issued a Special Coverage Adjustment to remedy fuel tank quick connector leaks and extend the warranty for this issue to 10 years or 100,000 miles in certain 2004 Chevrolet Corvette and Cadillac XLR vehicles.Vehicle owners will be notified by mail of the adjustment and will also be entitled to reimbursement for previously paid repairs covered under the adjustment.(See file for, SERVICE BULLETIN 10150: SPECIAL COVERAGE ADJUSTMENT-FUEL TANK QUICK CONNECTOR LEAK).The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.Read more

Electronic Stability Control
On April 26, 2010, at NHTSA's request following this investigation, General Motors submitted a Defect Information Report to NHTSA to correct a defect associated with the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) system in approximately 40,000 Model Year (MY) 2005 and 2006 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles (NHTSA Re
... call No. 10V-172).According to the report, these vehicles may have a problem with the Steering Wheel Position Sensor (SWPS) connector created by a fretting condition in the connector (small movement of the pins back and forth creating a residue build up) which could change the electrical resistance and corrupt the information signal to the VSC computer. The VSC system uses the information from the SWPS to calculate the driver's intended vehicle direction; this information is cross referenced to sensors that tell the system which direction the vehicle is actually going and the system will, if it determines a variance indicating the vehicle is in a over-steer or under-steer condition, reduce throttle control and apply braking to make a correction in vehicle direction towards what the system believes is the driver's intended path.GM dealers will inspect the SWPS connector of recalled vehicles and, if necessary, install a terminal position assurance clip to the connector.GM has advised NHTSA that its position is that the inappropriate activations of the VSC system do not present an unreasonable risk to safety because GM believes that the activations are low in occurrence, a rare set of conditions would need to be present, the driver has the ability to maintain direction control if the alleged condition were to occur, and that there are no reports of injuries.NHTSA does not agree.Based on interviews with complainants and testing performed at the NHTSA Vehicle Research and Testing Center in East Liberty, Ohio, ODI believes that the majority of the unwarranted activations of the VSC system occur when turning, in such scenarios as travelling highway entrance or exit ramps or in street traffic conditions.Complainants report the effect produced by the malfunction of the VSC system is sudden unexpected braking and in some cases a sudden unexpected change in vehicle direction which some complainants indicate was sufficient to cause a movement into an adjoining lane of traffic or in some cases into curbing or stationary objects.During the VSC event the brake lights of the Corvette are not illuminated, depriving trailing traffic from indication that braking is occurring and some complainants indicate the braking effect can be severe and last up to 10 seconds in length.Based on available information ODI counts four crashes due to a malfunction of the VSC system; GM is counting one crash due to the problem. In these circumstances NHTSA believes the defect presents an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety, and so advised GM when requesting this recall. This investigation is closed based on GM's recall.Read more

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL MALFUNCTION
ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2008, ODI OPENED PRELIMINARY EVALUATION PE08-056 TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGATIONS OF INAPPROPRIATE ACTIVATION OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SYSTEM IN MODEL YEAR (MY) 2005 AND 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE VEHICLES.SOME REPORTS RECEIVED BY ODI AND SOME REPORTS TO GENERAL MOTORS (GM)

GM ISSUED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN IN JANUARY 2006, LATER REVISED IN OCTOBER 2007 (BULLETIN NO. 06-02-35-002B) CONCERNING ESC PROBLEMS IN MY 2005 AND 2006 CHEVROLET CORVETTE VEHICLES WITH THE TELESCOPING STEERING WHEEL OPTION.THE BULLETIN WAS INTENDED TO CORRECT A FRETTING CORROSION PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING WHEEL POSITION SENSOR CONNECTOR C202. AN ENGINEERING ANALYSIS HAS BEEN OPENED (EA09-002) TO CONTINUE TO ASSES THE SCOPE, FREQUENCY, AND SAFETY-RELATED CONSEQUENCES OF THE ALLEGED DEFECT.Read more

