Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2006-2020 Freightliner Columbia, 2006-2021 Freightliner Business Class M2, 2007-2020 Freightliner Coronado, 2014-2021 Freightliner 122 SD, 2007 Sterling A 9500, 2006 Freightliner Argosy, 2006-2007 Sterling AT9500, 2008-2021 Freightliner Cascadia, 2006-2008 Freightliner Classic, 2006-2011 Freightliner Century Class, 2006-2010 Freightliner FLD, and 2017 Western Star 5700 vehicles. The rear reflective tape may be partially covered by the mudflap hanger bracket, which may reduce the vehicle's visibility to other drivers on the road. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and reposition the reflective tape to ensure that it is completely visible, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began May 29, 2020. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL848.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2002-2017 Freightliner Cascadia, Century Class, Columbia and Coronado trucks and Western Star 4700, 4900, 5700, 5900 and 6900 trucks. These vehicles are equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers that may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on April 11, 2018. Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Freightliner Cascadia trucks manufactured March 26, 2007, to August 31, 2010. Water may leak into the Signal-detection and Activation Module (SAM) Chassis causing corrosion which may result in electrical shorts or possible intermittent operation of trailer lights.
Remedy: DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the SAM chassis for corrosion, replacing it as necessary. Any vehicle that does not have a drip shield mounted in the cab over the SAM chassis will receive one. These repairs will be performed free of charge. An interim letter was sent to owners on May 4, 2015. The recall began on October 8, 2015. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-745-8000. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-679.

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (Daimler) is recalling certain model year 2008-2015 Freightliner 114SD, Cascadia, M2 Business Class, Sterling LT8500, and Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner HDX vehicles manufactured February 19, 2008, through February 11, 2014, and equipped with Cummins Westport Model ISL G and Cummins Westport Model ISX12 G engines. Condensation in the intake manifold may freeze during cold weather conditions and interfere with the proper operation of the intake manifold pressure sensor.
Remedy: Cummins and Cummins Westport will notify owners, and authorized Cummins service facilities will upload a new ECM calibration, free of charge. The recall began on April 12, 2014. The air tank mounting brackets may develop cracks which can lead to the air tank brackets separating from the frame rail. The air tanks may also separate from the vehicle.

THE PUMP TO RAIL HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE SUPPORT SYSTEM USED ON THESE ENGINES IS SENSITIVE TO ASSEMBLY TORQUE AND MAY BE DAMAGED DURING SERVICE WORK. AS A RESULT OF OTHER REPAIRS, THE LINE SUPPORTS MAY LOOSEN, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO FUEL LINE CRACKING AND A FUEL LEAK.

