New England Wheels (New England) is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Ford E-250, E-350, and 2015 Ford Transit vans equipped with certain model S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510 wheelchair lifts by Ricon. The platform side plate of the affected wheelchair lifts may crack. Additionally, the lifts are equipped with folding link arms that may have pivot holes that are too big, allowing the bearings to move out of position.
Remedy: New England will notify owners, and Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or for displaced bearings. The platform will be inspected for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on June 29, 2016. Owners may contact New England customer service at 1-800-886-9247. Over time, and with frequent use, the roll stop latches on the outer barrier of the lifts in these vans may become bent or misaligned.
Remedy: Braun Corporation notified all of the vehicle owners, and Advanced Wheels replaced the recalled parts with new parts, free of charge. Owners may contact Advanced Wheels customer service at 1-860-653-8064.

The vehicles are equipped with certain Ricon S series and K Series wheelchair lifts with an optional armored pendant cable. The armored cable may be positioned such that it does not clear the wheelchair lift.

THE RESTRAINT BELT ON THESE LIFTS WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LIFT FROM MOVING, UNLESS THE TONGUE OF THE BELT IS FULLY ENGAGED AND LATCHED IN THE BUCKLE. RICON HAS DISCOVERED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATOR TO INSERT THE BELT TONGUE INTO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT FULLY ENGAGING THE LATCHING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE, THE RESTRAINT BELT WOULD APPEAR TO BE LATCHED, AND THE OPERATOR COULD RUN THE LIFT. IF THE RESTRAINT BELT TONGUE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED INTO THE RESTRAINT BELT BUCKLE, AND LATCHED, THE LIFT MAY OPERATE WITH AN OCCUPANT ON THE PLATFORM.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE BARBER FORD VENTURA DEALER (805-691-8436, 3440 MAIN ST, VENTURA CA 93003) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A "SLIP YOKE" IN THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 19,500.

