Please consider opening or expanding an investigation into frame, underbody, brake-line, and suspension-mount corrosion affecting Toyota FJ Cruisers. I own a 2013 Toyota FJ Cruiser 4WD. A professional inspection found multiple fluid leaks, heavy rust, rusted exhaust, leaking rear shocks, and brake l
... ine/hose concerns. After reviewing the condition, the mechanic essentially declined to repair it and recommended scrapping the vehicle. The attached photos show conditions that appear safety-relevant: rust perforation through underbody structural metal near a bracket/crossmember area; severe corrosion around brake lines and fittings; widespread scaling near suspension and frame components; a leaking rear shock; and badly deteriorated exhaust connections. This is not just appearance rust. Also note the contrast between the observable condition of the vehicle versus the problems hidden beneath. This rust is clearly outpacing normal wear and tear. The safety risk is straightforward. At interstate speeds, a corroded brake line could fail during emergency braking. A weakened shock mount, suspension bracket, or crossmember could fail when the vehicle hits a pothole, uneven bridge plate, or highway debris. In dense, aggressive traffic, especially where vehicles travel 70+ mph, any sudden loss of braking, stability, or rear-end structural integrity could cause a spinout, rollover, or multi-vehicle crash. I understand Toyota has previously addressed severe corrosion on other truck platforms. I urge NHTSA to review whether the FJ Cruiser has a similar pattern of premature or excessive structural corrosion. Owners may not know the vehicle is unsafe until a mechanic refuses repair or a component fails. Please review consumer complaints, inspection photos, and corrosion-related failures before this becomes a fatal incident.Read more

A vehicle was taken to a collision repair facility following minor front-end damage. At intake, the repair facility documented visible exterior damage but did not perform or document an underbody inspection, which is necessary to assess high-voltage battery integrity in electric vehicles. After the
... vehicle entered teardown, the repair facility later claimed that the high-voltage battery was damaged and recommended that the vehicle be declared a total loss. This determination was made without documented evidence of required OEM diagnostic procedures and without initial intake documentation supporting battery damage. The sequence and timing of documentation raises concern that the battery damage determination was made after teardown rather than through proper inspection protocols. A subsequent manufacturer-level evaluation did not support the claim of battery damage. This situation presents a safety concern regarding whether proper high-voltage battery inspection and handling procedures are being followed by collision repair facilities. Misidentifying or improperly handling high-voltage battery conditions in electric vehicles can pose safety risks, including potential thermal events, improper classification of vehicle safety, or unsafe return to service. This complaint is submitted to request review of whether proper safety and OEM procedures were followed in evaluating the high-voltage battery, and whether this reflects a broader safety issue in electric vehicle collision repair practices.Read more

67,000 miles and broken rear right coil spring. Very serious issue as it can cause an accident while driving. No warnings or messages. Heard loud pop and rear right was sagging. Many other people with this model Q7 have had the same problem. A part like this should not be failing at 67,000 miles.

The vehicle show "low engine oil" warning every 3k-4k miles although I change engine oil and filter regularly.
Incident date: Dec 18, 2023
While driving, the oil warning light came on. I took the car to Firestone where they said the oil was very black, but it had been less than 3,000 miles since it was changed last. They changed the oil and the light went off, but after leaving, I made it barely a quarter of a mile when the engine ligh
... t came on and the car began jerking. I was able to continue driving at a very low speed to pull over safely. After parking, the car shut down and would not start back up. I had to get the car towed to the nearest Ford dealership. They diagnosed the car with an engine failure due to excessive metal debris found in the oil pan as well as in the valve train assembly. Apparently this is a known issue with the EcoSport that I was unaware of until this incident occurred. The fact that Ford knew this was an issue and took no steps to inform me or other consumers is a huge problem. Not only that, I should not have been made to pay for any repairs due to this known issue. It is clear that they went forward with production on this car with faulty parts, including the windshield wiper pump. I can definitely understand why they stopped producing this vehicle and honestly they should all be off the road at this point. I tried to upload the repair invoice, but every time I press the “upload” button, it just disappears.Read more

I had been driving for over an hour at 70 when I crossed into Pennsylvania and encountered crawl speed traffic. I exited the highway at exit 1. At the top of the ramp there is a traffic signal. I stopped at the red and the vehicle shut down. The light turned to green and the vehicle immediately in f

The engine auto stop-start kicked the engine but then the engine immediately cut off and the chimes went off. The car behind be stopped abruptly to avoid contact. Attempting to understand what occurred i looked at screen. The screen indicated to shift the vehicle into park. I did. The vehicle did nothing. Since there is no way to to start the engine without it, I was forced to turn the vehicle off using the On/Start/Off button. Hitting the button turned the car off, a second press would normally start the vehicle but it did not. I cycled the button 2 more times and the engine started. This system is flawed.Read more

