STEERING Mar 30, 2026
Steering is sticking at speeds over 30 mph when turning wheel left, have to kind of force wheel back to 12 o'clock position or else the car will keep turning. Driving on highways where little adjustments are needed while driving requires me to almost have to jerk the wheel to keep the car straight. This is unsafe and makes my car scary to drive. Started around 45k miles

The air conditioning system in my 2019 Honda Civic has experienced a total failure of the evaporator core due to a refrigerant leak. This follows previous documented failures of the AC condenser and compressor shaft seal, both of which are currently under Honda-issued 10-year warranty extensions. Various other users have also reported these issues with their 10th generation civics. The failure of the AC system prevents the defroster from effectively dehumidifying the cabin. During rain or high-humidity conditions, the interior of the windshield fogs up rapidly and cannot be cleared, severely obstructing my field of vision while driving. In high-temperature environments, the cabin temperatures reach dangerous levels within minutes. This poses a significant health risk for passengers, particularly children and the elderly, and causes driver fatigue/distraction due to heat exhaustion. Despite multiple repairs to other components in this specific R1234yf system, the system continues to fail. Honda has diagnosed a leaking evaporator core, a part known within the owner community to have the same manufacturing defects as the already-warrantied condenser and compressor. I am requesting an investigation into why the evaporator core was excluded from the current 10-year warranty extensions despite having the same failure mode as the condenser and compressor parts.
STEERING Mar 20, 2026
I got this car 2 months ago and it has 58k miles. The steering is “sticky” and keeps clicking and catching when making small adjustments or turning. It’s so annoying and is becoming dangerous as I’m having to force the wheel where it needs to go and it gets stuck. It’s terrible going around curves/ramps. I’m so upset, I can’t afford another car or to get this one fixed. I’m paying so much for a new car that’s already broken and from what I read, Honda doesn’t care to fix it. I pray that they honor a recall. I didn’t ask for this and it shouldn’t be happening on a new car.

The stirring wheel consistently sticks and jerks in speeds 35 and over. The steering wheel constantly has to be adjusted to drive in a lane. It is unsettling situation. While driving my 2019 Honda Civic , the steering wheel frequently sticks or feels like it slips when making slight adjustments or turning. This is especially noticeable at highway speeds and during low-speed turns. It requires additional force to correct the steering, leading to overcorrection and a delayed return to the center position. The issue creates a safety concern as it impairs precise vehicle control and is most concerning while making corrections at highway speeds. Multiple owners online are reporting the same symptoms, and there are indications that this may be caused by a faulty EPS gearbox or steering rack. When driving at highway speeds steering sticks. Steering wheel does not move without more effort than usual. Being unable to make small adjustments freely means I must constantly drive with two hands in order to drive straight forward. When I noticed this I searched Honda recalls and found the exact same issue is being recalled for later models. This is a safety related issue because it prevents me from centering the vehicle in the lane. The open recall repair (NHTSA 23V-858) has not been completed. Additionally, there is a separate open recall, NHTSA Recall Number 25E-071 (Manufacturer Recall MMZ), involving 18-inch Honda Genuine Accessory wheels with improperly installed lug seat inserts. Both recalls remain unresolved. Beginning in approximately 2024, the vehicle exhibited intermittent jerking and stalling during acceleration, along with loss of smooth power delivery. No warning lamps were illuminated prior to failure. The vehicle was inspected in July 2025 after Wilkes-Barre Honda declined to provide assistance, and it passed inspection at that time. In October 2025, the engine failed to start, and the vehicle became fully non-operational. The insurance carrier was notified in October 2025 that the vehicle had become inoperable. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, law enforcement, or the insurance company. It is currently available for inspection but is not safely drivable. Loss of power while driving presents a risk of collision. Multiple attempts were made to schedule an appointment with Wilkes-Barre Honda regarding the outstanding recall; however, no response was received. The manufacturer was also contacted on several occasions, but no meaningful assistance was provided. Despite repeated requests, the dealership has not conducted a formal inspection or confirmed the cause of the failure. The vehicle has remained inoperable for several months. Under these circumstances, asking me to arrange towing is not reasonable, as delays in addressing recalls have created additional practical barriers to accessing necessary transportation and resources. *Note: I've included a phone number for this complaint but do not have one. Additionally, lack of vehicle access due to unresolved recalls had already created practical barriers in obtaining one.

A couple of months or so ago...summertime maybe I started feeling a choppy feeling in the steering almost like lane correction was enable but it wasn't. I started seeing posting about sticky steering and that's what it feels like. It's mostly noticeable out on the highway but sometimes on 40 mph zones. I've emailed the dealer about it to see if it can be covered. Mine is a 2019 so it's not included in the recall for 2022-2024. I really hope I don't have to pay for this out of pocket.

While the vehicle is powered on, rapid or quick input to the steering wheel will cause sudden loss of power. The electrical system and engine will power off. I am experiencing issues with my infotainment screen and my window switches as a result of continued power loss. I am able to reproduce the problem any time I turn the steering wheel quickly. The vehicle has gone in for its state mandatory inspection at the dealer, but not for the steering. There is no warning light prior to the sudden power loss, but my car's electrical system has to re-initialize. The battery is brand new and does not show signs of low voltage while idle. The vehicle will power off while driving, reversing and in neutral.

