FORD IS RECALLING 225,000 MY 1992-2003 ECONOLINE, MY 1993-1995 TAURUS SHO, MY 1992-1998 CROWN VICTORIA, MY 1993 BRONCO, F-SERIES, MY 1995-1997 F-SERIES SUPER DUTY STRIPPED CHASSIS, MY 1992-1998 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS, AND MY 1992-1995 LINCOLN TOWN CAR VEHICLES. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES WERE PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED USING A WIRING HARNESS THAT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE VEHICLE CIRCUIT POLARITY.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW WIRING HARNESS, OR REPLACE THE MATING ELECTRICAL COMPONENT. THE RECALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY 18, 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FORD AT 1-800-392-3673.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A FUSED WIRING HARNESS. OWNERS OF THE PASSENGER CARS INCLUDED IN THIS CAMPAIGN WILL BE INSTRUCTED TO RETURN THEIR VEHICLES TO THEIR DEALERS TO HAVE THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH DISCONNECTED AS AN INTERIM REPAIR. Remedy: A WEDGE WILL BE INSTALLED WHICH WILL SERVE TO LOCK THE PARKING BRAKE SELF-ADJUST MECHANISM PAWL INTO ENGAGEMENT WITH THE RACHET. ALSO, OWNERS WILL BE ADVISED TO RELEASE AND REAPPLY THE PARKING BRAKE WHENEVER TOOTH SKIP OCCURS AND WILL BE REMINDED TO ALWAYS TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN GEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED.

MY 1993 FORD BRONCO HAS AN ESOF (ELECTRONIC SHIFT ON THE FLY) TRANSFER CASE. WITH FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ENGAGED, ON ROAD AND OFF, WHENEVER THE VEHICLE IS COASTING THE TRUCK WILL SUDDENLY ACT LIKE IT IS NO LONGER IN GEAR. SHIFTING INTO PARK AND AND BACK WILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. THE TRUCK MUST BE TAKEN OUT OF FOUR WHEEL DRIVE IN ORDER TO START DRIVING AGAIN. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE DANGEROUS AS IT COULD ALLOW ME TO NOT REACT IN THE CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. IT THINK THAT IT IS A SIMILAR PROBLEM TO THE RECALL 93V089000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD BRONCO. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND CAUSED ANOTHER VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THERE WERE UNKNOWN INJURIES SUSTAINED THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT DID NOT DISCLOSE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V017000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1993 FORD BRONCO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH WHILE COASTING HE ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEFECT WAS ONLY OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSFER CASES SLIPPED OUT OF THE 4X4 GEAR DURING THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME DEFECT LISTED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 93V089000 (POWER TRAIN) BUT THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT INCLUDE THE VEHICLE IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000. UPDATE 4/7/14 VA THE CONSUMER REQUESTED ASSISTANCE WITH HAVING FORD REIMBURSE THE $1,500 FOR REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER BELIEVES THE VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *JS

1993 EDDIE BAUER BRONCO RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT. *TS WHEN THE TIRE BLEWOUT THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL O THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A SHALLOW DITCH. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK ON THE ROAD AND PUT THE SPARE TIRE ON. THE REMAINING TIRES WERE DRIVEN ANOTHER 10000 MILES THEN REMOVED DUE TO BULGES IN THE SIDEWALL. THE TIRES WERE T HEN STORED IN THE CONSUMER'S SHED. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL ON THE TIRE AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE TIRE TO THE TIRE DEALER AND HAVE THE TIRE SENT TO THEM. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THAT THE TIRES WERE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T ON THE TRUCK. *NM

ON TWO SEPERATE OCCASIONS, TIRE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRES WHEN TRAVELING 60-65 MPH. THE TIRES ARE FIRESTONE FIREHAWK ATX 33X12.50R15LT MOUNTED ON A 1993 FORD BRONCO. ON THE SECOND OCCASION, THE TREAD SEPARATION RESULTED IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND A SINGLE CAR ACCIDENT INTO A GAURD RAIL. THE SECOND FAILED TIRE IS STILL AVAILABLE. ALL FIRESTONE TIRES HAVE SINCE BEEN REPLACED ON THE VEHICLE.

ON APRIL 25, 2003, I WAS DRIVING TO KANSAS CITY, MO. FROM TULSA, OK. ON I-44. PURSUANT TO THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT, I WAS TRAVELLING AT OR NEAR 75 M.P.H. THERE WAS ONLY MYSELF AND MY DOG IN THE CAR. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE FROM THE BACK OF MY CAR, A 1993 FORD BRONCO. ACTUALLY, IT SOUNDED MORE LIKE AN EXPLOSION. THE CAR IMMEDEATLY WENT UP ON TWO WHEELS TOWARDS A BARRICADE. I TRIED TO CORRECT IT AND LOST CONTROL THE OTHER DIRECTION. THE DOG, A ONE HUNDRED POUND LAB, WAS THROWN INTO THE FRONT SEAT. I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO GET KILLED AND SHUT MY EYES. WHEN I OPENED THEM, I WAS PERPINDICULAR TO TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE. I REGAINED MY COMPOSURE AND PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I GOT OUT TO INVESTIGATE THE ANAMOLY AND FOUND A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS AT, SIZE: 31X10.5, DOT #VD60 AW3 497. WITH THE TREAD 3/4 DETACHED. THE MUFFLER WAS SMASHED, THE WHEEL WELL WAS SHOVED INTO THE BACK SEAT WELL PAST THE POINT WHERE IT WAS WHEN I HAD LAST OBSERVED IT. THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM (I.E. BRAKE LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHTS) WAS INOPERABLE. I PUT A SPARE ON THE CAR AND HAD IT CHANGED A FEW HARROWING HOURS LATER AFTER DRIVING ON THE SHOULDER FOR SOME TIME AT 25 M.P.H. AS I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TYPE OF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE MAY HAVE OCCURED. I DID WAIT FOR A STATE TROOPER FOR SOME TIME BUT NONE SHOWED. I STILL MAINTAIN POSSESSION OF THE TIRE.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT CHICO AUTO CARE LOCATED AT 724 W. 9TH ST. IN CHICO , CA. 95928 (530) 894-7165. THE MECHANICS REPAIRED THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE TOP OF THE IN-TANK FUEL PUMP, LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE MECHANICS STATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN SEEING THIS MORE FREQUENTLY ON THE FORD TRUCKS AND THAT I WAS LUCKY IT DID NOT BLOW UP. WHEN TRYING TO GET A REPLACEMENT PART, IT WAS LEARNED THAT FORD HAS DESIGNED A NEW SWITCH FOR THIS PART AND THAT IS WHAT NEEDED IN PLACE OF THE OLD PART. IF THIS WAS A FAULTY SWITCH THAT WAS SHORTING OUT AND BURNING AND FORD CHANGED THE DESIGN, WHY WERE THE OWNERS NOT NOTIFIED. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *AK
