STEERING Apr 1, 2026
I am reporting a severe steering safety defect on my 2022 Honda Civic that matches the symptoms of NHTSA Campaign Number 24V-744 and Honda TSB 23-037.At highway speeds (40–70 mph), the steering wheel "sticks" or "notches" in the center position. To make small lane adjustments, I must apply significant force to "break" the wheel loose. This causes the car to jerk or overcorrect, creating a high risk of a collision. Additionally, there is a metallic clicking/knocking noise coming from the steering rack during low-speed maneuvers.I have contacted Honda Corporate, but they denied a repair because my specific VIN has not yet been uploaded to the 24V-744 recall database, despite the vehicle exhibiting the exact manufacturing defect (swollen worm gear/high friction) described in the recall. The vehicle has approximately 62,000 miles and the issue has been persistent since 40,000 miles.I am requesting that NHTSA investigate why my production batch is excluded from the current recall despite having an identical steering gearbox failure that renders the vehicle unsafe to drive.

SEAT BELTS Mar 11, 2026
The contact's son owns a 2022 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while her son was driving at a moderate speed through city traffic, the vehicle drove over a pothole and the front and rear passenger’s side air bags deployed. The contact's son had not suffered any injuries; however, the front passenger’s side seat belt was damaged. Despite the air bag deployment, the vehicle was still drivable. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the contact was repeatedly informed by various employees that they could not guarantee that any repair performed to the air bags would fix the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The insurance company referred the contact to the NHTSA to file a complaint. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V064000 (Air Bags); and associated the failure with the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST Mar 3, 2026
Cruise control suddenly stopped working along with 5 warnings on dash which indicated to take vehicle to Dealer. This occured out of the blue, at 80,000 miles, with no prior indication of a problem and after a steering recall about months ago in August. Dealer says the power steering rack motor and plugs have melted. They claimed they had no idea how. Dealer wants approx. $10K to fix, wants me to replace the Steering rack and motor along with entire Wiring harness. this Assembly is about 3 inches from the muffler and a flimsy small heat guard. There are no signs of a fire, this is an overheating issue caused by poor engineering.
FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL Mar 3, 2026
Recall repair completed 6/13/2025 (steering related recall) A steering recall repair was completed on 6/13/20025 on my vehicle. The steering felt normal for approximately one week then began sticking again and has progressively worsened. The steering now binds and physically "grabs" 100% of the time. While navigating through curves, the steering wheel remains in the turned position and does not return smoothly to center. When attempting to correct, the steering overcorrects due to the binding sensation. This has resulted in at least two near-collision events. The vehicle is driven approximately 70 highway miles daily, creating a significant safety concern. No steering warning lights are illuminated. Additionally, adaptive cruise control also intermittently stops working while driving and will not re-engage until the ignition is turned off and restarted. When attempting to re-engage, the system emits three beeps and will not activate. The vehicle was evaluated at an authorized Honda dealership on 3/2/2026. The dealer stated they could not reproduce the steering or adaptive cruise control issue. A brake switch circuit code (C0041-14) and condensation in a taillight assembly were noted, and taillight replacement was suggested before further diagnosis. However, the steering binding continues during normal operation. An aftermarket lighting module (installed by a prior owner years ago) was noted. However, the vehicle has been serviced, and a 21-point inspection performed several times, of which revealed no issues with either the taillight or the installed lighting. The vehicle did have steering issues before the recall repair and had every symptom that was stated in the recall. After the repair there were no issues for at least a week, even with the aftermarket component being present, and then the malfunction returned and worsened as time went on. This condition poses a serious safety risk. The vehicle is available for inspection.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING Mar 3, 2026

