SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION OF ODI COMPLAINT NUMBER 11740201. I am submitting critical supplemental information to my active safety complaint regarding a 2018 Volkswagen Golf SportWagen (1.8T engine). My primary safety issues are a severe drop in fuel efficiency (cut completely in half), heavy vehic
... le hesitation/jerking during acceleration, and a powerful raw gasoline smell inside the cabin immediately after fueling. These symptoms heavily align with the known physical failures covered under Volkswagen's Suction Jet Pump safety campaigns. I took my vehicle to the Volkswagen dealership today for a diagnostic inspection. The service manager initially dismissed my complaints, refused to physically check the EVAP charcoal canister or suction pump, and claimed that my 50% drop in fuel economy was merely due to my 'driving style.' However, upon forcing me to pay a $136 diagnostic fee to retrieve my keys, the official paperwork provided by the dealership directly contradicted the manager. The technician documented finding a physical fuel leak. Alarmingly, this is the exact same 'small fuel leak' that this specific dealership claimed to have fully repaired a few months ago. That previous visit occurred because my steering wheel completely locked up while driving, nearly causing a severe accident—an issue the dealership also dismissed at the time because it 'failed to throw an error code.' The dealership has demonstrated a reckless pattern of ignoring severe mechanical safety hazards—including steering failures and active, recurring fuel leaks—solely because the vehicle's computer does not register a digital fault code. I am trapped driving a vehicle that is actively leaking fuel, smelling of raw gas inside the passenger cabin, and suffering from dangerous acceleration hesitation due to an unresolved fuel-system defect. I request a formal investigation into this ongoing safety hazard and the dealer's failure to remedy it.Read more

Took my car into VW in Johnson City TN because my millage has been dropping drastically. Went from about 420 miles to a tank, down to less than 300. There is hesitation and jerking when I accelerate as well as a gasoline odor in the cab of the vehicle after refueling. Service manager said there was
... no code thrown and when he took it for a drive her drove “conservatively” and the mpg was normal. They did not physically inspect the fuel pump jet and gaslit me saying it was how I’m driving. Refused to actually look at the problem and then threatened that if I wanted them to look they would charge me for the labor. They did not seem concerned that a safety hazard of smelling fuel in the cab and poor fuel efficiency was an issue.manager said he knew of the active extended recall but hid behind the no code from their scanner instead of listening to the customer who voiced concerns. They didn’t want to do the work if they had to pay for it.Read more

(The picture in the dark) The headlights would not turn on once again in evening in the Auto setting and I had to cycle the car off and on to get them working properly again. Once turned on the driver-side headlight is now a yellow color similar to a halogen light. (The picture in the daytime) Last week I went to warm up the car for 3-5 minutes and when I returned to the vehicle I noticed the driver-side headlight DRL was not Illuminated. I went into the vehicle and saw that there was an error message on the infotainment screen regarding the headlights. I cycled the car on and off and the vehicle went back to "normal" These issues happen on both headlights but is more persistent on the driver side headlight on my vehicle.I mentioned this on a Facebook group to ask if anyone has experienced this and many people are/did, unfortunately, experience this issue, even as far back as the 2015 Model years. Many people mentioned that they went to the dealership(s) and they would not cover the headlight under warranty as according to them it's impossible to have both headlights inoperable at the same time. I am lucky to have a good dealership to where to they actually are replacing the entire headlight assembly on the driverside. But i am worried even with a new headlight assembly, in a few years it will happen again. If this would have happened while driving at nighttime I would’ve not had any visibility whatsoever. THE INITIAL BREAK MUST HAVE OCCURRED EITHER AS IT WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT AT WORK, OR IMMEDIATELY AF
... TER BEGINNING TO DRIVE, AT NO MORE THAN 20MPH, BECAUSE I NOTICED IT ON THE DRIVEWAY LEADING AWAY FROM MY WORKPLACE. THE WEATHER WAS ABOUT 30 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT WITH NO PRECIPITATION AND THERE WAS NO ROAD DEBRIS INVOLVED. OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS, I TRIED TO LIMIT MY USE OF THE CAR (I SECURED A RENTAL CAR THROUGH MY INSURANCE FOR A FEW DAYS) BUT THE AREA OF BROKEN GLASS EXPANDED SIGNIFICANTLY ANYWAY. TO DATE, VW HAS NOT ACCEPTED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS BOUGHT NEW, I AM THE ONLY OWNER, AND IT ONLY HAD ABOUT 20,300 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THEY SUGGESTED I GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE FOR THE REPAIR. THE REPAIR IS IN PROGRESS BUT I AM TOLD BY THE GLASS SHOP THAT IS HANDLING IT THAT ONE OF THE TWO SUNROOF ACTUATORS ACTUALLY APPEARS DAMAGED BY THE FLEXING AND BREAKING OF THE GLASS AND THIS IS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO REMOVE THE ORIGINAL SUNROOF PANEL.Read more

