The 3.8L Lambda II GDI V6 engine suffered catastrophic failure at approximately 102,000 miles. The root cause is excessive oil consumption documented by an independent repair shop well before the 100,000-mile powertrain warranty expired. At 81,207 miles, during a routine oil change, the mechanic che
... cked oil level before draining and found nothing on the dipstick. Only about 3 quarts drained from an engine with 6.9-quart capacity, meaning nearly 4 quarts were consumed since the last change. This finding repeated at 88,408 miles, with the shop documenting it was the second time oil was critically low. Both events occurred within the powertrain warranty. Original invoices are available for inspection. At no point during ownership did the vehicle display any warning — no low oil level indicator, no low oil pressure warning, no check engine light — despite oil levels falling dangerously low on multiple documented occasions. The absence of any driver alert while the engine operated with less than half its required oil is a serious safety deficiency. The engine failed on while driving with passengers including three young children, causing complete loss of power and requiring an emergency pullover. Loss of engine power at speed creates serious crash risk. The vehicle was serviced at an authorized Kia dealer at 60,449 miles where a 60K service, multi-point inspection, and recall SC243B were performed. The dealer made no mention of oil consumption, did not reference TSB ENG222 (addressing excessive consumption across multiple Kia engine families), and did not perform an oil consumption test. Kia Consumer Affairs refused to submit a goodwill claim and closed the case, citing incomplete oil change documentation — despite the defect being documented within warranty. Excessive oil consumption in 2020-2021 Tellurides appears systemic based on numerous owner reports describing the identical pattern: extreme consumption, no dashboard warnings, and eventual engine failure.Read more

While traveling down the highway at approximately 60-65mph I pressed the accelerator to change lanes and pass a tractor trailer when it felt like my transmission slipped very abruptly. There was a very noticeable power loss and the truck would not accelerate. Then I noticed a loud knocking noise com
... ing from the engine. No check engine light or any other indications on the dash to let me know there was a problem. I began to try and merge to the right of the highway to get off which was not easy do to the power loss and heavy traffic on the highway at the time. I made it to the right lane to exit the highway and when I slowed down the engine died and I had to coast to a stop luckily on an exit ramp. The truck was towed to a dealership and they state that I will need a new engine. I know this issue is already well documented with the GM 6.2l engines but I is very unsettling that the engine just died on the highway at highway speeds and no indications.Read more

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The variable displacement oil pump contains a plastic (Duoplex) internal adjusting ring/vane carrier that is known to become brittle and shatter. Status: While the pump has not yet suffered a total mec
... hanical collapse, it is a documented inherent defect. The manufacturer (BMW) has already superseded this part (Original #11418646454 or ...453) with a reinforced metal version (Part #11419895359), admitting the original material was insufficient for the engine's lifespan. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Risk: The failure mode is sudden and unpredictable. If the plastic ring shatters while driving, it can lead to an instantaneous loss of oil pressure, causing the engine to seize or stall at highway speeds. This creates an immediate risk of: Loss of power steering and braking assist in traffic. Potential rear-wheel lockup (in RWD/Manual configurations) leading to loss of vehicle control. Catastrophic engine failure in the middle of active traffic, requiring an emergency maneuver. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Assessment: The existence of the defect is confirmed by BMW’s internal technical case PuMA Measure 65494813. Furthermore, the manufacturer released a software update (S18A-21-03-567) specifically to reduce oil pressure during cold starts to mitigate stress on this plastic component—a "band-aid" fix that acknowledges the hardware's fragility. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Assessment: Not yet, as the vehicle is being operated under the assumption of a known safety defect. However, independent mechanics and BMW master technicians across the industry have verified that early B58TU builds (2018–2020) almost universally contain the defective plastic-internals pump.Read more

This is in regards to Recall #C4B for the ABS/HCU failure on my 2017 RAM. This recall was issued over a year ago in November of 2024, but Stellantis has yet to DO ANYTHING and can't even tell us when a remedy will be available. I have asked my local dealership and get the same answer, NOTHING!!!
... The parts must be available, because the dealership told me that I could purchase the part from them and pay them to install it. But, I would have to then wait to get reimbursed from Stellantis once the recall is "remedied". Two problems with this; 1) I don't have the $1500+ to spend on this, and 2) I don't trust them to ever pay me back! But, this does tell me that they have the parts. Plus, they have no trouble making and selling new vehicles with parts that don't have this safety failure. Can you make them prioritize this recall and take car of the thousands of RAM trucks with this safety issue. BTW, last month my brother-in-law was driving my truck on I-25 through Denver, CO. He hit an icy spot and lost traction causing him to go into a 360 spin. God was looking over him because he did hit anything or anyone. THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED IF THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WOULD HAVE BEEN WORKING. STELLANTIS CAME VERY CLOSE TO BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR HIS DEATH!!!Read more

