2011 CHEVROLET CORVETTE Recalls, Complaints & Safety

My 2011 Grand Sport Corvette fuel system was repaired on 2/14/22 at no cost to me by special policy 15682-03. Now, 4 years later, the same problem has occurred again. I notice fuel smell in my garage with the tank nearly full after fill-up, and upon inspection, I notice evidence of fuel leaking along the side of the primary tank behind the driver's seat which is the same problem encountered before. GM tells me no additional help for repair is not forthcoming due to the age of the vehicle. My originating dealer has first quoted me $4000.00 and later quoted me $3400.00 to repair the car. I am reluctant to discard my Corvette which remains in excellent condition otherwise. I am currently filling the car 2/3 full so I can continue using and enjoying it without wasting fuel or creating a dangerous vapor condition in my garage.

Fuel pump feeder is known to be a major issues on these cars. These should be a safety recall with no explanation. Feeder fitting tends to crack overtime. Recently purchased and wasn’t aware of that previous recall which the previous owner didn’t handle.

Fuel is leaking from the top of the driver side fuel sending unit. This is a know issue on these cars and should be fixed under a recall. This is a very dangerous issue.

I bought a 2011 Grand Sport Corvette and if I fill the tank over half full the gas smell is unbearable. Some one needs to recall these cars. This issue is very serious. Fuel leaks out the top of the tanks, and will then drip down the back side onto the hot exhaust. If ignored this could result in a fire and possible death. If parked overnight in a garage, the vapor will fill the garage and could easily be triggered into an explosion and fire from a gas water heater or other ignition source.

Fuel pump elbow at top of driver side tank cracks and allows fuel to leak out of plastic piece. Many have the same issue and all we got was a very temporary fuel pump recall. Engine light is on

My entire garage is filled with gas fumes after I filled my car up to full yesterday. I drive my car once every 2 weeks and this is filling my garage with fumes. There are no visible leaks, there is a technical service bulletin regarding a gas tank issue that expired. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? UNKNOWN, the vehicle is available for inspection. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I could smell gas fumes from inside my garage door. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? It will be tomorrow. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Not yet. Haven't got that far. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Appeared today, drove for 2 hours each direction yesterday after a 75% tank fill.

Driving and service active control system can on feel like brakes locked up, very scary.

Same fuel smell issue as what GM kinda covered with Bulletin #[XXX] However that is a 10 year / 120,000 miles limit. I'm under the miles but over on time. Just purchased the vehicle (was told "there are no recalls" because they were allow to all it a "Special Warranty Adjustment". Of course the previous owner didn't get this addressed ... nor WOULD they if the smell started later. So ... still a fire hazard ... even the fix offered is replacing plastic parts with same plastic parts and crossing fingers. Dealers are quoting over 16 hours ALONE for a fix pushing costs to over $3000. And this can reoccur in the future when that plastic also fails. Metal fittings for fuel ... seems like a better choice costing only a few dollars more. Please do something for us chumps that bought the unfixed cars used. At least require dealer to fully inform buyers. "We didn't test for it because we would have to drop the tank with requires removal of exhaust, transmission etc" which is I'm sure more than 1/2 the labor of the fix minus parts. Gasoline drips out under the car after fill up. About 1/2 quart comes out and makes a puddle about 5 foot in diameter. Happens after every fill up. I turned in a NTHTSA complaint about fuel vapor smells after fill up on 9/6/2020 but heard nothing back. The problem has obviously progressed to leaking liquid gasoline on the ground.

There is a smell of fuel when you get in the car. Looked online and seen several people having the same issue seems to happen when you have more than a half tank of gas. See small drip after sitting under car at front of drivers side rear wheel

Fuel tank is leaking, strong fumes in my garage, I have to park outside, is this a recall? I've heard so many fuel leaking problems with the C6 Corvette

The airbag light stays on due to the connectors under the seats dragging on the carpet when the seats are moved forward or back

Strong odor of gas fumes in driver compartment, seems to eminate from driver side. Plastic flange on top of fuel pump is cracked and spews gas to surrounding area. Smell is constant regardless of fuel level. GM has been aware of problem for years but has yet to issue recall. They did issue temporary special coverage adjustment not adequate for earlier model years where issue was systemic. Yes my car is available for inspection. This is health and safety issue which should warrant a recall. Fire hazard as well. No warning lamps appear on dash.