While driving on the freeway at 70 mph, my car started sputtering and out of instinct I placed the gear into neutral. Shortly after doing that the car died while moving. I tried a rolling/moving restart on the car by placing it in 6th gear, hold the clutch in and restart the ignition with no luck. C
... oasted the car to the nearest freeway exit and into a parking lot. If the car would have died while still in gear, the outcome would’ve been catastrophic especially on a busy freeway. I was lucky enough that there wasn’t too many cars in the left lane. After trying to restart the car multiple times in the parking lot, I called for tow of the vehicle back to my resident then to a shop a couple days later. The car showed a Rev Match System and Emissions System Problem messages with a check engine light. The shop diagnostic showed a P0087 fault code which led them to troubleshoot the fuel system. We checked fuses and relay circuits, removed the back seat for fuel pump access, checked the fuel pump circuit and it had power and good ground. Connected the power back to the pump, turned the ignition on to hear the priming of the pump and there was none. Checked for fuel pressure to the engine and there was no pressure going to it. Shop told me there’s a safety recall for my year and model of the vehicle. I read the recall details online and verified my VIN on the Honda recall website and the NHTSA recall, my vehicle does not fall under the recall. The recall details specified what could happen to the vehicle and that happened to mine. I called and wrote Honda asking for an explanation why my VIN doesn’t have a recall but has the symptoms they described and I haven’t heard anything back. The replacement part and labor to include tow would be around $2000-$2500 from what I was told by the dealership and it would be an out of pocket expense for me.Read more

The steering becomes unusually notchy and stiff at mid to high speeds (~ >45 MPH). It is more noticeable when driving in a straight or nearly-straight line. I will try to make a minor adjustment to steering angle, and because it is so stiff, I will sometimes push too hard and over-correct. This can
... make driving in a straight line difficult for extended periods. This problem also seems to give the Lane Keep Assist some trouble remaining in the lines at highway speeds (although the problem also occurs with LKA off). The problem is inconsistent when trying to reproduce. Sometimes it will be present for several days, and then seems to go away for a few days, etc. I feel as if this could eventually cause a collision at high speeds if I'm driving with extra awareness or if the problem worsens. The car has 9,900 miles on it and I would say this problem has been noticeable for about the last 1,000 miles. The problem has not yet been investigated by a dealer. No warning lights or anything have appeared to indicate a problem. The problem is present across all driving modes (Normal, Sport, and Individual).Read more

My car burns oil at an insane rate. It uses 1qt of oil every 300 miles. Hyundai has been so unhelpful and wants me to spend nearly $1,000 (oil consumption test and combustion cleaning) to “hopefully” fix this issue. This issue began around 85000 miles.
Incident date: Mar 6, 2023
Engine failed, left us on the road. This engine is under class action lawsuit and recall. Took the car to the Hyundai dealer, they said it failed due to sludge that it wasn't serviced regularly, I produced proof of regular service then the claim was denied due to the lack of a knock sensor recall be
... ing performed. I never got a letter regarding the knock sensor recall and the previous owner had moved 3 times during the time they owned the car and had no recollection of getting a notice. So a knock sensor recognizes a knock but it locked up on the side of the road, knock sensor or not the motor would have been junk even if the knock sensor had detected the issue. Regardless the engine would have to be replaced. Also this engine is under recall for being a junk engine to begin with so why is Hyundai denying a claim on an engine that they clearly knew they had an issue with. I thought the point of a recall on an engine was to protect the consumer of future issues with the recalled component so why can they get out of doing what is required by law? Also if they can deny responsibility for a recalled item what is the point of having a recall?Read more

I found out that the toe link fractured due to corrosion and bent the passenger side trailing arm when it snapped. My warranty company will not cover the 1650 dollar repair due to corrosion, and the dealership will not cover the safety recall since my VIN is not listed under the recall notice. I pointed out that the General motors website motorsafety.org provides details on the "salt belt: area concerning this same issue. 2012 – 2013 Buick Regal 2013 Chevrolet Malibu 2010 – 2013 Buick Lacrosse Recall summary The recall concerns the toe links at the rear underside of the car, which hold the rear wheels straight. The toe links are coated to protect them from road debris and corrosion, but the supplier applied too much coating, paradoxically making the protective layer more likely to chip off. GM has issued the recall in specific states in the “Salt Belt,” where salt is used to de-ice roads in the winter. Without their protective coating, salt can corrode the metal toe links and cause them to break. The recall will include models that were sold or ever registered in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