Immediately after closing the trunk, the trunk lid torsion bar snapped. The trunk lid will no longer stay up and is very heavy to open. If this had happened when the trunk was open, it could have broken my neck. Honda is aware of this issue in vehicles from 2016-2020. There is a technical service bulletin (22-013) but no recall. I feel this is a physical safety hazard to anyone who owns these cars.
SERVICE BRAKES Oct 1, 2025
Noticed when braking, car veered to the right. The day before I dropped it off to the dealership to have it checked, the brakes felt weird a bit hard, and suddenly would not brake for few seconds (functioned again after) as I was approaching a roundabout. I dropped it off to the dealership and they confirmed an issue with the ABS Modulator. I am currently waiting for parts for it.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to file a complaint regarding an unresolved recall issue for my vehicle. Although the manufacturer’s service center has completed the recall repair, the repair has not been updated in the NHTSA system, and the vehicle still shows an open recall. This unresolved status is creating serious issues: The car cannot pass Vehicle Safety Systems (VSS) inspection. Registration cannot be completed for the buyer. The bank is holding funds from the sale until the recall is officially cleared. I have contacted both Honda corporate and the servicing dealership several times, but despite their assurances, the recall remains uncleared in the system. Vehicle Information: Year/Make/Model: 2019 Honda Civic VIN: [XXX] This delay is unreasonable, disruptive to my business operations, and unfair to the customer. I respectfully request NHTSA’s intervention to ensure that Honda updates the recall status promptly and accurately. Thank you for your assistance. I had gotten a new battery because one point after work, my car would not start. I then got installed a brand new battery, and it still wouldn’t turn on. The only things that turned on were the dashboard, but no noise coming from the front engine compartment. I tried turning it on after, but it wouldn’t start at all. I then got it towed to an auto shop and they installed a new starter. The new starter worked for a month before another incident in a Walmart parking lot where it would not start after turning the key multiple times. After a few times it started and I drove it again to the same auto shop. The auto shop had no trouble starting it, they turned it on and off several times without any fault. That was in July of 2025. Fast forward a few weeks later, there was two instances in which the car did the same thing, the engine was not turning on only the front dashboard lights. After the first try it turned on. Now on 8/22/2025 as I was driving on the highway going 75mph the car stopped decelerating. Pressing the gas pedal did nothing. It stopped completely, thankfully I was able to stop on the side of the highway but it was still a very dangerous situation had it been another time during the day. This time, the engine compartment, once the key was turned was simply making a noise but not starting or “turning over”. I lifted up the hood and noticed that when the key was inserted the engine compartment was shaking. I got it towed to the same auto shop awaiting the results. I looked up the symptoms for a faulty fuel state and my car is showing to have a lot of the same as it would be that.

The vehicle steering wheel feels stuck in position while driving, it releases the initial sticking feeling when I force the turn and it continues to feel stuck in place every time the steering doesn’t turn to either side and I try to turn again it requires extra force to release the stuck in place feeling. I took to dealership and asked if there was a recall and they told me only on newer models but not on my car model. The initial steering stuck in place causes delay when I need to steer quickly in traffic, I believe t’s a safety concern. My car only has 39137 miles on the odometer.

While driving my 2019 Honda Civic Sport, the steering wheel frequently sticks or feels like it slips when making slight adjustments or turning. Honda has not issued a recall, and dealerships have not provided a lasting fix.

My steering is "sticky" and is difficult to control. It's concerning for me and my passengers, as well as others on the road. I researched what "sticky" steering could mean, and I found Honda has an active recall for this exact issue; however, my 2019 isn't included. I visited a local Honda dealership (Tameron Honda in Birmingham, AL), and they confirmed that my vehicle needs an electric rack to fix my steering issue. However, American Honda will not replace it. Honda knows this is an issue but is refusing to take care of it, putting the safety of myself and all other drivers on the road at risk.

The steering on my 2019 Honda Civic has gotten progressively "sticky" when driving at all speeds but it is worse at highway speeds (50-75 mph). I have experienced several close calls lately when the steering wheel sticks when turning into a highway curve and causes my car to veer into the oncoming traffic lane. I took my vehicle into the local Honda dealer service department and they told me they would have to replace the entire steering gearbox at a cost of $4,250.00 due to a manufacturing defect. They said my car is out of warranty range at 54258 miles and there is no recall from Honda to pay the repair cost. I cannot afford that excessive cost and now am forced to drive an unsafe vehicle.

After 4 days, the fuel smell worsened and the "Check Engine" light had come on. On 6/11/25 I returned the vehicle to Honda North. When I picked up the vehicle several days later, the fuel odor was minimal, and the check engine light was off. Today [XXX], the check engine light is back on. I called the Maryland MVA who confirmed that my Title for my car is clean. American Honda has a recall on The Ac Shaft compressor and is refusing to replace it. I ended up passing out because it is 105 degrees here and the AC system is failing. They still will not service my car and they will not fix the safety issue.

When driving on the highway (over 40mph) the steering wheel sticks making small corrections difficult. It feels like once the steering wheel is left in an orientation for more than 1 second something grabs the steering column and holds it. I’m sure it’s supposed to be a “feature” but it causes me to have to put in effort to make the small driving corrections and they end up looking like I’m swerving inside my lane.

Continued to drive to a safe location roughly a mile down the road and while enroute all the error lights illuminated and proceeded to state "Tire Pressure Monitor Problem" "Brake System Problem" "Brake Hold System Problem" "Power Steering Problem" and a couple others I don't recall. I lost my power steering while driving and my wipers proceeded to stop working, in a downpour. Contacted AAA who came and ran diagnostics which showed the alternator was dead. I then had to have my vehicle towed instead of driving it to work.

Steering began to "stick", especially at highway speeds and when trying to keep car centered in lane, causing frequent overcorrection and difficulty maintaining lane control. No warning lights, messages, etc. Dealership confirmed and the diagnosis was that the motor powering electric power steering was faulty and steering rack needed to be replaced. First noticed the issue during summer of 2024, became progressively worse, dealership diagnosed and repaired in May 2025.