THE LOWER PINION BEARING MAY CORRODE AND FAIL. A FAILED BEARING MAY LEAD TO DAMAGE OF THE SPOOL VALVE SEALS. A DAMAGE SPOOL VALVE SEAL MAY ALLOW HYDRAULIC FLUID TO FLOW TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT TURN PORT INSTEAD OF FLOWING TO THE RETURN PORT.
Remedy: DAIMLER TRUCKS WILL INSPECT THE LOWER BEARING FOR CORROSION. IF CORROSION IS FOUND, THE RACK AND PINION SYSTEM WILL BE REPLACED. IF NO CORROSION IS FOUND, ON THE BEARING, THE BEARING WILL BE PACKED WITH GREASE AND THE RUBBER BELLOWS WILL BE REPLACED WITH SEALANT ADDED BETWEEN THE BELLOWS AND THE RACK HOUSING. I AM AN INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR TO CR ENGLAND. WHILE SOUTHBOUND ON I-77 TOLL ROAD 000.2 MILES SSW OF GALLAGHER WV APPROX. 20:54:00HRS I SMELLED HEAVY EXHAUST GASSES WHEN PAUSED BACK AT THE TOLL BOOTH. I ATTRIBUTED THIS TO A VEHICLE IN FRONT THAT WAS OUT OF TUNE AND CONTINUED SOUTH. THE ODOR DID NOT GO AWAY SO I PULLED OVER TO THE HARD SHOULDER TO INVESTIGATE. AS I MOVED INTO THE SHOULDER THE DASH LIGHTS LIT UP AND FLASHED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND OPENED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR TO CHECK THE CRACKLING NOISE COMING FROM BEHIND THE FIREWALL. SMOKE AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM BENEATH THE BODY BETWEEN THE DRIVER SIDE FUEL TANK AND DOOR. I IMMEDIATELY CLOSED THE DOOR, SHOUTED TO MY SLEEPING STUDENT TO GET OUT WE ARE ON FIRE. HE BEGAN TO GATHER HIS THINGS BUT I TOLD HIM TO GET OUT NOW WHICH HE DID IN HIS UNDERWEAR AND A BLANKET. I FOLLOWED HIM OUT THE PASSENGER DOOR, PAUSED AND REACHED IN TO GET MY PHONE. I LOOKED UP AND SAW BILLOWING BLACK SMOKE FILLING THE TOP OF THE CAB SPACE AND DESCENDING DOWN RAPIDLY. WE WALKED TO THE END OF THE 53 FT TRAILER AND 10 MORE FEET ON THE PASSENGER FUEL TANK EXPLODED AND THE REST OF BOTH VEHICLES QUICKLY WERE ENGULFED AND LOST. NO BODY COULD EXPLAIN WHY THIS HAPPENED UNTIL I BECAME AWARE OF THE RECALL 12C (?), APRIL 2013, ON THE FUEL FEED ASSEMBLY FROM THE FUEL PUMP THROUGH TO THE INJECTORS VIA THE INDIVIDUAL INJECTOR LINES. I ASSUME THAT THESE WERE OVER-TIGHTENED EITHER IN ASSEMBLY IN SALTILLO, MX OR, IN SERVICE OR OTHERWISE AT COMPANY SHOP OR DURING CONTRACT SERVICE. IT APPEARS THAT A LEAK IN THE WINDSHIELD HAS CAUSED THE COMPUTER/ELECTRONICS TO GO HAYWIRE WHILE DRIVING IN A RAIN STORM. WIPERS WOULD STOP WORKING, ENGINE SHUT DOWN LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND OFF, WINDSHIELD WASHERS JUST STARTED SHOOTING FLUID ONTO THE WINDSHIELD, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND DIDN'T GO OFF. SEVERAL OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS STOPPED WORKING. THE COMPUTER AND FUSE BLOCK WAS REPLACED. PRIOR TO THE MAJOR PROBLEMS THEY TRIED TO REPAIR THE LEAK 4 TIMES. THE 5TH TIME THEY THOUGHT THEY FOUND THE LEAK IN A MARKER LIGHT ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD HOWEVER THAT MAY HAVE BEEN JUST ANOTHER LEAK BECAUSE THE LEAK IS STILL THERE AFTER DRIVING IN A STORM YESTERDAY. *TR

I HAVE A 2009 FREIGHTLINER CASCADIA EQUIPPED WITH AIR DISC BRAKES, WHEN THE TRUCK WAS APPROX. 6 WEEKS OLD A BRAKE ASSEMBLY DID NOT RELEASE PROPERLY AND CAUGHT FIRE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. TRUCK IS NOW A YEAR OLD AND A SECOND BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAS CAUGHT FIRE FOR NO REASON. *TR

