AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2001-2002 Acura 3.2CL, 2000-2003 Acura 3.5RL, 2000-2001 Acura 3.2TL, Honda CR-V and Honda Odyssey, 2001-2002 Acura MDX and 2000 Accord Coupe, Accord Sedan, Civic Coupe, and Civic Sedan vehicles. These vehicles may have received a replacement driver frontal air bag module as part of a vehicle repair. Due to a manufacturing issue, the replacement NADI inflator may absorb moisture, causing the inflator to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the air bags in the vehicles, replacing the driver frontal air bag inflator with an inflator of a different design, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 1, 2020. Owners may contact American Honda's Customer Support & Campaign Center at 1-888-234-2138.

These vehicles were equipped with Non-Azide Driver air bag Inflators (NADI) and do not contain phase stabilized ammonium nitrate (PSAN) propellant. Due to a manufacturing issue, the NADI inflators may absorb moisture, causing the inflators to rupture or the air bag cushion to underinflate.
Remedy: Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver frontal air bag inflator, and replace it if necessary, with an inflator of a different design, free of charge. The contact owned a 2000 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving 45 MPH, another vehicle ran a stop sign. The contact turned to the right to avoid a crash but ended up crashing into the rear corner of another vehicle. The vehicle also ended up striking the embankment on the side of the road. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the lower back and sought medical attention. The other vehicle was damaged. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the Insurance provider for assistance. A case was opened regarding the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Unknown SRS alarm appears, dealer confirmed 1-1, 1-2 error code meaning driver airbag issue. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 20V026000 RECALL DATE: 2020-01-21 Mentioned active airbag recall for 2000 Honda Civic. Tried looking on NHTSA site and Honda site for free repair but nothing showed up. I am concerned that the driver airbag is not safe.

On October 16, 2021, my wife drove the car on the way home, then there was a sudden sound (like a huge fan) and a rough vibration from the engine. The battery light turned on. Then she had a hard time steering the wheel. It was really stiff. She made very wide turns, occupying multiple spaces and lanes. She can't totally control the car. When we arrived home, we popped the hood and found out that all the 3 belts in the engine were off. We just called our insurance today Oct 17 to have it towed to our mechanic. This car passed state inspection last Aug 2022 and we were able to take off 1 belt which seems to be in good condition. We also had 1 belt replaced last 2020.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT A RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V027000 (AIR BAGS) AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR THE REPAIR AT ROBERTSON'S PALMDALE HONDA, 455 AUTO VISTA DR, PALMDALE, CA 93551, WHERE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS COMPLETED. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, AND WAS VEERING OFF TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND WHEN MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE CONTACT TRIED TO CORRECT HERSELF, THE WHEEL TURNED TO THE LEFT AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE AND WAS WRAPPING AROUND THE POLE. HONDA SENT ME A LETTER IN THE MAIL TELLING ME MY CAR'S DRIVER AIRBAG MAY NOT BE WORKING CORRECTLY. THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T HAVE PARTS TO REPAIR IT YET AND THAT THEY WOULD REACH OUT WHEN THEY HAD THEM. THAT WAS IN MARCH AND NOW IT'S AUGUST. IT'S ALMOST A HALF YEAR NOW THAT I'VE BEEN DRIVING A CAR THAT MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE A WORKING AIR BAG IN IT. I EMAILED THEM AND ASKED IF THEY WOULD PROVIDE ME WITH A FREE (SAFE) LOANER VEHICLE UNTIL THEY COULD FIX MY UNSAFE VEHICLE. THEY CALLED ME ON THE PHONE TODAY, MARCH 24, 2020 (1-888-234-2138) AND SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE A LOANER VEHICLE, AND THAT THEY WERE SORRY, BUT THE REPAIR OF MY VEHICLE MIGHT TAKE ANOTHER YEAR FROM TODAY. THE PASSENGER SIDE LOW BEAMS ON THE CAR DO NOT WORK EVEN THOUGH THE HIGH BEAMS WILL WORK. IT SEEMS SOMEWHAT SIMILAR TO WHAT HAPPENS TO THE 2001 & 2002 HONDA CIVICS. I WOULD LIKE HONDA TO FIX, BUT THEY TELL ME MY VIN IS NOT AFFECTED BUT MY MAKE MODEL AND YEAR ARE,NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 02V120000, AND MY CAR HAS THE SYMPTOMS OF AN IGNITION PROBLEM. ALSO THE IGNITION SWITCH IS ROUGH AND SOMETIMES THE KEY JAMS. NOTE THAT IT COULD BE THAT ITS PAST 15 YEARS SINCE THE RECALL NOTICE WENT OUT, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED THE NOTICE. I FEEL THEY ARE LIABLE FOR THIS REPAIR, I NEVER GOT. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL AND HOPE FOR A REIMBURSEMENT AS WAS SUGGESTED BY THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. ANYTHING YOU CAN DO TO COMPEL THEM TO FIX IT, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON 02/25/18 EXITING THE FREEWAY AND COMING TO A STOP.

BASED ON AN INTERNET SEARCH THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM, DUE TO POOR CIRCUIT BOARD SOLDERING, IN CIVICS OVER THE YEARS WITH SAME CIRCUIT BOARD.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT WAS ALWAYS DIFFICULT TO LATCH AND UNLATCH THE SHOULDER STRAP TO THE LATCH ATTACHED TO THE HEADREST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING MANUFACTURED IN CANADA, THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CANADIAN MANUFACTURER STATED THAT DUE TO THE VEHICLE BEING REGISTERED IN THE U.S., THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,022.
