CERTAIN REPLACEMENT FUEL FILTERS, FRAM BRAND NAME P/N G3727, WITH DATE CODES X52911 THROUGH X60801 SEQUENTIALLY OR X600141 AND A MEXICO COUNTRY OR ORIGIN MARKING ON THE FUEL FILTER HOUSING MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 18, 2005, THROUGH MARCH 21, 2006, SOLD FOR USE ON THE VEHICLES LISTED ABOVE AND ON CERTAIN SCHOOL BUSES. (TO SEE THE SCHOOL BUS ENGINE SIZES, CLICK ON "DOCUMENT SEARCH" AND THEN "BUS APPLICATIONS"). THE CONNECTOR ON THE FUEL FILTER WAS NOT MANUFACTURED TO HONEYWELL'S SPECIFICATION. AS A RESULT, THE O-RING MAY NOT SEAT CORRECTLY ON THE FUEL LINE.
Remedy: HONEYWELL WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND REPLACE THE FUEL FILTERS FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 18, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT FRAM CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-890-2075 (OPTION 1).

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: LIGHT DUTY EXTENDED-CAB PICKUP TRUCKS AND 4-DOOR UTILITY TRUCKS. THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT TO STEERING GEAR PINCH BOLT IS "FINGER LOOSE" OR MISSING ALLOWING THE BOLT TO LOOSEN AND FALL OUT. THE STEERING SHAFT YOKE CAN WEAR CAUSING AN OFF CENTER STEERING WHEEL.
Remedy: DEALERS ARE ARRANGING TO HAVE THE VEHICLES INVOLVED TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION IS BEING ARRANGED FOR OWNERS. DEALERS WILL THEN INSPECT THE VEHICLE FOR THE PRESENCE OF A PINCH BOLT AND TORQUE THIS BOLT TO PROPER SPECIFICATIONS.

I GOT INTO A ACCIDENT. AT THE INTERSECTION OF WASHINGTON ST AND 2ND ST IN RENO NV. I IMPACTED ANOTHER CAR AS THEY WENT ACROSS THE INTERSECTION. I HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY, I IMPACTED THE PASSENGER REAR END OF THE OTHER PERSONS VEHICLE. THE MAIN POINT OF IMPACT ON MY YUKON WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT CORNER. THE ACCIDENT WAS NOT VERY BAD, NO ONE REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION AT THE SCENE. WHEN I IMPACTED I WAS TRAVELING LESS THAN 35 M P H. AND ACCORDING TO THE DRIVEWISE DEVICE. THE VEHICLE IMPACTED AFTER APPLYING THE BREAK AT APPROX 16 MPH- AT WHICH POINT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. WHEN FURTHER LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE AND REPLACING THE AIRBAGS WE FOUND THAT THE SENSOR DID NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE WIRES BETWEEN THE AIRBAGS AND THE SENSORS WERE CRIMPED IN THE LITTLE BIT ON BODY DAMAGE THAT HAPPENED IN THE ACCIDENT, DEFLATING THE AIRBAGS UNNECESSARILY AND HINCE A SMALL ACCIDENT THAT HARDLY DAMAGED ANY OF THE VEHICLE RENDERED IT AS SALVAGE- BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED DURING A LOW IMPACT ACCIDENT.

POWER STEERING PUMP LOST "POWER", LUCKILY, AT LOW SPEED AND CLOSE TO HOME. THE PULLEY SHAFT BROKE OFF AT THE IMPELLER. I REPLACED THE PUMP, WITH A REMAN FROM AUTOZONE. THE "NEW" PUMP LASTED ABOUT 25 MILES BEFORE IT'S SHAFT BROKE. I'M INSTALLING A REPLACEMENT REMAN THIS EVENING. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AT LOW SPEEDS, THE ABS BRAKE MODULE ACTIVATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE FUSE FOR THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO TEMPORARILY REMEDY THE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE NO LONGER HAD ABS BRAKING ABILITY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ADDRESSING THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 156,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 GMC YUKON. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND IGNITED INTO HEAVY FLAMES WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE PARKED NEXT TO THE BURNING VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGES TO THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06E043000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE CAUSE OF FAILURE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.