I recently purchased a 2011 Chevy Corvette Grand Sport from a dealer in South Florida named Greico Chevrolet in Del Rey Beach. It was purchased used and as is from this dealer, but this appears to be a quite dangerous problem. I smell gasoline on the drivers side wheel well most of the time and sometimes the smell seeps through the car into the cabin. This is not from overfilling the tank (which I do not do anyway). I researched this issue and it appears to be an issue with two GM cars. See this statement and let me know if I have a claim: "GM Special coverage adjustment 15682 update July 2016 .Condition Some 2007 to 2009 model year Cadillac XLR and 2007 to 2013 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles may have a condition where a fuel odor is detected, fuel droplets appear below the left-hand fuel tank with fuel gauge level above 1/2, or a malfunction indicator lamp illuminates due to a leak path in the left-hand fuel pump module flange. Special Coverage Adjustment This special coverage covers the condition described above for a period of 10 years or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, from the date the vehicle was originally placed in service, regardless of ownership. For vehicles covered by Vehicle Service Contracts, all eligible claims with repair orders on or after July 25, 2016, are covered by this special coverage and must be submitted using the labor operation codes provided with this bulletin. I purchased this 2011 corvette on December 31st, 2021. I drove it home and parked it in the garage. The next day I smelled gas but couldn’t find any leaks. Yesterday I had the car on a lift and changed the transmission filter and fluid. While I was underneath it, I noticed liquid streaks on the left fuel tank and possibly on the right tank also. Today I googled corvette C6 gas leaks and found all the information on the problems regarding plastic on fuel pumps cracking or seals failing. I am sure that my car is having the same problem. It sounds like GM sent owners letters (possibly in 2017) which stated they would extend the warranty for 20 years or 120,000 miles. Many owners stated that their cars were over the time limit or miles when they received the letter. I feel GM should recall these cars since a fuel leak has to be the most dangerous item out there. I worry that my house could burn down or it starts on fire while I drive it.

Air bag light in dashboard seemingly randomly turns on and off while driving and is usually on indicating an issue with the air bag system. To begin with the light was only intermittently on but over time it has reversed and now the light only turns off intermittently.

The engine light continues to come on, with the code for emissions leak. changed the gas-cap, put in Catalatic Converter Cleaner, but did not get rid of the constant code. have been shutting the code off with help from the parts store. The car only has 31,000 miles, the system shouldn't be throwing an emissions code.

The fuel component on this vehicle is the concern. The fuel vapor is very strong inside the car and especially outside around the driver's side. When parked in the garage, the fuel smell would seep into the house. I am afraid to park it inside the garage due to strong fuel vapor coming out of the vehicle. I am afraid that the strong fuel vapor might ignite due to other power sources inside the garage. This issue is well known in the Corvette community, on Corvette Forum. I have scheduled to bring it into a Chevy dealership on 6/8/21 for an inspection and repair. There is no drivability issue with vehicle. It starts and drives fine, just the fuel smell that is overwhelming. There is no sign on fuel leaks on the floor. There is no warning lamps, nothing that would indicate a fuel system issue. The car only has less than 19k miles as of this writing.

Upon filling fuel tank and returning home and parking vehicle in garage, fuel smell and leak was confirmed on floor of garage. Vehicle was taken to a automotive center to have inspected and automotive center stated " fuel leaking when filling with fuel." Automotive center states "was able to inspect with an inspection camera and found that top of fuel tank is leaking at the fuel pump module seal to the tank. Also can see the vapor valve is wet from fuel as well. Recommend both pumps and evap valve." Concerned for safety of vehicle when driving and parked.

