AN EARLY INSPECTION WAS HANDED DOWN FROM THE COMMONWEALTH STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA ON JULY, 01, 2016. SHORTLY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN AUTO ACCIDENT WHILE PARKED STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. THE CHEVROLET CAVALIER FAILED THE ENHANCED STATE INSPECTION THENCE AFTER DUE TO AIR BAG SAFETY FEATURE. THE CAR IS IN FAIR CONDITION APPRAISED ABOVE BLUE BOOK VALUE AND MECHANICALLY RUNS BETTER THAN IT DID 4 OR 5 YEARS AGO. THERE IS A SALVAGE TITLE CURRENTLY ON THE MOTOR VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. 1997 CHEVROLET CAVALIER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. *NJ AN INSPECTION REVEALED NO MECHANICAL REASON FOR THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG. ALSO, THE SUNROOF WAS INOPERATIVE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL FOR THE AIR BAG. *JB

I JUST GOT A USED CHEVY CAVALIER A 97 MODEL AND IT OVER HEATS CONSTANTLY AND THERE IS A POP AN SPARKS WHEN STARTING THE CAR AND THE LIGHTS WON'T TURN OFF AND NOW THERE IS WOBBLING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL AND WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT THE BACK . I ONLY HAD IT FOR MAYBE TWO DAYS NOW AND THE FAN TO THE MOTOR WON'T COME ON NOW AND I TOOK IT BACK TO THE CAR LOT WHERE I BOUGHT IT FROM THEY HAVE REPLACES THE THERMOSTAT( AIRCONDITIONER THING ) BUT IT' STILL OVER HEATS .. AND THEN I LOOK IN MY BOOK , AND IT GIVES A WEB SITE AND THERE IS ALL THESE RECALLS AND THE GUY TELLS ME WHEN I CALL THAT THE THINGS GOING ON WITH MY CAR ARE NOT IN THE RECALL LIST ACCEPT FOR THE SOMETHING TO DO WITH SPEED BUT IF THAT IS THE CASE WHY IS THE LIGHTS NOT CUTTING OFF AND THE CAR DOING ALL THESE THINGS .. I HAD A PERSON LOOK AT IT WHO WORKS ON CARS AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SPARK IS ON THE FUEL INJECTION SIDE OF THE MOTOR AND I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T GO UP IN FLAMES .. IS THERE ANY HELP IN FIXING THIS CAR SINCE THESE ARE DEFECTS ? *TR

1997 CHEVROLET CAVALIER WITH A STEERING COLUMN RECALL. CONSUMER STATES THAT THEY NEVER RECEIVED THE FIRST RECALL AND BY THE TIME THEY RECEIVED THE SECOND ONE THEIR DAUGHTER HAD DIED IN THAT VEHICLE DUE TO AN ACCIDENT. *KB

MY CAVALIER 1997 (95,000 MILES) OUT OF NO REASON DURING COLD DAY TODAY 1/2/08, CAN NOT MOVE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. INITIALLY I CAN BACK UP MY CAR OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY, AND DRIVE A FEW BLOCKS AWAY. WHEN I STOP AT THE STOP SIGN, I FOUND THE CAR CAN NOT MOVE FOR A FEW FEETS TO STUCK AT THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD WAITED FOR 5 MINUTES CHECKING OUT WHAT WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEN CAR SLOWLY CAN MOVE. MY SUSPECT, THERE IS SUDDENLY NO FLUID IN THE CLUTCH FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I BELIEVE THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT ON THIS PCM FROM GM. SLOWLY IT GAINS MORE POWER. BUT I LOOSE MY TRUST ON THIS VEHICLE. I REMEMBER I SAW 4 YEARS AGO SIMILAR CAVALIER VEHICLE AT THE OIL CHANGE COMPANY. SHE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR AT ALL. I FOUND IN THE WEB SEARCH, THERE IS NHSTA ID#10017096 THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE IN EITHER DIRECTION. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE POWER STEERING WORKS WHEN DRIVING FORWARD AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, BUT FAILS ONLY WHEN TURNING LEFT. GMC STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V286000 (STEERING:RACK AND PINION). THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A CHEVROLET DEALER AWAITING REPAIR. HE BELIEVES THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PAY TO HAVE THEM REPLACED. *KB THE CONSUMER SOLD THIS VEHICLE TO HIS GRANDSON WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER WROTE IN ON BEHALF OF HIS GRANDSON. THE CONSUMER LEARNED A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HIS GRANDSON EXPERIENCED. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1997 CHEVROLET CAVALIER. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WAS SNOW ON THE ROAD. DESPITE THE LOW IMPACT OF THE CRASH, THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE IS RECALL # 98V146000 (AIR BAGS) FOR THIS FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. THE CONTACT FELT HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 110,000. UPDATED 08/28/07. *JB