SERVICE BRAKES Feb 27, 2026
The 2022 Honda Civic (Sport) with approx. 13,000 miles had been driving fine for the previous 10 minutes, on and off the highway, when I was almost home and on a more residential 25-30mph road. All of a sudden all of the warning lights went off on the dashboard at once, so I went to brake to slow down and pull over. But the brakes were completely failing - the pedal would just hit the back of the foot well. The emergency brake is electronic, so that wouldn't work either. I was lucky to be immediately next to a grocery store parking lot, so I roll into that. As soon as I make the turn flames began shooting out from under the hood, reaching maybe 6" up the windshield. This is only 5 or 6 seconds after the warning lights had started, and it was clear that the fire inside of the engine bay was substantial. I managed to coast to the back of the parking lot, away from other cars and people, and found a curb "island" that I could run into in order to stop the vehicle. I effectively crashed the car, and at this point the flames had increased. I ran out of the vehicle and shouted for people to call 911. Within a minute the entire front half of the car was engulfed in 10+ foot flames. The fire department showed up a minute later and put out the fire, and after only maybe 3 minutes maximum the only things left in the car were metal and wires. The dashboard was entirely gone, seats were just their metal frames, etc. If the door had been jammed I would have burned alive.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM Feb 16, 2026
The rearview camera automatically projects onto the center display when applying the brake. On the morning of 2/16, the center display was showing the rearview camera view my entire morning commute to work. It is likely an electrical issue (short). This impacts my safety because if I need to access anything on my main display I cannot do it if the car is automatically displaying the rearview camera view. This is very distracting while driving and if others are dealing with a similar issue, they could be too focused on trying to mess with the display and take their attention of driving circumstances. I have not yet taken the car to the dealer to get it looked at. The issue first started on 2/13/26. The vehicle is up to date on inspection but again I have not yet brought it in to the dealer to get it looked at. There are no warning lights or messages that appeared prior to failure.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER Feb 10, 2026
I reversing in my driveway, I heard a loud 'pop' from the front driver's side followed by a total loss of steering control. Upon inspection, a steering component (tie rod) appears to have snapped/failed. This vehicle is subject to NHTSA Recall #23V704000 for an incorrectly assembled steering rack that allows for excessive stroke length and contact with suspension components. I have not been in a recent accident; this was a spontaneous mechanical failure while maneuvering at low speed. Additionally, the authorized dealer (Norm Reeves Honda Cerritos) is refusing to perform the recall inspection without an upfront $190 diagnostic fee, obstructing the free remedy mandated by federal law.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM Jan 20, 2026
Civic developed a misfire. Diagnosis at the Honda service center revealed a leaking #2 fuel injector causing fuel wash-down into cylinder #2. This led to fouled & broken spark plugs in cylinders 2 and 3, blown head gasket, scored cylinder wall in cylinder #2, hairline crack in cylinder head and valve damage. Engine and head have been deemed unsalvageable by the Honda service center. Honda has indicated this vehicle will not be covered under TSB A18-025 and Warranty Extension 21-010 despite being the same engine family (L15B7/L15CA) used in 2016-2021 Civics that were completely covered.

STRUCTURE:BODY Jan 12, 2026
Prior to receiving official recall repair instructions, I experienced sudden and unexpected issues with the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system. These issues resulted in a loss of steering control, which caused my vehicle to become involved in an accident [XXX]. I waited for the recall and when i went in for my recall honda only added grease which stopped my steering to stick but the damage has been done, because for almost 2 years i drove the car with sticky steering wheel and i believe bec8of not enough grease in the rack it has damage the steering rack and im out of warranty like my other like me.

The vehicle experiences an intermittent engine and/or electrical system failure causing the car to losing acceleration while driving. The exact component has not been identified because the failure is intermittent. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The problem has not been duplicated by the dealership, and they have declined to repair the vehicle on that basis. However, the issue continues to occur intermittently despite being reported. The vehicle has been presented to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection. The manufacturer has not identified the cause due to the intermittent nature of the failure. No inspection has been performed by police or insurance representatives. There are no consistent warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. The vehicle looses acceleration suddenly and without warning. The problem first started about a month ago and most recently happened today when our car was almost rear ended due to the car loosing acceleration drastically on its own.

On Sunday, December 14, 2025, I was driving a 2022 Honda Civic Sport with my wife in the passenger seat when the vehicle’s driver-assist/steering system unexpectedly intervened and caused the vehicle to veer off the roadway and down a steep embankment (approximately 40–50 feet) without driver input. I attempted to correct the vehicle, but the vehicle failed to respond as expected. There was no intentional steering command to leave the roadway. The vehicle appeared to steer itself, resulting in a crash. Both occupants sustained injuries. I suffered a neck/collarbone injury and a concussion. My wife suffered a concussion, a large laceration to her outer right calf, and bruising. Medical treatment was required and was sought at urgent care. After the incident, warning indicators were present on the dashboard. I later became aware that this model year has known complaints and recalls related to steering, lane-assist, or driver-assist system malfunctions. These issues were not disclosed at the time the vehicle was purchased used from a dealership. This appears to be a serious safety defect that poses a risk of injury or death to drivers and passengers. The vehicle is currently unsafe to operate.

I was driving on a very busy road and the car completely died and would not go into park. It was like the battery was not even there. The steering wheel locked up, hazards would not come on and all the doors locked and would not unlock. There was no power to the car whatsoever. The drivers side door had to be pried open from the outside so I could get out of the car. We had the battery tested and is tested completely fine. The car has done this three times now.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V744000(Steering) was performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the recall repair was performed for a second time; however, the failure had worsened. The dealer was notified and recommended the steering rack replacement based on past experiences. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but declined to cover the steering rack replacement because it was not covered by the recall. The contact stated that the recall remedy had failed to correct the steering failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.