I AM A ONE-TIME OWNER OF A 2011 CORVETTE GRAND SPORT VEHICLE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT FOLLOWING A FILLING OF THE GAS TANK TO FULL, A SIGNIFICANT AND PERSISTENT GASOLINE SMELL APPEARS IN MY GARAGE. I EVENTUALLY BROUGHT MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 3, 2021 IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE. I WAS TOLD THAT A GAS LEAK WAS OBSERVED FROM THE TOP OF THE TANK. IN ADDITION, I WAS TOLD THAT THE EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF THE GAS TANK COULD NOT BE FOUND. I AM NOW VERY RELUCTANT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE.

I HAVE A 2011 CHEVROLET CORVETTE WITH ABOUT 34,000 MILES ON IT. THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFT LINKAGE CABLE HAS PLASTIC GROMMETS THAT CONNECT THE SHIFT HANDLE TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE PLASTIC GROMMETS BROKE DISABLING THE ABILITY TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK INTO ANY GEAR. I WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. MY CONCERN IS IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING YOU WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR.

I JUST BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE AND MY GARAGE NOW STINKS OF FUEL

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND HAS A P0442. I CAN SMELL FUEL AFTER LIGHT COMES ON MOSTLY AND LOWER SPEEDS (UNDER 10 MPH) AND ALWAYS AT A STOP. WHEN I FILL UP IT IS A DEFINITE UNDER BOTH CIRCUMSTANCES. I WAS POINTED TO A NEW GAS CAP. I'VE REPLACED 2 AND THE CODE CONTINUES TO RETURN AND THE SMELL OF FUEL IS OUTSTANDING AND SEEMS UNSAFE FOR THE POTENCY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 CHEVROLET CORVETTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND MAKING A SLIGHT LEFT TURN, THE BRAKES ERRONEOUSLY APPLIED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ABRUPTLY STOP. DURING THE FAILURE, THE MESSAGE SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM WAS DISPLAYED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER JIM TRENARY CHEVROLET (501 AUTO MALL DR, O'FALLON, MO 63368) AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.

GAS LEAKING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE TANK. TANK IS MORE THAN HALF FULL AND ODOR IS VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN PARKED IN GARAGE.

MY 2011 GRAND SPORT CORVETTE HAS A FUEL SMELL/LEAK ON THE DRIVER SIDE FUEL TANK. GM HAS ALREADY RECOGNIZED THIS DEFECT. I NEED THIS REPAIR MADE ON THIS DEFECT MADE AT GM'S EXPENSE.

THE FRONT RIGHT BRAKE HOSE THAT CONNECTS THE BRAKE 'HARD LINES' TO THE CALIPER FAILED. THE RUBBER PORTION SEPARATED FROM THE FITTING ON THE CALIPER CAUSING COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND ALL BRAKE FLUID DUMPED OUT ONTO THE GROUND AND INSIDE OF THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEED UNDER HARD BRAKE PRESSURE. MIRACULOUSLY, I WAS ABLE TO SWERVE AROUND OBSTACLES AND AVOID SERIOUS COLLISION. I'M LUCKY TO BE ALIVE TO WRITE THIS COMPLAINT. UPON REMOVING THE WHEEL, THE BRAKE HOSE WAS HANGING FREE OF THE CALIPER DRAINING WHAT WAS LEFT OF THE CONTENTS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM ON THE GROUND.

I HAD JUST PUT GAS IN THE CAR. PARKED IT AND LATER NOTICED A GAS FUEL ODOR IN MY GARAGE. AFTER RESEACHING IT ON LINE, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THERE IS A FUEL TANK ISSUE WITH THE CAR AND GM IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBLITY FOR IT.

I PURCHASED 2011 C6 CORVETTE. I HAD THE CORVETTE REPAIR BECAUSE I VERY BAD GAS SMELL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.. SO I TAKE IT TO CORVETTE MECHANIC. IT COST ME 4K TO FIX.. OUCH ..I BEEN LOOKING FOR RECALL ON THIS YEAR AND FOUND NOTHING.. I FOUND ON 06 CORVETTE. BUT THE SAMETHING IS HAPPEN ON THE 2011 C6 .. WHY? I CAN'T PLACE THE VETTE IN MY GARAGE BECAUSE THE SMELL WAS TOO BAD..

