Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 LR2 and 2012-2013 Range Rover Evoque vehicles. A component within the Occupant Classification System (OCS) Electronic Control Unit (ECU) may fail, resulting in the front seat passenger air bag being totally or partially disabled.
Remedy: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will update the Restraint Control Module software, free of charge. The recall began on August 30, 2014. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837. Land Rover's number for this recall is P046.

The contact owns a 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The contact stated that while driving at 45 MPH for two hours, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted, and the contact was able to pull over safely. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the front brake pads and timing chain needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The conditions doent clear in the next subsequent ignition cycle. There is a recall on evoque 2012-2013 of exact problem , but not in this VIN number car that I affected

The contact owns a 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH and slowing to a stop at a traffic sign, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop as if the contact had depressed the brake pedal suddenly. The contact stated the "disengage e-brake" warning was illuminated. The contact stated that the procedure had illuminated on the instrument panel to disengage the e-brake, however after following the needed steps the e-brake would not disengage. The contact stated he made several attempts to disengage the e-brake. The failure had become recurring. Additionally, the contact stated that the e-brake failure would occur when the vehicle had been in park(P). The contact stated that several attempts were needed to disengage the e-brake to drive the vehicle. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who could not diagnose the vehicle and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact eventually towed the vehicle to a second dealer who diagnosed that the e-brake was showing a code error. The dealer corrected the code and repaired the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had recurred and returned to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the e-brake actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure recurred and the vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 56,000.
SERVICE BRAKES Sep 18, 2022
While driving south on I-95 from Virginia into North Carolina, we experienced serious brake failure. The power brakes went out completely. The Evoque is almost 10 years old with about 95K miles, we bought it new and we've maintained it meticulously (new rear brakes installed late May, 2022). We had been driving in fairly heavy traffic for the first 200 miles of our trip, with plenty of stop & go, and no issues. When we decided to exit at the NC Welcome Center, my wife was driving and when she tried to break on the exit ramp, nothing happened! We were lucky no cars or pedestrians were in front of us, and lucky it was a long exit ramp. She kept her foot on the brake as hard as possible, and we gradually slowed to a manageable speed and parked. First I checked myself and sure enough the car wouldn't stop as soon as I put it in gear. Next I checked the brake fluid, which was full. I tried pumping the brakes, and everything else I could thing of but the brakes would not work at all. While waiting 3.5 hours for a tow truck, I did some research and learned that this issue of power assist failure in the 2012-2019 Evoque models has been under review by the NHTSA already. Our Evoque had a Virginia safety inspection in May 2022 when the new rear brakes were installed, and there were absolutely no warning lights or other indications of trouble or risk. This situation could have ended very seriously if we hadn't pulled over for a break. Now that I know this has happened with other Evoques, I expect Land Rover to pay for the repair; I've also lost confidence in the Evoque power assist configuration and I think Land Rover needs to issue a safety recall.

My car is parked in my single car garage. I go on vacation for 2 weeks. Car is not driven. I come home and I smell gas in my garage. I pull car out of garage and there ARE NO LEAKS ON GARAGE FLOOR. Car only has 39k miles on it. There are no Check Engine lights on.

There is a gasoline leak which could be seen on the right rear underside of my vehicle (there is an exposed tank-like looking component saturated with gasoline) which can be easily ignited and cause a fire whether the car is running or parked. My vehicle is with the dealer at the moment being looked at. The dealer told me a flange connected to the fuel system and fuel pump was cracked (for no apparent reason, it just failed) which causes the leak. The dealer said this is a known problem on the range rover sport and LR4 models of certain year span and a recall is currently going on for those models BUT NOT on my model vehicle. I noticed smell of gasoline and saw the leak some time in January 2022. According to my research on NHTSA website there is another vehicle of this same model located in Apopka Florida with the same problem as mine. I am concerned that land rover may have used the same component or parts provider on the 2013 Evoque (for the flange and fuel pump) as they did for the range rover sport and LR4 models. Please look into this and hopefully any serious accident can be avoided.

The contact's granddaughter owns a 2013 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque. The contact stated that while her granddaughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed that the turbocharger, intake, exhaust variable valve timing (VVT), timing chain, and all other supporting parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Consumer stated this time, dealer stated that Turbocharger, internal mechanical failure, intake and exhaust VVTs, Timing Chain, Guides, Tensioner and all other supporting parts (Intake VVT mechanical failure) needed replacement – total for this estimate is $9,952.98!!!!!

Exterior and interior began to smell of gasoline, upon investigation by accessing the low pressure fuel pump located under the rear seat, it was determined the fuel pump developed hairline cracks allowing fuel to leak onto the undercarriage of the vehicle.

Similar to those issues identified in Open Investigation EA 20-001, I was driving two boy scouts to camp when my vehicle's brakes no longer worked. The brake pedal was firm and vehicle would not slow down almost resulting in a catastrophic crash on Interstate 95. Was able to veer off the road into the shoulder and up a ramp with a hill to slow down to safety. Vehicle is currently at dealer for diagnostics and repair.

