The fuel pump failed and self destructed internal parts of the pump in turn putting metal into the fuel lines resulting in a $15,000 repair bill. The vehicle is available for inspection and has not been repaired. This occurred in November 2024 and has not been driven since due to the costly repair bill. The problem has been confirmed by the dealership and independent service center. The only indication of the issue was when the check engine light illuminated. No other preemptive warning.

Within a span of 30 min. I experienced 3 uncontrollable steering oscillations also known as the "death wobble." The DW experienced, the speeds were around 50 miles per hour. Less than that, the aforementioned oscillations were not experienced. Reason for the 30 min time frame was due to making it back home from the first occurrence. First oscillation was on smooth road, the other two were on less than smooth roads.

While traveling down the highway at the speed limit, the truck hit a bump and started to shake violently. I slowed down and pulled over to resecure a freezer that was shook loose. We continued on and when I went to make the next right turn, one of the straps, which was sliced during the death wobble, snapped. The freezer slid and seesawed over a cooler. The corner of the freezer came through the rear window striking my wife in the arm and head. I have brought the truck to multiple shops, replaced steering stabilizer, shock, and tires to no avail.

I own a 2011 Ford F-350 Lariat Dually truck and was driving down the highway at approximately 60 mph, when I hit a bump in the road and all of a sudden my truck started to shake violently. I didn't know what happened as this was the first time this has ever happened. I thought something happened with the rear wheels on my truck. I was shaken up, scared and had to stop on the side of a busy road to see what it was. I looked around the truck and didn't see anything and was unaware of the famous "Death Wobble" that are notorious on F-250 & F-350 Ford trucks. I then returned to the highway with my flashers on and drive, but at a lot slower speed because I was unsure of what caused the shake. I was able to make it home safely and I told my husband about it. He wanted to see if it would happen to him so he took it for a spin and it happened to him 3 times in a 5 mile trip. Therefore he came home and parked the truck. We took it to Ford and they advised that this issue is common. Having a vehicle with this unwanted feature is a concern as we purchased this truck to run a business and now it just sits. Please put yourself in others shoes. Imagine you are traveling 70 mph down the interstate with a loaded trailer and you hit a bump or change lanes and the death wobble starts to happen. Would the driver be able to prevent a horrific accident from happening or cause one by trying to slow to an acceptable speed and sometimes completely stopping just to get the uncontrollable shaking to stop. This could cause a very bad outcome for the driver and possibly other unsuspecting drivers that are unaware of the issue / situation. This is not the situation any driver wants to be in on any highway. Please consider doing a recall on all Ford F-350's trucks so that this issue can be corrected and give owners peace of mind. Imagine if your family was traveling and this happened. I ask you, how would you handle this situation?

EQUIPMENT:RECREATIONAL VEHICLE/TRAILER Mar 31, 2023
Annual inspection of the Progress Manufacturing Equal-I-Zer (model number 90-02-1200) steel head assembly revealed cracks in the welds holding the two steel plates that support the spring bar sockets and the welds that attach the head component (part with the hitch ball) to the U-shaped bracket that attaches/bolts the head to the shank that is inserted into the receiver. I have pictures of the cracked welds. The assembly has been sent to a certified welding/fabrication shop for repair at my expense. If the welds failed, two scenarios are very likely: 1. The spring bars will separate from the head assembly, releasing two 20+ pound steel rods in an uncontrolled and unconstrained manner onto the pavement. Of the tow vehicle, trailer, or another car are struck by one or both rods, the result could be severe damage and/or injury. 2. If the welds holding the head assembly containing the hitch ball to the U-shaped bracket that is bolted to the shank failed, the entire hitch assembly and trailer would detach from the tow vehicle; the safety chains would provide the only mechanism to keep the trailer from detaching completely from the tow vehicle. Severe damage could occur to the trailer and tow vehicle. If the safety chains fail, the trailer would careen uncontrolled into other drivers on the road. A master welder and certified weld inspector looked at the pictures of the cracked welds and stated that "Lack of weld metal fusion, likely it was there when you bought it." I posted the pictures of my cracked welds on three FaceBook groups focused on RVing with approximately 300,000 members. Several members stated they, too, found cracks in their welds. The manufacturer was sent the pictures. They refused to stand behind their product and told me to buy a replacement head for $275.00. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. There may be a systemic welding problem at the PM factory.