GEAR SHIFTER FAILED. STUCK IN DRIVE...HAD TO SHUT CAR OFF TO STOP MOTION AND AVOID COLLISION. OTHER REPORTS INDICATE NUMEROUS SIMILAR FAILURES ON LOW MILEAGE CORVETTES.

AFTER FILLING UP HAD FUEL SMELL IN GARAGE

DEAR SIR OR MADAM, I PURCHASED A USED 2011 CORVETTE A YEAR AGO. THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE NEAR THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL WELL WHEN THE TANK IS NEAR FULL. I FOUND THE RECALL INFORMATION ON A CORVETTE FORUM. THE LETTER SAYS THE RECALL IS GOOD FOR 10 YEARS FROM THE IN-SERVICE DATE WITH UNLIMITED MILEAGE. SO IT SHOULD STILL BE AVAILABLE FOR MY 2011 VEHICLE. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL SHOWING ON THE GM SYSTEM FOR MY CAR. CAR APPLIED RIGHT FRONT BRAKE ON THE STREET IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, CAUSING A SEVERE SWERVE INTO SHOULDER OF ROAD. THERE IS A KNOWN ACTIVE HANDLING FAULT ON THESE CARS. IT HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR TWICE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 3200 MILES ON IT. THERE IS A SERVICE ACTIVE HANDLING LIGHT ON THE DASH NOW. DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THERE WAS FIRE UNDER THE HOOD AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE FIRE EXTINGUISHED INDEPENDENTLY, ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO JEFF WYLER DIXIE CHEVROLET (5340 DIXIE HWY, LOUISVILLE, KY 40216) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A MISFIRE CYLINDER NUMBER 6 AND FRACTURED VALVE SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE COVER TO GO OVER THE SPRING WAS BURNT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTAKE GASKET UNDERNEATH THE MANIFOLD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ONCE AGAIN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THIS TIME WITH A MANIFOLD, THE COIL SPARK CORD AND MISFIRE CYLINDER 5 AND 6 NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE 37,015.

Fire

CAR HAS A VERY STRONG FUEL ODOR WHEN FILLING TANK OVER HALF FULL. THE FUEL GAUGE WILL SOMETIMES GO TO EMPTY PROMPTING A " SERVICE FUEL SYSTEM" MESSAGE ON DISPLAY SCREEN FOR 30-40 SECONDS, THEN GOES BACK TO PREVIOUS LEVEL READING. I'VE OWNED CAR FOR 4 YEARS, I REMEMBER GETTING A G.M. RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL ABOUT A FUEL SYSTEM RECALL SHORTLY AFTER BUYING IT, BUT I CAN'T FIND IT NOW.

I OWN A 2011 CORVETTE C6 AND IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS, I GET A STRONG SMELL OF GAS THAT IS CONSTANT. I HAVE READ THREADS ON THE CORVETTE FORMS AND FOUND THIS IS A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP AND IT LEAKS OUT AND COLLECTS INTO THE PAN THAT SUPPORTS THE GAS TANK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN START A FIRE ALONG WITH FUMES IN THE GARAGE AND SOMETIME GAS WATER HEATERS ARE LOCATED IN THE GARAGE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS IS NOT A RECALL.

AFTER REFUELING VEHICLE THERE ARE STRONG GAS FUMES IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING ME TO VENT THE CAR INTERIORS BY LOWERING THE WINDOWS AND APPLY THE A/C FANS ON HIGH........ ALSO THE CAR HORNS STOPPED WORKING WITHOUT REASON WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AND ALSO AFFECTED THE ALARM SYSTEM

SMELL OF GAS. MAINLY FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR WHEEL. MOST NOTICEABLE WHILE PARK BUT NOTICEABLE WHILE DRIVING AS WELL.

WHILE DRIVING OVER 30 MPH THE CAR WILL BRAKE AND THE DIGITAL INFORMATION CENTER WILL SHOW "ACTIVE HANDLING SYSTEM" AND VEHICLE IS NOT DRIVEABLE AND IS A SAFETY RISK
