THESE HEADLAMPS FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, "LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT." THESE LAMPS DO NOT CONTAIN THE REQUIRED AMBER SIDE REFLECTORS.

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FLAMES. THE FIRE FIGHTERS COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 200,000. THIS IS IN REGARDS TO A 1997 CHEVROLET S-10 PICKUP. IT'S A 4 CYLINDER, 2 WHEEL DRIVE. THE LEFT TAILGATE STRAP BROKE. THE STRAP IS CLEARLY RUSTED THROUGHOUT WHICH CAUSED IT TO SNAP. I NOTICED THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS TYPE OF STRAP ON A GMC TRUCK. THIS IS NOT A PART FOR THE AVERAGE PERSON TO REPLACE SINCE IT REQUIRES SOME DISMANTLING OF THE TAILGATE. MY CHEVROLET DEALER GAVE ME AN ESTIMATE OF $90 TO REPLACE THE LEFT SIDE. IT WOULD PROBABLY BE WISE TO REPLACE BOTH OF THEM.