STEERING COLUMN LOCKUP
IN 2001, GENERAL MOTORS (GM) ISSUED CUSTOMER SERVICE CAMPAIGNS 1044 AND 1044A TO ADDRESS A CONDITION WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD FAIL TO UNLOCK DURING THE INITIAL KEY-IN AND START-UP IN CERTAIN MY 1998-2000 CORVETTE VEHICLES.HOWEVER, ODI CONTINUED TO RECEIVE COMPLAINTS CONCERNING STEERING COLUMN
... LOCKUP ON CORVETTE VEHICLES.AS A RESULT, PE02-054 WAS OPENED AND LATER UPGRADED TO EA02-031 FOR MY 1997-2001 SUBJECT VEHICLES.ODI'S ANALYSIS IDENTIFIED CONCERNS WITH POST-REPAIR FAILURES IN VEHICLES SERVICED THROUGH THE CAMPAIGNS, AS WELL AS, FAILURES IN MY 1997-2003 SUBJECT VEHICLES NOT INCLUDED IN THE CAMPAIGNS.(NOTE: THE MANUFACTURER FAILURE DATA ABOVE IS LIMITED TO MY 1997-2003 VEHICLES THROUGH 10/17/2003.)ON FEBRUARY 6, 2004, GM NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A SAFETY DEFECT IN MY 1997-2004 CORVETTE VEHCLES EQUIPPED WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND MY 1997-2000 CORVETTE VEHICLES WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS.THE NOTIFICATION STATED THAT IF THE VOLTAGE AT THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM), WHICH WAS DESIGNED TO SHUT DOWN THE FUEL SUPPLY WHEN THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED TO UNLOCK AND THE CUSTOMER TRIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, IS LOW OR INTERRUPTED, THE FUEL SHUT OFF MAY NOT OCCUR.AS A RESULT, THE CUSTOMER COULD DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS LOCKED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE STEERING CONTROL AND POSSIBLY CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.GM WILL INSTRUCT OWNERS TO BRING THEIR VEHICLES TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE PCM REPROGRAMMED FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES AND THE ELECTRIC COLUMN LOCK DISABLED FOR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION VEHICLES.ODI WILL MONITOR THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE REMEDY IN THE MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES AND TAKE FURTHER ACTION IF WARRANTED.Read more

FRONT LAP BELT MALFUNCTION
ODI OPENED THIS EA00-009 ON MARCH 16, 2000, TO CONTINUE ANALYSES BEGUN UNDER PRELIMINARY EVALUATION PE99-076.THE ALLEGED DEFECT: LAP BELT WEBBING IN BOTH SEATING POSITIONS TENDS TO FOLD OVER WHILE ENTERING THE RETRACTOR OPENING.THESE FOLDS FREQUENTLY IMPEDE PROPER WEBBING RETRACTION.IF THE RETRACTOR
... HAS BEEN INADVERTENTLY TOGGLED INTO AUTOMATIC LOCK RETRACTOR (ALR) MODE BY BEING EXTENDED TO ITS FULL LENGTH, IT MAY FAIL TO RESET ITSELF TO THE NORMAL EMERGENCY LOCK RETRACTOR (ELR) MODE.SUCH A CONDITION HAS BEEN SHOWN TO RENDER THE ACTIVE RESTRAINT UNUSABLE.CONCLUSION: GM WILL REMEDY THE ALLEGED DEFECT IN 71,569 SUBJECT VEHICLES BUILT PRIOR TO AUGUST 1999 BY ADDING WEBBING GUIDE INSERTS TO THE LAP RETRACTOR OPENINGS OF BOTH SEATING POSITIONS TO PREVENT THE ADMISSION OF FOLDED WEBBING ONTO THE RETRACTOR SPOOL.THIS ENGINEERING ANALYSIS HAS BEEN CLOSED.Read more

ENGINE WIRING HARNESS ROUTING
THIS CONDITION POSES NO SAFETY-RELATED CONSEQUENCE IF THE IDENTIFIED WIRING HARNESS WERE TO CONTACT THE EXHAUST SHIELD.ONLY ONE MONTH OF PRODUCTION WAS INVOLVED IN THIS CAMPAIGN.THE SUBJECT WIRING HARNESS CONTAINS THE GROUND WIRES FOR THE ENGINE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR, O2 SENSOR, KNOCK SENSOR, AND T
... HE OIL LEVEL SENSOR.ALL SENSORS INVOLVED OPERATE AT A VERY LOW VOLTAGE (LESS THAN 1 V).THE ONLY REPORTED ADVERSE EFFECT IF THE HARNESS WERE TO CONTACT THE EXHAUSE SHIELD, WOULD BE THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ERRATIC DASH GAUGE MOVEMENT.THIS SQ IS CLOSED.Read more