Death Wobble in 2011 Ford 350 Super Duty double cab long bed. 1st time happened Oct 29th 2022 heading to Gail TX. Construction on road and went down a bump and it started then. 2nd time & 3rd time (Nov.2022) within a few minutes of each time, going down a road and hit bumps within a couple of miles of each other and did death wobble again. As I have a Down Syndrome daughter and a grandchild still in a back facing child seat, this death wobble is a definite safety issue in transporting them. I am currently waiting on a mechanic to look at it. Have not yet had time to take to Ford dealer in town closest to me.

The steering gets stiff all of a sudden. You have to pull it back when making a turn right or left. It happens intermittent. If you had to swerve to miss an animal or road obstruction you could be in a world of trouble. It seems to be happening more frequent now. Had a shop look at it but didn't act up. We will try again. I'm not they only one having this problem.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER May 3, 2022
My low mileage 2011 F350 has what has been called a "DEATH SHAKE". If while driving at highway speeds I hit a bump the wrong way the front wheels seem to go in non-parallel directions, causing the vehicle to bounce from side to side. During this time there is no control or steering possible. The goal is simply to hang on and not get thrown from the seat. (The bouncing from side to side has destroyed my relatively new shocks.) Braking hard to slow the vehicle will eventually realign the wheels and allow me to regain control. This has been happening for over a year. In September 2021 I paid over $2,500 to Capital Ford, Hillsborough, NC for the problem to be repaired. They replaced a rod and ball joint in the front end, aligned the front wheels, and told me the problem was fixed. I still have the problem. I am very surprised, and apparently lucky, that I have not been involved in a major accident or run off the road into something while my truck was bouncing from side to side and I had no control. (I have ended up off the road but have been lucky enough to have not hit anyone.) When this happens, vehicles around me get as far from me as they can as it is quite clear something very dangerous is happening. My wife's internet search turned up many F350s with EXACTLY the same problem. This is where I learned this was called a "death shake". Her search also showed that Ford does not seem to know what to do about the problem, as they have no standard fix for the repair and many "fixed vehicles" still exhibit the death shake. At this stage I don't know what to do with the vehicle. Its book value is over $20,000, yet I don't dare sell the vehicle as it may kill someone. I clearly can't afford to junk it. Ford apparently doesn't know how to fix it. It's that or Ford isn't willing to admit this is a major design flaw and is unwilling to incur the cost of a recall. My only hope at this stage, is for the NHTSA to order Ford to recall and fix the F350 front ends.

When you hit a bump, the truck violently shakes. This usually occurs at speeds greater than 40mph. The only way to get it to stop is to come to almost a complete stop. Very dangerous if someone is behind you and you have to stop fast to get it to stop. This occurs very frequently. I replaced parts the repair ship tells me is bad and the problem continues to occur. This occurs almost every time I drive.

First issues is the high pressure fuel pump the cp4. They tend to fall apart sending metal through your injectors all the way back to the fuel tank. It is a well known issue and dodge has made the recall on the same pump. Second is the shaking of the steering wheel after hitting a bump in the road you have to slow down below 25 mph to get it to stop it’s know as “ death wobble”. The other issue is the upper oil pan leaks had it repaired under warranty and less than 2 years later it is leaking again. It is also a well known issue with the 6.7 power stroke diesel motor.

The contact stated that he was in the process of placing winter tires on the vehicle and noticed that two of the tires had formed irregular bubbles on the side of tires. The contact took the tires to a local tires shop where they stated they would replace only one of the tires under warranty coverage. The contact was concerned after finding out the tire manufacturer had recalls on similar tires that were purchased, but not the exact tires he owned. The contact was also concerned that the tires could cause an accident if a failure was experienced while driving on the tires. The tires were not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage on the tires was 1,934. The vehicle failure mileage was unavailable.