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 VOLKSWAGEN GOLF. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO SUNTRUP VOLKSWAGEN (LOCATED AT 6000 S LINDBERGH BLVD, ST LOUIS, MO 63123, (314) 892-8200) FOUR TIMES, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILU
... RE. DIAGNOSTICS REVEALED A FAULTY VALVE, WHICH WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO ACCELERATE WHILE ON AN INCLINE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. *BF CONSUMER STATED VOLKSWAGEN IS UNDER NO OBLIGATION TO HONOT THEIR WARRANTY AS LONG AS THEY MAINTAIN THAT MY CAR IS OPERATING NORMALLY. AFTER CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN LONG ENOUGH TO BE COMPLETELY WARMED UP AND THEN PARKED, ON RE-ENTERING THE CAR AND BEFORE STARTING IT, THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE NOTICEABLE TO THE DRIVER AND FRONT-SEAT PASSENGER. ONCE THE ENGINE HAS BEEN STARTED AND THE VENTILATION FAN HAS RUN, THE ODOR DISSIPATES
... ; THE ODOR IS NOT COMING THROUGH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE DEALER'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOUND ONE ENGINE FUEL LINE CONNECTION WHICH APPEARED TO BE LEAKING AND REPLACED THAT FUEL LINE, BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM STARTING SHORTLY AFTER WE BOUGHT THE CAR IN JULY 2018.Read more

LESS THAN ONE YEAR INTO OWNERSHIP, THE CAR HAS EXPERIENCED A PANORAMIC SUNROOF LEAK ON BOTH THE DRIVERS SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AREA NEAR THE A-PILLAR AND THE SUNVISOR. THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE REPORTED INCIDENTS ALL OVER VARIOUS SOURCES ON THE INTERNET. THE SUNROOF, VISOR AND DOME LIGHT AREA
... IS EXACTLY THE SAME DESIGN AS THE 2018 TIGUAN THAT HAS NOW BEEN RECALLED DUE TO SUNROOF LEAKS CAUSING SHORT CIRCUITS ON THE DOME LIGHT THUS CAUSING A FIRE. THE FEAR WE HAVE IS THAT THIS IS A LOW VOLUME CAR SO IT'S NOT GETTING THE SAME EXPOSURE VS. THE TIGUAN WHICH IS A HIGH VOLUME CAR AND MANY MORE ARE ON THE ROAD. IN ADDITION, THIS FOLLOWS-UP ON SEVERAL COMPLAINTS MADE OF THE SAME ISSUE ON THE 2017 ALLTRACK MODEL.Read more

THE "FRONT ASSIST" SYSTEM ON A 2018 VW GOLF R IS PRONE TO MAKING UNSAFE ABRUPT STOPS IN TRAFFIC. IF A LEADING CAR MAKES AN ABRUPT STOP, THE FRONT ASSIST SYSTEM APPLIES INSTANT HEAVY BRAKING EVEN WHEN THE DRIVER IS ALREADY BRINGING THE CAR TO A SMOOTH STOP AT A SAFE DISTANCE. THIS DOUBLE-BRAKING
... RESULTS IN UNEXPECTED SKIDDING AND RISKS A REAR-END COLLISION WITH FOLLOWING CARS. THE MANUAL OVERRIDE TO FRONT ASSIST IS PRESSING HARD ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS ACTION CAN'T BE PERFORMED WHEN THE DRIVER IS ALREADY BRINGING THE CAR TO A STOP.Read more

OVER TIME, A BUILD-UP OF SILICATE ON THE SHIFT LEVER MICRO SWITCH CONTACTS CAN MAKE IT POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH WITHOUT THE SHIFT LEVER BEING IN THE "P" PARK POSITION. THIS MAKES THE VEHICLE NONCOMPLIANT WITH 49 CFR 571.114 STANDARD NO. 114 THEFT PROTECTION AND ROLLAWAY PR
... EVENTION. IF THE IGNITION KEY IS REMOVED WITHOUT THE SHIFT LEVER BEING IN THE "P" PARK POSITION, THERE IS A RISK THAT THE VEHICLE MAY ROLL AWAY, RESULTING IN A CRASH THAT COULD INJURE PEOPLE AND DAMAGE PROPERTY. I HAD TO BRAKE HARD AS THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME ON THE OFFRAMP STOPPED SHORT. I THINK SOMEONE CUT THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME OFF, OR PEOPLE WERE JUST HAVING TROUBLE MERGING. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DID NOT WORK, THE CAR FISH-TAILED FROM RIGHT TO LEFT. I LET UP ON THE BRAKES AND THE CAR STRAIGHTENED OUT
... AND I DIDN'T GET KILLED BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BAD ACCIDENT. THANKFULLY THE GUY BEHIND ME WAS ABLE TO STOP. THIS IS A CAR I BOUGHT LAST WEEK. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. EVEN MY 10 YEAR OLD CAR WOULD HAVE ACTIVATED ANTI-LOCK.Read more

AFTER RESTARTING HOT ENGINE AFTER A BRIEF STOP, CAR MIGHT STUMBLE DURING FIRST ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, FOR EXAMPLE TRYING TO ENTER TRAFFIC FROM A PARKING LOT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES AND HAS BEEN CAUSE FOR ALARM. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING BUT FEELS AS IF IT IS NOT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL TURBO LAG
... AND THE PROBLEM CLEARS AFTER THE FIRST INSTANCE. I REPORTED THIS TO THE DEALER AND THEIR RESPONSE IS THAT THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE AND THERE ARE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES SET.Read more
