FORD IS RECALLING 225,000 MY 1992-2003 ECONOLINE, MY 1993-1995 TAURUS SHO, MY 1992-1998 CROWN VICTORIA, MY 1993 BRONCO, F-SERIES, MY 1995-1997 F-SERIES SUPER DUTY STRIPPED CHASSIS, MY 1992-1998 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS, AND MY 1992-1995 LINCOLN TOWN CAR VEHICLES. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WERE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED USING A WIRING HARNESS THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE CIRCUIT POLARITY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW WIRING HARNESS, OR REPLACE THE MATING ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS. OWNERS OF THE PASSENGER CARS INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO RETURN THEIR VEHICLES TO THEIR DEALERS TO HAVE THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH DISCONNECTED AS AN INTERIM REPAIR. Remedy: FORD IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR POTENTIAL FUEL CROSS-FLOW TO 12 YEARS OF SERVICE OR 150,000 MILES FROM THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY START DATE, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. THIS COVER WILL AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFER TO SUBSEQUENT OWNERS AT NO CHARGE. IF A VEHICLE ALREADY HAS MORE THAN 150,000 MILES, THIS OVERAGE WILL LAST UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2001. THE CARBON STEEL FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR IN THE FUEL SYSTEM CAN WEAR OUT DURING THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR MALFUNCTIONS, IT CAN CAUSE HIGH FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE, WHICH DAMAGES THE FUEL PUMP CHECK VALVE. THIS ALLOWS FUEL TO BE TRANSFERRED FROM ONE TANK TO THE OTHER, POSSIBLY OVERFILLING THE NON-OPERATING TANK, RESULTING IN FUEL OVERFLOW PAST THE FILLER CAP.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL HAVE A STAINLESS STEEL FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR INSTALLED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JULY 9, 2001. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIRE TREADS WERE SEPARATING FROM THE TIRES AND THE TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE AT THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE OTHER THREE TIRES BLEW OUT. THE TIRES WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE TIRES WERE NOT ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. MY FORD F350 CREWCAB CAUGHT ON FIRE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I AM JUST NOW FINDING OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE BECAUSE OF SPONTANEOUS FIRES ON MY YEAR AND MODEL. I SPENT ALMOST $3000.00 ON REPAIRS AND HAVE BEEN HAVING ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE QUITTING WHILE DRIVING. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE IS ANY REMEDY THAT I CAN OBTAIN FROM FORD. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THIS TRUCK FOR OVER 2 YEARS BECAUSE OF THE ENGINE QUITTING AND THEN A NO START SITUATION. VEHICLE WILL START AFTER IT COOLS DOWN BUT WILL STOP WITHIN A HALF HOUR.THIS IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE THIS IS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND I HAVE LOST USE OF THE TRUCK AND HAD TO STOP WORKING BECAUSE I AM A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTOR AND NEEDED IT TO WORK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD F350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM WAS INEFFECTIVE. THE PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE AND CAUSES IT TO ROLL FREELY. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS AND THEY REPLACED THE BRAKE CABLES TWICE AT THE COST OF $300 EACH. WHEN THE FAILURE RESURFACED, THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 94V169001 (PARKING BRAKE:CONVENTIONAL) AND WAS INFORMED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 202,000.

WE OWN A 1993 FORD F350. IT WAS PARKED IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE ATTACHED GARAGE. IT WAS NOT RUNNING. MY HUSBAND WENT OUTSIDE AND WALKED BETWEEN THE TRUCK AND GARAGE. HE SMELLED SMOKE, LOOKED TOWARD THE PICKUP AND SAW SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. HE QUICKLY RAISED THE HOOD AND PUT THE FIRE OUT. OUR CRUISE CONTROL HAD NOT BEEN WORKING FOR SOME TIME. MY HUSBAND PURCHASED THE SWITCH FROM CANTON MOTORS AND REPLACED IT. THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKED AGAIN, FOR AWHILE. IT HAS NOT CAUGHT ON FIRE AGAIN, YET BUT I'M AFRAID WE HAVE ANOTHER DEFECTIVE SWITCH. FORD HAS A RECALL ON 1993 PICKUPS NOW FOR THAT PROBLEM BUT WHEN I CHECKED OUR VIN, IT STATES THERE IS NO RECALL ON IT. I BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD REIMBURSE US FOR THE SWITCH WE PURCHASED AND REPLACE IT. THE FIRST SWITCH IS POSSIBLY AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT ONE IS STILL ON THE PICKUP. I TALKED TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM BUT NO HELP WAS OFFERED AND THE LADY WAS RATHER RUDE. I DO NOT REMEMBER THE DATE OF THE FIRE. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK NOW. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE IN NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE LEFT INNER DUALLY TIRE TREAD SEPARATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO PULL OVER WITHOUT INCIDENT. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, THE CARCASS OF THE TIRE REMAINED INFLATED, YET THE TREAD WAS COMPLETELY SEPARATED. SERPENTINE BELT DETACHES FROM TENSION PULLEY AND/OR IDLER PULLEY. DETACHED BELT CAUSES DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES, RADIATOR LINES, AND BREAKS IDLER PULLEY FROM BRACKET. POWER STEERING AND BRAKING ARE LOST MAKING VEHICLE VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. FLYING IDLER PULLEY MAY CAUSE ADDITIONAL DAMAGE AND/OR FALLS TO ROADWAY AS HAZARD. DAMAGE TO TRANSMISSION LINES MAY CAUSE FIRE. CAUSED BY UNEVEN WEAR TO THE PLASTIC BELT TENSIONER PULLEY. PLASTIC PULLEY DEFORMS IN SUCH A MANNER THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT TRAVELS FORWARD (TOWARD FAN) AND OFF OF PULLEY. A SIMILAR DEFECT (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 96I003000) WAS REMEDIED WITH A VOLUNTARY RECALL BY FORD IN 1996. THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED TO THAT STANDARD. THE STANDARD APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN INADEQUATE. *AK

CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER, PUSH ROD PLASTIC EXTENSION FRACTURED AND BROKE WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF GEAR AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP FORWARD MOTION UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS STOPPED. WITH FURTHER INSPECTION OF THE COMPONENT I WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THAT WEAR AND LUBRICATIONS WILL CAUSE THIS FAILURE. AN ENTIRE ALL METAL UNIT SHOULD REPLACE THIS COMPONENT. AT THAT TIME, THE INSPECTOR BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT 4 OF THE SIX TIRES HAD CRACKING IN THE AREA WHERE TREAD SEPARATION WOULD NORMALLY OCCUR. I USE THIS VEHICLE NORMALLY TO PULL MY FIFTH WHEEL RECREATION VEHICLE. OBVIOUSLY, THE TIRE CRACKING GAVE ME MUCH CONCERN. TODAY, 10/10/200, I HAD ALL FIRESTONE TIRES REPLACED.