THIS IS A 2009 PLEASURE WAY EXCEL TS MOTOR HOME, BUILT BY PLEASURE WAY INDUSTRIES IN CANADA. THIS MOTOR HOME CAME WITH HANKOOK, DYNAPRO AS TIRES , SO FAR I HAVE HAD 3 OF THESE TIRES BLOW UP ON ME TRAVELING AT ABOUT 60 MPH, AND 2 MORE BUBBLING UP ON THE SIDE AND INSIDE, BUT THEY DID NOT BLOW SINCE I NOTICED IT AND INSTALL THE SPARE, ONE OF THIS LAST TWO THE BUBBLING WAS FOUND WHEN I REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES WITH NEW MICHELIN. THE 1ST 3 TIRES WERE REPLACED ON A PRORATED ORDER, I HAVING TO PAY FOR BALANCING AND MOUNTING. THE FIRST 3 TIRES WERE REPLACED WITH DYNAPRO HT TIRES WHICH 2 OF THEM FAILED THE SAME WAY. (THE SIDE WALL BUBBLES INSIDE AND OUT UNTIL IT BLOWS UP. THE LAST TWO TIRES HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED FOR REPLACEMENT BY HANKOOK BECAUSE THEY WANT TO VISUALLY INSPECT THEM SO THE TIRES ARE HAVING TO BE SENT TO THEM BY THE SEARS AUTO CENTER IN CORAL GABLES, FLORIDA. IN THE MEAN TIME I HAVE INSTALLED MICHELIN TIRES, DO NOT TRUST HANKOOK WHAT SO EVER. I HAVE PHOTOS, INVOICES, MILEAGE WHEN ALL THESE TIRES FAILED, WHICH DEPENDING ON THE OUTCOME OF THIS COMPLAIN I CAN SEND THEM TO YOU SINCE YOU A LIMIT TO UPLOAD THESE ITEMS. I BELIEVE THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH THESE TIRE AS TO BE OVERRATED OR SOMETHING, EVEN THOUGH ONE OF THE TIRES WAS ON THE FRONT ON THE VEHICLE, AND NOT SUBJECT TO WEIGHT OR PRESSURE SINCE IT HAD 55 LBS OF AIR PRESSURE AND THEY ARE RATED TO 80 LBS. IN MY SAFETY CONCERN HAD ANY ON THIS TIRES WOULD OF HAVE BLOWN ON THE FRONT, I WOULD PROBABLY NOT BE WRITING THIS COMPLAIN, AND GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT ELSE COULD OF HAPPENED. THE ENTIRE RUBBER AROUND THE STEEL BELT WAS STRIPPED OFF. THE BLOW OUT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE RUNNING BOARD AND TIRE WHEEL AREA. I PURCHASED THESE 4 TIRES ON 7/21/11 SO THERE ARE ONLY 2 YRS OLD WITH ABOUT 20-25 MILES ON THEM. BEFORE THIS BLOW OUT, I ACTUALLY REPLACED TWO OF THE OTHER TIRES REPLACED WEEKS BEFORE. ONE ON OF THEM, THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENTLY AND THE TIRE HAD A GIANT BULGE. 3000 MILES LATER, ALMOST 2 WEEKS, THE SECOND TIRE STARTED STRIPPING OFF THE RUBBER AND TEARING APART. CAR SHOOK THEN TOO. THE THIRD TIRE (STORY IN FIRST PARAGRAPH) COMPLETELY TORE APART BEFORE WE COULD GET TO A SAFE SPOT TO CHECK IT OUT. WHEN EACH TIRE HAD A NOTICEABLE PROBLEM, I DID THE FOLLOWING: 1. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD E-350. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE CONTINUOUSLY MADE A CLANKING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BALL JOINTS AND CENTER STEERING SHAFT BROKE; AS A RESULT, BOTH COMPONENTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. TRAVELING WESTBOUND IN HWY 54 EAST OF STRATFORD, TX THE LEFT REAR TIRE EXPLODED ON OUR 2008 PLEASURE-WAY RV. THIS RV IS BUILT ON A FORD E350 CHASSIS. THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AND DRIFTED INTO THE PATH OF AN ONCOMING TRACTOR-TRAILER. DRIVER STEERED VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT TO AVOID THE ONCOMING TRUCK, THE RV CROSSED OVER THE ROAD INTO A DITCH ON THE RIGHT, AGAIN TURNED TO THE LEFT AND RE-ENTERED THE ROADWAY AT A SHARP ANGLE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL ONTO ITS RIGHT SIDE. PASSENGER 1 SUSTAINED A BROKEN RIGHT SHOULDER AND BACK INJURIES, PASSENGER 2 SUSTAINED A SEVERELY SPRAINED WRIST. TIRE PRESSURE WAS CHECKED BEFORE BEGINNING THE TRIP, AND TIRES WERE VISUALLY INSPECTED AT A REST STOP 90 MINUTES BEFORE INCIDENT. VEHICLE WAS LIGHTLY LOADED AND WELL BELOW GVWR. WAS DRIVING NORMALLY WHEN THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND ALARM STARTED CHIMING. WHEN I PULLED OVER TO STOP THE ABS KICKED IN AND MY STOPPING DISTANCE GREATLY INCREASED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD E350 EQUIPPED WITH TRAIL TRAC HERITAGE AP 245/75/R16 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT AND RIPPED TO PIECES. AFTER THAT FAILURE, THE CONTACT HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE AND WHEN HE PULLED OVER, SAW THAT THE WHOLE TREAD HAD SEPARATED ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. HE CONTACTED THE TIRE SHOP WHERE HE PURCHASED THE TIRES BUT WAS TOLD THEY COULD NOT ASSIST HIM. THE CONTACT PURCHASED NEW TIRES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000. THERE HAS BEEN NO CRASH TO DATE. THE COMPLAINT IS RELATED TO THE POOR DRIVING PERFORMANCE OF 2008 FORD F350 12 PASSENGER VANS. THE STEERING CONTROL IS VERY POOR AND MAY CAUSE ACCIDENTS. THERE IS SO MUCH "SLOP" IN THE STEERING THAT YOU CAN FEEL THE VEHICLE SWAY BACK AND FORTH WHILE DRIVING. IN SOME CASES, AT HIGHER FREEWAY SPEEDS, THE VAN STARTS TO FISHTAIL (LIKE A TRAVEL TRAILER WITH TOO MUCH WEIGHT IN THE BACK). WE HAVE ASKED OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO LOOK AT THE PROBLEM, BUT, THE STEERING IS STILL BAD. I HAVE OWNED MANY FORD VEHICLES AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM BEFORE. *TR