WAS DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THERE WAS A LOUD WIND SOUND AND THEN ALL ENGINE POWER WAS LOST, IT ALSO WOULDN'T SHIFT BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. BUT I HAD TO AT LEAST MAKE IT HOME AND ON MY WAY HOME I WAS ON THE BYPASS AND I COULDN'T GET THE CAR TO GO ABOVE 65. IT WAS DEFINITELY STRUGGLING. I WENT TO SHOP AND GOT DIAGNOSED AND THEY CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE TURBO HAS GONE OUT AND THAT HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE EVOQUE. SO NOW IT'S A HEFTY REPAIR DUE TO FAULTY MANUFACTURING OF THE TURBOCHARGER. I LOOKED IT UP AND IT SEEMS THAT MANY EVOQUE OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR TURBOS GOING OUT

UPON STARTING THE ENGINE IN THE GARAGE WITH THE HEAT SYSTEM ON THE EXHAUST FROM THE ENGINE ENTERS THE CABIN OF THE CAR WITH CARBON MONOXIDE FUMES. SMELL IS SICKENING, POISONOUS, AND DANGEROUS. THE CAUSE AS PER MY REPAIRMAN: THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAS A FAULTY DESIGN. THE PIECES ARE WELDED, THE WELDING FAILS, A CRACK ALLOWS CARBON MONOXIDE TO LEAK INTO THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE. THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD AND TURBO CHARGER ARE ONE PIECE. REPAIR COSTS OVER $3000. THE CAR HAS 44,000 MILES ON IT. THE NEWLY INSTALLED EXHAUST MANIFOLD/TURBO CHARGER IS THE SAME DESIGN THAT FAILED, LAND ROVER HASN'T MADE ANY CHANGES. IT'S LIKELY THIS NEW PART WILL FAIL AS WELL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LAND ROVER RICHMOND (11670 MIDLOTHIAN TURNPIKE, 23113, VA, (866) 223-3943) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SENSOR AND PASSENGER SIDE CUSHION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,270. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER EVOQUE. WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HILL AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE BRAKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY STIFF WHEN DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE DRIVER HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALER (LAND ROVER CHANTILLY, 4120 AUTO PARK CIR, CHANTILLY, VA 20151) AND THE BRAKE VENT BOOSTER WAS REPLACED. AFTER RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING ON A LEVEL SURFACE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE VALVES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE ON AN INCLINE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY AND THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.

FAMILY OF FOUR DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED OF 70MPH WHEN BRAKES GAVE OUT. DRIVING STRAIGHT ON FLAT HIGHWAY IN SUNNY DAY CONDITIONS. COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. AFTER BARELY MISSING CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT, WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE SHOULDER. THE CAR IS ONLY FOUR YEARS OLD WITH 47K MILES. VACUM PUMP AT FAULT. A MODERN 4 YEAR OLD CAR SHOULDN'T PUT PEOPLES LIVES AT RISK FOR MASS BREAK SYSTEM FAILURE. WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE AVOIDED THE ACCIDENT BUT PEOPLE COULD HAVE DIED. MY LAND ROVER EVOQUE WAS RUNNING IN MY DRIVEWAY IN THE PARK POSITION (WARMING UP). I STEPPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE TO GRAB SOMETHING FROM MY HOUSE AND WITHIN MINUTES I HEARD A BANG, THE CAR WENT INTO DRIVE AND SMASHED INTO MY FENCE, CONTINUED TO SMASH THROUGH THE FENCE AND LANDED INTO MY POOL. IT STOPPED THERE AND NEEDED TO BE TOWED OUT. THIS IS THE SECOND INSTANCE. THE FIRST INSTANCE HAPPENED IN MARCH 2015. MY CAR WAS IN PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY. I STARTED THE CAR, RAN BACK INTO MY HOUSE AND HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE CAR SLAMMED INTO MY FENCE BUT LUCKILY A CEMENT POST STOPPED IT. WHEN I APPROACHED THE CAR IT WAS IN THE PARK GEAR AND LUCKILY NO EXTERNAL DAMAGE WAS DONE. THIS SHIFT GEAR NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT FOR A POTENTIAL RECALL.

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND NOTICED FLUID COMING FROM THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE FLUID HOSE WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,600.

I HAVE TESTED THIS ON MY 2013 EVOQUE AND A RENTAL 2014 Y YOU WILL NEED TWO PEOPLE TO REPRODUCE THIS. 1) HAVE PASSENGER HOLD THE KEY AND UNLOCK THE VEHICLE FROM A DISTANCE 2) DRIVER GETS IN, AND TRIES STARTING VEHICLE WITH THE PASSENGER IN THE CAR BUT THE KEY MUST NOT BE DETECTED (I.E.: DRIVER PUSHES START BUTTON WHILE PASSENGER IS JUST GETTING IN THE CAR, SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS SHOULD RESULT IN "KEY NOT DETECTED" EVEN IF THE DRIVER NOW HOLDS THE KEY IN THEIR HAND.) 3) WHILE SITTING IN THE CAR, LOCK THE CAR USING THE KEYFOB. 4) CAR SHOULD NOW START WHEN YOU PUSH THE START BUTTON. TAKE NOTE AT HOW THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE MIRRORS WILL NOT UNFOLD EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN DOWN THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED TO ME DURING THE NIGHT WITH MY BLACK VEHICLE AND I COULD NOT TELL THAT THE MIRRORS WERE NOT UNFOLDED AND IT APPEARS TO THE DRIVER THAT THEY ARE JUST FINE WHEN THEY TRULY ARE JUST PROVIDING A REFLECTION OF THE CAR, SO I WAS NOT ABLE TO SEE ANY TRAFFIC USING THOSE MIRRORS. THE SIMPLE FIX IS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR, LOCK IT, UNLOCK IT, GET IN AND START IT AND THE MIRRORS WILL COME OUT. TWELVE MONTHS AFTER HAVING THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT LATCH REPLACED, REGULAR VEHICLE MAINTENANCE SHOWED THAT THE SEAT BELT LATCH WAS NOT RE-ATTACHED.
