LUCKILY I WASN'T ON A BUSY STREET SO I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS WORKING LIKE NOTHING HAPPENED. THE SERVICE LIGHT AND MESSAGE WERE NO LONGER THERE. I STILL HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. THAT IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN TRY AND GET TO A SHOP WHILE THE SERVICE LIGHT IS ON SO THEY CAN SEE WHAT CODE POPS UP. SEARCHED ONLINE COMPLAINTS AND OTHER CMAX OWNERS HAVE REPORTED A SIMILAR PROBLEM.CONTACTED THE FORD EXECUTIVE OFFICE AND THEY HELPED COVER SOME OF THE COST. THIS PROBLEM SHOULD BE RECALLED SINCE IT IMPACTS THE SAFETY OF DRIVER WHILE OPERATING THE CAR. I AM LUCKY IT DID NOT OPEN WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY.

WE HAVE USED THE SUPPLIED UTILITY 120V CHARGING CABLE SINCE WE ACQUIRED THE CAR TO CHARGE IT AT HOME. RECENTLY, I NOTICED THAT THE UTILITY CABLE PLUG WAS MELTED AND THE WEATHERPROOF SOCKET FIXTURE PLASTIC HOUSING WAS BURNT I CHANGED THE UNIT TO A DIFFERENT OUTDOOR OUTLET. IT BURNED THAT OUTLET SO BADLY THAT IT'S GFCI WAS TRIPPED AND COULD NOT BE RESET. FEARING A POSSIBLE HOUSE FIRE, I STOPPED USING THE CORD. I REPORTED IT TO OUR FORD DEALER AS A HAZARDOUS PRODUCT DEFECT. OUT OF WARRANTY WAS THE REPLY. I DO NOT KNOW WHERE THE ELECTRICAL RATE LIMITING CIRCUITRY IS IN THE SYSTEM, BUT I STRONGLY SUSPECT THAT DURING CHARGING, THE CAR NOW DRAWS MORE WATTAGE (1600-1700W, LESS THAN A POWERFUL HAIRDRYER) THAN THE CABLE UNIT IS RATED AT (1440W, PER IT'S LABELING), AND THIS DISCREPANCY OVER MANY MANY HOURS OF CONTINUOUS LOAD HAS LED TO THE FAILURE. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WAS THE THIRD SUCH FAILURE HE HAS PERSONALLY SEEN. THAT IS ONE DEALERSHIP OUT OF THE NATIONWIDE FORD NETWORK, IMPLYING 1000'S OF THESE FAILURES MAY HAVE OCCURRED. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS CONDITION, WHICH COULD LEAD TO A HOUSE FIRE AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AND RECALLED, IN MY VIEW.

FOR THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS THE STEERING SOUNDED LIKE IT NEEDED LUBRICATION, BUT I COULDN'T FIND ANY LUBRICATION POINTS EVERYTHING IS SEALED, THEN THE OTHER DAY WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE STEERING WENT OUT AND A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARED SERVICE POWER STEERING ASSIST NOW AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ( IT WOULD ONLY GO STRAIGHT NOT RIGHT OR LEFT) LUCKILY SHE WAS GOING INTO A TURN WITH A TURN OUT NEXT TO IT SO SHE COULD GET IT STOPPED. SHE RE STARTED THE CAR AND HAD MANUAL STEERING AND GOT THE CAR HOME. LATER I STARTED IT GOT THAT MESSAGE AND AN ADVANCE TRAC WARNING AND COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AFTER MOVING FORWARD AND BACKWARD A FEW TIMES AND RESTARTING THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. SO WE LOADED IT ON A CAR DOLLY AND TOWED IT 60 MILES TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP AND RECOMMENDED A $2400. REPAIR REPLACING THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY THE CAR HAS AROUND 75000 MILES ON IT AND IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. I HAVE READ ONLINE THAT FORD HAS HAD RECALLS FOR THE POWER STEERING ASSEMBLY FOR 2013 CAR BUT NOT THE C-MAX. PLEASE HELP BEFORE SOMEONE DIES.

ALSO, WHEN STOPPED AND ACCELERATING, THE CAR HAS A HESITATION ISSUE LIKE NO FUEL GETS TO IT FOR A MOMENT AND THAT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK AS WELL AS SEVERAL MONTHS AGO
CAR GOES DEAD AND 12-VOLT BATTERY IS BEING DRAINED BECAUSE FAULTY COMPUTER PROGRAMMING LEAVES ELECTRICAL MODULES ON EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED "OFF." UNCLEAR IF ITEMS THAT REMAIN ELECTRICALLY "HOT" POSE DIRECT SAFETY PROBLEMS, BUT CONSUMERS RISK BEING UNABLE TO START/RESTART THE CAR IN EMERGENCY OR NORMAL SITUATIONS. FORD DECLINES TO PAY FOR REPROGRAMMING THIS FAULTY DESIGN BEYOND THE NORMAL WARRANTY TIME (EVEN WHEN THE CAR IS COVERED BY A FORD EXTENDED "PREMIUM" WARRANTY). IN MY CASE, THE CAR WAS PARKED AT MY HOME AND THE BATTERY FAILED - TWICE IN A FEW WEEKS - OVERNIGHT IN WARM SUMMER WEATHER. REAR (HATCHBACK) LATCH FAILS TO RELEASE RESULTING IN A DOOR WILL NOT OPEN CONDITION. BECAUSE THE LATCH RELEASE WAS ACTIVATED, DRIVING OR ROAD VIBRATION MAY CAUSE THE DOOR TO OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY AND EJECT CARGO WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. HATCHBACK FAILS TO OPEN AFTER ELECTRONIC RELEASE IS ACTIVATED AND MUST BE "JIGGLED" TO OPEN. HATCHBACK LATER OPENED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, SOMEWHAT NORMALLY ON LONG CAR RIDES(NORMALLY ON THE HIGHWAY) THE CAR HAS A ELECTRICAL SHORT, CAUSING THE CAR TO USE UP ALL THE EV MILES IT HAS STORED. MEAN WHILE THE CAR STARTS TO SMELL LIKE BURNING ELECTRICAL, NO SMOKE IS SEEN BUT SMELL IS THERE. WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED AFTER THE ACCIDENTS , THE CAR GOES BACK TO NORMAL. THESE ACCIDENTS HAS HAPPEN OVER 10 TIMES, OVER THE PAST 2 YEARS. WE HAVE TOKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 4 TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM AND NOTHING GETS FIXED. I THINK ALL THAT IS DONE IT RESETTING THE ELECTRICAL, YET THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND BEEN HAVING MORE ELECTRICAL ISSUES. PROBLEMS WITH MY FORD MOBILE, RADIO NOT TURNING OFF AND SCREENS BLINKING.
MY CAR FAILED TO START FOR 2 CONSECUTIVE DAYS AFTER NON-OPERATION OVERNIGHT AND WHEN I TOOK THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY NEED TO PERFORM A TSB 15-0089, SINCE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY LESS THAN 2 MONTHS, FORD SAID I NEED TO PAY $1500 TO FIX THIS ISSUE. BASED ON RESEARCH THIS ISSUES SEEMS TO AFFECT MULTIPLE VEHICLES IN THIS CATEGORY AND FORD IS NOT OWNING UP TO FIXING THIS ISSUE THAT IS AFFECTING THESE CARS.
