AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2000-2002 BMW 320i, 323i, 325i, 325xi, 330i, 330xi, 323Ci, 325Ci, 330Ci, M3, 323iT, 325iT and 325xiT vehicles, 2001-2002 525i, 530i, 540i, M5, 525iT and 540iT vehicles, and 2001-2003 X5 3.0i, X5 4.4i, and X5 4.6is vehicles. These vehicles may have had a driver-side air bag module installed as replacement equipment such as after a vehicle crash necessitating replacement of the original air bag, or as a remedy part for a prior recall. These replacement modules contain an air bag inflator that may rupture due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to lower absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
Remedy: Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until the vehicle has been remedied. BMW will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the driver side air bag module, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 15, 2017. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE CONNECTION OF THE SAFETY BELT BUCKLE TO THE STEEL ROPE OF THE TENSIONER DOES NOT MEET BMW SPECIFICATIONS. IN SEVERE FRONTAL CRASHES, THIS CONNECTION CAN DETACH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT BOTH FRONT SAFETY BELT TENSIONER AND BUCKLE ASSEMBLIES, AND IF NECESSARY, REPLACE THESE PARTS. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 19, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT BMW AT 1-800-831-1117.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS
ON CERTAIN SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, IT MAY BE POSSIBLE FOR THE FRONT BRAKE LINE TO SLIP OUT OF THE RETAINING BRACKET LOCATED AT THE FRONT STRUT. THE BRAKE HOSE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE BRAKE LINE COULD COME IN CONTACT WITH THE TIRE AND BE SUBJECTED TO WEAR AND ABRASION.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL AN ADDITIONAL RETAINING CLIP TO FURTHER SECURE THE BRAKE LINE TO THE FRONT STRUT. ADDITIONALLY, IF INSPECTION OF ANY BRAKE HOSE INDICATES THAT IT HAS EXPERIENCED DAMAGE, THE HOSE WILL BE REPLACED. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN FEBRUARY 14, 2003. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE HOOD INADVERTENTLY UNLATCHED CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE HOOD SHOCKS AND HOOD HINGES TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS STILL AWAITING A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 117,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BMW X5. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE DID NOT SECURE THE VEHICLE'S HOOD LATCH WHEN HE PUT THE HOOD DOWN. THE CONTACT THEN DROVE THE VEHICLE AT 35 MPH, WHEN THE HOOD FLUNG UP. NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. BMW OF NORTH LIBERTY (525 MADISON AVE, NORTH LIBERTY, IA 52317) WAS CONTACTED AND MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE DEALER INFORMED THAT THEY COULD NOT COME TO A CONCLUSIVE DECISION AS TO DETERMINE IF THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH THE HOOD WARNING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE SHOCKS INSIDE THE HOOD HAD RIPPED LOOSE AND THE HOOD NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT INFORMED THAT THE REARVIEW MIRROR WOULD ALERT, IF THE HOOD WAS OPEN AND THE COMPLAINT WOULD BE FORWARDED TO THEIR SAFETY ENGINEER, HOWEVER SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A CERTIFIED BMW MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.

AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM I FOUND THAT THE GMIII CONTROLS THE CENTRAL LOCKING AS WELL AS OTHER ITEMS LIKE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS, INTERIOR LIGHTS, SUN ROOF, AND REAR UPPER AND LOWER HATCH. I ORDERS A NEW ONE AND WHEN I TOOK THE OLD ONE OUT TO REPLACE IT I FOUND THAT IT HAD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND BLEW FUSE 14. IT APPEARS A THYRISTOR OR TIAC GOT TO HOT AND SET THE BOARD AND CASE ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN FIVE TIMES TO BMW OF MURRAY (LOCATED AT 4735 STATE ST, MURRAY, UT 84107, (801) 262-2479) FOR REPAIRS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. SET UP AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THE BAG REPLACED AT FLOW BMW IN WINSTON-SALEM, NC ON SEPTEMBER 13, 2019, THEY INFORMED THE BAG HAD ALREADY BEEN REPLACED AND THAT NO REPAIR WAS NECESSARY. I CHECKED MY RECORDS ON THIS VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAG HAS NEVER BEEN REPLACED. I FINALLY DID GET IT CLOSE, BUT IT WOULD NOT OPEN. I HAD TO GET IN FROM THE BACK SEAT AND CRAWL OVER TO THE FRONT SO THAT I COULD TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER. WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS THAT THE LATCH WAS PROBABLY FROZEN. SO DOES THIS MEAN YOU CAN ONLY DRIVE A BMW IN WARM WEATHER? HE ALSO SAID IT COULD BE A BUILDUP OF DIRT. SO I GUESS BOTH MY DOORS GOT A BUILDUP OF DIRT AT THE SAME TIME. SO HE SAID WE WOULD PROBABLY JUST REPLACE THE LATCH. THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I REPLACED THE OIL SEPARATOR AT BMW DEALERSHIP 1/10/08 BECAUSE OIL WAS BECOMING POLLUTED WITH WATER EVEN AFTER I EXPLAINED TO DEALERSHIP PREVIOUS TIMES THE OIL LOOKED MILKY WHEN I DID A DIPSTICK CHECK. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE PART FAILED BEFORE IT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE AND A CONDITION KNOWN AS HYDROLOCK, WHICH COULD CAUSE ENGINE TO SEIZE. LAST WEEK IN VERY COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS,1/13,2015 MY CARS CABIN FILLED WITH BLACK SMOKE. I PULLED OVER AND FOUND THE ENGINE SPOILED WITH SMOKING OIL, I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS THE OIL SEPARATOR AGAIN. THE PART IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE CRANKCASE VENT VALVE I HAD IT CHANGED/REPAIRED, IT IS EXPENSIVE AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS VEHICLE DAMAGE AND ACCIDENTS. I THINK FOR THIS TO HAPPEN TWICE POINTS TO A DANGEROUS VULNERABLE PART. SEEMS I'VE HAD EVERY TYPICAL PROBLEM OTHER THAN THE CAR CATCHING FIRE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE OWNED BMWS IN GERMANY AND THE US FOR A LONG TIME, HOWEVER, I THINK I'LL BE SWITCHING BRANDS WITH MY NEXT VEHICLE. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 WINDOW REGULATORS, MY REAR HATCH SEEMS TO OPEN FOR NO REASON, MY REAR WINDOW WIPER IS WORKING WITH THE SWITCH IN THE OFF POSITION, LED'S ARE GOING OUT AGAIN AND NOW THE DREADED APPARENT OIL SEPARATOR WITH TONS OF GREY SMOKE BILLOWING OUT THE BACK OF THE CAR AFTER BEING LEFT IN AN AIRPORT PARKING LOT FOR 4 DAYS WHILST IT SNOWED OUTSIDE. BRAKE FLUID WARNING LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO LOW BRAKE FLUID. UPON INSPECTION, BRAKE LINE HAD CORRODED AND WAS LEAKING. GIVEN THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE THIS WOULD APPEAR TO BE QUITE PREMATURE. DESCRIPTION BY MECHANIC OF OEM REPLACEMENT LINE WAS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DURABLE THAN LINE REPLACED.

OVER SEVERAL OCCASIONS, THE CAR ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE WE ARE DRIVING. WE CAN TURN IT ON JUST AFTER WHEN WE CAN GET THE CAR TO A SAFE SPOT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE BMW AND THEY TELL ME NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE CAR!! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND MY WIFE HAD ALMOST HAD A BAD ACCIDENT FOR THIS. *TR