Description of Incident: The engine in my 2020 Hyundai Palisade Limited failed and ultimately seized despite having been regularly maintained and receiving an oil change less than 3,000 miles prior to the failure. The component that failed was the engine, and according to the dealership, it is seize
... d and no longer operable. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The failure posed a significant safety risk. The engine began shaking while the vehicle was in motion, creating a sudden loss of power and drivability. I pulled over immediately and discovered that the engine oil dipstick was dry. I added oil right away, but the engine shut down shortly after. The abrupt loss of engine function while driving could have led to a serious accident had I been in traffic or at highway speed. Reproduction / Confirmation: Yes, the issue was confirmed by Hyundai at Courtesy, a certified Hyundai dealership. They diagnosed the engine as seized and also confirmed that oil was present at the time of inspection, ruling out owner neglect. Inspections Conducted: The vehicle and failed component (engine) have been inspected by the dealership, who submitted a case to Hyundai. However, the case was denied for goodwill coverage despite the circumstances. The manufacturer has been notified but has not physically inspected the engine themselves beyond the dealership’s report. Warning Lamps or Symptoms: No Check Engine Light, oil pressure warning, or any dashboard message illuminated prior to or during the failure. The only symptom was engine shaking, which began just before the engine shut down. The oil loss occurred silently and without warning, making the issue especially dangerous and difficult to detect in time.Read more

The contact's husband stated that the tow truck driver could not move the gear shifter into neutral(N) when the vehicle was being towed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle remained at the dealer and had not been driven since. The failure mileage was 81,000.Read more

While driving on the highway a message came up stating Brake System Failure, top speed 62 mph. It also came up with other error messages, like service traction control. I completely lost any braking capability and had to let it slow down & pull off to the side of the highway. I shutoff the vehicl

When the ABS light turns on, then braking is possible, but all pressure is gone from brake booster and brakes sound like they're grinding, not like the sound of abs engaging. Very dangerous to drive in snow as front brakes work but drive axle doesn't disengage when the brake pedal is depressed. Regular mechanic won't engage with diagnosing issues as he feels the problem is partly computer malfunction and Toyota won't allow for used part mismatching. ABS/ECU is failed.Read more

We purchased this HR-V last year for my son. He has been driving it back and forth to school at a max of 35mph most of the time. We had to drive to Birmingham and probably the first time actually at speeds of 55mph or more. The steering didn't feel right. it seemed as if it was sticking in it's curr
... ent position and took more effort to turn it, When it would finally turn it felt like it would ratchet over. I watched it carefully throughout the drive. When we got home, I took the vehicle in to the dealer for its first service, to accomplish a safety recall on the seat belts and asked them to look at the steering as well. It appears that this vehicle was having the same failure of the steering gearbox that has affected Civic, CR-V and Acura Integra models prompting a recall. And in fact, as we are waiting for the dealer to repair this vehicle with less than 4000 miles, they confirmed this gearbox is not available because it is the same gearbox as those models use. My concern is that this problem is affecting this model of vehicle as well, and probably any vehicle that has this same part.Read more

The car has been having problems with oil consumption. The problem became known in 2022, but the dealer/service department (Frank Hyundai, National City, CA 91950) did not take care of the issue and did not care about safety. The dealer told me, "Your car is OK." On 7/3/2023, the engine light came
... on. A second round of oil consumption tests began along with a 90,000-mile service, including replacements of filter assy and gasket, four new tires and front and rear brakes, spark plugs, suspension/steering repair, shaft assy, engine repair, cooling system service, and fuel induction service. Shortly after, the car slows down even when my foot is on the accelerator. It feels as though the vehicle will stop. I can see the rpm gauge erratically going up and down. The car lurches or jerks. I reported the jerky problem to the dealer at the second 1000-mi oil consumption test, but the dealer did not make any diagnostic tests or repairs because, per the dealer, "it did not jerk while we test-drove it." The problem continues.Read more

While driving down a straight road going approximately 20 mph my truck pulled me hard to the left and I was unable to control it. The dealer stated that they were unsure why this happened, and that there was no damage or wear to the ball joints. Upon doing my own research, I was able to find an online thread with many other consumers who had the same exact problem as me. Many people stated that it is an issue with the stock upper and lower control arms, and that because of how the truck sits, it puts the ball joints at their limits Increasing the chances of them popping out. Now, my truck is sitting at the dealership with no estimated time of repair due to them being unable to get any parts. My fear is that my safety would have been impacted if this happened at a higher rate of speed on a busier road, such as a highway. There were no warnings or indications that anything was wrong with my truck, and it was driving completely normal up until the incident. I also fear of this happening again since they are replacing the damage parts with stock parts, as well as me being unsure, if this will happen to the other side of my vehicle as well.Read more