I have reported this to American Honda - My driver car lock has been not working properly since 2024. It will intermittently not work to unlock the driver's door. Also, it will intermittently not lock my car automatically when I leave the vehicle with the key fob. The first time I took the vehicle in - they replaced the front door power latch. Since then, I took it in on May 2025 - they said since the car does it intermittently, they cannot fix it. Well, I just took the car back today, 12/09/25 - and I am leaving it there until they can find out what is the problem. In a emergency, if I needed to open my driver's door, to avoid a dangerous situation, and could not, I would be harmed. I have taken videos, and showed the dealer to help identify the issue. American Honda said to take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. I would like my vehicle fixed or bought back from me.

IN NOVEMBER 2025 A BURNING SMELL WAS NOTICED WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH CLUTCH FAILURE. THE BURNING SMELL RETURNED WHEN THE DEALER WAS ASSESSING THE VEHICLETHE CAR IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED BUT I HAVE ASKED FOR THE PARTS TO BE KEPT FOR ME POST REPAIR. THE ISSUE PUTS OTHERS AT RISK DUE TO UNPREDICTABILITY IN SHIFTING ABILITY, POSSIBLE SMOKE/FLAMES DUE TO WEAR AND INABILITY TO PUT CAR INTO GEAR. A DEALER HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS CLUTCH FAILURE. NO ONE HAS INSPECTED THE PARTS OTHER THAN THE DEALER. THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS, MESSAGES, ETC UNTIL THE BURNING SMELL. THE DEALER HAS ATTRIBUTED THE CLUTCH FAILURE TO WEAR AND TEAR, HOWEVER THE CAR IS DRIVEN BY AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND HAS ONLY 44K MILES ON THE VEHICLE. A PREVIOUS SAFETY BULLETIN (HONDA TSB 22-017) WAS ISSUED THE SAME PROBLEM FOR VEHICLE YEARS 2020 AND 2021 BUT DID NOT INCLUDE 2022. THE MANUFACTURER HAS REFUSED TO INVESTIGATE WHETHER THIS COULD BE AN EXTENSION OF THAT SAFETY BULLETIN. AN ONLINE SEARCH INDICATED THAT THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED IN A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF VEHICLES OF THE SAME YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. T

STEERING Nov 24, 2025
After intermittently experiencing sticking of my steering wheel and creaking/grinding when turning the wheel, in April 2024 my vehicle’s rack & pinion recall was closed at Northside Honda (28,676 miles). In May 2024, I was provided a free oil change at the same dealership. I wasn’t informed of any failed recommendations or provided a copy of the multipoint inspection (29,328 miles). The sticky steering continued to be intermittent and I was unable to replicate it, specifically as cooler weather began. In February 2025, my vehicle’s steering gearbox recall was closed and corrective action was performed at Hill Country Honda due to my sticky steering noticeably occurring at highway speeds, making it difficult to return to center, specifically during a drive home from work that required significant effort to stay in my lane (38,957 miles). In October 2025, I scheduled another inspection, as the sticky steering had noticeably returned once more at highway speeds. It was then diagnosed by Hill Country Honda’s technician to be an internal failure of the gearbox with a recommendation of electric steering gearbox replacement (51,073 miles). After numerous attempts to inform Honda Corporate of my recent finding (fail recommendation “incorrectly assembled steering rack”) which Northside Honda never mentioned to me in 2024, neither Honda Corporate nor the dealership will take accountability. I’ve also noted that no comments were listed in the rack and pinion recall to indicate a concern/complaint, despite my description stated above. The dealership is continuing to state my car was not included in the recall though listed on my oil change visit after the recall was closed and they won’t cover 100% replacement regardless of this being incomplete warranty work from 2024. A new investigation NEEDS to be opened on this steering recall. Honda Corporate’s corrective action has not helped numerous people from what I’ve researched even with the replacement of a steering rack.
SEATS Nov 24, 2025
Since purchasing my vehicle in 2022, I’ve experienced my seat “click and unclick” after adjusting it as well as at random times when driving. As I’ve been reviewing recalls for my own year/make/model, I recently found that 2023-24 Hondas & Acuras were experiencing a similar issue and have had a recall for their seat frame bolt. However, I’m unsure if it’s due to the same reason, as I’ve not seen other related complaints for my own year/make/model.

The vehicle has 42,070 miles on it. It was being driven and suddenly the clutch started to slip. Then, when trying to pull away after a stop, the vehicle only was able to travel at 8 miles/hour in first gear. No messages were received before the clutch failed. Vehicle was towed to a local repair shop and we were given a quote to replace clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate. We then had it towed to a Honda repair center to seek assistance from Honda on the repair because the clutch failed at such low mileage and they diagnosed the cause as premature wear and tear. We know that a bulletin was put out in September 2022 regarding clutch failures with certain Honda Civic Sport models from 2020 and 2021, so we asked Honda for support. They declined because the 2022 model was not covered by the bulletin, even though our Honda had already been produced before that bulletin was released. We believe that our issue is related to the issues with the 2020 and 2021 models and have found that other 2022 and 2023 owners have experienced similar failures. We have included our request letter and escalation request, as well as the repair quote from Zeigler Honda Racine, WI.