On the Highway driving about 60 mph and the front end and the steering wheel starts to shake uncontrollably. I had to slow down to about 20 mph on the highway before the shaking stopped. It’s done this over 10 times now. Each time scarier than the last.

We were driving in a street road and hit a small bump and the car started shaking violently and my husband lost control of steering, we almost hit a light pole but were able to reduce the speed and only hit the curve. When we slowed down the tie rod was broken and we had to call for road assistance. All of the things we experienced were exactly as they are described by other people who have experienced the “death wobble”. There were no warnings that it was going to happen, it was sudden. Luckily we weren’t in a highway so we weren’t going at high speed, but otherwise it would have been very dangerous also for the cars surrounding us. After the incident we took our car to ford to be repaired and it was a very expensive repair, they didn’t give us a reason as to why it happened but that just left us wondering if it might happen again in the future. The insurance company doesn’t seem interested in getting in touch with us to see if there is something they can help us with. And now we are just left to hope it doesn’t happen again to us or other people. Ford needs to recall his trucks.

ON 5/8/21, WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATLY55-60 MPH, I HIT A POTHOLE ON HWY231 SOUTH (4 LANE) AND THE FRONT END OF MY 2011 F350 TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND BECAME HARD TO STEER. I HAD TO ALMOST STOP BEFORE IT QUIT SHAKING. I WAS AFRAID WE (WIFE & I) WERE GOING TO LOOSE CONTROL AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND AFTER INSPECTION, THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A PROBLEM ONLY A FORD DEALER COULD FIX. THE SHOP HAD SEEN THIS BEFORE AND FORD REFUSED TO TELL THEM WHAT PARTS WERE NEEDED TO DO THAT FIX. ON 5/12/21, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO TALLASSEE AUTOMOTIVE FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. AFTER INSPECTION, THEY SAID THEY KNEW THE PROBLEM AND COULD FIX IT FOR $1100 (OR $11?? SOMETHING. I WAS FLABBERGASTED AT THE AMOUNT, BUT HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED AND AGREED. THEY OREDERED PARTS AND CALLED TWO DAYS LATER TO COME PICK IT UP. UPON ARRIVAL, THEY SAID MY BILL WAS $1450. I COMPLAINED LOUDLY THAT THEY TOLD ME $1100 SOMETHING. AFTER CONSULTATION BETWEEN SOMEONE I DID NOT SEE, THEY AGREED TO DISCOUNT IT BY $300. LATER SOMEONE TOLD ME THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS FORD PROBLEM AND I SHOULD LOOK IT UP ONLINE. I DID AND FOUND STORIES ABOUT SOMETHING CALLED THE "DEATH WABBLE." MY PURPOSE FOR THIS COMPLAINT IS TO ADD MY VOICE TO THE GROUP OF PEPOPLE WHO HAVE HAD A SIMILAR EXPERIENCE AND MAY REQUIRE FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW THAT COULD CAUSE INJURIES OR DEATH TO UNKNOWING PEOPLE. AS FOR THE REPAIRS, IT SEEMS THEY REPLACED EVERYTHING BETWEEN THE TWO FRONT WHEELS AND THE STEERING COLUMN. NOT BEING A MECHANIC, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THIS OR WHAT WAS REALLY NECESSARY TO FIX IT. NO SYMPTOMS BEFORE THIS INCIDENT INDICATED THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY TRUCK. THERE WERE NO WARNINGS OR EVENTS THAT COULD HAVE MADE ME CHECK OUT ANY PROBLEM LIKE THIS SITUATION. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED FORD MOTOR CO., THE POLICE, OR INSURANCE COMPANY. LOOKING ON THE INTERNET, IT IS APPARENT FORD IS AWARE OF THIIS PROBLEM AND CLAIMS NO RESPONSIBILITY.
