THIS IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SAFETY ACT. HOWEVER, IT IS DEEMED A SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN BY THE AGENCY. VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: 1990-1993 FORD F-SERIES VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH DUAL FUEL TANKS AND 4.9, 5.0,5.8, OR 7.5 LITER GASOLINE FUELED ENGINES. SOME VEHICLES CAN EXPERIENCE A CROSS TANK FUEL FLOW CONDITION DUE TO A DAMAGED CHECK VALVE IN THE FUEL PUMP/SENDER ASSEMBLY. FUEL MAY BE SUPPLIED FROM ONE TANK AND SOME OR ALL OF THE UNUSED FUEL MAY BE RETURNED TO THE OTHER TANK.
Remedy: FORD IS EXTENDING THE WARRANTY FOR POTENTIAL FUEL CROSS-FLOW TO 12 YEARS OF SERVICE OR 150,000 MILES FROM THE VEHICLE'S WARRANTY START DATE, WHICHEVER OCCURS FIRST. THIS COVER WILL AUTOMATICALLY TRANSFER TO SUBSEQUENT OWNERS AT NO CHARGE. IF A VEHICLE ALREADY HAS MORE THAN 150,000 MILES, THIS OVERAGE WILL LAST UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2001. IF THE VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING A FUEL CROSS-FLOW CONDITION, DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE CONDITION FREE OF CHARGE.

THE STEEL FUEL RETURN TUBES THAT CONNECT THE FRAME FUEL RETURN LINES WITH THE ENGINE FUEL RAIL CAN CONTACT THE PINCH WELD FLANGE CONNECTING THE DASH PANEL TO THE FLOOR PAN. CONTINUED CONTACT LEADS TO ABRASION OF THE STEEL FUEL RETURN TUBE AND EVENTUALLY RESULTS IN A FUEL LEAK.
Remedy: FORD DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL RETURN TUBES WITH FLEXIBLE STAINLESS STEEL BRAIDED/TEFLON TUBES. DEALERS WILL ALSO INSPECT THE FUEL SUPPLY TUBES.

Remedy: REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AND INSTALLATION OF REDUNDANT CHECK VALVES.

A REVISED BRAKE LINING NOISE INSULATOR RESULTED IN A DECREASE IN THE THERMAL INSULATION BETWEEN THE BRAKE LINING AND THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER PISTON. THIS CAUSED GREATER HEAT TRANSFER TO THE CALIPER PISTONS WITH THE POTENTIAL TO OVERHEAT THE BRAKE FLUID AND DIMINISH BRAKE EFFECTIVENESS DURING SEVERE BRAKING CONDITIONS.
Remedy: ADD SNAP-IN INSULATORS THAT ATTACH TO EACH OF THE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER PISTONS. IN ADDITION, VEHICLES WITH 7.5 L ENGINES WILL HAVE INSULATION ADDED TO THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BRAKE LINES.

ABOUT AUGUST 2012 I WAS INFORMED BY PETTIS TIRES, CORDELE, GA. THAT THE TWO TIRES I HAD BOUGHT FROM THEM HAD BEEN RECALLED. FOR APPROX. ONE YEAR WE TRADED PHONE CALLS AND NO PROGRESS WAS MADE. I CALLED BF GOODRICH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD TO GO TO SEARS AUTO IN ALBANY, GA. THAT LASTED ABOUT THREE WEEKS, SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET REPLACEMENTS. CALLED CUSTOMER SERVICE AGAIN THEY SENT ME TO SUNRISE FORD, SYLVESTER, GA. SUNRISE SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM IF THEY KNEW THEY WOULD BE REIMBURSED. SO FAR NO AGENCY HAS BEEN WILLING TO GET THE REPLACEMENTS OR ARE UNSURE ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT. I WAS EVEN TOLD BY PETIS TIRES IN CORDELE, GA. TO WAIT AS LONG AS I CAN BECAUSE THESE ARE FREE MILES ON BAD TIRES. THE ORIGINAL LETTER FROM BF GOODRICH IN JULY 2012 RECOMMENDED GETTING THESE TIRES OFF THE ROAD AS SOON AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF "TREAD LOSS AND/OR RAPID AIR LOSS RESULTING FROM TREAD BELT SEPARATION". NOT MY IDEA OF GETTING FREE MILES ON RECALLED TIRES. TWO CALLS TO CUSTOMER SERVICE, THREE RECOMMENDED DEALERS, AND NO CALLS BACK, NO TIRES. NO PROBLEM, THESE ARE FREE MILES. CUSTOMER SERVICE BF GOODRICH 1-800-637-5527. PETTIS TIRE, CORDELE GA. 229-273-1153. FOR ONE YEAR THEY WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE MY REQUESTS. SAID THEY WOULD CALL THEIR SUPPLIER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1991 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND WAS TOWED WHERE THE CONTACT EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED ONE OF THE DUAL FUEL TANKS WAS FULL AND ONE WAS EMPTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 93V125000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 79,000.