THE POWER STEERING GOES INTO "FULL MODE" AT SPEEDS ABOVE ABOUT 25 MPH, MAKING A ONE INCH MOVEMENT OF THE STEERING WHEEL INTO THE EQUIVALENT OF A ONE QUARTER TURN OF THE WHEEL. IT IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON THE FREEWAY, ALTHOUGH ON CITY STREETS IT MAKES THE VEHICLE JERK AROUND IN THE LANE. THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN REPORTED AND HAS RESULTED IN ONE DEATH AND ABOUT 8-10 ACCIDENTS. SOMETIMES YOU COULD DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES FOR A WHILE AND THEN IT WOULD START. TOOK IT TO THE SHOP, THEY COULD NOT FIND A DEFINITIVE PROBLEM. THEN THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT, REPLACED IT AND TWO WEEKS LATER IT WENT OUT AGAIN. REPLACED THE PUMP AND WIRING HARNESS, TWO WEEKS LATER OUT AGAIN, REPLACED PUMP AND RELAYS. THEN ABOUT A MONTH AND A HALF THE FUEL PUMP WENT OUT AGAIN! REPLACED THE PUMP AND THEY INSTALLED A DIFFERENT WIRING HARNESS THIS TIME, I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT FOR A DAY THIS TIME, WONDER HOW LONG THIS PUMP WILL LAST. THE MECHANIC I USE WENT TO THE GM DEALER TO GET THE FUEL PUMPS. ALSO, I BOUGHT THE YUKON USED, AND WHEN I FILLED IT UP I NOTICED A GAS SMELL, AND DISCOVERED IT WAS LEAKING. TOOK IT BACK TO THE CAR LOT, THEY SAID THEY FIXED IT, BUT THE NEXT TIME I FILLED UP IT WAS LEAKING AGAIN. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE FUEL PUMP SAGA STARTED! WHAT IS THE PROBLEM HERE?? WHILE STOPPING AT SLOW SPEED, MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATED ON MY 1998 GMC YUKON CAUSING ME TO NARROWLY MISS AN ACCIDENT. THE SYSTEM WOULD DO THIS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY WITH NO WARNING. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED - THE CORROSION WAS REMOVED FROM UNDER THE BRAKE SENSORS. MONTHS LATER I SAW GM ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BUT VEHICLE YEARS WERE FROM 1999-2003 NOT INCLUDING 1998. I CALLED GM AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER MY 1998 UNDER THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE PARTS ARE IDENTICAL IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM BETWEEN A 1998 AND 1999. *JB

I JUST BOUGHT A 1998 YUKON AND DURING INSPECTION ASKED ABOUT MY BRAKE ISSUES. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE ABS. I LOOKED IT UP AND IT IS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL STATES (GM RE-CALL #05068). DURING LOW-SPEED BRAKING, IT HAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH. THE RECALL IS ONLY FOR 1999-2002 VEHICLES. I'M WONDERING WHY THE 1998'S WEREN'T INCLUDED IN THIS RE-CALL AS IT IS APPARENT THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. WHAT SHOULD I DO ABOUT THIS? *JB

WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE RIDE STARTED TO BE CHOPPY NO LONGER SMOOTH AND WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS BUCKING, THEN WHEN WE PROCEEDED DOWN THE ROAD WE HEARD A LOUD BANG OF METAL ,THEN IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKE PAD HAD BROKEN OR CALIPER HAD FALLEN AND IT WAS GRINDING THE NOISE LESSENED WITH A LITTLE PRESSURE ON BRAKE PEDAL. SERVICE STATION FOUND CENTER OF ROTOR HAD SEPARATED ON FRONT PASSENGERS SIDE AND DRIVER'S SIDE WAS READY TO GO. I CALLED GMC AND WAS TOLD THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS ON 1998 YUKON'S FOR ROTORS AND BECAUSE I HAD 102731 MILES IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. BOTH ROTORS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW PADS, I TOLD GMC THAT I KEPT THE ORIGINAL ROTORS FROM SERVICE STATION. UPDATED 01/27/06. *JB

WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAD TO CHANGE LANES THROUGH TRAFFIC AND STOP ON THE SHOULDER BECAUSE I HAD NO VISIBILITY. MY CONCERNS ARE A HEALTH ISSUE. I'VE OWNED A 1996 YUKON AND I NOW OWN A 1998 YUKON. AND BOTH HAVE WATER LEAK PROBLEMS IN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE,THE PROBLEM WITH THE LEAK IS THAT THEY GO UNNOTICED BY THE CONSUMER BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION. WHEN YOU DRIVE YOUR SUV IN WET WEATHER, WATER COMES IN THE VEHICLE SOMEWHERE. THE WHOLE BACK OF THE TRUCK GETS WET, HOW WET DEPENDS ON HOW BAD THE WEATHER IS. HARD TO DETECT BECAUSE,YOU DON'T SIT IN THE BACK OF YOUR TRUCK FOR ONE, AND THE CARPET MAT THAT COVERS THE BACK AREA FOR TWO, AND THE FACT THAT IT DRIES UP. MY CONCERNS ARE THE MOLD,AND MILDEW,AND SPORES THAT ARE GROWING, AND GOING UNTREATED. WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SMALL CHILDREN TRAVELING IN THESE VEHICLES,AND THE PEOPLE WITH SEVERE ALLERGIES TO MOLD AND MILDEW. I'VE MADE TWO CASE FILES WITH THEM ON THIS ISSUE AND THEY BOUGHT MY 1996 YUKON BACK FROM ME BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND THE LEAK NOR FIX IT. I AM NOW TRYING TO GET THEM TO TAKE CARE OF THESE PROBLEMS WITH MY 1998. MY SISTER IN-LAW ALSO BOUGHT A 1996 YUKON WITH THE SAME PROBLEM,AND SHE THEN BOUGHT A 1999 TAHOE,AGAIN THE SAME PROBLEM IN THE SAME PLACE. RECENTLY, MY DAUGHTER, TRACYE, A SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER FOR THE DAWSON COUNTY GEORGIA SCHOOL SYSTEM, CALLED ME FOR HELP WITH HER 1998 YUKON. AT DAYS END, SHE PROCEEDED TO HER VEHICLE TO GO HOME. IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AT THE TIME. HER WINDSHIED WIPERS WOULD NOT START. SHE CALLED ME, AND I HAD HER CHECK THE FUSE WHICH WAS OK. I THEN LEFT MY HOME TO DRIVE THE 80 MILES TO HER SCHOOL. WHILE I WAS ENROUTE, SHE CALLED AND SAID THE RAIN WAS REDUCING, AND SHE THEN DROVE THE 20 MILES TO HER HOME WITHOUT WIPERS. I CONTINUED ON TO HER HOME, SOME 90 MILES FROM MY HOME. THE NEXT MORNING, IT WAS NOT RAINING, SO I TOLD HER TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE TO SCHOOL, AND I WOULD DRIVE HER VEHICLE FOR REPAIR. I WENT TO NAPA AUTO PARTS WITH THE PROBLEM. NAPA WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM; STATING THAT GM CARS HAD A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE SOLDER CONNECTIONS BREAKING ON THE ELECTRONIC BOARD THAT CONTROLS THE WIPERS. UNFORTUNATELY, HE HAD TO ORDER THE BOARD WHICH WAS GOING TO BE DELIVERED THE NEXT MORNING. I LEFT NAPA AND WENT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER. HE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM, BUT SAID THE REPAIR COVERED BY GM WENT FROM 94 THROUGH 97 MODELS. THE NEXT MORNING, I GOT THE PART FROM NAPA AND WENT TO A NAPA REPAIR SHOP. THEY WERE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS RECURRING PROBLEM ON GM CARS. SINCE I WAS WAITING, THEY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS THE PROBLEM. I DROPPED MY DAUGHTER'S VEHICLE AT HER SCHOOL AND RETURNED HOME. I FEEL THAT THIS WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ITEM IN THAT OCCURRENCE WHILE DRIVING IN HEAVY RAIN LIKELY WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE A RECALL BY GM AND THE COST OF THE BOARD AND THE LABOR SHOULD BE BORNE BY GM. OWNERS SHOULD BE COVERED ALSO FOR REPAIRS/PARTS COMPLETED AT OTHER SHOPS. *AK

WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE DURING A WET SNOW-STORM, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THAT CONTRIBUTED TO THE SLUSH ON OUR WINDSHIELD, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS QUIT WORKING. IT IS ONLY BY THE GRACE OF GOD THAT I WAS ABLE TO CROSS LANES AND REACH THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I TURNED OFF MY ENGINE AND WAITED FOR APPROX. 10 MINUTES FOR THE WIPER MOTOR TO COOL DOWN. MY GMC MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THIS EXACT MOTOR BUT THAT GMC HAS NOT INCLUDED THE 1998 YEAR YUKONS INCLUDED. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME MY WIPERS HAVE STOPPED WORKING - ALWAYS DURING LONG-TERM DRIVING AND DURING HEAVY USE OF THE WIPERS. I HAVE WRITTEN TO GMC ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND REQUESTED THEIR HELP. THEY WERE NOT INTERESTED IN HELPING ME NOR WERE THEY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD THAT ARE SEVERELY AT RISK WITH THIS PROBLEM.

ABOUT 3 HOURS INTO A LONG-DISTANCE TRIP, DURING HEAVY RAIN, THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ON MY CAR QUIT WORKING. I WAS PULLING A CAMP TRAILER AND HAD 4 CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME. IT WAS A VERY FRIGHENING EXPERIENCE AND CAUSED US ALL GREAT DISTRESS AND ANXIETY WITH THE DANGEROUS SITUATION. THERE WAS NO PULL-OUT AVAILABLE SO I WAS FORCED TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHILE IT STUCK OUT IN THE ROADWAY. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND OPENED THE HOOD OF THE CAR. I LIGHTLY HIT THE WIPER MOTOR WITH A ROCK. THE WIPERS STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I CONTINUED DRIVING WITH CAUTION NOT KNOWING WHEN THE WIPERS MIGHT QUIT WORKING AGAIN. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE USED A LUBRICANT TO HELP REPELL WATER FROM MY WINDSHIELD AND TRY TO LIMIT THE USE OF MY WIPERS UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. I CANNOT DEPEND ON MY WIPERS TO GIVE ME VISABILITY. I CONTACTED THE GMC ASSISTANCE CENTER IN DETROIT AND FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THEM. THEY DID NOT WRITE ME BACK. MY GMC MECHANIC HAS ALSO TRIED TO GET GMC TO REPLACE THIS KNOWN DEFECT IN THEIR WASHER ASSEMBLY, ALSO WITHOUT SUCCESS. PLEASE PUT PRESSURE ON GMC TO INCLUDE 1998 YUKONS IN THEIR RECALL

DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE IN SO. IDAHO, DURING A HEAVY RAINSTORM, IN MODERATE TRAFFIC, MY WINDSHIELD WIPER SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. I COULD NOT SEE ANYTHING IN FRONT OF ME (THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD) AND HAD TO GUIDE MY CAR TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD USING THE SIDE WINDOW FOR VISABILITY. I REPEATEDLY TURNED THE WIPER SWITCHES BUT COULD NOT GET THEM TO WORK. I SAT BY THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE FOR OVER 20 MINUTES WITH MY ENGINE RUNNING WHILE TRYING TO GET THE WIPERS TO START WORKING AGAIN. THEY DID NOT. I HAD TO ABANDON MY VEHICLE AND FLAG DOWN A PASSING VEHICLE TO ASSIST ME IN GETTING HELP. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE WITH A MECHANIC, AND STARTED MY YUKON UP, THE WIPERS WORKED FINE. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A GMC DEALER WHERE I FIRST LEARNED THAT THE WIPER MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE, I LEARNED THAT GMC KNEW IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND ALSO LEARNED THAT GMC WAS NOT GOING TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