ADDENDUM ODI 10281432: I MADE A COMPLAINT ABOUT DEFECTIVE RACK AND PINIONS ON FREIGHTLINER 2009 "CASCADIA" MODELS ON AUG. 23, 2009. ON AUG. 24, 2009 ONE WAS OVERNIGHTED AT THE BEHEST OF FREIGHTLINER TO MY LEASED TO COMPANY C. R. ENGLAND, INC. WHO HAD PREVIOUSLY PURCHASED ALL AVAILABLE RACK AND PINIONS OFF THE MARKET TO "QUIETLY/ SECRETLY" REPAIR IT'S FLEET. ON AUG. 31, 2009 NHTSA BEGAN AN OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION AND C.R. ENGLAND, INC, WITH FREIGHTLINER'S HELP ISSUED IT'S OWN RECALL OF THE DEFECTIVE RACK AND PINIONS THAT SAME DATE. ON SEP. 2, 2009 I WAS Q-COMMED BY MY DM FOR CRE TO CALL HIM ASAP. I DID SO AND HE INFORMED ME THAT MY NEW RACK AND PINION WAS ALSO DEFECTIVE AND HAD TO BE REPAIRED AND TO HAVE IT DONE IN BURNS HARBOR, IN SOME 998 MILES AWAY! I WAS JUST A MILE AWAY FROM FREIGHTLINER DEALERSHIP IN CHEYENNE, WY AND HAD THE REPAIRS DONE THEIR AND I HAVE FAXED THAT PROOF TO NHTSA. ON SEP 4, 2009 CRE RETALIATED AGAINST ME BY ASSIGNING A LOAD OF SOME 850 MILES THAT DELIVERED ON SEP. 9, 2009. I WAS ALREADY DOWN SOME THREE WEEKS WAITING FOR A RACK AND PINION, WITH FIXED COSTS OF LEASE AT $762.50 PER WEEK, AND A SHORT WEEK FROM THE FRIDAY BEFORE AND NOW ANOTHER SHORT WEEK FROM POCATELLO, ID TO BURNS, HARBOR, IN AND THIS "RETALIATION" LOAD THAT WOULD NOT BE ADDED TO THE NEXT WEEKS PAY EITHER - WEEK ENDS AT MIDNIGHT ON TUESDAY!!!! IN OTHER WORDS MY FAMILY WOULD NEVER BE ALLOWED TO EAT AGAIN WITH A SUBSTANTIALLY REDUCED CONTRACT TO BE FORCED INTO EFFECT ON SEPTEMBER 21, 2009 BY CRE ON ALL OF ITS IC'S! (TRUCKING) I LEASED A 2009 FREIGHTLINER, WHICH HAS A DEFECTIVE RACK AND PINION STEERING AS HAVE DOZENS/ HUNDREDS OF OTHERS OF THE SAME MODEL THIS YEAR! WHY HASN'T THIS MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT BEEN FORMALLY RECALLED? IS IT BECAUSE ALL OF THE DRIVERS HAVE REPORTED THE INTENSE LOSS OF FRONT TIRE RUBBER AND THE DEFECTS THUS FAR HAVE BEEN FORTUNATELY REPORTED AND REPAIRED WITHOUT A MASSIVE ROAD ACCIDENT THAT MIGHT CLAIM HUNDREDS/ THOUSANDS OF LIVES IF CARRYING HAZARDOUS MATERIALS? LOSS OF STEERING WOULD BE ABOUT THE WORST THING THAT A FULLY LOADED TRACTOR COULD HAVE GO WRONG OTHER THAN BRAKES FAILING IN A SUBURB SETTING. IN ADDITION, NO RACK AND PINIONS ARE AVAILABLE TO REPLACE MINE ANYWHERE, ACCORDING TO MY DEALERSHIP LOCATED ON DANIEL PAYNE DRIVE IN B'HAM, AL., BECAUSE OF THE NUMEROUS ONES ALREADY REPLACED HAS COMPLETELY DEPLETED THE AVAILABLE STOCK! IT APPEARS THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY TRUCK DOES NOT WORK WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS, WIPERS OR FLASHERS ARE ON. THERE ARE NO WARNINGS, NOTICES, STICKERS OR DOCUMENTATION THAT CAME WITH THE TRUCK ADVISING THAT THIS WOULD OCCUR. IT'S MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE INCORPORATED INTO ALL NEW FREIGHTLINER TRUCKS BUT THEY NEGLECT TO TELL YOU BEFORE OR AFTER GETTING ONE. 2 OCCURRENCES WHEN I WAS TAKEN BY SURPRISE THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING WHEN USING THE FLASHERS AND WIPERS. FIRST: THIS CRUISE CONTROL ISSUE ALMOST GOT ME KILLED WHEN I WENT TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANOTHER DRIVER WHO FLASHED HIS LIGHTS TO LET ME BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE AFTER PASSING HIM. I USED THE FOUR WAY FLASHER TO THANK HIM HOWEVER WHEN I DID THE TRUCKS CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AND THE ENGINE BRAKE SLOWED ME DOWN AND THE DRIVER THAT HAD JUST LET ME IN FRONT OF HIM ALMOST RAN INTO THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. SECOND: IT OCCURRED AGAIN WHEN AFTER A SNOW STORM AND THE ROADS WERE DRY BUT SNOW HAD BEEN MELTING SO THERE WERE SPOTS ON THE ROADWAY THAT WERE WET AND WHEN A VEHICLE PASSED ME WATER WOULD SPLASH UP ON THE WINDSHIELD AND I USED THE WIPER TO CLEAR UP THE WINDSHIELD AND AGAIN THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AND AGAIN I SLOWED DOWN ALTHOUGH THIS TIME THERE WAS NO ONE THAT CLOSE BEHIND ME. BUT IT DID TAKE ME BY SURPRISE AND I LOST MY CONCENTRATION OF DRIVING TRYING TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPEN. *TR
